Thanks! I've used it for masking before, but the thing I don't like about it is that it's amorphous, so it's very easy to miss some coverage because of a blob blocking your view of an intricate spot that was missed. Tape is more binary; it's either there or it's not. For something like this canopy it was really necessary to have that level of control that you can get with good tape.

Well done!!! These are all elegant solutions to fix this batmobile. I was going to pass on it. But if I can find one at the retail price, I will follow your lead. Well done. Look forward to the next video.
Thanks very much! Yeah, I think at retail, it only takes a little bit more money, (and admittedly a lot of time and patience) to turn this thing into a premium collectible.
This takes a great level of skill and nerve! Great job! You should have your completed parts scanned, 3D print them and sell the parts to us unskilled dremel users! I know I'd by a set! I've put off getting this because of the way it was manufactured.
Thanks very much! I am actually toying with a 3D scan/photogrammetry app to see if I can get an accurate scan of the canopy. So far the shiny black doesn't pick up, so it's been unsuccessful. And I don't know anyone with a $10k+ 3D scanner, haha. BUT! I have a plan to try to replicate it, so we'll see if I can pull it off, lol.
Wow! Now it looks like the real Batmobile from 89 by lowering and correcting the right height of the conopy! It doesn’t look like the toy no more but more like the hot toys version! Great job man!👌😎👍🦇

Thanks! Yeah somebody else recommended that as well. I don’t know when I’ll ever need one again (I’m not eager to do this again, lol) but now I want one.
Great work. A good way to show these toy makers that some details do matter. Small things like the color offset would irk the hell out of me. Which is why I never even considered getting this version of the Batmobile.

You did a fantastic job and really make a huge difference the canopy and cockpit rework, the canopy reshape alone is great, even more using the original molded piece!!! I think you should buy a Dremel rotary tool and it's different cutting bits/disks and drill heads, it will help you more in cutting and shaping...also maintain more control and work faster. If you did a great cutting job with a hand-held drill and bit...imagine what you can do with more control and cutting/shaping options. Will be in the lookout for this finished Batmobile project, you already hit it out of the ball park with the bases loaded with the rework done to date.
Thanks! Yeah I have 2 dremels, but it wasn’t the tool for this. The cutting wheels would have melted the plastic and warped it, and the speed of rotary tools can cause the attachments to make a bad hop and gouge the wrong spot. Since this was such an experiment (and an expensive mistake to make) I didn’t want to risk those factors. I knew that a traditional drill would give me precise control and that’s what I was after. I also try to avoid the fumes that a dremel on plastic makes whenever possible, haha. Thanks for the kind words! Looking forward to finishing this thing!
@@Ibrahim_M I see your point and respect your preferred choice of tools and techniques, I use my rotary tools in almost all plastics and depending on thickness I graduate the speed, also use metal fine cutting disks or reinforced ones...never the thin brittle paste type cutting disks that break easily and can damage the work/model been done. Hi David! No worries, man! And thanks so much for coming back to tell me about this! I'm really stoked that you were able to find one first of all, as I know they're till kinda hard to track down, haha. I'm glad you gave it a shot and that you're happy with the results! And thrilled to know that you found this inspiring, man. It's why I go to the trouble of filming and posting this stuff, so thank you!
Dude!! I love your ingenuity, skill and dedication. It looks awesome!! Wish I could send you my Batmobile from Australia to do the same custom job! 😂 The canopy gives it much more meaner look. That’s what I loved about the 89 Batmobile all it’s slick lines on the canopy and the front lights are so aggressive like Batman’s deep angled brows on his cowl.
Thanks very much, dude! Yeah, the mean look of the canopy was really important to me for this! It looks more like a mean pair of eyes than a happy "Pixar CARS" version of it now, haha.
Thank you! I've considered it; there are seam lines on the rear fenders in 2 places as well, but I want to avoid repainting the whole car if I can. It feels unnecessary since it's already the correct color, and the seam lines don't bother me all that much considering all of the tedious extra work they would cause, haha.
@@Ibrahim_M I’m with you on that, the lines look natural enough that they don’t deter from overall aesthetics. No need to make unnecessary work for yourself.
Wow!!! The work you done on the Canopy is amazing . Looks so much better. Infact everything your doing is fantastic. So looking forward to when this is finished, great video bud and informative
Thanks! The problem is that a lot of it doesn’t lend itself to recording for a lot of reasons, and also it’s a lot of work to edit down to footage that people ultimately skip anyway (according to UA-cam analytics). Also the videos would just be way too long (which again, people unfortunately don’t watch). So I try to edit everything down to give people the info they need and trim out the “fat” as it were. On this video for example, it’s over 20min long, and the average view duration out of 10k+ views is just over 7min. But I appreciate you checking it out!
