Can't help but notice the maturity in the players in comparison to today. In fairness...no social media,& the times were much slower.

The problem has been that NBA teams continue to draft and pay million dollar salaries to teenagers. I don't blame the players, it's the fault mostly of the NCAA and their plantation policies and the NBA in their ignorance of realizing that young players simply haven't played enough high level games with vigorous coaching with real critique to reflect the value of their contracts. All the players on this game played at least three seasons of college hoops, if not four. That game experience and maturity leads to smarter and more devoted team play.

~ childhood memories for me. I was born and raised in Baltimore. My pops was a Bullets fan. They used to come back and play a few regular season games every year in Baltimore. The first game I saw live was a “Divisional” game between the Spurs and Washington Bullets.
I was confused as a child.
In fact for a few years before the NBA realigned.

Calvin's only ASG. He was jobbed out of about 4 others(Musberger obliquely refers to this in his intro), this selection was almost a "makeup" because the NBA finally realized how he had been screwed over. He was having a very good year, but he had several others that were incredible and he was overlooked. It's really a shame, because there are people now who like to point out that he was only a "one time" all star and because of that doesn't deserve to be in the HOF. Fact is, he should have been a 5 time AS and was one of the greatest college players of all time. Yeah, it's the "Basketball HOF", not the NBA HOF. Those people can't read, either.

Don't let anyone fool you. This was one of the weaker NBA Era's. However Magic and Larry Legend are about to change things.

I seriously doubt players, like the icemaker, pistol, Dr. J, and Thompson were weaker players

The lack of star power in those lineups is incredible. This really underlines how much trouble the NBA was in before Magic and Bird and later Jordan came along.

come on now- pistol dt doc kareem big e moses and the ice man all had star power... but the nba kinda frowned on the street style above the rim athleticism at that the time- they wanted you to be able to play structured fundamental ball- thats what the 77 blazers/sixers series was all about- in a few more years the nba would learn to market wide open up and down offense. magic and bird both had to sort of coerce their respective teams to take the handcuffs off...

There was PLENTY of "Star Power." I personally think some of the problem was the stale nba refusing to adopt the ABA 3 point line for years after the 1976 (Massacre) Merger.

You compare the lineup of this NBA All Star Game to that of the 1988 NBA All Star Game lineup and you can see how much the NBA grew in just those 9 years.

And anyone that knows history knows NBA of this era was on same level as NHL and maybe even below NHL. The games were on tape delays, mostly gamblers watched and this era the players were all coked out of their mind. It's no mystery that Magic and Bird saved the NBA .everyone knows it

It’s funny that the NBA has placed the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs in the Eastern Conference since they are geographically west of the Mississippi River at the time.

There is such a fight tonmakensure the NBA stencil remains an androgynous body. Watch the next time they show it (if you haven't already noticed), and you will see a *SPLIT SECOND* of girl's hair on the icon before it quickly morphs to a man's head.
