Rhyniognatha - Taming, Locations & Abilities - Guide to Ark's NEW CREATURE

The Rhyniognatha is Ark's newest creature, having just arrived in a patch a few hours ago. Coming from a community vote and commonly referred to as the "Sky Giga", we're going over it and looking at how to tame one, and what it can do.
It's real world counterpart is known only from a fragment of a fossilised head and was suspected to have been the worlds first insect, or possibly a centipede. Over 400 million years old it was only a couple of milimetres long, but Ark's overseer rarely plays by the rules.

For the seeing the health part. They can be netted by a net gun, which then allows you to wittle the health down whilst being able to check it with the magnifying glass. Personally I had a 143 impregnate my tame and I could only feed it once during the craving stage, which resulted in a 62 Rhy. So it drops heavily when not being fed the cravings.

Drag weight affects the lvl, Cravings impact the level and the level of the creature impacts the lvl. So use a Creature that is super mutated with 254 in every stat if you want the best stats, and do every craving. If you can't do one, put it in a cryoball and then put it out. then let it be impregnated again.

To get higher lvl rhynio you need a creature with high drag weight the highest creatures with drag weight are rexes,Gigas,carchs,and brontos.mutated high levels brontos are the best option bc you can get rhynios up to lvl 850
Also the more u max out ur brontos stats the rhynio if you get all of its craving the rhynio will get the parents colors and their stats which is pretty awesome

There's still a lot of testing to be done to find what settings affect what aspect of it, ideally I would've already done it, but at 3am there's only so much you can do 😪
People are really wondering about the cravings list for this creature.
I have to assume it connects to the level you get, as a 150 (225) + 150 should not produce a 107 by any stretch. It seems the most logical thing to increase it's level.
I need to do some more testing - ideally should've done that first I guess, 3am brain doesn't function well :D - whether that is adjusted by taming multipliers or not, it might be a fixed time and the reduced gestation didn't allow for enough. Given how random and rare some of the items can be, I can't imagine many will complete the full cravings regardless though.
They don’t even work on our servers. You try to claim the baby, and the server instantly crashes and rollbacks 1 minute. Every single time!🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

If you want to get close just net it.. shotty to the body and ak to lower hp while using mag. Cravings increases chances of mutations passing on and it can ask for any egg/soups/ele/gasoline/absorbent

I’ve only found one of them so far but I’m unsure how to get more to spawn
I turned my dino spawn multiplier up to 4 and still never saw more than one, although I was usually wiping after a couple of minutes to try and look for new locations. There's a spawn code in the description/pinned comment if you want to manually do it, but for natural spawns the only option is to wait and hope.

The rhynio can be netted, which makes the damaging portion of the much easier.

It's a pity that it's not on Fjordur, which doesn't mean it can't be moved :)
With some config editing or mods you should be able to add it to other maps at least :)

What’s the aggression level on these things? Do they attack the player on sight or only if aggravated? How much damage do they do with the impregnation attack? I got two rexes I tamed at lowish levels on my solo play but I need them to survive the hit I’d imagine. Can they be transferred to other maps and which ones? I imagine being flyers knocks them out of the running for aberration.
As far as aggression level goes, it was attacking *everything*, wild or tame. It's possible there's a couple that it ignores, but everything I saw get near it it went for.
For the impregnation damage, it didn't seem to be particularly high. The 150 I used was hitting for 126 on both the regular attacks and the impregnation. The Trike I used had 2700hp for reference, if unsure it's probably best to tame something throw away that you don't care about.
Transfer should absolutely be possible, Aberration has restrictions to bringing in non-native tames IIRC specifically for that reason.
if you shoot a flying creature with the petrifying goo, does it fall to the ground?
and will it follow you underwater if set to follow?

Found the first one and killed it to get the pheromone but never found the second one. And the pheromone dissolve already :(
is it not yet released to consoles? I can't find it anywhere on the island.
There are patchnotes for it being added to both Xbox and Playstation so it should be there, but in my testing it was extremely rare.
On console I've seen and killed only one of them on lost island in the swamp next to the cave with the pirate ship in it. Been on the island and lost island since and nothing

I have heard Rexes give the max taming effectiveness. Might be worth confirming?
Certainly a lot more testing to be done :) My assumption is it works on drag weight, so perhaps something like a Bronto or Giga would have the best chance.

I saw a tip basically use a net gun. And you said a magnifying glass? Is this like the base game one? And not a modded one?
This is completely vanilla 🙂 Which means if you're not on a cluster there's going to be no netgun for the Island too, although it is an option for Lost Island 🙂
Could you use a daeodon to keep it alive before it dies of starvation?
If it's looking rough it's probably your best bet, or a Snow Owl on Lost Island. I tried powerfeeding mine but the health was still dropping quicker than it was going up. The Trike was severely low on HP when it got impregnated already, so either the health drop isn't THAT significant, or it's done as a percentage.
Having your Dino with infinite stats still causes it to die after the timer

@@freynlives one thing I've noticed is the craving timer sort of affects the health loss. The closer to craving the higher the health loss once craving is satisfied the Dino can heal.
Hmhm do i need to kill a high level for the hormone or just do i need i high level to impregnate one?
The hormone comes from a male of any level, your offsprings stats will come from the parents but are a little more complicated than normal. The larger the creature you impregnate, and the more cravings you satisfy, the more of the stats are inherited. The max being from Giga's, Carchars and Bronto's I believe.

For pvp this would not be a fight but a tank and support tame
I've never done any PvP, but my assumption is that it would be used to lock down and/or remove specific tames, especially with that damage reduction from the resin armour allowing it to get in close. Certainly not a damage dealer though.

The cravings I've seen/heard are pretty extensive and mostly horrible so far, I'm not sure that's the worst but it's probably the rarest!!

Am I the only one that’s having issues of finding these creatures like I’ve been to the swamp twice cause my base is near the swamp and I’m playing on lost island and stuff and some reason I just cannot find one. Can someone please like help me like where do they responded and stuff like I know they Spond in the swamp but they’re just not responding for me.

how do you force feed it (pheromone) (pc)
All you should need to do is put the item into the dinosaurs inventory, and press E on it :) Same way you feed creatures narcotics when taming, or meat to heal them.
What about the walking on water ability
Is that a confirmed ability or one of the original suggestions?

I did the taming on Ragnarok, purely for the large open ground (it doesn't actually spawn on that map)

Has anyone put a pregnant dino in a cryopod to see if it removes the pregnancy or changes the craving ?
My understanding is it kills the baby

You can actually net them to make it easier to lower their health without killing them!!!
Net's aren't an option on The Island :)
I play pve I used a beh. Trap net gun and impregnated a 450 rex did 3 out of 4 cravings the bug was lv 20 it hatched at lv 90 also make sure your tribute Dino has atleast 100kh due to health and food dropping dramatically while pregnant otherwise you will have to sit there healing it with an owl.

Official patchnotes say The Island/Lost Island only, was that on an official or modded server? Because they *shouldn't* be there... but bugs (heh) wouldn't be out of the question.