@@Ibrahim_M Totally understand. I think I'm in the minority, I like watching some of the work especially the paining process. Anyway, keep up the good work!
@@CharlieChalk9790 Thank you! I'm right there with you; I LOVE process stuff and love to see every bit of it. If this channel becomes a thing that I can dedicate more time to, I might try to do a "Deleted Scenes" playlist of unedited raw footage or something.
Really liked your video tutorial one question can you be specify on the lights u used. There was a E67382 but I got no results on the website. Thank you.
Thanks very much! I'm sorry, this was so long ago now I don't know what I used. But I would have gone by size, and I think I probably used 5mm bulbs. Really, you can use whichever you want as long as you pair the voltage of the bulbs with the voltage of the battery pack.
It's amazing what you can achieve with a little time and a lot of imagination, actually I'm speechless, I'm just enjoying the video. Thanks friend, your channel is pure quality, I'm sure the second part will surprise us too.
Thank you, my friend! I really appreciate that! Unfortunately I think Humanoids' books are only English and French right now, but one of my books, HIGH CRIMES from Image Comics has a Spanish version, but I'm not sure where to find it. I'll let you know if I find a link for it. Thank you, Cesar!
Thanks! It wasn’t flat black in the movie. They used a “flip flop” paint that was mostly black in appearance but changed color based on where you were standing and it had a satin finish. So I’m going to do a more satin finish on this.
That is looking pretty good. I love seeing the inside of the whole thing, it sure helps if/when I get the chance to mod it myself. For the canopy, when you drilled in to cut it, try a jewelry saw. It would have made a thinner cut line and a little more control. And your tutorials are inspirational and love seeing your previous mods and setup in your background. Will be following for more.
Thank you! And thanks for the tip! I have a small hack saw that I thought about using, but it's a little unruly at times and the teeth are offset too wide-- I'd never considered a jeweler's saw. That would probably be perfect. Are the blades easily bent/broken? That would be the big variable, I think.
came across this video randomly. great work! it would really help if you have the SHF Keaton to try out in those seats. I received my batmobile this week and have been tempted to mod it, but I don't know if I want to spent too much time on it. The canopy you made also looks amazing.
I appreciate you checking it out! Glad you were able to get ahold of one-- they've been tricky to track down. This thing would scale well with the SHF version for sure. I have the Mezco version and it has incredible articulation, but there are QC issues so I'm afraid to bend mine too far, lol.
@@Ibrahim_M bought some supply and will work on the canopy first as I noticed something when test fitting my SHF Keaton; there's not enough shoulder room for the figure if the seat is on the side. the side of the passenger compartment looks like will need to be cut out.
@@FrankW1029 I wondered if that might be the case. I'm not planning to put mine in the car, so I'm not worried about it for me, but that's helpful for others to know. Thanks!
It's nerve-racking for sure! If you do it, just take your time and be patient. That's the most important thing. It's really easy to get frustrated with how long it's taking and to feel like going faster and sloppier, but that will only make it worse. Go slow, step away if you have to. It'll be worth it!
Thank you! Y'know, something other people have done (which I wish I'd have thought of!) was to use silver thumbtacks as the gas caps. Kinda perfect! You'd need to make small pilot hole first, or cut the pin piece off and just glue the round part to the car, but they look pretty good and most people have some already, haha.
I'm afraid I don't have another batmobile to use for a tutorial, but here's really not much more to it than what's in the video here. It would just be footage of me sanding, haha. Basically: -After I cut the hole, I cut some styrene to the shape of the hole, then glued it on with superglue/ -I cut a few little tabs of styrene and glued them to the non-window parts of the underside (the middle pillar and the roof at the back) -When that was dry, I used the aves apoxy sculpt (a 2-part compound that you mix together in equal parts and then it's workable for about an hour). You can see it when it's applied in the video it's a stone-grey color. I used a little bit of water on my fingers to smooth it out and try to stick as closely to the shape of the roof as possible. - Once the clay was dry, I just sanded it a ton until it was flush with the plastic and looked as smooth as possible. Then you hit it with a coat of primer to see where the rough spots are, and sand it some more. You'll have to do this part a bunch of times, and it's the part that always sucks the most, lol. -Basically you just repeat that until you get the look you want. Have fun!
