      You bet, it's great that people are still interested in this old technology.

      @@BobWilson84 Did you get my email I sent to your website Bob ? You sold what I wanted but I am sure you could school me on some of the others. They do look nice and appear like they would meet my needs Bob. Any thoughts ? Thanks, Mike.

    Thanks for this in-depth breakdown of this classic 80’s turntable that has been long forgotten about.

      You bet, 80s HiFi tech doesn't always get the love it deserves.

    And after 10 minutes of calibration you can play your vinyl!
    After 55 years of collecting vinyl I've encountered maybe one record that was detectably out of round by human ears. Great engineering in service of solving a problem that doesn't exist in enough numbers to warrant the solution.

      And the crazy thing about it is, is that you can this manually in way less time then it takes for this thing to do it automatically. I got rather good at centering 45rpm records because I didn't have a spindle adapter at the time. Just using my pinky finger, I could center a 45 perfectly in under 3 seconds.

      I agree with you. I learned that some of my favorite and most audibly-impressive vinyls are out of round. I can’t hear the difference. Even still, it’s a fun experiment into HiFi tech.

    Wow,I wasn’t aware the Nakamichi made turntables. Tape decks,absolutely but anything else is new to me. Impressive technology.😊

      Same here, they actually made a turntable that predated this one. The TX-1000 is even more rare.

      AFAIK this turntable was made by Micro Seiki for Nakamichi.

      I mean, the TX-1000 was made by Micro Seiki, the Dragon CT was made by Fujiya Audio.

    I wonder why they are using a separate tone-arm and stylus for the centering process. I don't see why they can't use the main tone-arm to detect the wobble instead. Seems like a waste to me.

    • @BobWilson84
      @BobWilson84  18 днів тому

      That’s a great point, maybe the complexity of the mechanics was too much for the audio tonearm.

      As long as the logic is working correctly (everything is trying to operate as demonstrated) the fine tuning adjustments are sorta straight forward. I didn’t mention in the video, a handful of the electrolytic caps were actively leaking, so that bit of maintenance should be completed if you find one. And you’d need some sort of jig to perform the work and testing…… I guess it is a little daunting compared to a typical manual turntable.

    Nice machine, but this could have all been avoided if they had made records that were centered in the first place!

    • @BobWilson84
      @BobWilson84  18 днів тому

      Agreed, especially when you consider new records have the same issue. I wonder if the limiting factor is the pressing process itself.

    • @appliedengineering4001
      @appliedengineering4001 18 днів тому

      @@BobWilson84 It seems like all the new records that have came out since the 1990's, all have some center hole alignment issues. I think it a lack of quality control.

    • @tiborkocsis5819
      @tiborkocsis5819 17 днів тому

      @@BobWilson84 actually it's not really for off center records, because the centering range is quiet limited. It's for the problem of not standardised center hole diameter, and center shaft diameter. If the hole of the record is bigger than the diameter of the shaft, you can't put the record on centered.
