Fauna holding the warp core under the light of a red giant while wondering what it does has the same energy as someone holding the pin of a grenade wondering what the little piece of metal did for the heavy metal ball at their feet.
Her figuring out she unplugged ATP literally second before the sun exploded her is too good. Overall so much gaming done in this episode. And ending it on the personal "I hate you" directed towards WHS just makes it even better lmao

So the death you've been spoilering this whole time is one occasion where she was far enough away from the supernova that the energy from the supernova went into the Ash Twin Project, and it triggered *before* she died. Thus, the Ash Twin Project sent her memories back in time at that point, and since the player's perspective *is the memories*, we lost "contact" with the Fauna from that loop at that point in time. Presumably, that Fauna still died from the supernova mere moments later, but it was after the activation of the ATP, so we couldn't see it.
@@MirrormnImagine the horror of actually being the person that lives in that specific loop instead of being sent prevous memories. Waiting patiently for the flash back while saying "any moment now", and it never happening.
It's a bit disappointing that she got a true death before figuring everything out and going on a vessel run. I feel like knowing you will just be able to reload if you fail lessens the impact of you going on your first run, understanding exactly what you are doing and not knowing what would happen if you fail.
Fun fact, in the initial release, before any patches/update to the game, dying with the warp core unplugged would actually delete your entire save file, pffffff
There is something cosmically funny about dooming an entire solar system by accident and then less than 10 minutes later claiming that the solar system is in "your capable hands"
I understand the decision to give the player a save they can reload from, but I kinda feel like your punishment for getting a true death is that your ship logs **from that loop** shouldn't be saved.
@kurowo A deleted save in this game is fairly minor though. The only real progress that's saved is grabbing the launch codes right at the start and the meditation button. Everything else is just knowledge.
47:14 "don't sniff me" also, the recent episode added to the playlist is probably white hole station cause after this episode, she really has no reason to ever go there now and she probably recorded it cause future fauna saw chat.

A rollercoaster of an episode, and another double breakthrough! With the fact it still illudes her I'm expecting the final episode to be her looking for the WHS for 40 minutes before finishing things up in one last loop.
Man, the wall in the vault where everything comes together is so satisfying. The way this game tells it's story is just fantastic. Seems my initial theory about the ending might be wrong (though also kind of right, because I did think the whole loop being caused by the sun's natural death). Very proud of you past Fauna! Crazy how you saved so much juicy stuff for the very end, but made this episode absolutely amazing! Looking forward to the last two
One of two things will happen with WHS: 1. Fauna beats the game having never gone there. 2. Fauna spends a couple of loops getting there, only to discover she already knows everything that it could have taught her. She doubles down on how stinky WHS is.
Thanks for the ep today Fauna! You made so much progress in this one! Genuinely a great job! Now if only that pesky White Hole Station weren't a question mark when it's so clearly destroyed, not to mention that uninteresting shuttle with nothing inside!

The WHS started as a simple joke about past Fauna being blind, now it remains as one as the final Questionmark-Location in her log. Will she explore this lonely shuttle at the other side of the solar system, or will we never experience it? Only time can tell.

Fauna: "White hole station must be some hidden end game area you need to take a special warp to!"
