He still hasn't quite got it right around GPU's, the RTX 4090 will absolutely still be consistently faster than 7900XTX with this display (although a lot more expensive), however due to the lower display port on the 4090 it can't "technically" hit 240hs/fps unlike the 7900XTX that can. Seems like a pain for games that don't let you scale the resolution very easily. Is there not a monitor that allows you to do this without the use of fancyzones or another 3rd party program? I just wish we could get a monitor with this resolution and refresh rate along with productivity in mind. Things like built in Ethernet, power delivery over USB-C, and proper one button kvm to switch all peripherals and video input would be worth the 2k price tag.
@@dayjeremy Easy, you might need the fastest and most stable internet connection possible, which is always gonna be Ethernet. For example for very large file transfers. Oh and I have no problem running PBP modes at 120 on each side in full 4k resolutions. Even when I had two hdmi 2.1 devices connected there wasn't any issues pushing the monitor at 120hz 4k. No HDR of course or VRR. But still that is the best way to console game on this monitor. Great vid as always Pete!!!
Thanks for letting me know about PBP 120hz! I'll try it a few more times, every combination I tried always gave me 60/120! The 7900XTX does get there, but I think in some games you'd get better FPS with the 4090 at 120hz. I'm hoping to get the 5090 on release to try that out as well. That's ridiculous to say it's the way to go when it doesn't get 240hz. Even if you're not getting the full 240fps you can get around 150-180 in plenty of games. It's not worth spending more for a GPU that nerfs your monitor. I'd rather get the 240hz and have the full available VRR range. Not to mention fsr/dlss exists.
Finally someone who is giving some love to super ultrawides! I was considering making some videos but I don’t have the latest and greatest G9 but yea he nailed most of the issues it generated has such as some games support it and some dont and pic by pic mode cuts refresh rate in half
If you would have paired your 7900xtx with a Ryzen 7800x3d or higher x3d CPU, you would have been able to use the smart access memory feature which without over explanation, would have boosted your FPS. Not up to 240 FPS fast but a noticeable amount.
This monitor is very welcomed by our customers of our chair cockpit … many of them asking if our Manticore chair can support the G9 monitor . The Answer is Yes.
I never understood all the people claiming you can't draw a straight line on a curved monitor, I assume they are just repeating something they read somewhere.
@@PeteMatheson It reminds me of years ago people parroting that we didn't need monitors with high refresh rate because "the human eye can't see more than 30FPS anyway".
The daft 1m DP cable is a pain, but other than that, I’m loving this monitor. I’ve upgraded from an old, beloved 32” Benq 1440 screen, and I love having the extra space. I’m primarily using it for non-gaming uses at the moment, but it will also be a gaming screen. I was considering a second 32” screen, an OLED 4k one probably but I’ve always found 2 screens is a pain unless one is definitely subsidiary and off to one side, because there is always some sort of bezel right in the middle at the ideal spot for your eyes.
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
haha you actually made me go and look to see if the 7900 XTX is actually better than the RTX 4090... (it's definitely not, in case someone is wondering)
I have a MacBook Pro M2 MAX. The resolution I'm able to get with a USB C to DisplayPort is 5120 x 1440. The text is still blurry and not as Crisp if I plug in my Windows laptop to the monitor. this is Very simply a SOFTWARE ISSUE. it's clear to me after trying a billion cables and third party apps even to try to adjust the display settings that Mac OS just simply does not SCALE things well. Another thing - that "HiDPI" thing that you see next to resolutions on a Mac, I don't see that for the 5120 x 1440 resolution, I think that's simply because Apple has NOT patched the OS to deal with this resolution, and that's why we don't get the advanced scaling options.
All these superwide monitors are something you buy and then "grow into" as you upgrade. I've had a G9 for 2 years and love it. As I upgrade my hardware, I'll get more use from the features. Older games run great. Just wait until you're on a Nvidia 5000 series card.
My system was already top of the line before I got my first ultrawide. Hardly something that I'm going to grow into. If your system cannot handle 4k gaming, you should not be buying these monitors as your money will be much better spent on other upgrades.
