Restore Rusty Antique KEYS

These keys are possibly 400 years old! I originally thought 200 but Alain told us the house was built in the 1600’s and they were original keys. The house is situated in France, Valloire in Bonne Nuit. I’m so happy with the results. From rusty to restored and protected ❤️

Is baking the keys necessary? I want to use some to make accessories but I’m worried if I don’t coat them they’ll have that white powdery substance flake off them from being untreated.

Hi Tyler I’m not sure. 🤔 maybe trial with one. I think if they’re old they really need some protection and the good thing about the baking is it doesn’t leave them oily. Mine are hanging in my father in laws kitchen and so far they look just like the day I finished them :)

Does the vinegar need to be distilled?

No I don’t believe so, white vinegar is stronger than distilled vinegar so I believe white vinegar would work faster to remove the rust. Good luck with your project :)
