Hello. May i ask something? Is this monitor the size of three screens? I am interested in getting one for sim racing and the 49inch ones aren't long enough to show side mirror to side mirror to replace a three screen set up. So i was wondering if this is long enough.
i have question you talk about switching the hdmi port if you use another source but ath is when. I whant to use the leftscreenhalf for my xbox whit 1 hdmi2.1 slot and the other half of the monitor with windows to manage stream stuff do this works or work only 1 source i have seen some older monitors who can split the screen for 2 sources

Pete, I am using the Bewiser S1020 monitor arm and once you adjust the tension enough on the monitor swivel bracket it holds firm, no sagging. Purchased it from Amazon for around $170US dollars.
@@PeteMatheson I have the S1020 as well and can confirm once you get the tension adjusted proper, it has no sag.. and I have mine set angled up by a degree or two. The price had me skeptical of its quality but I can confirm it has very smooth action and is on par with Ergotron.
@@PeteMatheson Yes. I have the same arm. No issues for this beast of a monitor. Although I do get nervous anytime I'm having to move the monitor.... so big and I worry I'll break it.
Ditto. That arm is a beast. I had to buy a steel beam to attach to my desk because the weight was causing the desk itself to twist, but the monitor arm handles it like a champ.
Another fantastic, thorough review Pete! I still have thr Ergotron monitor arm I won from you a while back, and it works flawlessly. If Samsung comes out with the OLED version of this, my current neo g9 will become a secondary monitor in a heartbeat.
@@dimash3215 The OLED doesn't have a 1000r curve. The 1000r is EVERYTHING to me. Although I love OLED, without the 1000r, I feel like I'm looking at a warped screen.
I have had the 49inch Neo for a few months and honestly for me its been flawless. If you are on the fence about getting one of these G9 screens; just go for it. One thing to note however is that these screens can be very heavy, you’ll need two people to love and fit onto a monitor arm. Apart from that, i was very happy to sell my two 32nch screens after using one of these for a few days.
I have two 27" screens and I'm thinking of upgrading to either the 49" or 57" G9. I've always been skeptical of Samsung products, and have ALWAYS used LG screens (TV's included) but this thing looks so, SO dope!
I'm 2 months into having this monitor & your last videos helped convince me. Took a few days to get used to it but from then on I've never looked back. It's perfect for coding work, the lack of burn in risk being a key factor in that - I'm actually quite happy it's not OLED. I use a separate 55" OLED screen for gaming and this for work so get the best of both worlds. I run 3 machines on it and have no issues, if a laptop supports Thunderbolt 4 then you can use the full res. Being future proof is a nice bonus. Things that I've learnt that nothing saw warned me about what was the HDR feels washed out in productivity work. I've tried calibrating but it didn't seem to help much. The SDR is great though & I only use it at about half brightness. With a deep desk the stand isn't an issue at all IMO. At first I thought the wobble would bother me but it turned out to just be a non issue. Well, well worth it.
I've just bought the samsung 57 inches monitor (going to be delivered in next few days). I want a soundbar for the audio. From what I understand, HDMI soundbars don't work because the monitor doesn't have the HDMI arc port. Is it possible to use a soundbar with a USB port and connect it to one of the monitor's USB ports? Does it works? For example the Razer Leviathan V2. Any suggestions? Thanks
Hi @jamesh5412, could you elaborate on "if a laptop supports Thunderbolt 4 then you can use the full res."? I have this monitor and am running a brand new Mac mini M2 chip and have not been able to get 7680x2160 resolution...I am using a high quality HDMI cable
Thank you so much for the sleep mode part. For my specific use case, that’s one of the biggest deal breakers. I really was about to start getting excited for this thing and I’d say you just saved me a lot of money on this one.
I own the oled and i’ve tried the 57” in the store and I much much prefer the oled. They absolutely need to make a oled of the 57”, it’s the only thing holding it back. The resolution is perfect and the curve is so immersive
that's personal preference. oled on a gaming monitor is not something i'd be willing to risk. i'm not trying to make sure I don't have a static menu up for too long to risk burn-in
@@hamoodyman9239 I 100% understand where you’re coming from considering oled is so expensive, but the tech has improved so much to the point where I can confidently say there’s a 90% chance most oleds will never burn in noticeabley at all. Every screen I own is oled, monitor, tv, even iphones have oleds. I would say they are on par with the probability of a lcd burning in, maybe even less with all the built in screen care on these devices. Still if you are worried pholed “phosphorus oled” should be coming out soon, with basically burn in being impossible.
I used an LG OLED 55" for a few years. It is driving me crazy looking to the top of it. I'm just too close, tbh. So, I ordered this monitor. It will arrive in a few days. I'm excited to get back to an actual monitor.