Will I hate myself for taking the plunge on a 3060 Ti? 😂 I have been plenty happy doing 1080p gaming but hate it for productivity. So I keep weighing the idea of getting the G9 for productivity, putting up with black bars or downscaling resolution for gaming, and upgrading my rig to crank more pixels down the road.
You mentioned that you have Sonos. Which Sonos speaker do you have? Please connect your Sonos speaker to your PC and Mac using HDMI. Use a DisplayPort for the monitor and HDMI for the Sonos speaker. Would it work?
Next month will be one year on the 49" Neo G9. Its changed the way I experienced games maybe forever. I know the OLED is supposedly better are far as picture quality but man. I am so happy with the Neo G9. Such an experience.
Your 7900 XTX can achieve a full resolution at 240hz with 10bit HDR because of the connection, but the GPU's ability limits you from hitting those frames. The irony is that the 4090 could generate the higher frame rate, but the display port 1.4a is self-limiting. Cheers for the effort. I suspect the next iteration of 4090, possibly the 4090 Ti, will have the display port 2.1, but we'll see what happens. Cheers, thank you for the effort.
@@Limboinpinbo , In retrospect. The display support wasn't there, and if I'm being fair, so many people are on the LG OLED TV train they probably figured that for gaming, they had till Q2 of 2024. These 4090s are way more powerful when tuned properly; I saw over 150 FPS with quality set to max on 4K on nearly every game I play. It's such a beast at complex AI-driven GPU-accelerated "complex" calculations.
@mrv3509 it's about GPU capability. 4K , true 4K, not 3840, but native 4K uses almost the entire 48GBs on HDMI 2.1 at 120hz his monitor is the equivalent of 2x 4K monitors side by side. Theoretically, I would estimate well over double that 48 would be needed for a full 240
I had my first one die on me when changing resoultion of all things. Completely dead, black screen. Returned it and got a new one and I'm still loving it!
Hmm. I think 2x 34" ultrawide is wiser for now still. Pushing 3440x1440@120 is a sweet spot for gaming without overheating the room and within reasonable budget. Plus bare for sim racing, 32:9 is actually mostly a con, hud excentered, too much mouse travel etc. "Sweet spot" is a real thing an 21:9 is where it's at imho.
I gotta ask.... perhaps late in the day but here goes..... And a Fantastic Review by the way, I really enjoyed it. What made me a little nervous, is that I didn't have any protection to remove from the front of the screen, but did have some protection to remove of the back of the screen - which is weird. I wonder if any fellow owners had the same packaging issues.... I'm nervous that my monitor isn't new.... (I'm now asking this question in pretty much all reviews / unboxing of the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57" - and might decide to send mine back!)
Thank you for the detailed review I currently have the Samsung 49 CHG90 (2021) and I'm considering to upgrading to this 1. Did you notice any health difference to your eyes pain because this OLED might be with less blue lights? Long hours give me eye pain with CHG90 2. Serious productivity difference from 49 inch?
@@PeteMatheson thanks Pete. I made the error of buying 2 Arks but due to the resolution it doesn’t really buy you much screen area. The benefit of the 57 is how much you can get on it but also dual pc input which the gen 1 ark can’t do. Thanks again for the reviews!
I run my 57" as two monitors side by side both at 120hz with an Nvidia 4070ti with no visible line in between, even when I centre a window across the middle of the two screens. I use HDMI ports 2 & 3 for this.
Could you make a video to demonstrate the features of PIP? What's the maximum number of screens we can input at once? Does it support 3 screens or 2 screens
Can someone just make it clear for me because I'm not sure and I was about to buy this monitor. So right now I have a 16" MacBook pro 2019, will it be able to handle this monitor? I mean can I use it with no restrictions like PIP? What cables do I need for that? Another question is - I'm thinking about upgrading to M3 Max, is this one also able to handle that monitor? I don't need 240hz but will it work with full res and at least 60hz on both of these macs?
