    One thing my mom did especially when covid hit, we got a whole bunch of non perishable things that we knew we could keep long term. And a big chunk of them went down into our storage part of our finished basement. Then she wrote up a whole list with the quantity of things that she tapped on the inside of the cabinet door where we store those non perishables we plan to use within the immediate future upstairs in the kitchen. as we use things we check the list (we have one down in the storage part as well) we cross off what we are taking and that helps us keep track of what we have, what we are getting low on etc. Might help with your stores of dried goods so as you use them you can see ok this is what i got in stock out there to rotate through. loving all the goats getting round with kids its exciting to see that coming up so fast!

    I think the granulated sugar, put in your blender is just considered superfine sugar. Powdered or confectioner's sugar is blended longer, with a high-powered blender and I think cornstarch is added as well. Perhaps a glaze made with homemade superfine sugar can be obtained with heat to dissolve the sugar better, but I haven't tried that. I have had decent results using a spice grinder, but it only makes a very small amount at a time and the first batch is basically just to clean the blades of any residual spices (I use salt for that batch.) That freeze-dried pumpkin puree and regular pumpkin puree can be "snuck into" homemade macaroni and cheese for a nutrient boost - I call it "hidden veggies pasta". LOL

I don’t have rabbits, but I do use the goats and chickens manure. I age the manure before using it. I am hopeful for a warmer spring and summer this year. Our summers on average will get about 65 degrees, we are on the Pacific Northwest coast. A lot of things are very hard to grow because we are so cool.

    The cookies looked yummy, Heather! I love key lime anything, so right up my alley haha. Really enjoyed seeing how everyone is doing in the weather y'all are having, goatie goats all look fabulous. Buster, kitties, poultry, bunnies, Chloe and so on. That black bunny with the smallest dot of white on its nose is adorable, I bet black pompoms will be super awesome too. Seedlings are coming along nicely! Will be interesting to see how your brassicas do hold up - I love the 'doing it for science' type of personal mini-experiments haha. I do love my magazines, I plan to find some nice holders for them to keep them organized. Lots of great info inside them and can read/touch at your leisure and also 'disconnect' digitally at the same time. Can't wait to see roof on barn extension and all the finishing touches. Hoping it can all happen in time for you to do your rearranging before kiddings start! 💚🐇🎃💚

      Levi has been out there off and on today and The Grimes' are coming over tomorrow after church to help out with the roof. After that Levi is getting a pallet of pine pellet bedding to put down on the ground in there in the wettest spots AND he's picking up a hay delivery to stack in there immediately! We might actually get more than 30 bales since we can fit way more in there!!

    Your seedlings are looking fantastic. I don't really have an idea yet of what I'm planning for the garden this year, but I do want to try to grow some better paste variety tomatoes. Those Tachi I grew were very productive, but just not enough for the size they were. Hopefully we'll find something like your Ox Hearts. Far as the peppers go, we had a substantial amount of harvest, but also looking at a sweeter variety this year.

    Hi Heather, I have a question about starting seedlings right now. I am in Alabama Zone 7b. Are the seedlings that you started being kept in a warm room for 8 weeks as most seed packages state? Or can they be started in a greenhouse with heat lamps only? It’s still getting really cold here at night but the lamps seem to keep the temperature above freezing. I guess I’m just confused on how much cold is too much to get them started even though they are cold weather crops. Any help appreciated.

    • @SageandStoneHomestead
      @SageandStoneHomestead  8 годин тому

      Mine will be inside but by around 6 weeks I'll start transitioning them to the greenhouse. My greenhouse freezes at night still and they can handle it to a point but being in pots their roots are at risk of chilling too much. They will grow slower in the cold and with less light that winter provides but they will grow still as long as a super cold night doesn't wipe them out. A heat mat might be nice if the heat lamp looks like it might burn the leaves.
