I picked up the X-S20 just last week to start learning photography/videography and I have been loving it so much. No regret at all, can’t wait to bring it to my first trip to Japan next year. Until then, practice practice practice 😂
Thank you Thomas❤ I can't believe you came back to the X-S20. I've followed and looked at all small hybrids from all camera companies, and the X-S20 while not perfect, is the King of the Hill. The video capabilities also puts many FF to shame.
I adore this camera :D I have done X-S10 -> XT-4 -> X-T5 back to the X-S20. It is the best camera I have ever had, and can't put it down. That tells you everything you need to know :D
Ha! Thomas does some crazy stuff!! I love his storytelling too! That portrait of the woman at 4:02 is killer..... This is the camera I keep thinking about for when/if I need/want to replace my X-T3. I remember when the XS-10 came out. I held it and thought it felt really small. But, now that I've had the X-T3 for several years I'll have to give that body another try. Thanks for the info, have a rockin' weekend!
funny i jus did a shoot this morning with xs20 and i found your video appear in my recommendation. coming from xt3, this camera brings me more joy shooting with fujifilm. i realize i have no need for any retro dials nor design to make me feel more "different". I also have no issues with the afc eye af detection (aside the exposure bug they haven't fix) at all. I shot many high burst 20fps shots today and it nail every single shot so far. the smaller and lighter body makes me enjoying my shots even more and i have really must say i enjoying the grip design more than any other xt series.
I love this camera. I have a canon r6. But I find i use this so much more. It's just so small and has most features that top end cameras have. It just fits with daily use.
Enjoyed the video as a 1st time viewer. Retired Hobby photographer.I travelled in Europe with my XS20 & a 18-135 Fuji lens. I had no focus issues, as my shots were all stills during my walkabout in Southern France & Barcelona. Going to Southern Portugal in 2025 with it and my recently purchased Fuji 27 mm f2.8 R WR lens. The XT-4 will be left in my hotel as a back-up should I need it. Might even bring the 23 mm 1.4 LM WR R lens.
Nice one ☝️! Those Typoch 28mm photos look dreamy ✨📸🙌 And are you reviewing Viltrox’ 35mm 1.7? Am thinking of getting it, it the new Ttartisan 35mm mark II 🤔
I've had the X-S10 for about two years now, my first Fuji and first mirrorless camera, and I really love it. Coming from Nikon DSLR's, mirrorless has been a real game changer for me and my enjoyment of photography. But that said, the X-S20 really does improve on all the small things that aren't so great on the X-S10, even if they aren't currently deal beakers for me. I will probably pick up a used X-S20 in another year or two if I can find a deal, or maybe the X-S30 if that ever comes out haha
Honestly if you can get it on a good deal it's even better! It's going to be around for several more years. I don't know how the xs30 can improve unless it's just autofocus. I am happy with the specs inside this camera now.
I understand your frustration, and you should do it if you feel it's going to improve your quality of life . Fuji has a proven track record of being a company who does not provide timely firmware updates. It's actually making me lose trust in them.

I've been shooting on the XS20 for a little over a year and it's a great "jack of all trades camera". The biggest downside I see in it, is its lack of weather sealing. I tend to take my camera EVERYWHERE. It's been to Mexico twice, out in rain, snow, and dusty/sandy environments. I've been lucky that I haven't had any issues with something intruding into the body because I was reckless a few times. I'm sure I would be a bit more adventurous if it were weather sealed.
@@Iamtongue dead serious just lucky, took it with me to Cancun, I was on the beach and walked out maybe knee deep in water, I'm just snapping away then all of a sudden, I get hit with a wave. the splash from the wave hit the camera and lens. so I run out of the water to make sure I could dry it off. I noticed bubbling salt water coming from between the lens flange on the camera and the camera itself. I was freaking out and removed the lens and dried the edge around the sensor as best as I could without getting sand in it. That's how I know I'm just lucky.
