      Hosea was the only one in the gang that Dutch respected and listened to most of the time. There's a reason why Dutch's madness and the gang's destruction accelerated when Hosea died.

    • @funnyvalentinedidnothingwrong
      @funnyvalentinedidnothingwrong 5 років тому +39

      Could he though? It feels as though, at some point between the robbery going bad and them escaping from Guarma, something snapped permanently in Dutch. Whether it was seeing Hosea die, or nearly dying himself, or enduring the torture and starvation, Dutch broke. Him killing that old lady is proof enough of that, I think. Once he did that, the writing was on the wall for his spiral into madness, and the rest of RDR2 was inevitable.

    • @sean543213
      @sean543213 5 років тому +92

      @@funnyvalentinedidnothingwrong You know I'll never understand why people think Dutch killing that old lady was evil. If he killed her so he didn't have to pay her or not to leave any loose ends, that'll be one thing. But Dutch gave her the last gold bar we had from the bank yet she still demanded more gold that we didn't have. To the point of threatening Dutch with a knife. She absolutely was going to betray us if we let her go. I just don't understand why Dutch was reasoning killing her to Arthur with "I know some Spanish" or "I know human beings" when he literally could've just said:
      "She demanded for more gold than what we had and threatened me with a knife Arthur! She knows who we are and we don't have any more gold to ensure her silence. If she was willing to commit treason on her own people for a gold bar, then imagine what Fussar could've offered her for information about us. If we let her go, she would have definitely sold us out."

      Also shows that Hosea was Arthur's real mentor and Father Figure, not Dutch. Dutch didn't care enough to really get to know Arthur, Hosea on the other hand knew Arthur's gentler and smarter side underneath the tough guy act. The attention to detail in this game is amazing. I might be minority here but I'd love an Arthur DLC (since John had one) about the time John joined the gang + the drama with Annabelle and Colm and his brother. Considering John has been in the gang for a decade-ish or so, and the O'Driscoll/Van der Linde feud is implied to be almost just as long, it'd be cool to play as a young Arthur, develop his relationship with John before he abandoned the gang (which changed his dynamic with Arthur), and see a bit of young Hosea and Dutch, while still having the pleasure of playing as Arthur again, sans death (his, anyway) c: Not to mention mayyybe seeing how some of the gang members joined the crew, a bit about Mac and Davey, etc etc.
    Just, seeing a bit more of Dutch's and Hosea's friendship would be pretty amazing. These two have such a strong bond and I really enjoy how different but supportive of each other they are. Perhaps too supportive, in Hosea's case. They all feel human. It's nice.

      Red Dead 3 can go one of two ways.
      A prequel about the O' Driscoll Vander Linde feud.
      A sequel about Jack Marston fleeing after he kills Ross.
      Personally I hope that it's another prequel. Maybe even Dutch could be the protagonist. And then we can see what made John and Arthur respect him so much. The lore to red dead is so fascinating and I want more.

    • @akiriith
      @akiriith 5 років тому

      Ethan Bradley I agree! Personally I thought of a DLC because I really wanted to play as Arthur. RDR 2 is an amazing game, but because it's focused on Arthur, it didn't really answer all my questions about John- such as what about his daughter, what about that "proposal" Abigail mentions in RDR 1 that he did with a gun to her head (Honestly, we were robbed), and what about John being Dutch's golden boy (almost feels like that should be Arthur) or the thing that Bill, Dutch and Javier kept mentioning, about how he appeared arrogant/morally superior to them for doing things like marrying Abigail, especially when he was such a horrible husband/father early on? Because the focus is on Arthur we don't really... See those details about John. So the reason I mentioned a DLC is because if the focus is on Arthur we could see those details about his own character more clearly.
      As for the possibility of a whole RDR 3 in that timeline, to me, read dead redemption = the fall of the west and the final days of the outlaws. Playing at a time where they're on the rise feels... Off somehow. Not that I'd complain about a RDR 3 set in that time lmao, tho personally I like Dutch being a mysterious character and not knowing his motivations too clearly. I'd love to play as Hosea or even as a new character. As for Jack, I'm torn because I do wanna know what happens to him a lot, but thematically it's just so good that his life is a mystery. I would love a game about him though, hands down. I actually love Jack, and I don't mind his voice or his anger/behavior or everything else. It's fitting for where his character is at the moment and it fascinates me.