@darkgodmaster @justintrentini8956 - Yes, I played a little yesterday (had an issue with my mobo, had to rebuild with a replacement for now). I have not played too much but, I had to make sure it would boot before my return date for the monitor. I get around 46-70 fps in cities with a lot going on, 60-100ish in space with not a lot going on. I have not tried bunkers yet. Game settings at 7680x2160 with quality on very high, rest set to high except for scattered object distance, water, and terrain tessellation distance on medium. I did try HDR, it worked and looked amazing! I am not running HDR now because for windows to allow you to turn on HDR all your monitors have to support it. I run a 4k 27in Dell Ultrasharp (60Hz) next to this one that does not support HDR, I had to disconnect it in order to enable it. To me, I would rather have HDR off so I can use the other monitor for hardware monitoring and Discord. 13900k / 4090 / 64Gb DDR5 / Samsung 990 Pro / ASUS Tuff gaming Z790-Plus WIFI mobo (EVGA Z690 Dark Kingpin is in the RMA process at the moment) / custom water cooling for both the CPU and GPU (2 420mm radiators with 6 Noctua 140mm PMW industrial fans).
Great video Pete, I'm hoping you can answer a question for me about the KVM capabilities. When working between two separate PCs in PBP/PIP mode, does the single mouse and keyboard switch seamlessly and automatically, like can you simply drag your mouse across the PBP border and start working on the other PC? Or do you have to hit a button to switch over the Keyboard and mouse input?
Hey! Thanks for watching / commenting. You have to manually do this with the controls under the screen - Unless you install some form of screen sharing software on both machines. Logitech MX Keys & Mouse also have this built in so they can do this with their software between Mac & PC etc - works pretty well!
Please anyone tell me, if we connect two PCs to this monitor, can single mouse and keyboard be used to handle both pcs without any additional button press, in short can curser move from MAC OS at left side to Windows OS at right side?
Great video. I will be getting one to doc a m2 air to 👍🏻

I left it in the previous video without knowing about this one. so I'm putting it here as well: Can this monitor support 3 input sources? I want to connect 3 computers and am considering using a USB switch. What's the easiest way to switch between the inputs? Would changing the input source and switching the USB allow simultaneous access to all 3 computers?
Hey Gaston! Thanks for the comment - interesting question. You can plug in 3 devices, but not show them all at once. Switch using the controls underneath which is easy enough, I guess you'd need to get a USB Hub to switch the devices? Alternatively, I use a Logitech MX Keyboard & Mouse which all connect to 3 devices so I can just switch them at a tap of a button - so no need for a USB Hub if it's just the Keyb & Mouse you're looking at switching.
Hi Pete! Thanks so much for this review. Just curious, what kind of desk are you using? I'm currently considering this monitor and I have a 72" Jarvis standing desk that's starting to get a little crowded with dual monitors and some audio gear - I'm starting to think I need something around 100" wide now! Cheers.
That's deeper than my desk - so I would say yes BUT you may want the desk mount instead of using the stand, since the legs will eat into your desk space a fair bit!
@@PeteMatheson Thanks Pete! I've already got the ergotron hx mount, and it's a game changer. I wouldn't use this monitor without the mount to be honest. That's all I needed to pull the trigger on this one. Thanks for your help!
Just got my neo g9. I ran into a number of issues with the PC not detecting the monitor. The only thing I have found works is plugging both DP and HDMI and then removing one once the monitor turns on. I have no idea why this works.
This mini-LED version is about 90% of the colors of an OLED. The question becomes, do you trade 10% increased color depth for the risk of burn in on a screen of that size?
Why didnt you pair the 7900 with an Ryzen 9 3D? They would have much better combination since they are both from AMD, regardless thank you for the video. I plan to get this monitor in an year or so but I think that something like an 5090 would be the correct GPU to handle this monitor, great video regardless.
Honestly I was originally planning to get the 4090, but then realised the lack of support for 2.1, so just swapped the graphics card out. Hoping to get the 5090 when that comes out. Cheers!
I have m3 max and I got the new 57” Samsung curved monitor how I can get single monitor on my Samsung screen from my computer? And get the full resolution.
