- Maria Callas, born as Maria Anna Cecilia Sofia Kalogeropoulou on December 2, 1923, in New York City, was one of the most celebrated and influential opera singers of the 20th century. Renowned for her dramatic intensity, extraordinary vocal range, and unparalleled artistry, Callas became an enduring symbol of operatic excellence and tragic beauty.
Her rise to international fame began in the late 1940s after she moved to Italy. With her exceptional vocal ability and interpretative skill, Callas revived forgotten bel canto masterpieces by composers like Bellini, Donizetti, and Rossini, setting a new standard in operatic performance. Her portrayals of Norma, Tosca, and Violetta became definitive, drawing audiences into the depth of her characterizations and the electrifying energy she brought to the stage.
Her personal life further fueled the mystique surrounding her. In 1949, she married Giovanni Battista Meneghini, who became her manager and championed her career. However, their marriage ended in 1959, largely due to her highly publicized affair with Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.
Join us as we delve into the extraordinary life, towering triumphs, and sensational scandals of Maria Callas. Her voice, a once-in-a-lifetime gift, mesmerized audiences across the globe, while her tumultuous life story became the stuff of legend. From the heights of operatic glory to the depths of heartbreak and controversy, Maria Callas was more than a singer-she was an icon who lived as dramatically as the roles she brought to life.

Is a Magnificent Film.
The style, the grace, the voice. The world wasn't ready for you, but you shined anyway Maria Callas.
She was such a glorious woman with amazing talent. She was treated so badly by so many people and the media was appalling to her. Viva Maria.
Thank you for leaving a comment! And I agree, so many people treated her badly. I got so angry while reading about her relationship with her mother 😡.
Just like Britany Spears. Lol
Rudolf Bing at the Met Opera treated Callas exceptionally badly.
@lpc61 EXACTLY!!! The very SAME people did it to BOTH of them!!! they've been destroying humanity for 1000s of years! they own awl duh bangkz and awl of heellee-peedooo-wud and all the media everywhere all over our world now!

I remember listening, as a child, to records of Maria Callas at my favourite Aunt’s house; it was a stark contrast to the constant country music that my father played. Callas & Caruso were the beginning of my lifelong love of opera🩵
I thoroughly enjoyed this thank you so much, There will never be another Callas.
I couldn’t agree more! ❤️ And Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video 🤗
The thing that struck me about this documentary was that it was done mostly in pictures, yet it was still compelling. The thing that struck me about Maria Callas' life in biography was that her struggle was a universal one. The common man or women couldn't relate to the fame, but could relate to the sense of loss. Losing human connections, betrayal, your own identity changing, becoming weaker in your body than you were before, trying to find a sense of meaning, trying to develop connections and projects that are fulfilling, being resilient through failures, embarassments, and adversity, such is the struggle of mankind's very existence. She was a human being, and in that sense, we should respect her struggles and what she went through, as much as being fans of her art.
Wow, that is a beautiful perspective! Thank you so much for sharing! 🤗❤️
@@StoriesThroughTime Thank you for making the film!
Thank you for sharing Ms Callas' story . I learned so much about this iconic woman and her glorious talent. "Bravo Maria!!!"

On New Year’s Eve, I stumbled onto the Netflix film about La Callas and unexpectedly found myself totally captivated. Maria Callas’ story, and Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of her was wonderful. And the article today on UA-cam made her an even more sympathetic, vulnerable yet brave person, driven by her artistry and passion.
Thank you so much for leaving such a thoughtful comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the film and the video 🥰❤️
Turned on that Angelina Jolie movie and was bored within the first 20 mins. I wasn't familiar with Maria Callas' story so I decided to learn about her life and possibly revisit the movie. This bio is well done. Brava! What an extraordinary life she lead as an artist.
Thank You so much for leaving a comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video 🤗❤️. And I was also bored by the Angelina Movie 😔. Lol what a bummer! I was excited for weeks. But I'm going to try and rewatch over the weekend 🤗.
The movie is not good in my opinion. This video really shows Maria Callas
Same
Whyyyy Angelina! Out of all the wonderful actresses. Maria needs someone who will truly give her story the grace it deserves.
Try to stick with the movie, the pacing is so much slower than we’re used to but its true to the subject and very deep. Tears by the end.
One and only Maria Calas. It’s amazing how strong she was and how fragile she became how strong her love was and how that love destroyed her. At the end… she was a human. My pro for you Maria. Rest in peace. We will love you forever ❤️🩹🙏👏
I am an enormous fan of of both Maria, the woman, and La Callas, the glorious devine talent. This was very well done! Thank you so very much! I think I can speak for most of Maria's fans when I say thank you, we appreciate your efforts greatly! 🎬🎭🎼🎶
I am so incredibly honored and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video ❤️ 🤗
That was extraordinarily moving.Thank you.
Thank you so much for leaving a comment🥹 I’m so glad you enjoyed the video 🤗 ❤️
I think she is too hard on herself. She achieved so much, endured so much, she came out strong and successful as a great artist. But nothing last forever, like the lives of her life..bravo Maria, rest in peace, your art will live on.milliins are watching you here on UA-cam.❤
Very Beautifully said 🥹 ❤️. Thank you for leaving a comment 🤗
I enjoyed this great tribute to Mari Callas. She was a beautiful woman with an amazing voice and talented.
I am going to watch the movie with Angelina Jolie.
Thank you for Maria Callas's life.