      @@ethanbradley2089 Most likely they will make a brand new story with new characters. If it's going to be a Redemption game they can't do the young gang idea, because your character always has to die while achieving redemption in a RDR game. That happens to neither Dutch nor Hosea.

      Everyone has it wrong or right at the same time.
      Dutch, fundamentally, is a bad man. A man with a superiority complex & one of megalomania.
      However, he was also a man whom attempted to be kind & resolved to assist the downtrodden. A man that attempted to overcome his true nature & be something better, especially with a support system (Hosea, Arthur, John, etc) that permits him to realize his own potential for benevolence.
      Good men don’t need rules, & a support system. Bad men attempting to be better are reliant upon them.

    At 2:30 you can hear the sadness in Hosea. It almost sounds like he's choking up and on the verge of tears. That conversation about reminiscing was a bit of foreshadowing and it seemed like it was Dutchs unofficial goodbye to Hosea. It's sad. Very sad. Because Hosea dying was what sent Dutch over the edge. After coming back from Guarma he talks about how much he misses Hosea and he starts going downhill from there. In fact I don't think Dutch really cared all that much about Lenny dying as much as he did Hosea. That Saint Denis bank robbing job was about the same as the Blackwater robbery, only the Blackwater robbery was worse because more of the gang died and they didn't get away with anything. The Saint Denis bank robbery job at least they got away with the gold that is until it sank. I wonder what if the boat didn't sink, what was their plan? Were they just gonna find an island and start living there never to return to the rest of the gang? How would they send for them? How would they let them know where they were? So if the boat never sank, Dutch, Micah, Bill Javier and Arthur would've stayed on some island with the gold and who knows what would've happened from there. Then again, if the boat never sank and they got to their destination then that would've resulted in John getting hanged, and the rest of the gang eventually getting caught and either put in jail or killed. So when you think about it, it's actually good that the boat sank.
    IDK why but everytime I walk into a conversation between 2 people after they're done talking, Arthur normally says his unique dialogue related to that topic but everytime I do it, Arthur doesn't say anything about it, he just says random stuff so IDK why it does that.

    in every interaction, have you noticed it was always Dutch seeming troubled by something? Dutch saw out Hosea to bury Jake, because how things went down with Micah burning down the house. Second one, he was worried about Hosea, they shared a moment together that showed a lot of unspoken things that were probably on his mind. Third one, Dutch is brooding, thinking, probably still reliving what happened in Black water. Hosea notices and comes for him, and Dutch seems better after admitting he messed up in Black Water, and feeling Hosea was still with him. But the fourth one, that one seems deeper. Dutch has been running from Black Water and trying to keep his people alive and now he's surrounded by people he was taught to hate in the south. It starts with him checking on Hosea, probably for some experience they both have to have shared feelings. And it ends up Dutch confides in Hosea even with the anger, and him deflating a bit with the advice. "Sad thing is good people do bad things." "LIke us?" "Just like us" "Sure, and fhey fought something else, and they did bad things,...such is the world." "I always wondered, why aint we better?" And Hosea gives him an honest answer that isn't about the south anymore, its deeper more like about them. "Now that..I don't know." "Now those are some problems we can't solve." To Arthur about their pasts. And the last one, Dutch is troubled about the unknowns of the city, and how to get everyone out of a big job. This is it, the big break he's always talking about, you can see he wants it to work, and Its Hosea planning with him, giving him hope. Even teased him with his catch phrase. "....Have a little faith Dutch." And actually gets a laugh out of him, I know hw was talking to Arthur but it felt more like a relieved laugh, like it was his and Hosea's big break. The score they always needed or wanted. Then, it goes to shit Hosea is captured, probably distracting the pinkertons long enough to let Abagail get away, Hosea would do that, protect his gang his family at all costs. Dutch has been slowly loosing reality since he hit his head on the bust job with Lenny and Arthur with the trolly. Its not obvious until Guarma, but the only person he would have confided in, the only person he trusted to let behind his walls, was dead. There was only a slowly declining mental state, and probably an honest lack of caring after that. it's very likely the pinkertons didn't do anything but follow the trail and plant doubt with Micah after Guarama, watching the gang tear itself apart from the madness in Dutch unchecked and Micah's influence on him in mourning of Hosea. I wouldn't be surprised if all that choas,. killing Cornwall, was revenge for Hosea. Thats a sad thought, especially when you see Dutch's face watching Arthur dying on that cliff with Micah telling him to come with him, he realized just how badly he messed up, how he got his family killed. And he couldn't deal with it, turning away and going by himself. After 1899, you see his struggle in his mind, when you met him in 1907, and his death in 1911. When he tells John you cant fight everything...but he cant stop either. Dutch wanted a better life, wanted those he cared for safe. His anger and his pain his pride wouldn't let him live quietly, not like John. Maybe if Hosea was still alive, maybe if the bank job worked, it wouldn't be that way. Dutch disagreed and had spats with Hosea, but he was able to confide in him, keep his demons at bay. Its a well written story of two characters and those that were affected by them.

