I tried doing the canopy, I messed it up, cut into it and it went wrong so my batmobile is gonna be a convertible lol

@Ibrahim_M your right there. I'm ok painting the figures but that was on a different level and now I have a batmobile without a canopy, it's not the end of the world lol. Still going to spray it matt and painted the panels on the dashboard, be waste not to finish it

Can I just say, I've gotten a lot of ideas on what directions I want to take my projects on, but I really appreciate that you stopped and mentioned that you too want to quit. That sometimes you get to the middle and the pile of screws and the paint and everything, and you just want to chuck it in a dumpster and collect something that doesn't need upgrading (how i feel). There really is something to liking something, and knowing you want to just make a few updates. I've actually been struggling with my batcave ideas especially the computer. I saw your other video using the kenner computer that there are tons of, something I didn't want to use but seeing how you set it up, gave me ideas on using it as a base for what I want. So thanks Ibrahim.
Thanks so much for saying that and sharing your experience. I relate to the bit about just "collecting something that doesn't need upgrading" so much, haha. Upgrading stuff is where I get the most satisfaction for sure, but like you said, when you're in the midst of the fallout of a disassembly and you've hit peak-frustration, that's 100% what I feel like, lol. I think it's all to important in today's age of faking perfection for the internet that we take the time to share the bumps along the way.
And I'm glad this sparked an idea for the Kenner setup! I wanted to build it all from scratch, but it would have taken an unrealistic amount of time, and I just have too many other things I want to make, so it really feels like the perfect solution. And it's a great starting point for building out and expanding it into something that's a truer 1/12 scale. Have fun and let me know how it turns out!

Thanks very much, and welcome to the channel. Yeah, I was fortunate enough to end up with two after scrambling to find one when my Amazon order was cancelled on me. I had initially thought I'd customize both but this was such a huge project that I decided one was enough, lol. The second went to a fellow collector at retail price, so that's at least one saved from the scalpers.

I’m super novice at this stuff, having just taught myself during the pandemic.
I’ve not done anything on this scale, yet, other than weathering a JAKK’S BB-8….which is only big, not difficult.
My McFarlane is still boxed, but I may do prelim work on the Spin Master Batmobile. I know is smaller and not McFarlane, but if I screw up, at least I’ve done so with a less expensive piece. Then when I “get it” I can move to the big boy and knock it home.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. Shout out to the “I wanna give up” confession as well. With all the crafts and artwork I’ve done, I’ve had so many of those moments. I just have to breathe through it. Maybe for a few days and come back. Glad to see it’s not just me.

I think starting with the Spin Master version is a really smart move; kind of a "measure twice, cut once" approach-- you'll have a much better understanding of the anatomy if this car after working on a smaller one, for sure. Thanks very much! As someone who is constantly seeking refuge in the bits of distraction that I can find (like customizing batobiles, haha) I really relate to, and appreciate that.
Great work on everything, but the chopped canopy makes all the difference in the world. I highly recommend a Rotary Flexshaft tool instead of a Dremel for customizing. It has a foot control and a chuck so you can use dremel bits all the way down to micro drill bits. It is typically used in jewelry making but I use one on a daily basis for sanding, cutting, and drilling. The best brand is Foredom but there are cheaper ones available. If you have questions about them just let me know. Looking forward to future builds!!

Really awesome work. In the end, we all want the Batmobile that speaks to us. I'm currently repainting mine, and it'll probably stay a one-seater for 7" figures, and hey, it might have a comic Batman in it. I don't really care all that much about screen accuracy or even comic-panel accuracy. This is a great canvas to work on. Your approach is awesome...really great work!

The canopy modification you did on yours really changes the look of it and makes it look more accurate because the proportions of the toy car are pretty spot-on. I'm printing a 30-inch 89 Batmobile and the designer was a little bit off on the canopy so I'm doing my own surgery on it to get it more accurate looking. When I get a chance I may have to pick one of these up just to mod it that's the fun part of it! Also this kind of plastic I forgot the the name and type of plastic that is commonly used for toys. I seen a lot of guys that do the mods on the Star Wars Hasbro toys and the paint does not stick to it they have to use what they call adhesion promoter On the plastic and then the paint will stick to it. You did a killer job on this you should be proud of it!

Hey, that's a killer job man. It looks night and day better than the original. I just got one of those 1/18 scale Jada clone types and day-one, Of Course I'm going to disassemble the whole thing. The changes will be repainting the all-silver machine guns, thruster, tailpipes sidepiping etc. Fortunately, I didn't have to build the machine guns but I did have to carefully hollow out the ends of the solid barrels on these tiny guns. After paint (this is my first project), I'm going to add leds and a sound module which will play the sounds of machine guns firing, the turbine, shield operation or anything else I find that works. Mad scientists....

I had thought about just using my timaya mat clear coat , but I'm not sure if I should use mat black first. Usually just customizing gunpla and models so I wasn't sure how the plastic would react with the paint. Your's looks great though!
Thanks! Yeah I wonder if it's a brand thing or if all clearcoat would do it. You can always test it on the inside bottom piece. I should have! lol
That canopy is chefs kiss. I was thinking something looked off about the factory version and it's the slope or lack thereof. You fixed it.
I'd love to play around and see what 6 inch scale figures. Could fit inside the cockpit. I know someone else mentioned the 80th anniversary Mattel batman, that's one I used because I can't afford the more expensive stuff like Mezco. It fit with the Mattel 2003 robin but I didn't customize my batmobile. Too scared I'd mess it up. I just sort of shoved them both in there. It's a little bit of shoulder rubbing with them both in there but it worked for me.
Your piece though is great. Really a museum style replica in 1/12 scale.

