You people, I’ve been a Dietrich fan for over 15 years and I understand everything Maria is talking about. People cannot accept that their idols are COMMON human beings and have flaws and usually Hollywood actors are narcissistic. No surprise at all for me. I read Maria’s book twice and she is WONDERFUL⭐️⭐️⭐️❗️❗️❗️ Genius writer ✍️
@@Susieq26754 Marlene was a queen by birth. Her mother put her high on the pedestal, thus letting her first daughter Liesel know that Marie Magdalene was very special. In 1930 Hollywood director Josef von Sternberg fell in love with her and made her a star in Hollywood. So, in her life she was being spoiled by many people who mattered....
I am reading Maria’s bio about her Dietrich, the book is very different from this documentary. Strange. I also believe having VERY German parents of the early 29th century is very different than parenting today, I had a very European upbringing and have been around many celebrities and have experienced Berlin, a way different world than most Americans would be comfortable with. Marlene Was adored by her family for her looks from her beginnings.
Not to mention her role in "The Trials at Nuremberg" surrounded by some of the greatest cast one could ever be graced with...And Oh Boy did she Hold her own in it...What a Lady; What a Part...What a Great but Tragic Film...
At 45:14 when she says "I think it's great to be an icon, to be a movie star but you cannot pray to these people, "I have great respect for the profession Dietrich, but as a human being I reserve my respect". Such a perfect spot on statement. We shouldn't idolize celebrities. B/C even though they're hero's on screen, in real life they could be the worst judgement of character to follow. And yet we sadly do just that. Honestly, actors, social media influencers and reality tv stars (Kartrashians) tend to be the most narcissistic people. I think you have to be narcissistic, if you crave to want to be seeing by millions.
Having a child opens us to the judgment of that child, forever. every parent must accept that. But frankly this magnificent woman's life deserves to be seen from a perspective of some other than a child who is working out her own trauma. i grew up among the children of movies stars, yet I have never seen the bio of a male film star, portrayed from the narrow perspective.of a judgmental child. Obviously, her daughter has every right to her opinion, but her mother's life deserves a broader-minded biographer.
yes , you make a good point . Many many actors have not exactly been good parents or partners . I think what she did during WW2 with the army was incredible and she deserves a lot of credit for that .
I love marliene because one moment she was up the next she was down she was one 🆒😎 crazy 😵😰😝😘😟😕😱😨😏😇😠😂😁lady of that time,r,I,p marliene hope u love where ever you are,god bless 💟🌈✌️☮️☯️Mrs 😎dude 😅☯️☮️✌️😘💟
Q9:45 not every star ignored family duties. Aside from Jayne Mansfield's buxom excesses, she was a good mother - famed daughter Mariska Hargitay of CSI confirms it.
"At 50 you start to feel time slip that one more last line creeping in from old Father Time. Your alot more wiser now and can hold the moment. Sounds like they were in bad shape for a women three-fours of her act is dancing and singing on the stage.

How much do you need to hear to know that Dietrich was a abusive mother. Beyond just being human.
*дочь дура. Гнига дерьмо.*

@@jeshoes40The 29 century hasn’t happened yet
I saw her perform live in st Paul minasota. It was wonderful I was mesmerized
Fantastic to see and hear. THANK YOU
LOVED MARLENE.... Like Marilyn.....such screen presence!!!! She was truly one of a kind!!
She's got to be one of the most beautiful powerful of "Voice" among greatest secrets of Trade Secrets Actor's Guilds.
Wonderful and tragic, but truly wonderful!

I think she was better in that one than Judy Garland. Dietrich probably deserved a nomination...very nice downplaying.
What a rare woman.

That was well put.....opened my mind a bit.

Agreed !
You could really feel how much contempt she had for her mother
Yeah. She seems to have spent a great deal of effort to remain emeshed with her mother. I feel for her.
I don’t know why I’m here, but great video
brilliant
Plaiting her hair and pulling it back ; a precursor to 'Hollywood Tape".
To be honest, and her daughter said in an interview, she was just plain odd in many ways.

What a woman.
I'd name my daughter Marlene, and I'm not even planning to get married❤
Video is quite choppy, which is a shame
Awful editing.
"Not going to work horse me to death and have me trying to carry the whole picture in my mid70's, no no here.
There a big bits missing from this film
Bullshit editing. Completely destroys a very pertinent and relevant message from a woman who had much to say. Shame on you, editor. :-(
What was the message?
Weird editing , such a shame as this appeared be interesting.

Great stars do not raise great children. Just enjoy the money you got for the only thing you will be remembered for.
She was a horrible mother! She only cared about her own fame.
queer icon and resistance fighter
An excellent actress but a lousy singer.
I liked her but I didn't think she could sing at all.
even after her daughter supposedly retired to Devon she continued to make money from her mother. total nasty

It would be easier to say what man didn’t she have 😂😂
Yes, @RG S, these documentaries love to romanticize being just plain “easy!”
What's wrong with that daughter??
QueenOfAll_ Lady Rose Nothing! The daughter is now 95yrs old. Her actress mother was self-centred and put the daughter throw a lot.... u work it out
Well why would you expect the daughter not to be a bit weird with a MOTHER like Dietrich!!

If we need to explain abuse to you. You may need therapy yourself.
Absolutely nothing!
Never cared for her OR Garbo..
So why you here?
Numerous affairs with men and women. So that is where all the craziness started...
