Hi Dan, when we have the kids with us they sleep in the awning. They use a standard electric blanket on low setting over night, between a mattress and their sleeping bags. They say they are cosy, especially as they each have their own small festival type tent to make their own den hideaway.
I got that small fan heater it works great at home not got to test it in the van yet still waiting my first trip away in it once my carer has passed her B+E not long to go now
Have used oil filled radiator for years. It is heavy but really useful for drying wet/damp towels as well as using it to supplement the heating system in our caravan which is pretty poor
Hi Dan, Last year we purchased a converter heater instant heat light weight ideal for awning and light for travelling keep up the great videos. Liz Liverpool
Hi Dan, we got our first caravan last year. Took us a while to figure out (not sure why) that we should have a heater in the awning. We've found that the fan heater from home is great. It can oscillate to spread the heat around and also a thermostat so switches off when it comes up to heat. Great, especially since we are in Scotland and the nights can be a bit chilly but its still lovely to sit out in the awning. Thanks though, another great video! Janice
Galloway Getaways what puts me off the fan heaters is the noise. What puts me off all heaters is a lot sites DO NOT like you using heaters in awnings due to the cost. Image 50 vans with heaters on in the awning. The meter must be spinning off the wall!
edward charles We don't find our fan heater noisy at all and have yet to come across a site which has objected to us using one. Perhaps we've just been lucky.
We have a mini oil filled radiator which negates one of the disadvantages you mentioned. It was fine in the Coachman but with the Lunar being bigger it might not be as effective. We won't know until we have our first outing in it. We got it from Asda but you can find them in most retailers. This and the fan heater would be the ideal combination .
Hi Dan. I was looking for a suitable heater when I suddenly remembered that I had a 2kw Parasene frost fighter electric greenhouse heater in the shed. I dug it out and it's perfect with its three settings; 1kw, 2kw heating or cool air for Summer and a thermostat with a frost setting to get the temperature just right. I like it because I think it will be better suited for awning use as it's designed to be used in a damp greenhouse. Keep up the great work. Steve.
Thanks for that informative video Dan. We are looking to buy a heater for our awning as it will be our first time using it next week with the kids over half term and looking for something affordable but also safe and actually does the job and keeps the awning warm.
I hope you will have the chance over the coming months to maybe do a review of awnings, I have recently had to go out and purchase a new awning for my caravan and to my surprise I found that many of the caravan dealerships do not have many awnings up on display. And was advised to go to see the NEC show. as an awning is a very expensive purchase it would be good to have some input on what is good out there on the market.
THEY HAVE THIS ONE AND ANOTHER STYLE (£10) AT TOOL STATION - I HAD ONE LIKE THIS FOR MANY YEARS AND THEY WORK GREAT - BLOWN AIR IS THE ONLY WAY TO GO - YOU CAN PUT THEM ANYWHERE JUST LIKE ANY OTHER HEATER AND OF COURSE YOU CAN SIT IN FRONT OF THEM - AIR COMES IN THE BACK AND OUT THE FRONT - SIMPLE
Hi just bought out new heater for the van. Great advice thanks so much. I'll be having a G and T whyll it's getting warm and toastie lol. Thanks again. 👍
hi Dan , great videos, I'm learning a lot from you, can you help with awning condensation, on the last trip we had to take the awning down early during the day as if we took it down the morning we departed the site it would be soaking wet, our awning is a thin tent-like material with inflatable frame.
Hi Dennis, Ok condensation in awnings will be a huge issue this time of year, the best way to limit it is, if you can - get the awning down the afternoon before you go home. if you need to keep it up and the awning is damp, wipe the insides down with a clean micro fibre towel, and open as many doors / windows to improve air circulation. If you find it's wet when packed away, we take all doors and windows out and hand them on the bannister until all the components are dry. Hope that helps Dan
hi,can you tell me about the fan heater from B&M, the fan heater itself works with a motor pushing out heat through an element, would this not be dear to run. thanks
Hi Bill the fan heater is 1Kw / 2Kw in power consumption (depending on setting) , the fan will only draw a very small amount of current, the rest being the heater element. Any heater will be quite expensive as they do consume quite alot of power. and in todays climate of rising energy prices, perhaps heating an awning isnt the best use of power. Hope that helps.
hi dan. I´m not a Caravaner or RV owner. I have a very small single story bungalow in the woods. We also bought the quartz heater for about the same price as you paid....and we found it about as useless as toothache !!!!!
hi! i have been looking into caravaning durring winter, and was wondering how much power you use pr. week or pr. month? Im just wondering what i would cost in electricity since you obviously would use a bit more when its cold. great video as always!
Dan do you not use your caravan built in heater/gas fire? we use our's over night and a small blow heater like yours in the day time as it's very effective. Thanks for your input ;-)
Quick question last night I looked on your trips and adventures and this video was at the bottom saying it was released in the 8th January is this correct
Hi Gina, we don't have one in ours, but a friend does. All i know is it heats the caravan up really quickly really well. It also doesnt consume as much power as one of these "off the shelf types". It might be better to ask someone who has one for any issues or opinions, but from me its thumbs up.
Hi Dan thanks for your reply I didn't know that not all UK caravan had a heater built-in. Both of the UK caravans iv had have had truma gas electric heaters and they work great in my opinion.
But you do have Alde central heating. So maybe the question should be rather: do you find you need additional heating while the central heating is heating up?
For the Alde to initially warm up - it takes ages. Once warm, its brilliant. Thats why we purchased the additional heaters to get heat into the van, quickly.
That little fan heater looks the dogs danglies, sounds just what I am looking for! However after looking via the link you posted. The reviews seem to point to it being a fire hazard in some cases!!!!! Just saying as I see it
Hi Dan, slightly unrelated but any chance of a video comparing awning pegging techniques in hard standing. Lump hammers great to get them in but getting them back out is another story. Heard of people using a drill....? A pegging video would be great 👍

But is it safe for the body to have artificial heating constantly?
Dan what I like about your videos is your a natural.
They just work, no messing.
Keep up the great work.
Thank you Gary - thats really kind.
Have a great weekend.
Dan
We have a argos value fan heater it has a tip switch and is thermostatic only comes on when needed and super light

Just been to b and m and bought that heater for £10.99 great price and really does work well
Dan, again, just good advice with sound comments about usability.

Hi Dan, in the interest of balance, we have a 1200 watt halogen which work amazingly well in the awning.

Good advice we have a fan heater and they are really good and heat a room really fast. Thanks Dan😁

We have a fan heater like that, warms up the caravan in a few minutes and doesn't need to ran for long :) Very helpful video, as always :)

Great advice Dan. We was researching this topic a few months ago before we purchased a propex heater. Thanks for making these really useful videos. 👍
Dyson heater works very well, but it is a bit on the pricey side
Hi Dan just to say good video very useful tips look forward to your up coming videos all the best ,,kev,,

it was uploaded on the 8th of Jan - yes.
So how do u find the heater that is built into the caravan.

2KW fan heaters are great, but another downside is that you will probably end up tripping the fuse at the EHU post.
Good point, im creating a video showing what a EHU post will give you and the sort of things you can run in a caravan -
Dan
