01:47 - Intros. Including great intro by (Charles Lloyd) 04:13 - Masters Of War ( Bob Dylan) 14:07 - Of Course, Of Course (Charles Lloyd) - 1965 23:39 - Shenandoah 33:42 - La Llorona (Mexican folk song) 47:56 - In My Room (Beach Boys) 57:51 - Island Blues (Charles Lloyd) - 1965 1:09:59 - Abide With Me ( William Henry Monk) (1861)
57 years old and just figuring out what kind of jazz I like😊 Subscribed to Amazon music and found this album by accident. Bought Tone Poem on vinyl last month. Have to wait for another pressing on this one.
I count myself very lucky to have caught this tour. Beautiful show. Great lineup. Unique and wonderful. Everyone knows Charles, Bill & Greg but I was there as much to finally see Eric Harland play live. Such a great musician.
Charles Lloyd can and always could play, the same goes for Frisell. This is fun and lighthearted and easy to listen to on a summer evening, and it defines and fulfills its purpose.
outstanding. Nicely balances Frisell's fascination with American roots and popular music and serious jazz chops. A style I think of as "post-everything" that Frisell has done as much as any other individual to promote -- to the benefit of us all.
SACRED SOUL SUBLIME SONICS. TESTAMENT OF EVANESCENT + ETERNAL BEAUTY = CHARLES. Charles, you call/ whisper OUT the luminous divinity + celestial GRACE from the musicians. We, the listeners, are drunk/ astonished on what you create and offer: the SACRED SUBLIME! ALWAYS the sacrd sublime. Thank YOU, Charles, always and ALL ways THANK YOU! xoxo Catherine
In the middle of La Llorona I started thinking of Charlie Haden and his influence on Jazz, bringing folk themes and Latin influences. Tremendous performances.
Sitting here listening while I work, and found myself becoming rather passionately involved, "What a tune!" I realized I'm humming to La Llorona. Man, what cool surprise!
DOES CHARLES LLOYD EVER DO A BAD GIG OR RECORDING?! I suspect the saxist wouldn't begin to know how to. He's always been graced with the cream of musicians. BUT, IT'S THE 'X FACTOR' OR 'JE NE SAIS QUIO' in his great music that keeps the listener both engaged and enthralled - in equal measures for me! Thanks Mr Adams for wonderful upload.
The the song at 33:38 sounds very Cape Verdean. Simple and a beaut, perhaps the best in the set. Charles Lloyd and Bill Frissell have a wonderful melodic tone, indeed very reminiscent of the Pres, with Coltrane overtones. I love Frissell's Wes Montgomery- like octaves.
La Llorona is a Mexican folk song and has been interpreted by a lot of artists, perhaps the one by Chavela Vargas is the most well known (parts of it featured in the movie Frida). This is indeed a very smooth and different version of it, I really liked it!
First Set Masters Of War Of Course, Of Course Shenandoah La Llorona In My Room Island Blues Abide With Me Second Set Lady Gabor Bright Sun Upon You Requiem Dorotea's Studio You Are So Beautiful Sombrero Sam Prayer
+azzaz1 It IS "Nottamun Town", the English folk song! Dylan borrowed the entire melody for "Masters of War". Fairport Convention, (with Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny did a haunting version on their "What We Did On Our Holidays" album Vicgmus
I love the versions of Shenandoah and In My Room from this one. I think I originally heard it on WNYC. Great stuff.
Charles plays with an exceptional awareness of the other musicians around him.
I feel so privileged to be alive and to experience this wonderful, soulful music. I love everything Lloyd plays.

Wish my generation were more interested in jazz. I'm a millennial. But hey jazz lives on.

Charles Loyd's musical vision is a vast and wide open country of the soul and of the mind.
Charles Lloyd can and always could play, the same goes for Frisell. This is fun and lighthearted and easy to listen to on a summer evening, and it defines and fulfills its purpose.
Charles Lloyd, still making vital, multidimensional music over 60 years on.
Beautiful sounds in a wonderful setting! Thank you for posting!

Charles is a marvelous communicator-there is genuine passion and heartfelt emotion in everything he does-a wonderful set by a fine band.
He also gives the musicians on stage with him room to stretch out & do what they do. One of the things I love about him.

Beautiful...just found this....✌😎
Charles Lloyd is something else. The music sounds a lot different from the conventional Charles style we got accustomed to. I'm loving this.
+George Kgang the second tune actually reminded me of the old classical jazz days with Chico Hamilton
Sitting here listening while I work, and found myself becoming rather passionately involved, "What a tune!" I realized I'm humming to La Llorona. Man, what cool surprise!
Lloyd is playing stronger than ever. Amazing at his age. This may his finest band. The first song reminds of Dylan's Masters of War.

+azzaz1 you are absolutely right. Bob borrowed the melody to "Nottamun town"
+rebarbertaartje Thank you!
