I used to deliver that unit to job sites for Rampart Industries.
It is a hydro mill used to water blast concrete from parking garages and road surfaces. The ramps are used to store a machine that had a big rotary milling head to blast large sections of concrete from bridges.
Brought back some memories of moving them trailers for them. They were located in Coraoplolis, PA. By the airport.

Hey my brother in law lives near pittsburg, Ive driven around that area a bit just checking it out. Any idea what that big bunker looking thing was at 2348 Hookstown Grade Rd, Clinton, PA 15026? Not far from Rampart.
I live up in the Pocono’s now. I haven't been out that area in about 10 years.

You are correct. I was on a job that the concrete in the a few columns didn’t make spec had to dydro blast them off.

Matt I have an old 270 hp turbocharged intercooled 3306 Cat running a big centrifugal fan on some Opal mining machinery mounted on the back of a truck.
The setup sucks excavated dirt to the surface through a chain of eight foot lengths of eight inch diameter pipe and also circulates fresh air through galleries in a mine at the same time.
I installed an analog watchdog like the one on your C13 when I transplanted the engine out of a derelict truck because the 680 Leyland it replaced dropped a valve while running and threw a leg out of bed and there was no watchdog on the system at that time.
Start procedure requires holding down an override button for the oil pressure shutoff on the watchdog panel with one hand while cranking and after the engine fires until the pressure rises below a preset minimum.
If you don't hold down the override for long enough after the engine starts, the watchdog shuts it down again due to oil pressure not reaching or sustaining whatever minimum pressure it is set at.
Looks like two buttons are visible near the starter key on the watchdog panel for your C13 and I reckon when Sam unplugged that lead it might be that he isolated at least part of the watchdog system.
It could be worth plugging that lead back in and experimenting with holding in those buttons until oil pressure gets up during start.
Because a watchdog in good working condition can be priceless insurance for any engine especially if it is left unattended for any length of time and indications are that the engine on that contraption maybe was.

The genuine excitement when you found those vise grips, reminds me of the time I found a pair on the road. I was riding my motorcycle home from work a year or two ago, hit a red light, looked down "Oooooh a pair of vice grips".... Got home, and realized they were snap on!! My first and only snap on tool hahahah
I found a pair of giant channel locks on the bike one day. Tool truck quality and the size you use to compress brake calipers. Best day ever.
My first and only snap on tool is a wrench a mechanic left behind in my brother in laws car. When he sold the car he cleaned it out and left it outside in the rain so I just took it.

All (~10) of my Snap-On tools were also found in used vehicles/machines I've owned over the 50 years that I've been tearing into them.
@FishFind3000 - Same here. I was two hours away from home on a Saturday and the brake job I knew I needed could not wait another mile. I came across a small-town car repair shop and begged the guy to do the job and he agreed. 'Bout 6 months later, I notice something shiny way deep in the crevice between the driver's seat mount and the doorsill. I had noticed the mechanic was placing his wrenches on the doorsill, and sure enough, it was a 9/16 Snap-on. I am not going to make a two hour drive to return it. And it would cost me at least $10 to mail it. I left it there because it's not mine. Maybe I'll call him and maybe we could make an arrangement🤔
Regular Vise Grips are better than Snap Off imitations.
Hydro dem is widely used in civil engineering, it's a great way to remove defective concrete without damaging reinforcing steel (in fact it can give the steel a good clean, removing corrosion products you don't want cast in to replacement concrete).

had a modern version on a building site i was working on. they used it to blast off concrete with super high pressure water... like 3000 bar, so that rebar could be recycled or slabs that werent up to spec could be re-poured without the structural work having to be re-done.
this stuff could cut you in half and sounded like a jet engine
I can only imagine the mess that water jet would make stripping ground-level concrete. I make a hellacious mess washing the edges of my driveway with my puny 248 bar pressure washer!
They're also used to excavate hillsides in a hurry, washing away tons of dirt in a very short amount of time.

Looks like you have a good yard supervisor. Knows his/her way around the yard, is mindful of running equipment and stays out of the way. That kind of help is hard to come by nowadays.
That's a Hydro-Blaster for cutting or demolition of concrete. Used a lot on bridge decks for a new overlay. upwards of 40K PSI water. The ramps are to unload the buggy that's carried inside that carries the nozzles/jets that does the work.. Operator rides it along blasting the pavement or deck.
Pumps, Buggy, and hoses are missing, Big Money There. Part it out keep the trailer.