She really did die of heartbreak, but her life and voice were spectacular and haunting. I have many CDs of her singing her most iconic roles and arias. Her voice is stunning and so moving. I marvel at the power and quality of her magnificent gift. I listen to her every day. I have seen the movie Maria, Jolie does a spectacular role. She should win the Oscar award for best actress.
Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I knew Angelina would be great 😍 I’m so excited to see it !

She was a career woman. The demands of performance delayed her wanting motherhood. Her music is her legacy. Bravo Maria🎉
THIS is the one and only true diva.
I listened to this recordings of her when I was a teen. Opera was loved in my home. She was the “Voice” of mezzo Sopranos.
A beautiful woman with a beautiful beautiful voice ❤❤❤.
She lives as a legend. Great tribute to an incredible artist. Thank you.

@@StoriesThroughTime One and only one only Maria Callas, a legend in her profession. 👏👏😇❤❤❤
I so disagree. That's not a portrayal at all of Maria Callas! Just look at where "Jolie's" chin is and expression in the photo compared to Callas. Forensic psychiatry will tell you it's embarrassing. She could never be "Maria Callas"! Gross
Beautifully narrated …. Very good documentry
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed 🤗 ❤️
Very interesting life and yes I will love to see the movie and Angelina Jolie will be I'm sure wonderful to play Maria C , Angelina Jolie beautiful and a good actress ❤ her

A haunting story, a life richly lived.
Maria, primadonna assoluta of the 20th century. She sang with such passion, that she often sacrificed beauty for emotion and expression. When i listen to her, i can't hold back my tears.
Thank you for this video presentation. It was nicely done 😊
Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video ❤️ 🤗
Luchino Visconti was responsible for Maria’s glamorous makeover. I think she even moved in with him for a while, losing weight and following Visconti’s advice on making the most of her looks and her voice and her acting.
A Greek tragedy indeed. She possessed an eternal voice that will never die.
I didn't know this about her. I can't stand to hear that a woman was being mistreated like this by a man, especially a woman as special as she was. Aristotle Onassis sure did do her wrong. Thank you for sharing her story with us. I guess God was calling some of his children that he blessed with beautiful voices home that year, bc she passed away a month after Elvis Presley passed away. I can't wait to see the movie. Hopefully, they hold true to her real life story. RIP Maria Callas. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Very Beautifully said Bonnie 🥲. Thank you for it leaving a comment and I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️ 🤗
Didn't know Jolie was doing a movie based on Callas life . Cant wait till its out !
A beautiful woman with an amazing voice. ❤❤❤
Stunning Voice. Bravo Maria. !
Thank you for this excellent documentary on La Divina. She was an extraordinary performer, a beautiful and intelligent woman, who lived, loved and sang with such passion, whose light dazzled the world of Opera and left us wanting more of her sparkling brilliance. One documentary about her was not enough, so I found "Maria by Callas" on Netflix, which offers an intimate look at her life through previously unseen footage, letters, memoirs, performances and tv interviews, exploring her humble beginnings to becoming a glamorous international star and the tragedies and triumphs she experienced. Gone too soon at only 53, her legend lives on in the hearts of all who loved her and her remarkable talent.
Thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video and I love how much passion you have for Maria. I also loved "Maria by Callas"!
Gracias. Saludos cordiales