    For whatever reason it seems like Dutch could only be truly and wholly vulnerable with Hosea. Hosea never threatened him mostly because he was never threatened by Dutch. They respected one another even when they vehemently disagreed, and Hosea never took any crap from Dutch which pissed him off and vice versa but both knew the other only meant well even when they fought. At least deep down.
    Whenever Dutch admits he's made a mistake with anyone but Hosea he's very defensive, or passes it by quickly, but when he talks about Blackwater with Hosea he is clearly ashamed of himself, but Hosea doesn't throw it in his face.
    Clearly they both had differing outlooks on life, but I think the key is that they could be vulnerable brothers with each other. With their unruly sons in Arthur and John. It truly did all begin falling apart with Hosea's death in my opinion. Exacerbated by the brutality of war on Guarma that broke Dutch.

If they're fighting 60% of the time, they're statistically more likely to break up. This is the case with family and friends as well. People are willing to forgive the people they care about, even if they don't deserve it, but in Dutch's case, the negatives piled on and on and reached an unbearable level. I would also argue they weren't very well established at all, as they were vagabonds, constantly moving from place to place, and resorted to petty crime to get by. The fact that this conversation can be missed entirely makes it even more valuable, in my opinion, and why each person's playthrough of Rdr2 is so unique, as it's shaped by the conversations you happen to overhear and the actions you choose to take both in the main plot and outside it on the road. Man I love this game and it's characters.
    Except you, Milton. You know what you did.

    just love the natural and fluid bond between them, like the actors actually did alot of like, rascally things when they were young and were friends at the time

    Hosea was the only person Dutch could admit he was wrong to, and considering Hosea’s the eldest in the gang I believe he’s like a father figure to him, which is also why he takes (most) of his advice to heart unlike Arthur or anyone else (except for Micah for some reason).

    1:08 I'm dying. The campfire ring dang doo campfire song with Hosea is going on, but he is also in a completely different area next to Dutch.

    In the making of these videos, I want to know how many recordings of dialogue have been ruined by uncle or reverend walking up and talking to Arthur, screwing up the sound of the conversation

    Hahaha Hosea making fun of Dutch's "Have faith!" got me! I love the level of humour in this game. Once when I talked to Lenny during the celebration when Jack comes back they joke about the "LENNEEH!" episode

    Hosea was the only member who was the same level as Dutch, best friends treating each other the same, the only one Dutch didn't mentor, Hosea probably mentored him.

    When I first played this game it was kind of dark and scary and I don't know why maybe the music and the tone it just felt real. Not that it doesn't feel real today but after playing it so many times it's just not like the first playthrough. I wish I could erase my memory and go back and play it for the first time again. I literally bought a PS4 just to play this game

    Lose Hosea, Dutch lose his brain
    Lose Arthur, Dutch lose his hands

    Just heartwarming to see them reminisce of old times when people are singing about the ring-dang-do in the background