Probably carried a mini digger in the back, used to hold a jetting lance. It was used to demolish concrete without damaging the rebar.

Had to stop yelling at the TV. The big light saying low water, would have been an auto shut off for the motor to protect the pump. ( when it had a HP pump)
The hydro demolition unit would have had a tracked vehicle/bobcat of some description that would have held one slowly rotating nozzle, that is used to breakup concrete. Its a way to remove damaged concrete back to the rebar without causing more damage to the base material through vibrations. When that unit was operational it would have been a incredibly powerful machine.
Good score on the unit though, you will definitely make your money back plus more.

Thats gotta be the most "cleaned out" tool storage/office/whatever box ever to go thru an auction.
I'm guessing the guy that wants to rent it thinks it's an empty relatively clean waterproof box, not a old filthy POS with a zillion holes in it and doors that aren't even close to being watertight.

Matt the ramps on the back are for loading the robots up used for hydro demolition. We have lots of trailers built out doing the same thing at work here in Texas. The pumps though on your unit are to small for concrete removal. The smallest pump most people run down here is 60000psi @ 1000gal per min. More than likely your unit was used for the removal of growth on ship hull’s and the removal of paint on them along with the lining of storage tanks for the refinery’s.
After reading the concrete guys posts here, I was thinking this HAS to be for something less water needy, 1,000 gallons is way too little water and whatever pumps were on that are WAY too small to push that much material around. Nice post
You just proved what i was talking to friend about a few weeks ago, That a straight frame rear steer is more stable when lifting a heavy load because the counter weight does not get closer to the load when turning

Word of advice: When you are using a jumper pack with dead batteries, not only does the jumper pack have to power the starter, but it also has to charge those batteries. Parallel circuit. Try either charging the batteries first or disconnect the batteries while using the jumper pack.

I broke down once in Detroit, and had a family emergency in Grand Rapids. The trailer was empty, so I left it for the tow service to bring the rig back. A good guy with an old Autocar, with a V12 offered me a ride back to GR. He put the pedal to the metal, and even loaded, he made a 3 and a half hour trip into 2 hours and 45 minutes. 😮 Thanks to the Good Sam truckers out there.
Solid motor for the Autocar. Sam at Scrappy knows how to hook them to trucks [great motors really]. I'll never understand using brake lines that rot like steel when that nickel copper lines are available and they don't rot [Stainless would be best but it could get expensive].

I figured it was just an electrical control making her not run because every time she started and you stopped cranking with the key she would shut down. Had power to system in crank but not run. Glad you buddy find the problem so quickly.
I wonder if the connector he pluged back in early on was the other end of the wire his buddy disconnected,
@@KingOfKYA it looked to me to be a different connection, the one he disconnected went to the upper control panel for the water system. the ones he connected looked to be going from key switch to engine, etc. I guess only Matts buddy knows for sure 😊
Here's a good project for you. Connect a generator to the C13 engine, put in the context box, and have a backup power plant for your house and shops. Also, those round stainless steel housings that had the hoses going to them look like coalescing filters.
build the second c13 up as a spare/for heavy loads while it's all there
Sorry Matt viewing this episode so late couple of ideas.💡💡💡💡 The roof would make for a great wood shed for seasoning fire wood for the radiant floor heater burner out back.😎😎👍👍On that rolling high deck it would make a great cannidate for hauling weld rig with two of those diesal tanks mounted on the inside of the frame for a young starter upper. All used equipment install of curse as a starter kit. Steel cabinets, vises, reels, storage, etc. etc 👉👉 Hands down. 👈👈Then sell it as a nice even price to a guy or gale starting out. 👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉👉Gotta Spend a little money to make even more money.

that 90 gal. tank would do, make a cradle for it, so it can hook onto any machine, then fill it with water as needed....lift on, empty, then fill, use machine, drain tank, lift off empty..
I appreciate seeing the other side of the life cycle. The channel has a lot of collecting of stuff.. good to see stuff come in, whats pulled from it and why and where it goes. (full disclosure, i love mechanical stuff but im allergic to clutter so i appreciate this side)

An 18 speed is a better choice. Not only do you have the top gears that you can split, you have the low range that you can split. Running at 180,000 pounds a trip, with a highway rear end, I start in low low, 1st low, second low, third low, fourth low- high, 5th low-high, 6th l-h, etc. Having that extra gear on the low end really helps. Even in my new job running under 100,000 with an 18, I start in 1st or second low. This 15l cat PULLS. 80,000 pounds with an RGN and a lil ole loader and I'm accelerating up the hills and passing lighter semis 75 mph in OD at about 1550rpms with more to go. You will not be disappointed with an 18 speed and a good motor.
Yet another top class episode, I just loved every second of it.

