I used to repair those units, they are very simple and work with most equipment. It basically just relays the current via a contactor and if fitted gas flow via a solenoid. The power source needs provide an open circuit voltage to power the unit and most do or can be made to. CC/CV may also be an issue if the power source can't select these modes.
Yes, still in Tulsa, and yes, the no-gas-flux-core I have calls for positive lead connected to the ground and negative to the gun. I think it depends on the specific wire, but you can ask the welding store to look it up or you can look it up online.
Cool. I love ours. Only thing I'm going to add is brass feet that are connected to the ground cable. It's a waste of time to mess with the ground cable when the box is almost always sitting on the steel.
Great review. Nice to see a video that's not from miller on these. There's not too many of them. I have the remote control version and there ain't one single video review on UA-cam about it. Those air couplers will leak eventually. They make couplers rated for welding gas that won't leak. The benard that it comes with is a better torch. Rated for higer Amps. Has a better desigbed tip and gas cup. I think the parts aren't too bad to fin online or from your local welding rep.
Check with Miller welding to be sure it will mate to your DC welder. I made the costly mistake of getting one w/ CO2 etc...After many problems Miller stated I should have called the manufacture 1st not the local salesman. Remember the saying " Some learn from the mistakes of others. Some have to pee on the electric fence themselves."
@submarineboat ...took one more delay to build Argonaut Jr. (not everyday you have 5 tons of lead laying around). Now we've sold the subs and are full time on the sailboat. I'll never be a Marine Biologist, but it will be fun to give some of them rides.
@porpoisefathom We both grew up in Brownsville Texas, near the Gulf of Mexico. I wanted to be a Marine Biologist but Computer Science paid better. Started building our 1st submarine with the intention of moving to FL with it, but we were visited by some guy who's name I can't remember who wanted to look at welding for a sailboat he wanted to launch from the Port of Tulsa. That idea grew on us and we built the house, shop and started collecting tools and materials in 2006....
That's a shame. I would have never considered that to be an issue. My DC power is a Lincoln Invertec 300 and all it does is supply the juice. It does have a Remote switch that tells the welder to simply keep the power on all the time. What DC power supply to you have that did not work?
What fitting did you use to connect a regular air hose….I like the air hose looked for a fitting for my suitcase welder but couldn’t find a fitting from gas treads to npt treads….any info would help…thank you
+Bobby Horn Yes it does. You have to put up wind breaks if it's more than 10 mph. Sometimes just your body or a small piece of flashing with some magnets will do. But if you plan to weld fence or something else that requires a lot of moving around then I think it would be best to weld Stick.
I think you’re just seeing the ground cable for the suitcase. It pulls a little power off to run the contactor and drive motor. There is another ground cable for the weld current.
are you guys still in Tulsa? I bought one of these 12vs welder and I need a little advise. I am running a gasless flux core gun. don't I have to reverse the leads from positive to negative? Let me know. thanks.

I got mine used from the local Ready-D-Arc outlet. www.red-d-arc.com/ They rent welders but you can always buy the equipment too. The more they have rented it, the cheaper it will be. And the torch is a 400 amp ProFax that is available from most of the online suppliers. Good Luck.
How does that dual shield wire do with the gas outside with the wind blowing do you have to shield it from the wind I'm lookin in to buying one for my service truck to run on my 325 miller.
The millermatic is a stand alone machine that's rated around 1/4 steel. I have one at work and you can push it to 3/8 but its a very slow weld. The suitcase 12vs This suitcase in this video needs a power source to run but would be able to weld circles around the millermatic 200. The suitcase 12vs is a industrial type unit. The millermatic 200 is more or less a nice portable stand alone welder but don't expect to do very heavy type of welding with it. The neat thing about the millermatic 200 though is its a multi process machine so you can do a few things with it. It also has this acu set where it recognises any power source you plug into weather that be 110 or 220. The millermatic 200 is also only rated for 200 amps while the suitcase 12vs and rc are rated towards 500 amps. The suitcase extreme vs and rc are essentially just feeders. Thays all they really do. Your power source ie engine drive, inverter, ect provides the feeder with its weld output.

We use the digital version at the shipyard. I love it! Smooth, easy to use, and less maintenance problems.

Yes, it needs a DC welder to power it. I have a Miller 350 XMT in a box at one corner of the pad.

Dual shield is generally used for indoor as is Mig....

Will that suitcase wrk on my Miller Bluestar 2E DC welder ?? Do I just hookup the positive side and gas an regulator
Yeah, any DC welding power supply and gas is all it needs.

Maybe. Mine is powered from a Miller xmt 350 inverter which is a "Multi-Process" power supply.
It should work. The VS is designed to work off of both cv and cc machines so it should work fine.
