You should put some of your raised beds under the barn windows. Plant medium tall flowers in the back and something cascading in the front to give the resemblance of window boxes!

Oh, and she could plant something that like to cascade, like nasturtiums or sweet peas, maybe with some Johnny Jump-ups violets? All three will grow pretty much anywhere and I'm pretty sure they are safe, if the goats ever got accidental access.😊

My first thought was also rhubarb 😂. Comfrey, hellebores, and bleeding hearts also love part/full shade. I would check on toxicity though, if the goats might get access to the area. Ferns and hostas are also groups that do best in full shade. Whatever you choose, enjoy the process! ❤❤

We were walking around in t shirts just a few days ago. Woke up to snow and freezing temps today. Like you, I wouldn’t consider it an attic blast compared to a couple years ago, but the drastic swing in temps always have me worried for the animals.
The addition is looking great! I need more rabbit room eventually. it’s so hard because you go from busting at the seems with grow outs and breeders, then after the 4-H kiddos get what they want and culling based on performance etc, space isn’t as much of an issue. We’ll see what this year brings!

Ohhh… please, consider freeze drying one of your beautiful pumpkin pies! I’ve heard it’s scums!

And, thank you for explaining Margie’s touch of tummy trouble! I’m learning so much about goats from you! I still don’t know that I would ever keep them, because I’m scared of how they seem to get sick and don’t pull out of it. I just couldn’t bare to lose an animal like that!

So amazing how one of your pumpkin made all those pies (with eggs and milk and such added)! Brocolli salad looked fabulous, Heather. I don't think the barn extension looks overly prisony lol, add some beds in and a pop of some kind of color and it'll be awesome as a backdrop. Are you going to put in a gutter or some sort of water collection off the overhanging north side edge? So glad that saw works great, I was excited to see Levi was able to use it for the barn project! Maybe some rhubarb and roses, and whatever else might handle shade well. Super excited for upcoming kiddings coming soon, and very glad Margie is doing better. Hopefully this cold front isn't too awful! 💚💚🥚🥧💚

Maybe do a mural on the white metal areas, with some pretty flowers or nice words or even just a cool pattern, etc. Could be fun activity with the kids and count as art class for homeschooling too? I could totally see some vivid sunflowers/daisies making it really eye catching.

I think it looks like a wonderful expansion to your barn and not "prisony" - just because of the coloration and the even, square windows is why anyone would say it reminds them of that kind of building. But many buildings use a similar utilitarian archetecture in the governement spaces, commercial spaces, and homes/farms. I know there are lots of shade/partial sun loving vegetables, fruits, and flowers but I'm not certain of any toxicity that might be present if the goats nibble or nosh on them. But... American Persimmons, Black or red Raspberries, Blueberries (especially the wild varieties), Currants & Gooseberries, Chervil (herb), Cilantro, Dill, French Tarragon, Ginger, Lovage, Wasabi, Artichokes and Cardoons, Calendula, Nasturtiums, Dianthus, Hostas, Peas, Rhubarb, Solomon's Seal, Spiderwort, Violets... All grow well in full to part shade.

Those have been on my 'want list' being in a small house that's nice to have. Pies are beautiful! Wonder how slices would freeze dry? Ok so it may look something like a prison BUT what a beautiful backdrop for some raised garden beds or fruit tress/bushes/perennials and/or kid's artwork to change that.

Garden in the greenhouse still looking great. I am not sure if putting organic matter like spent hay would be a good idea for the rabbit barn area, My thinking is it will compost and generate extra heat , the arch nemesis of rabbits. IMO crushed stone be best but just dirt be fine too to build up the floor . Pumpkin pies looked great, I just made pumpkin cheesecake pie a few days ago myself. Happy 2025 to the family and critters.