What sam did reminded me of a story The Graybeard engineer retired and a few weeks later the Big Machine broke down, which was essential to the company’s revenue. The Manager couldn’t get the machine to work again so the company called in Graybeard as an independent consultant.
Graybeard agrees. He walks into the factory, takes a look at the Big Machine, grabs a sledge hammer, and whacks the machine once whereupon the machine starts right up. Graybeard leaves and the company is making money again.
The next day Manager receives a bill from Graybeard for $5,000. Manager is furious at the price and refuses to pay. Graybeard assures him that it’s a fair price. Manager retorts that if it’s a fair price Graybeard won’t mind itemizing the bill. Graybeard agrees that this is a fair request and complies.

That story is so old and washed up over used. Just wish this one would die.
A Russian friend of mine told me a version of that story thirty years ago and he said it was an old one from the remote country-side of Russia where that kind of engineering was perfectly believable in farmyards of the time. Amounts were 1ruble and 100 rubles which were not many dollars in those days. I guess the original account must be at least seventy years old.

The reference to WOMA suggests that it was used to run very high pressure water pumps, maybe 10,000 psi or more. May have been used for cutting concrete or even steel if used with an abrasive. Pity the pumps are missing as they are very expensive.

Definitely looks like a hydro demolition rig the filter setup looks simulair to the ones i worked with and most likely in the back container there would be a tracked demolition robot hence the big ramps.

@@ericsebina256 All the pump gear is missing, the trailer is just one good engine, one dead core, and four fuel tanks. The tanks are worth at least 500 a pop!
@@ericsebina256 Could be but would be overkill, the very high pressure water pumps are more likely to be used with an abrasive for cutting hard materials and are good on steel etc as the material is kept cool and the cut is quite narrow. They are usually computer controlled. As this rig is mobile it was possibly used in demolition but I don’t know anything about that process.
Pretty cool to see a local company like Ritchie Bros from Burnaby B.C. Canada becoming so popular so world wide. At one point in the distant past I was even involved with rescuing some heavy equipment for them by ship at a remote site in the Philippines which was pretty much surrounded by rebels on all sides.

Solid trailer, two cat motors, 4 diesel tanks, 1000 gallon water tank and the container are well worth the $6 K 👍👍👍
Matt don’t sell your self short on them engines. I’m a cat mechanic and I know from experience a running c13 with low hours can get you around 30k. The core engine can get you maybe 10-15k. The electronics are so simple. Those engines are a MEUI( mechanical electronic unit injector). The c13 is also a push rod engine while the c15 and c18 are overhead cam. The c13 is an incredible reliable engine with tons of power and easy to work on. The only issue with them is around 15 to 20k hours they start to leak oil from the head externally. And don’t run reman injectors, they never last and will guarantee fail. If you do pull an injector, you have to remove the rocker shaft assembly, you HAVE to replace the rocker shaft bolts and injector hold down bolt. There’s a special procedure to set the injector height too so be wary. If anyone asks, you cant add Jakes to it if it didn’t come from the factory with it, reason is, the block and head and the rocker box don’t have the oil passage to accept a Jake brake but that’s only if it doesn’t have one. Most OTR truck engines and articulated truck engines and some loaders and dozers have them. But a power unit no. Another thing to keep an eye on is the engine oil cooler, don’t run an extended life coolant, I see you got the green coolant, that’s good. Extended life eats the rubber away and causes oil to get into the coolant. The manual calls for ELC but steer clear of it. Other than some tips and tricks on them I could tell you on them if you wanna know, they’re really solid reliable strong engines. Love the videos Matt!

