    I love the new edition! We are combining MOH with Story Of The World this year. I found a great blog post that combines them in order. I really like both and it was hard to choose so I’m so glad I found the post that shows how to combine the two 😉

    thank you for your overview!! i have been struggling to find a history curriculum that can go throughout all the years, cover all the ages, and have a simplistic approach to leave room for exploring and fun! i was only going to purchase the texts and use the code for the companion guides but use at my own discretion. So glad i found this video, you confirmed my decision!!!

    Thank you for showing what the new edition looks like! I’ve heard criticisms with SOTW and I’ve been hesitant in buying it. This new edition of MOH however looks like just what I’ve been looking for as a gentle intro to world history. What ages do you use volume 1 with? Will you continue with volume 2 in the new school year? Does it read like a living book or is it more dry, standard facts about history? My son just turned 7 and I’m going to work on My Story 1 from Masterbooks to introduce him to cultures and geography before I try using MOH in his new second grade yr later in the fall. Are you seeing that they are retaining info or getting bored with it? I like how you do activities with them, looks like fun!

      Glad I could show you more about MOH. 🤗 This year my school age kids are in second and fourth grade (then I have a 4 & 2 year old as well). I find the writing style very natural/conversational. The author asks questions for the reader to consider and points back to scripture at times as well. The MOH is meant to be taught in cycles. So the idea is you repeat volumes 1-4 several times before your child graduates high school. Since this is our first cycle I’m not looking for them to retain a lot, mostly just exposing them to history and making it as fun and interesting as possible. There are plenty of “extras” that you have the option of adding in as kids get older. I haven’t decided what history we’ll be using next year. MOH will be updating their volume two book in the future, so we may wait until they release that down the road. 😊

      @@CalledtoCultivate Thanks for your response. Yes I was thinking of using it as their first exposure to world history and not expecting to retain all of it but I feel it's a fair intro before they dive into it more in depth in 5/6th grades. Do you also use this as a bible study? I was thinking of using it that way too.

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  4 роки тому +1

      Beloved1 you certainly could use it as your Bible curriculum as it gives an overview of the Bible from creation to the resurrection. Right now we are using two devotionals as part of our morning basket. One is “A Faith to Grow On” by John MacArthur. The other is “The 24 Family Ways” by Clay and Sally Clarkson.

      Yes! There are about 30 pages of lesson by lesson book and movie recommendations at the end of the companion guide. 🤗

    Hi there! Quick question. Is this a Protestant or Catholic Curriculum? For instance in lesson 103 (Jesus & Disciples) how is Jesus giving Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven handled?
    Thank you for responding. I gave you a thumbs up 👍

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  3 роки тому +1

      I would say Protestant. Although it may work just fine for a Catholic family as well. The author views God as the ultimate Author of history and reminds the reader how all things are working together to accomplish His purposes. Volume one covers the time period from creation through Christ’s resurrection. I hope that helps! 🤗

      @@CalledtoCultivate thank you! How does the Lesson on "Jesus and the 12 Disciples" handle the giving of the Keys to the Kingdom to Peter? I'm asking because I have to make a decision about this book vs. another history curriculum. Thank you!

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  3 роки тому +1

      I just looked through the textbook and I don’t see any mention of giving Peter the keys to the kingdom. She does touch on the choosing of the 12 disciples and Jesus’ miracles/ministry.

    We are looking into using this curriculum. Does it tell it more like a story (like story of the world) or is it like a dry history text? My kiddos are young like yours. Also are coloring sheets included?

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Shawna, there are many biblical stories included and a few summaries of secular stories/myths. Overall I think it reads more like a traditional textbook, however we didn’t find it to be dry. The author’s writing style is natural and conversational. The lessons are short and usually leave my kids asking for “one more”. There is a digital companion guide code that you get with your book which includes activities, quizzes, tests, etc. Coloring sheets are not included with the textbook, however the publisher does offer corresponding coloring sheets for a reasonable price. 🤗

      We did like the curriculum. I found that I mostly used the textbook and the digital companion guide. If you have little kids, it may be nice to have the corresponding coloring sheets. 🤗 There is definitely the freedom/flexibility to make the curriculum as simple or as rich as you’d like.

    What's the best age range for vol. 1?

    • @CalledtoCultivate
      @CalledtoCultivate  3 роки тому +1

      It’s designed for K-12 and the digital companion guide has activities for all different age groups. I did it with a Pre-K, 2nd, and 4th grader. Doing it as a read aloud with younger kids and doing some fun activities is nice. Middle grade kids can do more of the activities or timeline figures. Older kids can do projects, tests, and write papers on different historical figures. I honestly think it adapts nicely for all ages which is what the author wanted when she created it. 🤗😉
