As I explained in my previous post: This song is from their original demo CD 'Breaking The Silence' Halestorm released back in 2001, with their original lineup Lzzy and Arejay Hale and their father, Roger Hale, hence the name 'Hale'storm. The demo CD was self-printed by them and probably sent to multiple labels and handed out to people at gigs etc in the hopes of getting noticed and signed, which means getting hold of an original is pretty hard to come by. Hope that helps :)
I am amazed at the people that say Lizzy was tired, or it was an old recording, she was young and hadn't developed her voice, or not her best work!!! Music is passion and when you feel like she undoubtedly did when she wrote this it causes you to push your emotions and voice. I like the roughness and think its amazing that she could call on it when it was perfect for the song. Wish there was more female singers out there that could grab those dirty notes like Lizzy.
+tdcnick - Oftentimes, the ONLY person that can do a song properly, and with the needed emotion is the writer. That is because the writer is the ONLY person that knows what they had on their mind and in their heart when it was written. For example, Janis Joplin - "piece Of My Heart". Some new country singer tried to do a remake and crossover. All she did was 'sing the words', and it came thru with the emotion of the piece completely absent. (That's when I stopped listening to the 'new' country music. Just wasn't the same.) I don't believe that Lizzy was tired, or anything like that. I believe that she did this piece with the emotions she had when it was written. Good on her! Have a great day! HG
Her voice has grown so much since this was recorded, as well as her access to better recording equipment. I know mainstream has goaded her towards other "harder" styles, but she does have this softer quality as well you don't see anymore. I'd like to see something like this redone. Completely redone. Redo the arrangement so it isn't quite so simple. Bring in some of the complexities she's capable of now. I think this song was premature / before its time. I'd be curious to see what a modern do-over could bring to it.
+Daelmyth - I kinda like the idea of the remake, but one must be careful, because things are often over-thought. This may just be one that is better served by simplicity. Whether the subject is music, paint work on cars and motorcycles, paint work on houses, artwork on the walls, or making jewelry...(name your subject)...complexity is not always an improvements. It is what I call "simple elegance". Have a great day! HG
Agreed. You make a very valid point. I can totally jive with that, but when one who entertains the idea of approaching something has not yet reached fruition, would you not be curious to see what would happen if fruition was applied?
A studio remake could be done, with a new version/interpretation, but with the understanding that if it doesn't work as well, then it must be scrapped and never revived. Curiosity has killed a lot of cats! LOL~!
I like that you used the eye pictures, and I think it fits the song. Lzzy says 'with these tears I cry' and tears come from eyes. Also I agree, eyes are the gateway to our souls. Great job on the video. I only put the good lyric videos in my playlist.
Omg sitting here crying my eyes out!!!! RK ima love u 4evr!!! U taught me so much abt life, love and heartbreak. You'll always be one of my greatest adventures and you'll dwell in the shadows of my heart 4evr!!! Thanks for everything ❤💯🤘🤘🤘
I dedicate this to my ex-wife. In the shadows of my heart part of me will always love her, but it is clear she is only hurting me. We had a very bad break up but are still best friends. All she does is take from me. If I don’t give her what she asks for (money and food) she gets angry. When she fails to pay a bill because I didn’t give her money she blames me. She will take my last dollar because as long as I have money she doesn’t get why I won’t give it to her. But she never gives anything in return. Our friendship leaves me lonely and empty. But I know she needs me. I go through hell for her. I never show it but in the shadows of my heart I cry.
one day brother, you will realise you are not only being took for a fool by your ex wife, but also by yourself. i sincerely hope that its sooner rather than later, you deserve better.
WolfmoonWoman You deserve better hon. Your friendship is clearly not healthy if she is using you. Dont let her do that to you. You deserve better. Letting go of her will make things better for you.
Im sure this was a personal anthem for the artist, hence the length and the age of this song (older halestorm) Her voice has grown with time, perhaps this recording evoked certain emotions...who knows....we all know Halestorm rocks. And Selena a great job!
Just a shame... you will NEVER find this album anywhere!!! This was one of their first albums ever made, that she sang here around PA.... sigh and its great!
Ok my friend made me listen to halestorm but I am not into new bands atm, but I thought why not, since my fav band split up I hated music. So I listened to Mz. Hyde and thought ok cool, and then listened to dirty work, same response, I saw this and when she started singing I immidiatly started crying.. Normal..?
Selena thank you for your effort, I think you did very well for your first video well done, I LOVE Halestorm and Lizzy is GREAT!! the song, the words are great, deep and real heartfelt... However I would agree with "Dave Rhodes there", I have heard better of her voice. Her voice sounds tired and roughed like she has been recording for weeks or just back from a tourer/concert , maybe a cold?? Sorry but that's my experience talking.. Rest lizzy You have been working so hard the band rocks YOU kick arse please I re do this song in the way of "Private Parts"
(I hate character restriction, sorry for a third post lol) Plus, the producer and the label of the final 'real' album has a BIG say in what songs from these first demos have potential, and what songs he/she perceives that don't have potential, which was probably the case with this song. They're not 'hiding' this song, they're probably just following the advice of the producer, or they may just not like it as much as when they did when they first wrote the song - which happens!
It's hard to find because it's a rare EP from back in 2001, before Halestorm were even completely formed and before they had gained any real recognition. Early EPs are hard to find because they usually only had a few 100 copies self-printed and sent off to people in the hopes of getting picked up by a label, and Breaking The Silence (the EP this song is on) is one of those self-released EPs. It's not a mass printed album like their self-titled album or 'The Strange Case Of', so its hard to find.
I bet ya anything they're waiting to re-record these. U can't find them anywhere! Plus they do seem like songs good for later in their career... think about playing in a small club where everyone is ready to jump around and get crazy and then you and pull this song out... it's a huge treat to the fans like me who can appreciate it... but most people (unfortunately), just won't get it =/
lol sometimes a simple arrangement is best, as for her voice the song is very emotional and I bet she crys during it.. try singing while you cry.. your voice would be rough too :P
i love the images you use..im assuming google search? If so what was the key words you used to find some of them..you can answer privately if you don't want everyone to know. I want them for reference material to try the make up first hand, thanks
And in answer to how the original uploader got hold of it: all it takes is one person to rip it from the original EP, upload it to UA-cam, and then it'll just start a chain reaction where people are taking it from UA-cam and re-uploading it until there's a mass of different uploads of the same song, which is a good thing because it enables people (like you) to be able to listen to these old demos - which is all they really are; demo songs before the 'real thing'.
So I bet they're holding out for the arena (or at least amphitheater) shows. 'Cause thats where songs like this really shine the most :P imo they should've just capitilized on these kind of songs, rock is dying and songs like this can really help revive it. Her voice is amazing for being 17 and the musical structure is incredible (not the typical verse chorus verse chorus bullshit that they're doing now). I hope they re-record this album for their next one; this last one was basically a flop xP
Plus I kinda just WANNA GET THIS ALBUM ALREADY!!!! and it's not on their website, iTunes or anywhere!!!! they gotta be hiding it for a reason How did you even get this song!? O.o
Always come back to this song, love the voice and emotion.
Yeah