@@thecroodsn Yes, I'm loving this monitor. Once you get used to moving windows holding Shift (I use Microsoft PowerToys for windows management), it is very intuitive.
Been using LG C1 65" for the year I've had my 4090. I have it sitting on a stand...and then in front of me another small rectangle table for mouse/keyboard. Works very well and looks perfect from about 4 1/2 to 5 feet away. I wouldn't want to sit any closer though.
@@tommylee2836 OLED burn in isn't very common anymore. It became a meme due to it being more frequent when the technology was new; but it's not much of a thing now since these TVs and monitors have built in burn in mitigation features.
Was interested in this product. Love the 4K resolution it offers. One thing to note, MacBooks do have a scaling option for the text/logo size in the display settings (while keeping the resolution 4K)
Sorry to pick a nit but it's MiniLED, not MicroLED. MicroLED is a different thing, with each pixel being an individual LED (which is why they're 10ft+ and $100k+).
Which mount did you use for this? I am trying to set up 2x2 with four of these Odyssey 57s. Not finding great solutions at the moment. Thanks for any point in the right direction.
@@brandoschad3097 as he wanted a standing desk, we turned to a company specialising in trade desks (think Bloomberg terminals). The mount is fixed to the desk by a set of in-built rails, with an extra long pole and fixed brackets. As the motor for raising the desk has to handle the weight of the monitors, as well as the computer running them (in a compartment on the desk), the desk itself ended up being a custom build costing around £5K
Using this with an m3 max MacBook as well and love it. Couple of things have helped my experience: 1- I use side by side to have my Mac split the screen into two 4k screens which it likes better. Zoom calls are easier cause I can just share a normal 4k monitor, and scaling works properly so everything isn’t so small. I use each side in 3200x1800 which is a HiDPI mode so it uses the full resolution just scaled at that size. Only downside is you have to deal with the slight weirdness of the line in the middle and the one screen that’s at 60Hz. 2 - I grabbed the PUTORSEN Premium ultrawide heavy duty single wall mount for 80 bucks off Amazon. Works great and no sag, even when I move it around to different positions for work and my sim rig. I did have to use a longer Allen wrench than the one included to crank down the head tighter though. Your mount may work if you grab a longer Allen to increase your torque.
Thanks! Yeah I used to do that but got annoyed with the line and strange colour difference. Looking for a desk mount rather than wall as I’ve a sit stand desk. Couple of others have posted recommendations so I’m gonna check those out!
Pretty sure they have a desk mount version as well. Also, check your cables and monitor firmware. I’m using thunderbolt 4 to hdmi 2.1 and the hdmi 2.1 to hdmi 2.1 ports and I don’t have any color difference and as long as nothing is moving, there’s no line either.
Do double check to see if you can tighten down the head better with a longer Allen wrench though. That mount looks almost identical to mine so I have a feeling if you can torque it more there’s no reason to buy a new one.
When you use side by side, the monitor does one side at 120 and another at 60. Been fine like that since I’m just working in that mode. My cable setup is in the comment above.
Glad to hear some positive feedback on this monster of a monitor. There is so much complaining about the 240 hrz not available on a 4090. There is no real game that can output these fps on a resoltion like this at the moment. I have been using this monitor for 6 months for work an gaming and it absolutely great.
@@PeteMatheson Haha you get used to it within 1 hour 😀. You will definitely get a huge boost in performance. Just try out some Alan Wake 2 with Path Tracing pfffff. Just beautifull on a screen this big. Enjoy!
I’m confused, you say the 4090 doesn’t have HDMI 2.1 support? It most definitely does….even my 3090 had HDMI 2.1….My Asus Scar 18 that has a 4090 also has HDMI 2.1. I use an LG oled 4k @ 120hz and I also have the Samsung 55” 8K tv which does 4k @ 120hz and 8K @ 60hz, both of which I ran comfortably with the ASUs Scar 18. 8K @ 60hz can only be done with an HDMI 2.1 port.
What exactly were the problems with the 7900 xtx? I was looking to buy one in the near future especially because i dont see the benefit of a 4-5% Performance increase with a RTX 4090. Or maybe im just hating a bit on NVIDIA.
Nothing, I just believe he had a bad configuration and taichi is not the best company you can go with for AMD cards. If you plan to get the 7900 XTX I strongly suggest buying the Sapphire Nitro version it will work flawlessly.
I've got a Power Color Red Devil 7900 XTX that's just an absolute BEAST! It's got some coil whine, but I'm almost always wearing headphones, so it's a non-issue for me.
I have the XFX Merc 310 Black Edition and so far no issues running whatever game I throw at it. I have been able to run it yet at 7680x2160 240hz because my pc isn’t close to use the ridiculously short DP cable. Not knowing better I ordered a 10ft DP cable only to get artifact in and screen tearing since apparently from what I’ve researched so far 6.6ft is the max length without issues for that resolution. Right now I’m using HDMI and sticking with 120hz.