I cannot believe she was only 53 when she died. What a difficult, emotional life she must have led, what an incredible voice.
So tragic how the selfishness of a conceited man literally snuffed out her light and purpose. That wasn’t true love, and he preyed on her vulnerability to acquire her like an object. Smh…God bless you Ms Maria Callas, rest in peace 🕊️💐✨

I had to watch this doc, after watching Maria with Jolie. Thank you so much for an honest view of her life... Maria is unwatchable.
But you watched. Maria the movie is NOT a biopic of her life it is giving u a depiction of how she spent her last week alive.
Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video 🤗❤️.
I can't wait to see 'Maria' with Angelina Jolie. I worked out listening to you here. Thank you for your thorough life story highlights. I learned a lot and your voice was so soothing as I did my hour work-out...
Thank you so much! Im so excited to watch Maria too. I think Angelina is going to be great! 😊 And I’m so glad you enjoyed the video ❤️

What a wonderful video bio you have made! So many YT video bios are crude mismatches of previously well known facts rendered sterile by the narrator. Not only did you present an interesting accurate history of Maria Callas but it was accompanied by wonderfully rare photographs. Bravo! As to Maria Callas herself, I can never understand her infatuation with Onassis, a short, fat, egoist who had no artistic talent, did not appreciate or value Maria's brilliance, artistry and rare gift. His death was not missed. But the world lost a unique jewel when she died. Thank you.
Thank You so much for your beautiful comment 🥹 I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! And I agree about Onassis 🤮. I’ve always side eyed their whole relationship on account of the fact that they were both married, but i never knew how HORRIBLY he treated her until I started researching for the video. Being incredibly rich was really the only obviously attractive thing about him, but maybe she saw something we don’t 🫣 lol.
Perhaps he was yellous of her her magnificent talent, as it truely was great.
Happy birthday Maria🎉
Her husband was no looker either
Thank you so much for this. I wanted to know so much more about her life after watching the movie which left me so confused.
Lorraine films only take a certain point in a persons life and takes an audience on an emotional journey with them. It wasn’t a biopic. Which I’m glad
Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video ❤️ 🤗.
Exceptional lady of class & talent. She like many women before her gave her heart to a man they use it abuse it ; the cruelty of abortion.
What woman in the long run deal with such heartache.
Bless her soul .. I identified so much with this woman’s pain.
I’m hoping in heaven I shall hear her sing again.
God bless you Maria x

She was Beautiful 🤩 taken way too soon ❤❤❤
Such a beautiful eyes and her class! a real diva! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💖
I have developed a deep appreciation for Maria Callas as an opera singer. When I first heard her, it felt like I had discovered a hidden gem. I was not aware of her tragic history, but it seems to be a common theme among great artists. I recently watched the film about her starring Angelina Jolie, who is a talented actress, but I felt that the movie did not fully capture Callas's story. Your video, on the other hand, provided much more information and insight. You should have been called in to help write the script for the movie. Lol. Overall, thank you for putting together such a well-done video. I now have an even greater appreciation for Maria Callas. And you received a new subscriber. 🌹
I totally agree about the Movie! I thought it was disappointing and seemed like it was just scratching the surface. And Thank you so much for watching and subscribing, and leaving a nice comment! 🤗❤️

She was unique! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A fool in love. A tragic life.
A talented and beautiful woman.
What a fascinating story. What an amazing woman. What an inspiring life. People should not bring children into this world if they don't love them and want them. Her mother's reason for wanting another boy like the one she lost wa snot good enough. It led Maria to a life of personal unhappiness.
Thank you. Watching and Listening from Alaska. 🕊

Holey smokes! What a life! ...she was so beautiful. And, damn the public ate her up, didnt they, whether she did well or badly, they were still so critical. :(( Thank you for this video. 🙏
Thank You so much for leaving a comment! And i had no idea how badly she’d been treated by the media! The judgment she’d received for her vocal decline seemed especially cruel 😔
brava , this woman, singer persevered long enough for this singer to b encouraged,
La Divina lives, in spite of the hearbreaking truth, her tale of loneliness. triumphs & disappointments are an inspiration. ❤
Angelina jolie singing will be so exciting....she as Maria was brilliant....both strong woman whom seem to have very similar lives....xoxo bravo to both woman.
I envy all eyes and ears who have seen Calis irl

A very balanced and complete documentary of an artist well deserving documentaries on her art and life. Referring to the dramatic presence on stage and voice of Maria is a ........ dramatic understatement. Very well done! Thank you.

