@riltalk4055 because they want shorter games, so they keep pushing the narrative that batting average is not important anymore. Mlb avg has dropped about 25 points over the last 20 years because fewer hits means shorter games.

I mean, Joey Votto hit .400 over the course of a half a season once, so very good streches happen time to time. But if Arraez keeps this up ’til end of July, he’s gonna be the only thing people are talking about (aside from Ohtani)

Actually so beautiful to see. In the season of pitch clocks, bigger bases and no shifts, in the era of the 2 outcomes, one man absolutely refuses to change. And even with all the recent attention, he's only doing better.

too many casual fans arent recognising the difficulty of this, thinking that because he just hits singles and doubles he isnt good. even if Judge only tried to hit singles, he would hit close to .400. Ohtani tried when he was younger, and he never even came close. all these hitters hit for power because they know they cant raise their average any more than it is. Arraez is built different

Usually the video breakdown is quite good but this one doesn't make sense - almost seeking out a narrative that isn't there. Mark DLR speaks of how the hands don't move ... but they do. He also speaks of the stride and load being quiet ... but they aren't. The posture and swing path is very much like any hitter. It's just that the guy is 175 pounds and has tremendous hand eye coordination so puts everything in play and rarely strikes out. He also fouls off a ton of pitches that would be a swinging strike. Nothing to do with his swing being different (like an Ichiro).

Arraez has a better, more powerful cut than Gwynn. Arraez does get loaded starting with the sink. He just doesn’t do anything extra at all. Everything from the slightly open stance, shortened load and staying back and balanced on the back side of his swing is allowing him to hit pitching better than Gwynn ever saw. Gwynn had incredible hands that found the baseball, this guy is finding the ball in a more powerful position and striking the ball with authority. It’s going to be fun to watch in august and September if he can keep this up.