@@TyrkhanTo be honest, i wouldn´t have thought of that as well. I´ll be shure to kepp the cable lenght in mind when upgrading to the new rig. Thank you for the warning!
You can also logon blindly, which normally will get it to find the Neo. I do use a Bios password, skipping Boot-logo and allows for a 1 second Boot-delay. The 2-step logon (Bios password, then Windows password) also helps setting up the PC Neo G9 connection. Having a Bios password (and no logo) makes for a safer setup.
@@PeteMatheson Nope, using Windows. That sounds more like a device related issues. Perhaps something in the settings or config menu could resolve that.
For those who are dealing with screen sharing issues, use a docking station, and connect two or more display cables e.g. two hdmi and then use the picture by picture feature of the monitor, then you can have split screen
Apple user here-the issue you were having with resolution scaling simply isn’t a thing. Changing the resolution is the equivalent to scaling the UI on a MacBook Pro. I do it all the time with my iMac and have also done it with my silicon MBP. You should notice that the sharpness of text doesn’t change-the text, windows, and everything else simply gets bigger. What’s weird is that the same UI scale value between your Studio and MacBook Pro resulted in a different sized UI-that IS unusual, but still shouldn’t be a problem. Again, just decrease the “resolution” and you should notice that everything stays sharp while simply getting bigger. I know it’s not a very intuitive system, but this is in fact how it works on Mac
Install two horizontal rails on the wall behind + a mobile vertical one that actually travels on them left-right with the screen + a "U" shaped sleigh anchor that travels inside the vertical one. Vertical stops with holes into the vertical rail and pins in it the sleigh, with the monitor self-locking as it leans just a tiny bit forward by its own weight ;) The higher up it goes the more it will lean forward and vice-versa with variable spacing in between those holes ;) Just an idea ;)
I share the same setup for both remote work (8+ hours Monday to Friday) and gaming/entertainment (4+ hours each day mid-week and 8+ during the weekends), which makes current QD-OLED/WLED/OLED monitors not really viable unless I want to be extremely careful about burn-in, which I'm not sure I want to put up with. Would you recommend this over any other solution that can survive my specific use case? I prefer ultrawide monitors, my office is well treated for light, money is not truly an issue. I have never used an OLED screen before, so I wouldn't feel like I miss OLED panels, though I do like how they look on display at department stores and such. Thank you for the review!
I've been doing that for over 6 months, no signs of burn in. You'd really have to be careless and exaggerate to have burn ins. And new Qd-oled have 3+ years of burn in warranty...
I wanted to get this but a few Reddit posts about scan lines STILL being a thing and dead units really rubbed me the wrong way waiting for this revision for a few years
@@XxsoonerbornxX yeah I kinda realized that recently, I got the newer LG 45” oled and so many were whining about the resolution and how text is unreadable lol, it’s literally fine especially with clear type/mac type and it’s such an awesome experience that they dismiss cuz he said she said BS on the internet
Just one tiny complaint on an otherwise stellar review....you said microLed but its really a miniLed...with microLed you wouldnt get any blooming period since its pixel sized like Oled...so literally true blacks like Oled since individual pixels can be turned off like oled....but otherwise the review is excellent
I absolutely love where monitor technology is going. I current run two alienware 34 in oleds. In a stack configuration and man. 68 inches of screen is amazing. Gaming on one and doing work and school on the other.
Agree. Although, just a small nit-pick, that's not really 68 inches what you're describing. You would need four 34 in monitors in order to combine them into a single 68 in monitor
Really appreaciate this video, one question tho, does ur macbook pro heats up really fast or the fans become really noisy when u connect it to the screen?
I have the 49" ultra wide variant and ended up buying the Mount-It RV TV Mount (MI-431) for it. Holds the weight easily and locks into place close to the wall. Much cheaper than the ergo mount. Another thing you need to utilize is the PNP feature. Its a game changer. I have the 7900 XTX as well and if you swap over to the Pro drivers, your issues will go away.
Both my father and father-in-law bought Samsung TVs which got replaced 3 times under warranty for various defects, then both of them gave up on Samsung when the 3rd TV bezel cracked for both of them! I never buy anything Samsung because of this
Yeah wild, been using a 6900XT since it came out and the only issue I had was when AMD finally gave us OpenGL drivers (all dat Minecraft FPS) it broke some of my games. (edit: yes the issue was fixed with later drivers)
@Pete - Long time Super UltraWide on Mac user here. Get Parallels tools for Mac and you can use the Resolution tool to adjust your resolution. There are hidden Resolution settings, (Some will be available by holding alt while in the system pref - display settings screen), that are accessible via the Parallels tool I'm talking about. There will be 2 settings for nearly every resolution. In your case you'll see, "7680x2160" and "7680x2160 (Retina)". The resolution you are seeing in system pref is the Retina version - which results in that scaling issue you mentioned.