What plastic pieces did you use for the headlights? I need to find some plastic for my canopy.. I cut the original out because I made my canopy lower and more screen accurate.
everything your doing looks awesome, and i love watching the project come together (i love watching all you vehicles come together) quick question though; since you dont have access to the Japanese paint they used on the car, and since you are an airbrush guy could you use like a Createx iridescent or “flip flop” paint as a topcoat?
Thanks very much! I appreciate that a lot. Re: The airbrush; I find that it's better for detail work and not large coverage. It's also impossible to get the sparkly bits out of your brush, haha. Both Krylon and Rustoleum make color shifting paint that could look really cool on this, but my hesitation there is that they use pearlescent glitter in the mix, and if you consider the size of a granule of that stuff, it's great for a 1:1 sized car, but scaled down to 1:12 it looks way off and takes away from whatever realism you're able to capture on the smaller scale.
You snapped on your video Great job !! It made me positive to start modding my Batmobile and I started the canopy on my Batmobile today I already cut the middle parts out and sanded down the access & already put the putty on what grid sandpaper did you use ?
Hell yeah, man! That's awesome. I'm so glad this helped jumpstart things for your project. I started sanding with 800, then worked my way to 1000, 1200, and then 2000, I believe. Start with something that will take off the excess but not scratch things too much. As you go to a higher number, dab your fingertip in some water and wipe it over the surface right before you sand, and it will really help smooth things out. Good luck!
That canopy totally changed the look and vibe of this vehicle! Damn dude you killed it, cannot wait for the next video in the series

Hey, I just wanted to offer up a masking tip: silly putty! Much better coverage than any tape can offer. 🍻🤙

Quite a garage collection you have and love all the vehicles you have assembled including this 89 Batmobile. Keep up the amazing work!
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
the canopy is insane, such a great improvement... also looper and edge of tomorrow are personal favs, just picked up retroactive tonight!
Thanks so much, dude! That really means a lot to me, I hope you dig it!
@@Ibrahim_M can't wait!!
It's in parts? Dang, now I have to subscribe.
Haha thank you! Yeah too much info to cram into one video!
This is truly some of the most inspired work I have seen! Plus how you edited it and all the footage you have…. Appreciate it so much!!!
Thank you, Neehar 🙏🏼! I really appreciate that!
Awesome job! Thank you for sharing your amazing and detailed experience!
Thank you very much, Travis!
Dude!! I love your ingenuity, skill and dedication. It looks awesome!!
Wish I could send you my Batmobile from Australia to do the same custom job! 😂
The canopy gives it much more meaner look.
Most excellent work good sir! Have you thought filling in the mold lines where the two fins are to get that seamless feel?
Superb work.
Thank you my friend!
Awesome built, man this is inspiring, hope mine comes out half as decent.
Thanks, man! I hope you have a good time with yours. It's a challenging project but it's fun and the end result is gonna be worth it.
Love your work. Glad to see the channel is growing. Keep the good work.🎉
Thank you, Amir!
Great job and thanks for the inspiration. I’m about to start the same mods.
You're welcome, man. Thanks very much! Good luck with yours and I hope you have a good time with it 🙌🏼
Love the work you're doing! Thanks for recording all and explain how to do it
Thanks very much and you’re welcome!
Looks awesome!
Thank you!
Great work!
Thank you!
Good info, great result.
Thank you! It was harrowing to cut through but I’m glad I did, haha.
love your work bro.
Thank you, sir! 🙏🏼
Wow!!! The work you done on the Canopy is amazing
. Looks so much better. Infact everything your doing is fantastic. So looking forward to when this is finished, great video bud and informative
Thank you so much, Todd! I really appreciate it, man. Hoping to stick the landing! haha.
This is amazing, can't wait for part 2.
Thank you very much!
Great stuff so far! Cannot wait to see the final product. You've got my subscription.
Thanks very much, and welcome!
Awesome to see what you have done so far. But I would like to see more footage of you actually making the changes.
Fantastic video! I really enjoyed it, and I can't wait for part 2 - amazing work 🙂
Thanks very much!
Thanks friend, your channel is pure quality, I'm sure the second part will surprise us too.
friend, one more thing, humanoids is it available in spanish?
Thank you, my friend! I really appreciate that!
Unfortunately I think Humanoids' books are only English and French right now, but one of my books, HIGH CRIMES from Image Comics has a Spanish version, but I'm not sure where to find it. I'll let you know if I find a link for it. Thank you, Cesar!
Totally agree. When you said “Day 2”- I thought to myself “he did all that in one day!?”
@@Ibrahim_M Thank you my friend. humanoids looks interesting, I hope that one day it will come out in Spanish
Looks great! Hats off.
Thank you!
Looking good so far. Should good with the flat look. Like in the first Batman movie.