Went thru what Lzzy sings about and this song helps me so much.
The vocal and instrumental range of this bad is a beautiful thing. Ill be a halestorm fan till I die.
Me too agreed

Yes I wish she would redo this one too
Guided, you mean, not goaded
your right.. the eyes are the window to the soul, i love he way you incorporated them into the lyrics, beautifully done..
I am not ashamed to say that this song makes me cry.
This has so much soulful emotion. So much power & grit. She's like a female Dio!
hell i could tell her voice anywhere they just rock!!!!
Beautiful and very powerful lyrics.

I love this song. I wish they would record it for a new album since this is an old one from like 10 or 12 years ago...
It's a beautiful song and so heart touching
Love all of Halestorm, new and old, but she has come so far! It's amazing what you can do with dedication like hers =)
I dedicate this to my ex-wife. In the shadows of my heart part of me will always love her, but it is clear she is only hurting me. We had a very bad break up but are still best friends. I listen to this band when i was 14 and now im 21 i still love em from the day i listen to em

Been looking for this song again for ages. Saving it.
Ms. Hale.... You are channeling the great Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) here! Sweet child in time..... That kind of pain! Love this track!
So long ago! Wow. I'd love to hear this song now like she does with 'Rose in December'.
when you feel every word... when you have lived and lost the love...perfect song!
Lzzy has completely different voice now imho :o
Beautiful song!
Lzzy and Arejay are the best!!!!!
Great work on the video! This is one of my fav songs by this band.
It is. I saw them perform this song over10 years ago at the Millenium Music Conference in Harrisburg, PA. I am pretty sure it was 2001 or 2002
it's a beautiful song and you did an excellent job-keep it up ~
gateway to the soul
Personally I feel that they eyes are the window, the one part of you that no matter how hard you try shows all of your inner hurt and weariness.
I love her voice. So emotional, so painfully. Every time I hear it I get goosebumps
Great job on the video, this is a exceptionally beautiful song, I love it!
AMAZING HALESTORM IS AND ALWAYZ WILL BE!!
love it the pics match the heart-filled words of this song you did amazing for your first time
Just a shame... you will NEVER find this album anywhere!!! This was one of their first albums ever made, that she sang here around PA.... sigh and its great!

Perfectly normal, I did :)
lzzy is just amazing........ everyone has felt what she sings
I guess I'm not normal then
Allynore that's the way I am with Rose in December.

I'm in first class and I'm about bawling. Such a sad song D: But I connect with it too well
Awesome !!!
I think she was about 15 maybe 16 and her voice was still great, i mean she's grown to levels that I'm not sure anyone will achieve anytime soon
awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
pretty good job chick
THIS IS SOME GOOD OLD SHIT

DAMN GOOD JOB
RELATIONSHIPS IS ABOUT LOVE, HONESTY, AND RESPECT, BUT SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T WORK OUT, I ALWAYS LOVE YOU ASHLEY ANNE-MARIE, I'M SORRY