The sleep issue is not only on MAC. This happens on Windows 10/11. I have to turn off putting the monitor to sleep, if not when I move the mouse, when the screen turns on, if it turns on, the screen looks like graphical glitches, like I overclocked my video card and I'm getting all these colored lines on top of what's supposed to be the background. Yeah the screen is on longer than it should be some times cause I have to turn it off physically if I walk away or forget, at least its not OLED. When I first saw this issue I thought the monitor was defective but lots of people experiencing and it seems MAC users as well :/
You can get 240hz with DP 1.4 with DSC on most modern Nvidia cards. You need (1.) A VESA certified DP cable and (2.) Make sure 240hz is on in the monitor and Nvidia settings. This whole, only AMD can do it, thing, is wrong. They just have DP 2 ports, so it's native.
What you haven't mentioned, and yes, it is important is why the nVidia cards can't push more then 120FPS, and frankly its a simple answer - nVidia decided not to support DP2.1 on the 40XX cards.
Exactly, is a shame the 7900XTX can only play at that resolution at 240hz with games at low settings. Let's hope next generation GPUs can play at 240hz at ultra settings.
How did you get it out of picture mode eco? I'm using a 2080 Super... Wondering if that might be the issue (Using 2 connections to make the full 8 k res vs one cable)
How did you get it out of picture mode eco? I'm stuck in that mode. Using a 2080 super. I can do 8k 120hz via 2 connections merging to 8k display. But yeah. Can't get out of eco mode.
i bought the 7900XTX and I'm using the proper cord for 4k 240hz and also 10bit is active but now HDR is gone?? Will not let me turn on in monitor settings or windows.
how it performs with MacBook Pro M1 Pro? I am wondering what the maximum resolution and scaling are so far. The monitor would be used for productivity not gaming at all
No card will run this beast on 240Hz. 4090, which is by far the fastest card out there, will not be able to get close to even 100Hz. 7900 is 30% slower so not sure who gave you the specs 😊
7900 XTX is the only one that CAN run the desktop at 240hz and full native resolution. 4090 Might be faster, but it doesn't have DP 2.1. Like I said in the video though, depending on the games you play, it may be better to go for the 4090 and run at 120hz native res than the 7900XTX at 240hz, but bat way lower in FPS.
Well I’m actually surprised cause I can run everything pretty well as long as the game has dlss and specially frame generation on my rtx4090. I’ve tried a few new ones. Red dead 2, battlefield 2042, dying light 2, halo infinite and I can get them all over 110 fps with max out settings. Dlss quality to balanced mode. I think this gpu really hits the Gad pedal when you through at it ridiculous resolutions like this monitor
I have this screen ( got end of August), a 4090 and 7900xtx. Although you can get 240hz with the 7900xtx (nitro+)its not worth it as the card doesnt have the guts for games at this res. The 4090@ 120hz just about copes. Though 240hz in windows is nice and smooth. We need next Gen for this screen.@@PeteMatheson
Hey! Thanks for the video! How would this go with Architecture programs like ArchiCAD or Revit? I’d also be using it for rendering house designs on lumion. I have a Dell XPS17 with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 with 12 GB. Should I also use my dell thunderbolt with this monitor? Thanks for your time in advance!
Been waiting for your response with 7900XTX DP 2.1 ..... Just a point to consider, check out older racing titles like GRID 2 or even GRID AUTOSPORT for upto the max 240Hz with the 7900XTX.
I work with two Mac’s for two different jobs and a pc for games. I’m looking into getting a dock that works with the full 8k resolution and getting more than 30hz. My thoughts are to plug the display port to my PC and use the doc to swap between my two Mac’s. Haven’t found a dock that works with 8k 120hz or greater. But also not sure if this is the best setup for this use case either

I know 🤦🏼♂️ Guess it's difficult to understand until you've sat in front of a curved screen... I guess?
Why would anyone wonder that AMD never been top GPU but the only reason he used 7900 xtx because of display port 2.1
What do you get with HDMI?
I’ve had issues with usb c to displayport cables even with my Mac Studio. Direct HDMI seems to give you the best results
Fantastic video and follow up :)
Thank you!
Great video! Answered many questions I had
really needed content, not much about this types of monitors on the internet
Just the video I was looking for. I was debating on the 49" OLED model or this one. Thanks for sharing.
Very welcome man! Glad it helped.
Which one are you gonna go with?
@@PeteMatheson im thinking the 57”. I wanted OLED, but I like the screen real estate on the G9.