Thank you for this tip...I very well might need to do this. I am a Mac mini M2 chip user with this monitor & I am only able to get 5120x1440 resolution via HDMI. Should I expect to be able to get the full 7680x2160 resolution, or only with this Parallels download?
Then I change it directly in parallels? And it will work for MacOS? With an M2 you will not be able to achieve the full resolution I think. You need a M2 Pro/Mac or M3 Pro/Max Machine with the HDMI 2.1 Port.
@@christophhazy8080 Thunderbolt dock or thunderbolt to DP would likely work in absence of an HDMI 2.1 port. You change the resolution with the resolution tool in Parallels Toolbox (this is a secondary app to the virtualizing software called Parallels. You can purchase them independent of one another so make sure you choose parallels toolbox)
I too have a 7900XTX paired with this monitor and I have had zero issues with the XTX, but there is a degree of backlight flicker with certain image scenarios. And those issues are worse in 120hz mode (and yes its a mode, 48-120fps OR 96-240hz it cannot do 48hz-240hz). I wouldn't recommend a 4090 with this monitor for that reason alone.
This monitor is insane and I love it. Free tip: enable the Side By Side function and connect both inputs to the same computer. It will work as two separate screens but without a bezel in between.
For the mount issue to prevent drooping just adjust to the perfect angle and jam and allen key in their. I did that with my amazon basics arm to Hold my Samsung OLED G9 and it works perfect lol.
The RTX 4090 does have HDMI 2.1 support but it is limited to 120 Hz because of the GPU not having enough display pipelines. You can only get the full resolution and full refresh rate through DisplayPort 2.1 which is only available on the RX 7900 XTX. The RTX 4090 only has DisplayPort 1.4
Ah I was wondering why the 4090 didn't do the full resolution and refresh rate via the DisplayPort - I wasn't aware it was still only at 1.4 rather than 2.1 (which is kind of silly for the top-line nVidia GPU).
@@DavidStruveDesigns Still have no idea why would Nvidia not go for DP2.1 UHBR20 when the thing (originally) costs 1,600 or a cool 2,200 dollars these days. Guess they want to cap out how useful it is in the future.
I love this monitor so much. I currently run two 34 inch monitors stacked one over the other. I don’t know if I like just how wide this monitor is, but I love the tallness. I think a happy medium // ideal state for me would be something in the 38 inch range sporting the 4k resolution.
I've gone through three replacements because of diagonal lines that look like scan lines and several stuck pixels. Yeah, I made a big mistake buying Samsung.
Thank you for the detailed review I currently have the Samsung 49 CHG90 (2021) and I'm considering to upgrading to this 1. Did you notice any health difference to your eyes pain because this OLED might be with less blue lights? Long hours give me eye pain with CHG90 2. Serious productivity difference from 49 inch?
The extra vertical resolution is a major plus for me that makes this a productivity beast. I can fit more windows and run smaller text compared to my 49" G9. On my 49" G9, windows look big which limits how many I can have so I would end up with many overlapping windows and alt-tabbing till I'm blue in the face.
Thank you for the feedback and going into details. I plan to buy a 57-inch monitor, but I am waiting for the new generation of Nvidia GPUs to come out, hoping they will eliminate the power connector and include the latest display ports. It's a shame Nvidia is still using a legacy version of the HDMI, DisplayPort and no USB-C. HDMI is usually the worst for video and is designed for TVs and TV resolutions. It always seems to have some problems, even when you connect it to a different monitor or computer, and you never know what the outcome will be. Additionally, if you start buying HDMI cables, their performance is also unpredictable.
I am still on the original G9. (Would love to be able to afford this one) Which drives me mad daily when waking up my devices. I literally have to turn my monitor off and on to restore my resolution. So feel your pain there. One tip I will give you. Get a USB 3.0 male to female extension cable to extend the service port out with your power and display cables. This will save you pulling apart the back just to update the firmware.
All samsung monitors have reliability issues, however when other manufacturers use their panels, their monitors dont have issues like samsung native ones.
That's exactly why I look forward to reading reviews of the Acer Predator Z57 monitor when it goes on sale. While it has weaker specs in a few areas compared to the Samsung, it would be a more attractive option if it avoids those issues.
@@inarisk exactlyyy, however it would be nice to have that 240hz for future rtx 5000 series display port 2.1 and the fact that it's 2500 in comparison to Samsung 1700 isn't the most compelling. But it's the only way to avoid Samsung related issues, and no other company is releasing a similar monitor.