I wanted to buy the X-S20, because on paper it would be perfect for me. However, I tried two bodies and both had horrible coil whine (constant high frequency noise). I could hear it from several meters away and got a headache from using the viewfinder because of this constant sinus noise in my head and it probably would have been picked up in video. It is very unfortunate as it would have been the perfect upgrade for me except for the much more expensive X-H2s (which hopefully doesn't have coil whine) ☹. Most people won't hear it or won't care, but those with sensitive hearing should be aware of this issue. Apart from this, it is a fantastic and versatile hybrid camera (except for the usual autofocus deficiencies).
This was on track to be one of my favorite cameras until i looked. Back and 20% of my shots were OOF. I bought the a6700 and would recommend that over the XS20.
Hahah dude the AF is trash compared to the sony a6700. I have a comparison video coming soon and it's so embarrassing how Fuji keeps saying their AF is good. It's no where close.
Totally agree that the autofocus on the A6700 is better than the X-S20 but the X-S20 does have a few advantages, better SOOC images (even apply film sims to raw files in-camera), Pre-Shot Es (pics of lightening super easy) , HDR and muti-shot stacks and I found it was more resistant to overheating. Plus even though I don't use it 6.2K open gate is impressive. I still think the A6700 is the better all-rounder but I went with the X-S20. Subsequent firmware updates have actually improved the AF performance but it's still not as good as Sony.
What would be a similar camera to this, mainly price point and size, with slightly better auto focus? I will be shooting action shots, like dirt bikes, and worry it wont be able to auto focus on the quicker speeds. I assume dust would be a major issue with this camera too as it’s not weather sealed? I really want it :(
can you use this camera for professional work? like studio shoot (products with models) for people who's trying to start their career? or better go for a6700??
I wouldn't use a camera that doesn't have dual memory cards for paid professional work. Go for something like the XT5 or Sony A7iii. Doesn't happen often but a memory card failing even once on a paid job will make you wish you had a backup.
The photos look gorgeous. I was wonering how's the overheating? Especially for 4K 30 talking headhots? I figure i dont need 60fps for talking headshots. I am a beginner youtuber shooting on s23 ultra and im considering a6700 or this camera. If anyone has experience with this could you let me know? Much appreciated.
It depends on where you live tbh. I filmed 6.2k 24p videos until i exhausted my battery. That was around 75mins. It’s the 4k60 where you run into overheating..
@Iamtongue I'm planning to shoot 4k 30 frames (which should be ok for talking shots I'm guessing) I'll be shooting most indoors with A/C, but our summers get to around 35 Celsius if i decide to shoot in the park.
Are we 1 firmware update away from much improved autofocus? Seems xm5 already has better autofocus and xh2s update has greatly improved autofocus? Not perfect but back up to par perhaps? How long before they fix xs20 firmware or will they ever?
There is so much I love about this camera, but one massive infuriating issue that I can't seem to solve: the metering is horrible! So often, my shots are overexposed. I mostly work in manual mode for aperture and shutter speed and let the camera set ISO based on my selections. And if I'm working in daylight or brightly lit indoor spaces, the camera's first attempt to meter the shot leads to over-exposure. If I wait a second and half-press the shutter again, it often corrects the problem. But the first attempt gets it wrong more often than not. I also have an X100F, and it never had metering problems. I also own 2 full frame Sony cameras, and both meter almost perfectly.
I have the X-S10 I actually enjoyed the camera, but I have been considering selling my Fuji gear and going full Canon since I also have Canon R6 mark II. The AF is night and day Canon AF is clearly superior to Fuji. A Canon crop sensor camera like the R7. Since Sigma is currently making RF-S lenses I can get the same lenses I use with Fuji. The AF on Fuji is an issue
I have to take a look at canon. I'm not a fan of them because of their cripple hammer ways. I know they just started allowing brands to make third party lenses again. But so far it's been the apsc line. I haven't seen much full frame third party options.