I think it's worth it. A shame to not have OLED, but the resolution is SO useful
@@jspeaksofficialhow about waiting a little, I heard there are bunch of OLEDs coming in 2024.
If gaming go with the OLED model, better picture quality, and lower resolution making it easier to run.
You mentioned that you have Sonos. Which Sonos speaker do you have? Please connect your Sonos speaker to your PC and Mac using HDMI. Use a DisplayPort for the monitor and HDMI for the Sonos speaker. Would it work?
That's exactly what I did with a Sonos Soundbar - It does nothing other than show the visualiser via HDMI. No audio goes through the soundbar.
@@PeteMatheson And the speaker is not recognized as a monitor?
Very comprehensive review of modern day ultra wide, thank you for this
Next month will be one year on the 49" Neo G9.
Can't imagine Nvidia not pushing out the 2.1 as they are looking clownish not having it on the 4090 now when the display got released.
Can’t you just use hdmi 2.1. I get 240 fps at 4k on my Odyssey G8 so it should do it for this monitor also.
Incredible video. Very informative. Thank you.
PiP would be awesome on this if it supported 3 screens and let the user choose some layout presets.
Anyway thanks for the video 😊
Agreed! Not many will do 3 way PIP though :)
The best arm for this monitor is the M VESA Deskmount HD Single 32"-50 they also have a version for dual monitors
Where did you buy it from? Have you emailed their customer service first?
Amazing review, very detailed! thanks!
Thank you for the detailed review I currently have the Samsung 49 CHG90 (2021) and I'm considering to upgrading to this
1. Did you notice any health difference to your eyes pain because this OLED might be with less blue lights?
Long hours give me eye pain with CHG90
2. Serious productivity difference from 49 inch?
factor in leverage for mounts.because its curved.
Awesome vid - I want to double stack these for work and one for trading - sell the Ark
That would be insane! And yeah, so much nicer (imo) than a single Ark.
Very welcome!
Yeah that’s the thing with the Ark and the other G9’s with the resolution.
Glad they bumped it up on the 57” model!
One would expect to get the latest technology, when paying over $1600 for a GPU. I guess I will remain team red for the foreseeable future.
You can use USB-C to Display port for the Mac M2 to get 120hz.
Sim Racers Dream Monitor.
I’ve been thinking about that… not sure if I want another expensive hobby lol
I think I will get the 7900xtx as a stopgap while i wait for the 5090
I run my 57" as two monitors side by side both at 120hz with an Nvidia 4070ti with no visible line in between, even when I centre a window across the middle of the two screens. I use HDMI ports 2 & 3 for this.
love the vid so much info appreciate it
So for the G9s you need the Ergotron HX has to be HX as it the only one that supports the weight of the G9. Currently at £245 on Amazon UK
Yep it has to have the HX/HD Pivot
Could you make a video to demonstrate the features of PIP? What's the maximum number of screens we can input at once? Does it support 3 screens or 2 screens
Xbox cloud works amazing idk what controller you using might need a update. But it works amazing
use shift for a straight line :P
hah! Fair point :D
If you got a 7900XTX, you should have got a 7950X3D for SAM :P bonus performance on AMD cards for free, still great performance otherwise
I love UltraWide concept, but as an actual user of Neo G9 I'd look at competitors next time because of a bit too many issues for premium price.
Brilliant video mate
That's why I got 7900 xtx for just incase I get this monitor
OLED would be great, but wouldn't there be a potential for burn in with OLED?
Can someone just make it clear for me because I'm not sure and I was about to buy this monitor. So right now I have a 16" MacBook pro 2019, will it be able to handle this monitor? I mean can I use it with no restrictions like PIP? What cables do I need for that? Another question is - I'm thinking about upgrading to M3 Max, is this one also able to handle that monitor? I don't need 240hz but will it work with full res and at least 60hz on both of these macs?
How is the experience in Star Citizen and how many FPS do you get?
@@darkgodmaster lol need this answer too
@darkgodmaster @justintrentini8956 - Yes, I played a little yesterday (had an issue with my mobo, had to rebuild with a replacement for now).
@@justintrentini8956 Great, 46-100fps. I just wrote a 10 min comment on this and its now gone.. if you have more questions just ask.
