Great footage. Lots of TV shots got destroyed. Glad this was saved & even gladder that you uploaded it. Thanks! Yes, the Cadets (recorded this song as the 'Jacks") had the famous version . The Jayhawks did the original version. Like many up-and-coming-but-never-got-there bands, their cover was quickly covered by the Cadets. Marketing muscle took over from there. Karl Perkins knows how this goes. Don't forget the writers. Stranded in the Jungle was written by Ernestine Smith and James Johnson.
probably one of the less popular Dolls tunes- but I love it! At the Burlington VT show in June 2009 DavidJo asked for any requests and I hollered for this and everyone around me looked at me like I had 2 freakin heads... They did an awesome acoustic version of this during their May 2009 tour of South America- on the radio- DavidJo forgot a few lyrics, but, what the hell..
I have all there Albums just putting my 400 odd LP.'S on a turntable and putting them on the comp. then disc so i can hear them all over again love this band ..
Right you are, The Jayhawks had the original, and in '56 (not '58). "Stranded In The Jungle" The Cadets July 28, 1956 #2 "Stranded In The Jungle" The Jayhawks July 28, 1956 #18 "Stranded In The Jungle" The Gadabouts August 4, 1956 #39
@bigal838 I think all of them had "invented" it. They had a very different style, but the people says that they were glams for his clothes style and make up. But if you look to Bolan, Bowie and the new york dolls, they are very different.
@bigal838 Well, New York Dolls (& Lou Reed) in New York, it was just the fashion of the New York underground and all. Bowie was influenced by Marc Bolan, but was already dressing strange (red hair in Space Oddity video, Man Who Sold The World cover, big hats in the Warhol meeting). But when Bolan broke trough with White Swan with all those glitters and all, Bowie must have thought ''Let's go all the way'' and then invented Ziggy.
@wipers86 That is Steve’s Les Paul custom. But McLaren never stole it. Sylvain gave it to McLaren to take to England, and he said that he would come out a little bit after...but he never did. So he gave it to Steve.
o gomes é um cara muito loco, adoro arroz docê, rir me fa muito feliz... diretas já e viva os andromedas........ paz a todos os fanaticos por pão........
@giggie LOL yep meanwhile back in 2010 we have squat for good music that is on the radio...oh I'm sorry the jonas brother LOL yeah OK maybe on planet boring.
@alk3tom And the REAL problem is when you are at a show, The crowd turns into a fucking Karaoke ship from hell. It's impossible to see and hear a band today.
I heard the album version and if they had released a version without the screeching background singers, it would have been a big hit. I can't make it more than than 30 seconds of the album version.
They're musical influence is outrageously over rated. In the image and attitude department, they're in the upper echelon. But lets not get carried away. They were bold and confident coming out on stage in a drag. By audacity alone they seemed to have been persuasive. But if they didn't look the way they looked they would not be remembered for their songs alone. Thats a fact.
If you listened to the New York Dolls , then you know what real rock is. So unique one of a kind
Brilliant combination of classic rock, punk and their own twisted sensibilities.
You just got to love this. This was mid 70’s.. incredibly original.
Jesse Rozycki Actually a remake-originally made by Doo woo group The Cadets!
@@davidgrant3746 ...and the original is much better than this, which is out of tune.
brings back memories of being13 and just going nuts when they played philly. what are todays 3 year olds listening too? I love rock n roll!!
The Dolls were even called 'punk' back in 1974 news articles. Read the review of their Vancouver concerts. Term was already in use.
genius!,i bought both Dolls albums when they were released, timeless brilliance.Peter,London

& in the beginnin Johnny asked Syl, "how many strings does a guitar have?"
I think that Johnny was not much better than syl... but he died young
Lmao!!
My buds thought I was nuts but, I still love this band!

Don Kirshners rock concert...never missed it!!!
Loved it then. Love it now!! Listen to the studio version. It has the best backing vocals ever!!

+Laurie Aylmore Well, feel free to share them with us!
Thanks for unearthing this! OMG DON KUSHNAH introducing the Dolls!
Thank God for Don Kirshner for broadcasting these bands.
He had the Ramones on in ‘77 and their set (of course) phenomenal.
Right you are, The Jayhawks had the original, and in '56 (not '58).

Legends!!! Both the dolls and don kirshner
I thought that was Nikki Sixx on the thumbnail! Glad these musicians paved the way for what came after!
Jesus this destroys
I can't believe I never knew that the NY Dolls covered this song til now.
@bigal838 I think all of them had "invented" it. They had a very different style, but the people says that they were glams for his clothes style and make up. But if you look to Bolan, Bowie and the new york dolls, they are very different.
I love this life. I also love that can remember the words .lol
Of this oldies but goodies. I do not think the people next door like it though.
@bigal838 Bowie, but you know, I saw them in 1974 (I was 14). They were a little more human than Bowie!
rest in peace sylvain sylvain
Holy cow -just by rocking up the riff, they accidentally covered "Baby Boomerang"!
Way ahead of their time.

Ok, SO THIS IS A DEFINITE WHO'S LISTENING IN MAY 2020?? this band is just too kool to not have comments newer than 8 years
RIP Arthur the Killer Kane.....
He was first with the platformed boots. Then Ace Frehley from Kiss adopts the idea.
Toute ma jeunesse j’adore
Noddy Holder that is, or Dave Hill on guitar...
@ThePENON how TF can they not be in the hall? its repulsive that they have been over looked for so long.
@wipers86 That is Steve’s Les Paul custom. But McLaren never stole it. Sylvain gave it to McLaren to take to England, and he said that he would come out a little bit after...but he never did. So he gave it to Steve.
@wilbar2922 not true, it was originally by The Jay Hawks. The Cadets covered it (like they did all the time).
god they were good.
@poolpig yeah,you're right !! i'm trying mate !!
how can be possible that someone is still convinced that punk rock was born in england?
PUNK was born in NYC underground bands
T C exactly, Iggy The Velvet Underground MC5 The Dolls
Cross between sweet and the stones
@@b.3066 In my opinion punk was born in CBGB
Steve Jones tried to play like Johnny Thunders and that's why everyone think that NYD were punk 😅
o gomes é um cara muito loco, adoro arroz docê, rir me fa muito feliz... diretas já e viva os andromedas........ paz a todos os fanaticos por pão........
cool vid, thanks for adding! anyone know when this aired? btw, the original version of this song was performed by the cadets, 1958.
Meanwhile back in lousy 2011 Aerosmith is bringing their "one of a kind live show" to Latin America and Japan oh fuckin' yaaaay!
what a genius version
Answer: Talented
Go David Johansen and The New York Dolls !
This owns.
What happened to the days when we could just goof on each other? Guess it was lost in the 70's.
Nolan shines on this song
I was born in the late 90's and I gotta say, I'm sorry for what my generation did to music!
thanks jett
@Ronniewants2die Are you Steven Tyler commenting under a pseudonym?
The singer looks like Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange .

Ha.... I remember hearing this once back in the 70s.... not sure they did anything else. was and still not into top40 or big hair bands....
I can easily imagine myself performing some striptease under this music in front of my baby ;-FFFF
Rock and rolll
🌺
this 2010's shit isn't anywhere near target, I say we pick up our guitars and make it right again.
😍
good for you?
I heard the album version and if they had released a version without the screeching background singers, it would have been a big hit. I can't make it more than than 30 seconds of the album version.