The issues you described around having to hard reset your PC to get the monitor to recognize it after sleeping and MacBook crashing... would be deal breakers for me I think. I might try this monitor, just need to make sure it's purchased from a place where it can be returned easily. 🐿
I can’t imagine going smaller ever again having had this monitor for 6 months now. I’ve not had an issue with it waking up, but it is slow to wake up, but that could be the PC and not the monitor. I use it for both productivity and games and I love it. Worth the investment for me.
Does the lack of sufficient curvature put the edges of the screen too far away from your eyes? A triple monitor setup allows you to pull the side monitors in closer so that you have an even distance between all your monitor real estate and your eyes, but you can't really do that with the G9.
Hi Pete, not sure if there's much time to reply to questions on older videos, but recently, I've had the same issue with the "Sleep" where I have to hard restart everything. Did you find a fix or cause? I believe it to be sleep mode but there has been times it's done it while doing something
Neo G9 1440p owner. I wish I could push full screen games to one side. or use sides. Some games define borderless as "black borders everywhere else", some limit to exactly to the resolution, but now the start bar is cutting the bottom and taking over mouse movement when moving across the bottom bar. So you need a taskbar app to move it elsewhere. I like the sides cause then it doesn't look quite so ridiculous AND you get even more real estate. But ye, you would need a "hide taskbar until I press this button" function. And then there's the curve and HDR...it doesn't play nice with the sun. So find a dark corner or use fullmatte curtains.
At 10:53 in the video, it is said that the 4090 doesn't support HDMI 2.1 which is false. The 4090 has a single HDMI 2.1a port. What it doesn't have support for is DisplayPort 2.1, which is what you need for this monitor to run at 240Hz native resolution. Small mistake but wanted to clear that up.
Monitor Arm - Inland heavy duty desk mount arm from Microcenter doesn't droop or sag, but at the level of tightness on the hardware it also cannot be adjusted easily or smoothly, but it can be adjusted quite well, it is very solid. The rgb aspect is done tastefully as well. It has decent, attractive cable management in case you're not putting the arm between the monitor and the wall.
Hiii I have the same monitor hehehe it's a beast, I have no issues with it at all. Also what is that desk clock you have on the left on the riser? It looks awesome
I use this monitor at my SimRig with a 4090 at 120 Hz. It's really nice to drive with this monitor. I've upgraded from a 49 Inch Samsung and this 57 inch is way better
Keyboard control. Mine is fine but reaching under the monitor got old very fast, within the first week. I need to be able to switch between half screen (shared) and full screen. My north-star DREAM would be to be able to all five computers/devices up into it and have the half-screen (right side screen area) be able to split into 4x 1080p monitors. Left side for the primary machine.
What have you found to be the best sitting/eye distance to the screen? I had a ultra wide before and I never could figure out the best position. I feel like its constant trade off between head movement and distance. Is there a golden distance that works for you?
When do you think other manufacturers will start introducing similar monitors? I mean 2x4k with different curve or screen size... Im using old Samsung CRG90 (double 1440p@120Hz) and maybe I'm not thinking about upgrade in near future but... I want to see similar options with lower price...
@@frostyolive But they all 2x1440p, not like 57inch G9 2x2160p. I’m waiting for other options between 49-60 inch with this higher resolution like G9 and high refresh rate.
Hi @PeteMatheson, regarding zoom sharing I found cool option, you can actually share portion of your screen (you just extend lines as you wish, for example I set frame in the middle of my neo g9 and its really easy to screen share because sharing directly applications I find not so comfortable). To do this you can just in the meeting go into "Share" -> "Advanced" (3rd tab after Screens and Doccuments) -> "Portion of screen" - and just adjust area you want to share :D

The Neo is such a cool panel. Too bad it's LCD and not OLED. That's why I opted for the G9 OLED instead. But when Samsung releases an OLED version of the 57" Neo. I'll go for it. But I've been quite satisfied with the G9 OLED.
I don't have this monitor to test it, but there could be a way to use this monitor with full resolution and 240Hz by HDMI. This monitor support PBP so, you can use two HDMI cables from your GPU (each should go 4K@240Hz) and in nvidia control panel configure surround monitor. And there you have your 8k resolution @ 240Hz using HDMI.
I bought one a month ago - and took it back because it made popping noises (a common issue!). Luckily, the 2nd one I got doesn't make any noise at all 👍 I have an Elgato Facecam on mine - and yes, the angle is too high up. It's worse seated below! A killer feature would be a behind the screen webcam like you get in some phones. The plastic cover at the rear is too hard to take off, so I've left mine off so I can access the ports easily. It's against a wall so isn't an issue for me. I'll do a review of mine and how I use it (mostly for work/productivity) soon.
