    Gran turismo should be adding things like this to the game, apart of the book thingy, you can have another cafe where they have books and they get you to go out and try cars with spring/tires/areo issues and then teach/demonstrate by allowing you to experiencing what the pros and cons are of these situations, they could still add this to the game as a big add-on in the future.
    Anyways, we have you guys on UA-cam picking up the slack for them I guess. Thank you, super great informative video, can't wait for more of them.

      Yes....i mean the apex magazine helps a bit with the fundamentals of certain aspects of the car but it's not in detail where i can use that information to my benefit.

      Yea because the game just gives you static information for each aspect.
      BUT, sometimes these pieces of information are intertwine, and need to be looked at as a whole. It's a lot of information on above the apex.
      The game could make it fun and enjoyable learning these aspects of racing in the game like I said.

      Indeed, it has to be scripted to allow fast and quick access to track. However, don’t you think that learning the information the old fashioned way makes the process more valuable? Knowledge and performance gap kinda thing.

    • @l337g0g0
      @l337g0g0 2 роки тому +2

      @@oriangalore
      The old fashion knowledge is there in the game and any where else you want to find it.
      The point I'm making is have it in the game ALSO as a fun ADDITION to the game/learning process.
      I remember learning about racing from this first game, it was HUGE to me everything I learned and carry it with me.
      They should repeat this for the new people just learning, and a refresher for older people who want to get back into it.
      So it's not that it's a better way to learn, it's a GREAT ADDITION to learning, fun and memories created.
      And lots of people learn better HANDS-ON, like learning as you drive in the game ETC.

    I've been looking for good videos explaining suspension tuning (on real world cars) and so far none of them have done as good a job as yours. Even though it's a sim, the principles are still identical and you did a fantastic job with this video! I'll be going through your other videos as well.

    Thank You so much for really breaking this all down. Really understanding both comprehensive and rebound of the Damper is not only extremely helpful and interesting in the game but also real life.
    I has a set of Fortune Auto 510's for my STI. I wanted to track it but also be able to drive it to the track. I had a vague understanding on how they act. 3-4 clicks from the softest for street the more clicks for mountain runs and 8-10 on track days. We never really hit any rumble strips so I can run them pretty stiff on the track. Anyway thanks again, you really opened my eyes and gave me a new understanding for suspension. I only have a single adjustment nob, and really don't like messing with the springs but I'm going to try a little softer for track and see how it goes. ✌️

    I found when playing forza Motorsport, the easiest way to correct over/under steer was to change the caster angle, It put me on the backfoot when I found that the setting wasn’t in GT7. So this video was most helpful to help trouble shoot steering issues. I hope in part 2 you unpack camber and roll bar stiffness as some people have lots of camber and soft roll bars or stiff roll bars and less camber and I was wondering what the pros and cons are. Thanks

  • @tomn2765
    @tomn2765 2 місяці тому +1

    Also a good reminder, I was struggling with tuning my '89 m3 and was having rubbing and stiffness issues that I couldn't fully trouble-shoot around watkins glen. Changing back to the stock suspension for that event wasnt a deal-breaker and made the car so much nicer to drive. It allowed for more PP wiggle room to increase power too. Reverting to stock for a single race, or car that you're struggling to tune that you wont be maining, isnt the end of the world and now that m3 is my favourite 600pp go-to

    i spent several *hours* (lol) tonight playing with tuning, starting with whatever the game gives as baseline w/ the fully adjustable suspension. i found that pretty much every car (road car, not gr.1/2/3/4) i've tested has a default tune with the ride height and/or the natural frequencies so low that the front squats enough under braking to bottom out the suspension, and simply getting the right balance between ride height and NF alone can vastly improve how the car handles. many of the cars i've tested so far required some pretty hefty increases to ride height and NF to get close to where they probably should be.

    I have a suggestion for a series you could do. Taking cars that have particularly bad handling characteristics and doing your magic to tame them. Examples that standout for me would be the Ford Mustang GT '15 and the Porsche 911 one of the road cars, also their is an NSX model that is like a petulant child. Would love to see that. Your tuning guides and explanation are awesome! I had absolutly no idea how to win some curcuit events like the touring car 700 events. My best attempt in Brands Hatch with the Mustang GT4 was finishing 3rd about 8sec behind the leader. But after watching your guide and adujsting the suspension accordingly I suddenly was able to win with a lead of 8sec. That is 16sec faster! And I haven´t touched camber, toe and roll bars yet. Looking foreward for more tuning guides!