All the years i been doing auctions, I have found one common denominator that is absolute. NEVER bid on a individuals item. If it's from a company, then you're fine but 99% guaranteed if it's some billy joe down the road throwing something in the auction to sell, its a bad buy for sure. I have proven myself right dozens of times yet still too stupid to follow my own rule. Off the top of my head i do not recall ever buying a lot from an individual that was listed right, flat out lie, scammed or just not worth the sale price. As for this project. Sure does seem like a fun project. Something rather unique we don't often see on UA-cam.

This is a hydro “jackhammer” concrete removal machine. It uses 10,000-12,000 psi to explode the concrete off of a bridge deck. It works kind of like an old typewriter. Vac truck sucks up the debris. 10,000 psi pressure washer to clean. Then we would overlay the bridge deck.
Hindsight is definitely 20/20. I was yelling at the screen when you first tried to turn it over, "PULL THE INJECTORS THEN ROTATE IT!". LOL It looks like you'll do well with that buy as you part it out. Quite a bit of sellable stuff there, four 100-gallon plus fuel tanks, diamond plating, two engines, aluminum heavy-duty ramps, and a flatbed trailer and other stuff.
You most likely got over 6000 for the. Running engine plus a bit for the parts engine plus every thing else. Good luck

Hydro demolition is waterjet cutting for concrete, which matches with the WOMA on the gauges - WOMA is a German manufacturer of very high pressure water pumps.

Be keeping an eye on those auctions, I work for a company that’s cleaning out one of our yards in camben NJ and they just sent two cranes through Richie brothers, one went for 2900 and the other 2000. I’ve seen both run so there is some good stuff to be bought cheap from here.

Ritchie bros auctions def have some gems, I bought a 1 year old TA 18ft utility trailer for 1900 bucks, MSRP on a new one was 3500. It was repo'd shortly after being sold, so it was virtually unused. I also got a stump grinder, brush cutter, power washer, and a few other items for basically pennies on the dollar.
I bought a tall 16 foot enclosed for $2K. It was 16 months from the date of manufacture and they originally sold for $5600. Mine was owned by an HVAC company whose drivers couldn't drive it worth a dang so they had jackknifed and damaged it. That's OK though, I used it to move my Mom from NY to Georgia and it saved me $$$ doing it that way. And it's come in handy in the years since then.

Mainly because you stay true to you - I love the down home, approachable feel of your videos. You're not pretentious, you're not over the top, you just get things done. I have no mechanical expertise or frankly interest - I have no need for any gear that you work on nor will I ever rebuild an engine or buy an antique piece of equipment. But who cares - you're way more real that "reality tv" while still remaining a true entertainer. The icing on the cake is the soundtrack from the Semi-Supervillians. Hi Matt, the lever arm!!1 if you keep the loader straight the lever arm is longer and you don't climb in the back. The more you turn the loader the shorter the lever arms gets and you climb in the back.

Yeah, Roscoe seemed to be a bit too close for comfort at times.
That thing used to have a huge water pump in the middle, like 800+ bar. It was used to cut concrete or steel, or to drill deep holes in the bedrock or something. I've seen a similiar rigs on at couple of job sites here in europe.

Great score! Part of those fork pockets would be a great start to a mobile tool skid to use on your skid steer. Would be handy to have and use on your place when working on things. You could put your torch and and a welder on it along with other tools when needed. Glad you are keeping the shipping container, you can never have too many. Thanks for the great video.
I can say only this. What-ever trailer you hook onto the A/C Constructor, looks all the better for being hooked to it! Up-grade it all you like, please don't change the look! So Classically Old School with it's Dayton spoke hub system.

For the lay person info for you
Air brakes on a truck are designed to
FAIL SAFE.
No air pressure in the system the brakes will automatically apply via spring pressure.
Air pressure when greater that spring pressure release the brakes.
That is why you sometimes see and hear a driver revving the engine on a truck or bus.
It is also why you sometimes hear a whoosh or escape of air as a driver applies the Handbrake.

