    in 2019 i had a dream i was a whirling dervish. that got me more into sufism. these stepping patterns help me connect to how whirling is done. ill return here for my refresher course

    I whirled about a half hour. I had a amzing trance feeling and it cleaned my whole mind.

    I can share a lesson on sufi whirling taught by a shiekh in the 1970's which he explained is the only way to learn the type of whirling the dervishes do:
    If you allow your energy to be centered in your head or left hemisphere thinking brain, you will get dizzy. If you center in your abdominal area, your gut, you will develop nausea. If you bring your full awareness into your compassionate heart and rest it there, allowing energy to flow in from the universe through your raised upturned hand and flow down through your heart and down/out through your downturned hand to bless all things on earth, not allowing your ego to grasp, the diivine energy will flow right through your heart and you will not become dizzy or tired. At the end of 5-30 minutes of whirling you can stop and bow your head and torso low, experiencing no dizzyness or falling over. One foot is more or less rooted in a particular spot pivoting more or less on the ball of your foot as the heel shifts during each turn. I was a dancer, and i didn't practice this, but i never forgot the fascinating symbolism of the dance. Let me know if you think this has merit. ❤

    How wide should a bagua octagon be?

    • @playpoivideos
      @playpoivideos  2 місяці тому +2

      It's just a concept framework. It can be useful to mess around with drawing them on the ground, but it's hard to get it the exact right size for your stepping, especially since your stepping may get wider or more narrow depending on the tempo of the music and other parameters.
      Better to think of where the centre of the octagon would be, and to visualize stepping around that centre in an octagon.
      Again, messing around with an actual octagon can be helpful, just don't take it too seriously. It's just a framework to play with, and getting to rigid about a certain step size could backfire.

    Whirling is not for uniting with the divine. İt is for realising there was never a seperation. 🩵