@@itguy5192 I think Pete answered this above… you hav to click or button on n the screen to move between inputs, or get a digital kvm
Great video. I will be getting one to doc a m2 air to 👍🏻
I left it in the previous video without knowing about this one. so I'm putting it here as well:
Can this monitor support 3 input sources?
Great video !!!
Thank you!
Hi Pete! Thanks so much for this review. Just curious, what kind of desk are you using? I'm currently considering this monitor and I have a 72" Jarvis standing desk that's starting to get a little crowded with dual monitors and some audio gear - I'm starting to think I need something around 100" wide now! Cheers.
I also am curious about how large his desk is. 57” screen plus those bookshelf speakers and the rig sitting up top takes up a lot of width I’d bet.
superb video. thank you
Glad you liked it!
Hey Pete, thanks for the follow up! I have a g9 Neo, and my desk depth is 29”. Do you think that’s big enough for the 57”?
That's deeper than my desk - so I would say yes BUT you may want the desk mount instead of using the stand, since the legs will eat into your desk space a fair bit!
@@PeteMatheson Thanks Pete! I've already got the ergotron hx mount, and it's a game changer. I wouldn't use this monitor without the mount to be honest. That's all I needed to pull the trigger on this one. Thanks for your help!
Video editor and gamer trying to decide between the G9 and the 55-in arc
I think not being able to alter framerate when altering graphics settings suggests a cpu bottleneck. Warzone is a very cpu limited game
I just wish I could get 240Hz out of my G9 on the RTX 4090 🙂👍 Still an excellent monitor though
yoooooo i saw the subscribe button do cool stuff when you said to subscribe! that's cool! you got my sub xD
Just got my neo g9. I ran into a number of issues with the PC not detecting the monitor. The only thing I have found works is plugging both DP and HDMI and then removing one once the monitor turns on. I have no idea why this works.
I’ve been thinking about waiting for the 57”OLED g9. If that variant came out would you switch next year?
Heck yeah.... assuming I can sell this one and get most of the cost back. I hope! hah
@@PeteMathesonI don’t know why I didn’t think of that. I’ll likely do the same. Thanks 🙏
This mini-LED version is about 90% of the colors of an OLED. The question becomes, do you trade 10% increased color depth for the risk of burn in on a screen of that size?
Amazing! Thank you! More power to you my guy!
And thank you for watching / commenting! Hugely appreciate you :)
The repair documentation states that HDMI 2 and 3 support full resolution and 240hz but HDMI 1 is limited to 120hz.

Great video, thanks! Have you tried using your BenQ ScreenBar Halo with this 57“ G9 too? Does it work just like it did with the 49“?
The sleep issue is not only on MAC. This happens on Windows 10/11. I have to turn off putting the monitor to sleep, if not when I move the mouse, when the screen turns on, if it turns on, the screen looks like graphical glitches, like I overclocked my video card and I'm getting all these colored lines on top of what's supposed to be the background. Yeah the screen is on longer than it should be some times cause I have to turn it off physically if I walk away or forget, at least its not OLED. When I first saw this issue I thought the monitor was defective but lots of people experiencing and it seems MAC users as well :/
49" is enough, 57" is crazy!
Also HDMI 2.1 does 240hz natively, which all 3000 series cards and up have. I don't think you did enough research for this video...
Can you measure the length and breadth,But not diagonally? and also the length and breadth of your table top please?
Thank you.
Awesom vid
Thank you!
How did you get it out of picture mode eco? I'm using a 2080 Super... Wondering if that might be the issue (Using 2 connections to make the full 8 k res vs one cable)
and what about the panel uniformity ? From what I've seen it's the main issue on these screens
The monitor would be used for productivity not gaming at all
I have the "M VESA Deskmount HD Dual Vertical 32"-55". Not sure if it works for the new 57" but for the old g9 oled 49" it works stacked.

That's what I'm curious about. I have that setup for the Neo G9 49".
I work with two Mac’s for two different jobs and a pc for games. I’m looking into getting a dock that works with the full 8k resolution and getting more than 30hz. My thoughts are to plug the display port to my PC and use the doc to swap between my two Mac’s.