There is a 6" Batman figure from the old DC multiverse line, which is inspired by the old toybiz 89 Batman. So if you swapped the head with lets say the mezco one, I think that would work nicely for your now two seater Batmobile.
Also you did a great job with your Batmobile. The paint alone really added more to the flair of the car. If you had like a translucent flame effect for the jet exhaust I think that would look great. Especially with the led light you got going on.
All in all, fantastic job.👍👍
Thank you! Yeah that Batman figure is getting harder to come by, but I might do that! At the end of the day I'm always going to display the figure next to the car anyway, but it'd be fun to pop it in there once and take a few pics.
I totally did that very thing with a 3d printed head. It's a great body. I used the 2003 robin figure from Mattel and they both fit in the batmobile. I didn't customize that though. I don't have the skills this guy has. I'd probably muck it up.

You do it as you see fit, it is yours after all. I gotten the 27 inch Spin Master Batwing I am going to spray paint black the half of the clear cockpit .put seats in hopefully find two to put in. And fix both wings below. I have a few ideas

I see you have the 9mm jewls you used for the tail light lenses listed...will that fit both top and bottom, or will I need a different size?
@@camaroxx1 You'll need a different size for the larger ones, yeah. I can't recall what they were, I think 13mm? The same company makes them. I know I measured and then found the closest option they had. They sent me the wrong ones the first time and I had to return and exchange them and it took an extra week, lol.
Oh man I know that struggle all too well haha!! It's a pain, especially when you are right in the middle of a build and things get delayed, or like what happened with you, you got the wrong size and had to wait a week for the new ones...you get a thought process on how you need to do things in that moment waiting can cause you to forget hahaha. I appreciate all your help man, I was finally able to pick one of these Batmobiles up for a somewhat decent price, so I will be carefully rewatching your vids and can hopefully get mine close to yours 😉.

Very impressive. As an artist and customer myself, this is top notch. If you look closely, this new Batmobile, is actually a midnight blue. I can’t believe everyone is missing this.
Thanks very much! I think the one in the film is still black, I think we’re seeing the reflection of the blue/grey cave set and probably the color grading/filters making it look blue-ish.
Ok that canopy completely changes the profile of that car. Personally id say this is as close to screen accurate ive sen yet!

Thanks, man! They're kind of a mix; they're IKEA Vittsjo shelves, and I had some plexiglass custom cut to fit the front and the sides and then I glued magnets to it. So they look like enclosed glass cases now. The shelves have been out of stock for the entire pandemic, so IDK if they're still available, but you might have luck on sites like offer-up or FB marketplace, etc.

The BAtman is from Mezco, it's their "One:12 Collective 1989 Batman". The Bruce Wayne figure is a custom that I made myself, but the parts are fairly easy to acquire and assemble. the only challenge is painting the head, as it comes blank. Excellent, thanks for your quick reply. The actual Batman figure is the one I like the look of. I live in the UK so it may prove difficult to find here and might need to purchase from the US instead. The Bruce Wayne figure you made up is terrific and I can tell you put much effort into creating him. I did the same many years back for my 1960 Time Machine build and purchased a Rod Taylor head to go on a basic action figure body and created the clothing myself. I sold the figure which I bitterly regret but still have the Time Machine as part of my collection.

I think you should have relative ease finding the Batman figure-- it was a fairly mainstream release and there are plenty available through on the secondary market, so if you can find an ebay seller that ships internationally, you should be in business!

But I’m not on your level yet. So I’m still learning things. How I want them to look. Hopefully I’ll get mine to look like I remember it.
@@Pwg1985 Dude, what you said is such a key point: "how you remember them". It's ALL about how we remember these things! And that's what a lot of people don't understand-- my relationship to this batmobile, for example, is different from theirs, and yours is different from mine, etc. We're all just trying to recapture that magic we felt, and that magic varies from person to person. And really, if you can give yourself even a glimmer of that feeling again, it's pretty damn worth it 🙌 Thanks for reminding me of that!

Daaaamn. That's a clean build! Regarding vacuuforming, it's a PITA. I've done it before for drone work and it takes quite a bit of tweaking to really get right. You really need a non-plastic form ("buck" in the lingo) to get a clean part.
Jeremy! Thanks man. Yeah, ideally you’d make a buck of this out of wood, and this thing has these tab/arm pieces that it needs to slot in place and that would be incredibly hard to replicate my carving/sanding, haha.
Another awesome custom product. Is just ashame that you couldn't put your batman figure sitting in the 2 seater batmobile coz I was really curious on that part actually.

Finally! Looks amazing, brother! When you were talking about the lighting in the afterburner, I got the idea of maybe getting one of those cheap rc cars with the steam that blows out the back that looks like flames, that would be sick if you could make that work in this, I'm sure you could with your knowledge. I know the Spinmaster rc 89 Batmobile that's coming out uses that water mister feature also.
Thanks, man! That would be cool. I'd need to look into how to make one or if it's possible to buy just the steam kit, since the actual spin master version is pretty expensive, haha. But ultimately this is going into an enclosed display case, so I'd have no use for a steam/smoke function. It would cause moisture damage to my other stuff, haha.