I can't imagine when i will ever be able to afford one of these kind of screens, but i definitly want to see more reviews (just in case!). Because for my particular use case, these shape and size screens look like the perfect answer to a very niggely issue i have had for years that can't seem to be solved with multiple ''normal'' screens.
I'm looking at this monitor over the 49" OLED offerings because I just can't see how a PC screen, which has a lot of static images naturally, wouldn't get burned in.
What was wrong with the XTX card? is it something that everyone will have issues with getting the monitor working to the desisred spec or what actually happened there?
Literally just shot the '1Yr Later' for this monitor - and 100% yes I do, although as soon as an OLED version exists I'll be replacing it immediately :)
I can strongly recommend a software application that I use with this monitor to pass the Mouse/Keyboard AND copy/paste between two (2) computers. It is called Synergy. No problems with it and it works GREAT when multiple computers are hooked into this monitor.
I can't go back to anything that is less than a 1000r curve. When I look at a flat screen monitor, it looks like a fisheye lens to me and gives me a headache, now that I am used to a 1000r curve. The 1000r curve is natural. It is completely odd to look at a flat screen up close, but people don't know it because their eyes have adjusted to it. The holy grail is the OLED with the 1000r curve. I have to stick with the regular monitor until they figure that puzzle out. I HOPE they do because I love OLED screens.
So, a Mac Studio with an HDMI 2.1 can push the full resolution at 240Hz? Please confirm this, this is the only thing stopping me from getting this one.
I’ve had two Samsung monitors 34” ultra wide and a 32 G6 240hz. Both of them had issues with the DP port when the pc went in sleep mode. At first I thought it was my 6800xt GPU . But when I got my 4080 it did the I had the same issue. I used to have unplug the DP cable and shut monitor off to get it to work. I think this is a Samsung thing lol you are having with sleeping issue. My G6 32” DP port went bad I had a warranty through Besy Buy. They gave me store credit so I have the LG 45” Oled and I have zero issue when the pc goes to sleep
Good video btw My 57 inch monitor panel died during a reboot after 13 months! Scary experience… I recommend extending warranty if possible. Anyone else have issues with the monitor.
Gotta say I've been running a Philips 499P9H for a couple of years now, and I'm looking for an upgrade. I've been looking at the 49" OLED and this 57", but that 1000R is throwing me off. 1800R has been absolutely perfect for me. Also, even my old Philips has a powered USB that lets me charge my MacBook. Amazing that Samsung has to skimp even here. What a shame. 🙁
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I have the same monitor and often (not always) have to unplug the power and plug it back in to get it to turn back on from sleep. Dealt with that a lot!
Your solution to the stand is to get a full motion tv stand... just means that instead of mounting a monitor arm to the desk... it attaches to the wall... make sure mounts are on a stud, and then its pretty GG from there.
My last gen neo g9 has had constant issues since launch and I've heard of similar issues from people using every other Odyssey model. The screen occasionally goes completely black or rainbow colored until I power cycle it. This also happened on my second unit I bought several months after returning the first. It has gotten worse with age and prolonged continuous use.
Yeah, that's the one thing making me hesitant to buy this, or possibly the next gen one if they release a new one this year. I have the old curved G7, and I love it, but continually had more and more issues, especially with random flickering. Would've sent an epileptic into a seizure.
I have just notice that my Samsung Odyssey Ark is recognising my MacBook Pro M3 Pro as an AppleTV. When I changed it in the settings of the monitor to be as PC, it showed me 165Hz and HDR option with it as it should. Also, I hag to enable gaming mode in this monitor to get this refresh rate. Please try that with your Samsung monitors and if you can, please make a video about it.
HDMI 2.1 isn't enough bandwidth to do this resolution @ 240Hz. Really, anything over 4K @ 144Hz or so has to run via display stream compression. All Nvidia cards currently on the market have to use display stream compression on these monitors. Also, the 5090 isn't coming in 2024. Expect it in Q1.
I love my two vertically stacked 38” 3840x1600 Alienware (lg) monitors. The biggest annoyance I have with them is the inability to shut off the local dimming “feature”.
Have you tried holding the power button for a few seconds when you had the "no source" kind of issue? I also have this every now and then with my gen 1 G9 when there are multiple sources involved.
I just got my 57" setup and I'm using a zortac 4090, I have to issues I need help with. 1. The monitor RGB lights don't come on in the front nor the rear plus. 2. I have both the DP & HDMI cables connected to the monitor but when I boot up my computer the monitor won't come with the HDMI selected in the menu, I have to go into the menu and select the DP and the monitor will come on. Anyone have this issue?
