    Having those containers as a parts storage is a pretty nice addition. Keeps the junk out of the main shop and you could maybe rig it so that you can pop straight from the main shop into these containers, for those frigid days :D

    • @OutlawH2
      @OutlawH2 2 роки тому +8

      Honestly i was thinking the same thing. Set them up near the main shop or somewhere that puts them in a good position between the main shop and container shop to act as central storage for the both of them. Knowing Matt he will prob fill them up pretty quickly especially if he brings in more autocar parts trucks or something lol

    I say keep them all. Use that side pass through design, connect all three side-by-side. Set them all on concrete piers to level all three as one unit. I'd relocate those Vidmar cabinets to the main shop and use the containers as remote/long-term storage space.

  • @Sattracer
    @Sattracer 2 роки тому +162

    Just a suggestion, but, why not go ahead and re-assemble the 3 boxes as a warehouse and use that for parts and expensive tool storage? They are much easier to lock up and secure things under a camera system. It also gives you storage outside of your new building to allow work instead of clutter being underfoot.

    • @jimnaz5267
      @jimnaz5267 2 роки тому +40

      good thinking. it would be easy to clutter up the permanent structure. over time, clutter has a way of filling up and interfering with premium dry, HVAC cement floor workspace . the boxes are a perfect way to greatly expand the usable space. a key will be to inventory parts and tools on your computer as you assign real locations to them. there are inexpensive programs available of PC and Mac to guide you through the process of laying out your storage area and assigning parts to places. Imagine you were going to sell each tool, piece and part and treat them all that way. It would be easy to lose track of things and end up buying needed things you already have. I do it all the time, and it pisses me off.

      I really don't understand why people want those storage containers so bad, the price you pay per square foot of storage space is crazy high, and the way they are laid out, makes it very difficult to get things in and out, like a forty foot long hallway that you are trying to work in/ move around in. The tow service had my truck and empty trailer and would haul it back to GR. My guardian angle had an Auto Car with a V12 diesel. Not sure if you are up for this, but as the containers go, seems making one into a long thin rack on each side container will be very good for organization. Putting all the cabinets in another container or half the container or whatever configuration works for you and fill it with toys the rest of the way. Then you have a choice of disposing of the older and one of your newly acquired containers. The other option is to put one container on top of the other to store material that is smaller and lighter, possibly less often accessed through one of those side doors. Only an idea. Love to hear yours?

      I understand if you need it for a job then will not use it again... those things are very heavy evidenced by the lifting the rear end at the pickup yard.

    Hi Matt.
    Keep all the containers, there'll be one full of yard stuff and other full of kids stuff in no time and half of the parts will be floating around the dreamshop floor looking for a place to be put since everything is allready stacked full.
    One could be used as yard shed with overhang to accomodate grill and lounge area and other 2 stacked side by side just to storage

    Pre Waterjet etc, you would drill a pilot hole, weld a blade together cut the internal profile, and then cut the blade apart for big parts.

    Here's a salamander story for ya. Almost 40 years myself and 2 buds bought a house that was pretty solid but need fixing up for $5000. First thing on order was heat. The old house has an old gravity furnace original for coal that had a gas conversion burner. Company long out of business in the conversion assembly. So ...i just pulled the assembly and pointed a salamander (50K BTU) into the firebox...worked beautifully. Cheap heat too

    Hey Matt happy healthy new year, you are one of my top three video faves over all, I log about 5 + hours a day on u tube, I have spent 3 of those hours watching and listening to you narrate your videos. I especially liked your video rebuilding the diesel powered compactor, great stuff and pouring the floor for your new shop. Congrats.

    34:20 you just needed longer chains, assuming you had the height to lift it. The reason they broke is the angle of the chains was too steep. 30 degree angle doubles the stress on the chains, whereas 60 degrees only cuts load capacity by about 15% compared to vertical. Lookup "sling angle stress".

    Those containers are way to nice to party with. For what you have in them, I"m sure you can find space for them out in the trees somewhere. YOu can NEVER have too much storage space.
