The contracts are not like that. Most contracts are either 1 year or a 3-6-9 contract. You do always have to give 3 months notice. If you terminate a 1 year contract, you will have to pay a penalty of one and a half month. A 3-6-9 contract renews automatically every 3 years. If you terminate that contract within the first three years you will get a penalty of 3 months if it was broken in the first year, 2 in the second year, 1 in the third year (up untill 2 years and 9 months, because then you can give your 3 months notice and it will count for 3 years). When it renews after the first 3 years, there will no longer be any penalties. The only thing that remains is the 3 months notice. This also means you can not be evicted for the next three years, unless under special circumstances. Also the person you are renting from needs to give 6 months notice and needs to either move in to that appartment himself, or family or needs to do renovations (with very strict guidelines). If you have a doctors prescription for a cold medicine or so, you don't have to pay a lot for the medicine.
Hi! I am Austrian and i recently moved to Belgium. Before i lived in Germany and all the Administration was way easier there. Like you cannot Even Go to a simple tanning Studio without the ID Card…….
Haha no, the trains are probably one of the most unreliable thing I've seen in Belgium. A lot of time either have to get off because of issues on train, or the train is just delayed. A real pain. And about transportation, I think it's worth to mention usage of De Lijn app as this made navigation so much easier for me in the flemish area (Antwerp, Ghent). I have no idea whether this is useful in Brussels though.
As a daily commuter to/from Brussels for many years, I confirm that trains are not reliable. When I stopped working a bit over four years ago, my first new retiree's pleasure was the train ride back home on my last day, knowing it was my last ride. I have not set foot in a train or a station since then.
The truth is that Budapest is a city so great that almost anywhere in Belgium is going to look bad compared to it. Budapest is one of those European capitals that people don't really have a clue just how amazing the quality of life is there. It will be difficult for you, coming from Budapest, to find anywhere in Belgium that is half as good as there. Magyartól magyarnak. hahah
In the flemish part they try to help you in english If they can, In wallonia they only help you If you speak french, even If they understand english. No metro in Antwerp???
Now I understand why Europe is in steep decline and America will win in the end. One little and insignificant European country cannot even decide on a single language. All the system waste is eating Europe from the inside.
ROFLMAO The difference is that people in Belgium in general speak 3 language if not 4 or 5. While US Americans are barely proficient in 1 one, 54% of USA adults read on a level below 6th grade and 20% below 5th grade, which explains who they elected a proven liar, cheat, criminal, sexual assaulter and treasonous demented guy.
Very detailed and honest review. Its so important to know the ground realities. Many thanks for the video.
Many thanks for posting this, it has lots of very useful information which it is good to know.