I don't believe that the sleep issue is exclusive to you. I have the exact same issue with my 49 inch version on my 4090. It seems to happen more when HDR is enabled. Really feels like it's some kind of firmware issue. I'd love the have the issue resolved.

Hello. May i ask something? Is this monitor the size of three screens?
I am interested in getting one for sim racing and the 49inch ones aren't long enough to show side mirror to side mirror to replace a three screen set up.
So i was wondering if this is long enough.
i will have to read in comments, but what arm? i have a secret lab magnus xl desk and looking to get this but the arms dont support
i have question you talk about switching the hdmi port if you use another source but ath is when.

Purchased it from Amazon for around $170US dollars.

can you show a video how to mount it I mean the screws do you take it out of the L shape stand and put it in the vesa circle mount ?

@@bb-ioandepends on your usage, but I understand your point!
55 inch screen for gaming sounds horrible
I've just bought the samsung 57 inches monitor (going to be delivered in next few days). I want a soundbar for the audio. From what I understand, HDMI soundbars don't work because the monitor doesn't have the HDMI arc port. Is it possible to use a soundbar with a USB port and connect it to one of the monitor's USB ports? Does it works? For example the Razer Leviathan V2. Any suggestions? Thanks
I have a Legion 7i, is it compatible with full resolution? I use it for trading, I know nothing about this stuff
I agree with you, HDR is subpar on this monitor even with HDMI 2.1. The real estate on the otherhand is perfect for my sim racing.
Hi @jamesh5412, could you elaborate on "if a laptop supports Thunderbolt 4 then you can use the full res."? I have this monitor and am running a brand new Mac mini M2 chip and have not been able to get 7680x2160 resolution...I am using a high quality HDMI cable
With how close you sit to the screen, you could use a 12" screen and it would still look like ultra-wide for you.

that's personal preference. oled on a gaming monitor is not something i'd be willing to risk. i'm not trying to make sure I don't have a static menu up for too long to risk burn-in
@@hamoodyman9239 I 100% understand where you’re coming from considering oled is so expensive, but the tech has improved so much to the point where I can confidently say there’s a 90% chance most oleds will never burn in noticeabley at all. Every screen I own is oled, monitor, tv, even iphones have oleds. I would say they are on par with the probability of a lcd burning in, maybe even less with all the built in screen care on these devices.
That's not a nit pick at all. That's a big mistake.
It’s an incredible monitor.
We set up a dual monitor system using two of these for a client (one above the other) when it was just launched.
If Samsung comes out with an OLED version of this with high ppi, it will be end game monitor, i'll purchase it right away.
Using this with an m3 max MacBook as well and love it. Couple of things have helped my experience:
1- I use side by side to have my Mac split the screen into two 4k screens which it likes better.
That mount looks almost identical to mine so I have a feeling if you can torque it more there’s no reason to buy a new one.
sorry im thinking of getting this monitor, do you get the full dual 4k with 240hz with a MacBook and what cable do you use to achieve this?
When you use side by side, the monitor does one side at 120 and another at 60. Been fine like that since I’m just working in that mode. My cable setup is in the comment above.
Glad to hear some positive feedback on this monster of a monitor. There is so much complaining about the 240 hrz not available on a 4090.

Maybe i missed something, but how come you aren't using displayport?

Uggggghh the oled 57” needs to come out. My company is waiting for me to order my monitor 😵💫😵💫😵💫
So what were the issues of the XTX?
I too have a 7900XTX paired with this monitor and I have had zero issues with the XTX, but there is a degree of backlight flicker with certain image scenarios. And those issues are worse in 120hz mode (and yes its a mode, 48-120fps OR 96-240hz it cannot do 48hz-240hz). I wouldn't recommend a 4090 with this monitor for that reason alone.
This monitor is insane and I love it. Free tip: enable the Side By Side function and connect both inputs to the same computer. It will work as two separate screens but without a bezel in between.
Thank you for a fantastic video! I have a question, do you know if the free sync works when you use picture by picture?
Why do you sit so close to the monitor? Sit further back, then you won't have to turn your head around.
For the mount issue to prevent drooping just adjust to the perfect angle and jam and allen key in their. I did that with my amazon basics arm to Hold my Samsung OLED G9 and it works perfect lol.
Haha! I love your 'just jam it in there' attitude to resolving that problem!
It's not like the card can actually run 4k above 120hz anyway. What I mean is, a modern game at 4k even on a 4090 will not go above 120fps
Thank you for the detailed review I currently have the Samsung 49 CHG90 (2021) and I'm considering to upgrading to this
1. Did you notice any health difference to your eyes pain because this OLED might be with less blue lights?
Long hours give me eye pain with CHG90

It looks awesome
is there a monitor arm yet?
