Mystery of History: A year in review

- This year we changed up our norm of "unschooling" for history, and started a formal curriculum. There are so many options out there it was hard to settle on one, but we ultimately went with Mystery of History.
This is my complete review on how we used the curriculum, and how I implemented it with enrichments for very little cost!

Hint to expedite the timeline process: print the images on shipping label sheets. Allows the kids to construct a timeline, but with peel-and-stick ease.
Interesting! I like that it's is a continuous timeline and easy layout. Luv the pin interest notebooking pages.
Pinterest is a great homeschool resource, especially for visual learners. Have you tried lapbooks? We love them!
I haven't tried them yet though I have kinda of a idea , I just don't know how does it work, gonna have to do some research on that topic. ☺
Love! I homeschool with 4 young girls, and until this coming year have had daycare kids. I will be doing the notebook pages ahead of time this next year to make it easier! Thank you!

I've never used story of the world. But I've never looked into it because my kids don't do well with having to sit and listen for long periods of time and focus on one subject for more than 20 minutes.
I’m still debating , this help me realize I want biblical & wold history together , I don’t want to leave one or the other out! Thank you :)

Thank you for your thoughts. Is it possible to turn off the music while you are speaking? It is difficult to hear and focus on what someone is saying when music is playing at the same time. I hope this doesn't come across as rude. I would just love to focus on what you are saying and not the music. Thank you again.
+Sherri Thomas that you for your feedback. I truly appreciate it. I chose to use soft music on this video because I had animals and children coming in and out. It did help cut back on background noise that I thought was even more distracting. Unfortunately, there is no way for viewers to turn down the music without turning down the talking. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for watching!
We're switching FROM story of the world. It was Christian Neutral I think... It focused way too much on Idolatry and other idols and things, and barely touched on Christianity. So... we are swapping. Just starting so we'll have to see how it works.

I had the same issue when I was in public school, I hardly remember any of it so I'm learning right along with my kiddos lol!

Just for future videos, please consider not having the background music. It’s harder to hear you talking during parts of it because of the music. And it’s very distracting. Thank you for your review. Very helpful and nice to see what you did.

have you used story of the world? wondering what your thoughts on vs mystery of history. we have done sotw 1 but im considering a change.
priscilla shaw ditto. We’ve used SOTW 1 and 2, but it’s not quite resonating with us. I’m looking at other options. It’s just a ton of work and not particularly appealing to my kids, other than the one loves the cooking options, lol.

Unfortunately I don’t. It was a long time ago and we no longer use it.

How do you like TGTB ? How would u compare it to MOH or SOTW , my son is starting 1st grade
If I had to choose between TGTB and MOH, I'd go TGTB. However, we've since switched to Masterbooks for History and that is our favorite.
I was hoping you could provide the link for the MOH Level 1 Middle School pages you used for your older child. I searched an was unable to find the link. TIA.

The curriculum is meant to do with multiple levels. I used it with my kids who were kindergarten-7th grade

We've switched to the good and the beautiful's history curriculum. Mystery of History was wonderful, but the lessons were a little long for my younger ones, and I really wanted to keep history a group subject.

Is this good for people with learning disabilities?
That depends on the LD and the approach used. I have 3 kids with various challenges (SPD, dyslexia, ADHD are our biggest challenges) and while they did fairly well with it, I've since decided to switch to a completely different approach. I now use The Good & The Beautiful, but really only for reference and for the stories. I'm planning a video in the near future about how we do our current history.
Is the GTB Christian based ? Did u like better than MOH or SOTW??
TGTB is Christian based. I preferred it to MOH. I've never used SOTW.
