"BMW beefed up the internals to handle the extra power"- does that mean they're actually using metal in the engine bay where there SHOULD be metal, or is it just slightly better grade plastic that will fail a little later down the road when compared to the other X3 M? I personally like my engines more reliable, and less... Lego like.
@@exquisiteart6478 clearly you don't know what you're talking about. Look into BMW V8 valve failures and you'll see BMW has been terrible with cost-cutting on their higher performance offerings in the last decade. Their electronic components are also seeing a MUCH higher fail rate than the industry standard.
@@JJPMustang also why are you bringing up the a completely different engine? It has nothing to do with the engine (S58) or car (X3M Competition) we're talking about here. Maybe yes it's a BMW, but we're not talking about those situations. Stay here
Jesus, my 2018 x3 30i is very quick and totally satisfying. So much so, I wonder why go to the expense of this beast? Oh well, I'm 70 so that might be the answer. Although, I will admit that most excursions into the realm of super performance most often lends the move to greatly give lesser models such as mine better tech that would not be possible without the push to achieve driving superiority in higher level models...
@japanwatchconnection Oh NO! This all about the magnificent rush of 0-45 for the most part. Sure, you can get on a freeway and let her rip, but you will pay with higher insurance rates cause you refuse to lighten up your lead foot. They'll get you, with out a doubt! Personally, I finally got SICK of signing traffic tickets after my rush to 60 mph.
There is always the option of the "standard" six cylinder which gives a fantastic performance boost (well under 5 seconds to 60) to the stock 4 cylinder.
BMW needed to beef up their internals! I wonder if cost-cutting in the planned obsolescence department will render these worthless as used offerings a few years from now?? It's a shame too, they look wonderful, have a lot of power, and of course are tuned for a very enjoyable driving experience!
I have seen so many reviews of this car where the testers do not read the car's guide to set up for proper launch control. If I just floor my X3M Competition while in normal drive mode, it does take a second or two for the Turbo to spool up. But NOT in launch control mode!! I have also seen tests where they DID set it up right and got 3.3 seconds or even better.
Martin Sbriglio in the US there are quite a few still sitting on the lots. Good deals to be had. 10-12% off before incentives in certain markets (northeast) I got an okay deal back in November. Deals now are plenty strong tho. Peeps in my area are getting them low to mid 700 a month and that’s with tax rolled in. If only I waited two more months
Driving a new car with like 10 speeds is just boring. When you drive it lightly the rpm's dont go above like 1500rpm and you never get to hear the engine wind out.
The 2022 LCI revision made a big difference on softening up the suspension in comfort mode. Also, the factory tires have a very stiff sidewall. Owners who have upgraded their tires to the Michelin Pilot 4S all season tires all say the ride is greatly improved. I've got a 2022 LCI X3M Comp and it's quite comfortable and smooth on the highway as well. I average 24~25mpg on the highway going 75~80mph so not sure where MotorWeek's low numbers are coming from.
Because a comment isn't a comment without juvenile name-calling of someone you don't even know. And, of course, getting gobs of horsepower out of an IC engine is such a marvel... how did I miss that?! Still an SUV and still way overpriced, but go ahead and keep drinking the Kool-Aid.
Rule 1, you lease BMWs, you never purchase one. Rule 2, You never buy a used BMW. I know too many people that made a mistake and bought them used and new. They fall apart and rarely make it to 100K without major problems.
91ft. 60-0 is AMAZING!!! But the pollution is... ridiculous & dangerous. Acceleration is... not competitive. The $61,000 Tesla Model Y has more space inside (68cu.ft.), world's best software in any car and 0-60 3.5sec, quarter mile in 12.04sec
I have one of these 2022 X3M Competitions and just finished a 3 year lease on a model 3 performance. While the 0-60 is a tad quicker in the tesla, the Dragy is reporting nearly identical 11.5~11.6 1/4 mile times on both cars on the same road, same density altitude, etc. The X3 is SOOO much more fun to drive though, the lane keep assist is better, it has a HUD, better seats, sunroof you can open and there just aren't many of them on the road. Tesla's are everywhere. They're not special cars. Lastly, just a piggy back tune on these things puts them into the high 10 sec 1/4 mile. I have zero regrets. The tesla was neat but the X3M does pretty much everything better IMO and I can just get in it and drive a little over 400 miles on a tank of gas.
That S58 engine decimates other SUVs!
the stelvio QV is just as quick
I never thought I'd think and SUV was badass; but this car is badass.
@03:15 John's at the top of his game with the joke about someone wanting to take this to a racetrack!
Great video, thank you motor week!! I really like the interior styling!!
This is an all around awesome car. Congrats BMW.
Did he say 177 as the top speed?
That is only flashed onto your car's computer if you opt for the $3K optional track driver's school. Otherwise it is "only" 155 mph.
@@jaycowan6664 a good mechanic can probably bypass the 155 mph limit
Great Video Review As Always
This is the motor that'll be in the next M3 M4.
Truth Keeper Films yes it is.... the new s58. Sick motor....I have an x3m and it’s ridiculous
This X3M is my FAV X3; just as the X5M is my FAV X5. Both are built in South Carolina.

no difference in anti-roll bars between the base M and competition M models

Beautiful smile if it's really you
Awesomeness
I'm not a big fan of BMW reliability. Nice job with the review MotorWeek.
new BMW are more reliable than their competition. look up JD power dependability review.
Jaw dropping numbers
Incredible performance and horsepower numbers for an SUV.
lol... John Davis says ; from take-off, the Beamer boggs down abit... ( Yet 0 to 60 is 4 Secs...OOOOKK )
Tesla Model Y is 0-60 in 3.5 sec and quarter mile in 12.04. No gearbox... no bogging down

500 hp in a BMW suv?!
Stage 1 mine has 640 😂.. Its fast
The BMW X5M suv came out in 2010 with 555hp
That's about what they make at the wheels. The engine itself is producing between 560 and 580 hp.
Quem veio para ver o carrão do Razuk?

@Get The Gringo This is F150 limited territory. Or even an XL 2.7 or 3.5 with a tune.
Big grills age poorly and so do chiseled out sides. BMW should never follow.