Is there a golden distance that works for you?
what happened to "plug it in and it works"
When do you think other manufacturers will start introducing similar monitors? I mean 2x4k with different curve or screen size...
Im using old Samsung CRG90 (double 1440p@120Hz) and maybe I'm not thinking about upgrade in near future but... I want to see similar options with lower price...
There are already a bunch of options at the 49" inch size. Not quite as large, but pretty close.
@@frostyolive But they all 2x1440p, not like 57inch G9 2x2160p.
I’m waiting for other options between 49-60 inch with this higher resolution like G9 and high refresh rate.
Fellow 7900XTX owner, here. Totally agree that these cards feel half-baked with the drivers and features.
Thanks
Yes by lowering the color spectrum (so it could have more bandwidth)
I bought one a month ago - and took it back because it made popping noises (a common issue!).
Luckily, the 2nd one I got doesn't make any noise at all 👍
I have an Elgato Facecam on mine - and yes, the angle is too high up.
I have the oddesy 8 for about 2 years. Still brand new
I can't imagine when i will ever be able to afford one of these kind of screens, but i definitly want to see more reviews (just in case!). Because for my particular use case, these shape and size screens look like the perfect answer to a very niggely issue i have had for years that can't seem to be solved with multiple ''normal'' screens.
Finance it dude, especially if you're an American is super easy to get this monitor.
A what issue??
@@sadasd-n2f worse advice wow, if you cant afford to pay it off outright you cant afford, this is such an american comment.
Insert two thin nylon washers on the shaft clamping the pivot shaft to enhance the grip strength.
Better at lower resolutions
Love the necklace, how many people notice it’s a radiator key? Think I might need to do that, always losing mine 😂😂
Thats too small of an end to be a radiator bleed key imo
Hi Pete do you still recommend this monitor? Thanks.
Literally just shot the '1Yr Later' for this monitor - and 100% yes I do, although as soon as an OLED version exists I'll be replacing it immediately :)
@@PeteMatheson awesome thank you
Posted!
@@PeteMatheson Watched itin 6 mins of you releasing it. Thank you great video & very useful.
May I ask where you got these nice wall panels behind your screen at 12:00 from?
Sure! Those came from GIK Acoustics 👍🏼
@@PeteMatheson Awesome thank you :)
0:46 it's backside looks like the Iron Man Mark 1 ❤
Good video btw
My 57 inch monitor panel died during a reboot after 13 months!
The sleep mode issue is probably a Samsung issue. I have 43” qn90b and also have to reboot sometimes just to wake it up
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but I have the same monitor and often (not always) have to unplug the power and plug it back in to get it to turn back on from sleep. Dealt with that a lot!
Your solution to the stand is to get a full motion tv stand... just means that instead of mounting a monitor arm to the desk... it attaches to the wall... make sure mounts are on a stud, and then its pretty GG from there.
in regards to screen sharing using zoom or google meet, it seems like you are using apple, what is the work around for windows?
I have the OLED, same issue with the screen going dark and becoming unresponsive! Thought it was just my setup but seems like you have it too
My last gen neo g9 has had constant issues since launch and I've heard of similar issues from people using every other Odyssey model.
Cracked me up when he called out HDMI 2.1 and showed the motherboard, when talking about the 7900xtx or the 4090
I'm confused. 4090 should support hdmi 2.1, it just doesn't support displayport 2.1
If I'm wrong. I'll wait till 5090 is released this year
HDMI 2.1 isn't enough bandwidth to do this resolution @ 240Hz. Really, anything over 4K @ 144Hz or so has to run via display stream compression. All Nvidia cards currently on the market have to use display stream compression on these monitors. Also, the 5090 isn't coming in 2024. Expect it in Q1.
@@AdrianJReynolds well that's fine. Just whenever it's released is all im saying. I'll wait for that.
This monitor is mini-LED not micro-LED. Huge difference. Micro-LED won't be out for some years.
I love my two vertically stacked 38” 3840x1600 Alienware (lg) monitors. The biggest annoyance I have with them is the inability to shut off the local dimming “feature”.
ouch edge lit... Awful for HDR to a point there is no point in having it at all.
What about flickering on Mac OS? I experience this issue from time to time with my Mac book air m1 connected to Odyssey G9 Neo 49 though CalDigit TS4
To get more than 120hz use a usbC to Display port 2.1 cable. That may also improve the clarity.
Have you tried holding the power button for a few seconds when you had the "no source" kind of issue? I also have this every now and then with my gen 1 G9 when there are multiple sources involved.
Your problem is you are using a Mac
I used the SIIG Heavy Duty monitor arm (holds up to 23kg) for my Odyssey Ark. Maybe you want to use that for your G9.
which is the exact model? To search it in Amazon
@@august0490 SIIG CE-MT3H11-S1. I got it from newegg.