    This is all really helpful. I appreciate the science, but the "showing us" is what I find most helpful. It gives me a good idea of what changes to make instead of randomly just throwing numbers around. Thank you.
    Also, if possible, is there a theory on where to start when tuning? Start with the transmission and gearing first? Or the suspension? Or the differential? I know if you adjust one it affects others. Just a good idea of do this, get that right, then work on these, kind of insight.
    ALL the help is really and truly appreciated. Sincerely!

    • @Harmonic14
      @Harmonic14  2 роки тому +7

      It's hard to say where to start unless you can identify exactly where the problem is, and that just comes with experimenting. Normally I'll just drive a car with the stock setup and make changes as I see fit, and once I identify things that work on a lot of cars, I use those as a new starting point.
      Recognizing how the car feels with each change is something that comes with time and practice. The easiest way to see differences is making big changes. When there's no telemetry to use, sometimes that's your only option!

    • @Nilvils85
      @Nilvils85 2 роки тому +7

      I'm not an expert, but I would start with the transmission as you want good gears, and modifying them can change the car behavior. Then adapt the suspension and differential to the car handling with the new gears. I guess that's the best way

    • @nodammit
      @nodammit 2 роки тому +2

      As far as where to start tuning (assuming you can only change one or two things), I recommend reducing weight first. Lower weight will benefit acceleration, braking, and cornering.
      The next would be tires, as they will benefit all three as well.
      I've won many races using considerably less power than the other cars by simply reducing weight and upgrading tires. This can be very helpful in races with limited PP.

    Thanks for making this video. I'm always left unsure how the dampers impact the car's handling as the in-game explanation isn't detailed enough for me. On a sidenote, video tuning guides like this remind me of the Gran Turismo 5 days where someone did pretty much the same thing. I think the person who did it was oinkoink or something like that. Anyway, I'll definitely wait for the next part as I'm still learning how to tweak the suspension settings.

    Thank you for a good in depth tutorial on suspension tuning in GT7.
    One question though about damper adjustment for under- and oversteer when braking.
    I might be misunderstanding your explanation. But I find that adjusting the rear rebound works the opposite of what I interpreted from the video.
    E.g. your car is understeering during braking. Because of the weight transfer towards the front. Stiffening the rebound on the rear will slow the extension of the rear springs. Then the rear tires have less friction. Making the rear slip a little bit and turning easier.

    You have the best tuning videos!. I've improved my tuning greatly from these videos.
    One thing I can never get right is the order I tune my cars. I usually start by putting all the upgrades I want on. Then I'll start with ride height. Move to lsd...go to suspension and start messing around with cambers etc. Then I'll do downforce then last gearing. My problem is I'm allways going back because I'm never satisfied, and it makes my tuning very frustrating. It seems I am allways going back to ride height and needing to add more power, I seem to allways get my cars hadling better at a higher ride height. Especially braking performance...it's tough tuning.
    Do you have any advice for me to perfect my craft? What order do you tune your cars in... I would love to see you do a full breakdown on tuning a car from 100% stock to raceday. I'm wondering what I can do to prevent me from allways going back and changing my tunes.
    Love the videos man, keep up the great work

    Really love your videos your explanations are so in depth and on point how I like to learn definitely the most helpful video I've found can't wait for the next ones u do on tuning....
    One thing though I'm kind of slow at math so I'm not sure what kind of math you were showing I know it might be much to ask but could you make a dummies version of this??? I really really like what your doing here just a bit lost when it came to the math lol... guess I could always use a calculator but I'm not even sure how to figure it out lol. Sorry not trying to negative or anything just trying to understand so I can actually tune my cars to my liking lol

      The math isn't important for tuning. The point of the math was to show that natural frequency takes the weight and spring rates of your car into account, so you don't have to worry about figuring out a bunch of different numbers - the number system is the same for every car.