Beautiful artist R.I.P.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
thank you for giving us your voice rest in peace
I do not cry on tragedy, I cope with it - Maria Callas, interview :)
What a stunning beautiful woman ❤ wish Angelina jolie all the best with the role.
I thought Angelina Jolie did a really great job! She definitely captures her essence. 😊
This is very helpful; documentaries are so much better than movies.
Thank you so much! 🙏❤️ I’m so glad you enjoyed!
Beautiful
BEAUTIFUL
Some of the world's greatest artists have had intense lives. I am reminded of Luciano Pavarotti, another operatic great. There can be the best fullest expressions by tormented creative people. I am lucky I was brought up in a musical family. Both parents played viola in the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. They opened new worlds for me that I am still exploring and learning from.
Bravissima - Maria sempre la Divina
Bravissima is much more praise than "very good". Stupid translation.
Bravo!!!!❤️
Maria Callas was a magnificent, complex woman who commanded adulation and admiration without ever having to demand such. The memory of her voice remains a powerful testimony to the depth of her artistic skills. Her vulnerability killed her, that and her emotional dependency on an incredibly selfish, self satisfied, egotistical, demanding man.
DIVA...DIVINA...Maria Callas One n Only ♾️
Wonderful ❤
Thank you so much for leaving a comment! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video ❤️ 🤗
Wonderful a true lady thank you ❤
She is fantastic. Her legend is enhand by the reality of her life...... it haa elements of a Greek tragedy :
Great Success, Talent, Heartbreak, Anger, Love, Anguish, Deternination
her temperment,
Angelina did her research to understand the character she was going to potray in the movie. I enjoyed the movie
I have a recommendation for a subject -- Paula Yates. Her life was incredibly interesting and sad but barely anyone (in the US at least) knows much about her.
Love all your work, by the way 😊
Thank you so much for leaving a comment and thank you for the recommendation ❤️
Excellent movie with Angelina Jolie. She will win a 2nd Oscar. Those of you how absolutely hate Jolie because of Pitt or Talentless Aniston, should put your jealousy, hatred, childish petty nonsense aside and be grown ass adults. Those involved can go thru their professional life without bashing each other in their jobs and life why do you.??? “It’s always someone, close to them,” ..They don’t care?.. Jolie is amazing, from Lara Croft, to Mr and Mrs smith, to Gia, to the bone list, to the wanted, to Maria. I was crying by the end..The music is absolutely magnificent. The story beyond sad…the love for a man who never deserved her and stopped her from ever singing again. Take a chance on it, you have to pay attention, it’s from the perspective of a very sick person of the mind.
I agree! The very women hating Angelina for "stealing" Brad Pitt are the same ones who would love to have done it themselves if they could!
I don't think this is about hating Jolie, it's about a Bad script, that doesn't depict the real Callas This movie is not a tributo to Callas.
My...she was young when she passed
Pure unadulterated LOVE ISSUED, from.Marias, tormented SOUL ,rest in peace Eye love you MARIA ,!@#
Aristotle was a fool to let her go 😢
He regretted it. He kept going g to Paris, every time he was upset with Jackie
She died shortly after him.

If only her child with Onassis was not terminated, her life would have turned out differently I guess. She wanted to have a family, a kind of relationship opposite to what she had, yet because of her love for Onassis who eventually betrayed her and married Jacky/Jackie, it clearly added to her misery.. Her voice and versions of arias are my references, truly unparalleled..
...imagine just skipping 18 months for breath-pause and suffering flack and criticism for not being a money robot for all. Brutal. Criticism from those who can't even sing. - How strange.
she was a combination of K. Hepburn's talent, Hayward's magnetism and Monroe's tragedy, a born of a haunted childhood and a childless, difficult child, a typical version of what has been called the monomyth, the 'orphan' or outcast who travels worlds, fights decisive battles, meets glorious success but can never transcend fate. But although she died so very young at least she won over death
I did not see the film of Maria Callas until now yet the trailer with A.Jolie seems to show an arrogant ( Jolie) woman instead of a proud woman. Unfortunately Jolies singing is an insult to La Divina! What a pity!
She is my father’s favorite performer!!! I like her too!??
