I personally absolutely love the poleaxe, you can get around people's blocks so easy with it, and I find it to be way more intuitive than the Messer. It's got good range, all right damage, and people don't really fight against poleaxes that much so they don't really know how to counter you that well. It's my main weapon for a very good reason.
I can't explain why the I love the poleaxe other than the stabs just feel amazing. People just don't counter stabs as consistently, and the stabs bring fantastic value to team fights with the health pool of the Knight. This coupled with the recent buffs to the damage and the stamina buff... I'm salivating
@@rkit6707 I always either do stab into alt stab faint OR overhead into stab, and then my most common thing is an overhead faint into a dragged heavy overhead that shit never gets countered and if you see them attacking you can just accel it into them almost instantly or you can look up more to drag it even more if they are still blocking
It’s always been great for me. It was the quintessential knightly weapon back in the day, and was more effective than most spears and especially swords on the real life battlefield. It was also highly modular, unlike a weapon like the halberd, which was forged from one metal piece. Most poleaxes were also the most sturdy weapons, sporting metal reinforcement on the shaft to make withstanding enemy attacks easier.
Pretty much my opinion also. I love it and its in the running for my favorite medieval melee weapon, with it competing for first place with the Polehammer, which is actually just called a Poleaxe in some languages anyway. I'll use it whether it's meta or not for that reason alone.
@@carroboi2981 Agree, medieval people didn't really bothered to "name them", so thats just "pollaxe" in most sources, regardless of the setup, it can have a hammer, axe, spike, beak, in any combination including a buttom spike, which is in rare cases a complete fuckin' spearhead kinda thing almost. Though that said it would be cooler imo if the "pollhammer" was just a skin to the pollaxe, since they are not different weapons and they are both knightly weapons.

Oh, and what a review, too! You went over every strength of the poleaxe: it's versatile mediocrity, it's impressive special and it's unique playstyle. I also think it would be nice if it did just a bit more damage, but, as it is, I consider it to be perfectly balanced. A solid choice for a weapon.
I learned the game with the Halberd so when it came to using the knight class (I was trying to level up each class at the same time sort of thing) the poleaxe was an instant hit for me I didn't actually realise the poleaxes stats were so shortcoming but now that I've seen this it makes much more sense as to why I was getting mollywhopped after I started using it EXPECIALLY with like you say.... The alt swings I believe you have done videos on a few weapons that you said has a longer reach with the alt attacks so I get bamboozled alot Regardless of whether I'm top of the scoreboard though the game is fun, I just wish it ran like it was meant to
In duels, other than the borderline unreadable special, the best feature of pole axe is it's MASSIVE counter window. A decent duelist can engage in minute-long battles with other high level players and out-stam them.
I was wondering why my range with the poleaxe felt so weirdly inconsistent, even within the same attacks. Thanks for clearing that up! Still love this thing to bits, its stabs and special attack are amazing and it just feels good.
i dont even know how many times in TO where i was in a team fight and i try to overhead counter a poleaxe special, its so fast and looks like an overhead and throws me off sometimes. Such a fun weapon tho
I tried battleaxe cus of your vids and I actually got really good with it and it’s my favorite and most comfortable weapon to use now. I think I’ll try out this pole axe thing in depth now O.o

hey zigg just got into chiv 2 cause of the game pass and love it and found your channel. Wanted to recommend a video idea where you rank each objective and go over how they're skewed to which ever side, how to best defend or attack it and how you'd make it better. During my time playing I've already seen the kinda objectives that are basically free and the other ones that stop the game like molasses.
This is my main weapon, but I struggle with it a bit. It makes me feel bad at the game. Once I try out a dropped sword, I realise I'm not actually that bad, and I find it a lot easier, but I want to use a pole axe as a knight.
I love the Poleaxe, everyone thinks longswords or a sword and shield or something are Knightly weapons, nah man Knights gon bash your brains in with an axe that is also a hammer.
I don’t know why but I always do decent when I use the pole axe. I’ve tried halberd and I suck, executioners axe I suck, war axe I suck, you get the idea. There’s just something about it that activates my “one with the game” mentality.
This is a stupid question, but do some weapons do stamina/health damage to your foe or do all weapons do stamina/health damage to your foe? At 6:28 Ziggy mentioned something about the warhammer and I could be reading into it the wrong way.
Weapons do stamina damage when someone blocks them, it's not the same for every weapon. The formula for this (that I discovered myself over a year ago) is 30% of the damage. If an attack does 100 damage, it does 30 stamina damage. Vanguard has 100 stamina, Knight and Footman have 80, Skirmisher has 70 and Archers have 50. Chop weapons like Axes get a 10% extra and Blunt weapons get 25% extra. Battleaxe special attack does 100 damage so it does 33 stamina damage. Polehammer special attack does 100 damage so it does 37.5 (which then could be rounding up or down, I dont know.) Not a stupid question at all.
@@Ziggylata I didn't realize there were so many numbers involved to explain as to why my weapon slaps me in the face when I yry to anti-gank sometimes haha. Thanks, man. Also, I can't find the answer on reddit or any other chat/community platform, but since I've used the Pole Axe I can't tell if its not doing its bonus shield damage or its just so little a bonus it doesn't actually matter statistically?
Poleaxe sits in that weird spot where it has bad stats compared to other weapons but it's just decent enough that a skilled player can use every bit of it to pull out a win against anyone. It's reach isn't as good as other polearms, the dmg isn't anything special compared to other chop weapons and the speed can't compete against faster weapons that gamble. That being said, sits in the weird dmg spot that will kill everyone in 2-4 hits no matter who it is, it's mediocre speed can be boosted into decent range with ripostes and counters on top of -10% stamina reduction and it's special has very long reach on top of being a 2HKO against anyone. I like to use this weapon when I'm on defense. On defense, you want to stall as much as possible until your team spawns in a wave to the objective. This weapon can consistently face anyone, is a polearm that suits team fights and encourages riposte/counter/specials as your tools to pull out a win which makes it a amazing compliment to officer so you can hold down a line and rally horn with your boys for a counter attack.
Pole axe legit has the trickiest animation if you figure it out. The combo stab is especially strong because it has no wind-up animation. You follow through with a slash or overhead and the poke legit comes outa nowhere
I mostly play Officer/Poleaxe/Mace on defence and Crusader/Messer/Morning star sometimes on offence. I pick up the messer from the ground whenever possible when I am playing officer. With the messer it's just so easy to quickly gank people with the heavy overhead drags while I use the stabs and special on the poleaxe to gank or swap to the mace to swarm the enemy when ganking. Frontlining in a pinch and staying behind offensive minded people when holding a line and protecting team mates is what the poleaxe excels at in my opinion. I prefer the officer with the poleaxe over Guardian/1h spear/mace playstyle. I have tried playing a bit of longsword and greatsword here and there as officer but I don't think they are as versatile when trying to play as a group support. I feel like you kinda need to pick Devastator to use the greatsword to it's full potential. The defensive anti-gank capability and overall versatility and good match-up spread as well as the chop damage bonus is what makes the poleaxe stand out for me. Stab/heavy stab/special is the bread and butter of this weapon, you don't have to commit to moving forward and being aggressive to be effective with the poleaxe, as long as you have at least one team mate close to you this weapon does not feel that much inferior to the messer and the heavy stab and special allow you to still finish people off quite quickly when the situation presents itself. The alt quick stab (try to use alt stab over regular stab whenever possible) allows you to do good damage and interrupt anyone charging at you when "anchoring" yourself in a position when lets say a 3vs3 is about to break out and you are at the front and most likely to be targeted by someone running at you with a heavy slash.