Thanks! It wasn’t flat black in the movie. They used a “flip flop” paint that was mostly black in appearance but changed color based on where you were standing and it had a satin finish. So I’m going to do a more satin finish on this.
Absolutely impressive work. Well done. McFarlane should of hired you to make this. Lol!!
Haha, thanks so much, man! I appreciate you checking this out!
That would be the big variable, I think.
oh how ive been waiting for this
I really appreciate that!
Yo!! This looks soo awesome!! Much better than what Mc Fairlane toys did. I'm following and just subscribed! Can't wait for the next episode..
Thanks very much for the kind words, and welcome to the channel!
came across this video randomly. great work! it would really help if you have the SHF Keaton to try out in those seats.
@@Ibrahim_M got mine from Macy's when i saw someone posted a link saying they found them at Macy's.
@@FrankW1029 Nice! They seem to be more available now, which is great.
Thanks!
Thanks to you I know what to do to mine. Thanks
That makes me really happy to know. You're welcome!
Going viral on this one bro!
People love Batman!
I watched you rebuild the canopy 3 times, im to nervous to try and do it
It's nerve-racking for sure! If you do it, just take your time and be patient. That's the most important thing. It's really easy to get frustrated with how long it's taking and to feel like going faster and sloppier, but that will only make it worse. Go slow, step away if you have to. It'll be worth it!
Just wow I can't wait for you to be done just wow.
Thanks!
I want to add gas caps to my batmobile, I'm fairly new to customising. Couldn't do anything near to what you've done it looks amazing
@Ibrahim_M that's what I did think about doing, thank you
@@martyh5127 You're welcome!
Wonderful video. By far my favorite batmobile in thr series. You seem overly concerned with recycling
Thanks! Part 2 is hopefully going up later today. We should all be overly concerned with recycling! Haha
Love the video. I was wondering if is possible to make a canopy for the 1989 batmobile from kenner which it has 2 seats.
Thanks! I think it would be way too small, unfortunately.
Great job
Thank you!
This is so good. Great work. I bet many would buy a canopy if replicated and or any other parts that can be replicated. I know I would lol.
Thanks! I'm in the process of trying to see if I can make copies of it for people. We'll see how it goes, haha.
@@Ibrahim_M You're awesome this takes mad skills and you got them fosho!
@@89DannyRaider89 Thank you, sir!
@@Ibrahim_M are you making the McFarlane cowl you used on that custom?
@@89DannyRaider89 Sorry, what do you mean?
Can you do a step by step for the canopy. I want to do the same to mine
I'm afraid I don't have another batmobile to use for a tutorial, but here's really not much more to it than what's in the video here. It would just be footage of me sanding, haha. Basically:
-After I cut the hole, I cut some styrene to the shape of the hole, then glued it on with superglue/
-I cut a few little tabs of styrene and glued them to the non-window parts of the underside (the middle pillar and the roof at the back)
-When that was dry, I used the aves apoxy sculpt (a 2-part compound that you mix together in equal parts and then it's workable for about an hour).
Have fun!
Great job sir
Thank you!
Your welcome sir!
What plastic pieces did you use for the headlights? I need to find some plastic for my canopy.. I cut the original out because I made my canopy lower and more screen accurate.
Nice! Check the video description-- there's a link that'll take you right to it! There's one for the plastic I used to patch my canopy as well.
let's go the goat !!
Haha thank you🙏🏼!!
everything your doing looks awesome, and i love watching the project come together (i love watching all you vehicles come together) quick question though; since you dont have access to the Japanese paint they used on the car, and since you are an airbrush guy could you use like a Createx iridescent or “flip flop” paint as a topcoat?
Thanks very much! I appreciate that a lot. Re: The airbrush; I find that it's better for detail work and not large coverage. It's also impossible to get the sparkly bits out of your brush, haha. Both Krylon and Rustoleum make color shifting paint that could look really cool on this, but my hesitation there is that they use pearlescent glitter in the mix, and if you consider the size of a granule of that stuff, it's great for a 1:1 sized car, but scaled down to 1:12 it looks way off and takes away from whatever realism you're able to capture on the smaller scale.
good job! do you have a link for the seats?
Thanks! I'm afraid I don't-- they were a one-off eBay sale.
Good luck!
Thanks so much sir !! I was able to finish my canopy today I wish I can show you the results it’s awesome !
@@carlosstallion2175 LET'S GOOOO!!! I'm so glad to hear it, man. Well done!
Thanks to you !! But I appreciate it !(:
You should mold that canopy and sell resin copies!
I address that in part 2, actually!