Watching Fat Alice struggle with the box really put into perspective just how heavy those ramps were. Also, good idea on making sure your fuel setup is done right. You don't want diesel creek to become diesel creek again.
With the two engines, my guess is the stripped down one was the original ... something went bad on it and they bought a used or remanufactured one and put all the parts on the new one. So I'd guess the stripped one won't run/needs rebuild, and the one with all the stuff will.
Sorry this is a bit of a ramble but thats whats happened here. Ever hear someone say "Flat spots in the starter" or that the starter is weak.
When they say that what most people mean is the starter is shorted but not so bad that it stops working. Happens when you crank the starter so long it smokes or crank it with marginally charged batteries til it smokes. What is happening or happened here. It Caused the insulation inside the armature or the windings or both of the starter inside to melt . But not so badly that it stops working. Can act like the motor is hydro locked. Think that is what's happening here and worth mentioning because of the symptoms.
Dogs are so loyal. All that puppy wanted was to be by Matt's side! How cool is that?
I like Matt and diesel creek and watch all the time but If he does care about his dogs he should put them somewhere safer when he is running equipment like this. It would be a shame if something happened to one of them.

My thoughts were that shop dogs are the smartest. They have the instincts to stay safe around moving heavy equipment. Watched Camarata for years. Levi, Cody and Blue are classic labs.

I was going to prematurely comment that you should unplug those wires as they look like remote controls probably controlled by the float in the tank. We use this setup a lot in dewatering setups
The override and/or maint switches may have bypassed external controls.
We used an electric version of a Woma Gun at a cement factory that I used to work at to blast buildup off of the walls of a pre-heater tower. Its a super high pressure/high flow pressure washer. It was powerful enough to cut through refractory and lift you off of the ground if you weren't paying attention.
W-D 40 is an amazing starting fluid for just about any engine. It burns really hot & protects the engine at the same time as a lubricant. It really works.

That cable is probably an interlock to the low water tank level alarm. Stop the pump running dry.
Great episode as usual. 👍 I’m lucky not to be called diesel creek too since many years ago, in my youth and whilst home alone, thieves tried to syphon 1000 gallons of heating oil from my parents house tank. They must have been disturbed because they left with the syphon still running.
Most of the tanks contents got into the drainage ditch. Our equivalent of your EPA said that they could do the clear up for us but it would cost phone number sized amounts.
I managed to use a submersible pump to skim the oil from the surface of the ditch and into a series of separation tanks. It took all weekend but I got things properly clean. I even got 250 gallons filtered and back in the tank! 🎉.

You should keep the trailer with the box and ramps on it. It can hold your skid steer in the box and put your buckets and other attachments on the flatbed. It would be a great trailer to get auction buys too.
Bit late for that idea but I agree he should keep the trailer and maybe put the ramps from the box on the back of it to load up his skid steer.
He already has a drop neck trailer he picked up in another auction, this one’s not really needed, it’s a shame because with twist locks it’s ideal for moving all those isoboxes he has lying around.

Matt, that 1000 gallon tank woud be nice for mobile pressure washing, whether for yourself or to sell.
By the way this outfit is built, I wouldn't suggest power washing your equipment with it. With the amount of PSI output, you may be able to clean a stump out of the ground, real quick. Just a thought.
I was watching one of our mobile crane drivers lifting a very heavy load one day at work. I saw that both his back wheels were about half a foot off the ground. I said hey your wheels are off the ground!. He said YEAH ! IF YER NOT FLOATIN' YER NOT LIFTIN!. He was always aware of what was happening around him and he had decades of experience behind him.
Man....there's a ton of good stuff on there worth what you paid for. Hell....the filter canister on the assembled engine is about $2500 new. The trailer could bring you your spend on this one.
With truck/trailer prices recently, the flatdeck by itself is worth more than what you paid for the entire setup.
Agreed! And on top of that, sometimes what provides a vital function for one outfit is so specific that the component parts are worthless to anyone as assembled… which means that stripping that trailer down unlocked all the resale value the thing has to offer!

What a treat to watch you getting your Mr. Cool units installed as I get going this morning!
Don't feel bad about taking a bit more time getting it done than you thought it should. Hubby and I are both good at getting distracted from the project we're working on, sooooo, last spring, we set out to replace one blinking light fixture in my kitchen. Easy half day job until we find out that the fixture was probably not the main problem when we found evidence of mice chewing on the wire. And the further we followed it, the more damage there was. So, next thing we know, half the ceiling is down. And the paneling was off the wall. And more than enough holes uncovered to let in a few mice. Repaired the framing and opened up the floor to explore a soft spot and redid some plumbing and patched the floor framing. I'm sure you get the picture. Enough details. My kitchen is still a construction zone with ceiling getting insulated one can of spray foam and a few pieces of Styrofoam at a time. And cold weather catching up with us here in Central Ohio where our weather seems to match yours fairly closely.
