DAMHIK...nylon strings dont work on fretless! Also, fretless is about feel and expression rather than note accuracy. You get peoples feet a-tappin and happiness happens. You are not a concert violinist giving an over rehearsed recital. You are Dr Phoebe giving out your daily dose of banjo, and you have 21.6k patients who are in thrall and travelling with you on this wonderful journey into the mediaverse. You ace it on banjo. You ace it on chickens. You ace it on nodding drinking birds. You ace it on hats. Most of all, you ace it on putting a smile on the face of everyone seeing your vids. Phoebe, you bring joy into people's lives...a rare and precious gift that we all appreciate.
I'm a 62 yo Scruggs style player, and I REALLY enjoy your playing. Also, it gives me real hope to find a (seemingly) wholesome young person as yourself on here showing your talent. I hope when I grow up I can be as talented a banjo player as you are!
When I'm really tired or stressed I just grab my favorite banjo and sit and noodle around, Not really playing songs just searching for different sounds no pressure just me and my banjo.
What a fun fretless Friday! Nylgut strings sound very special. They are best on very lightly built instruments. For a woodtop banjo having a fixed (ukulele type) bridge enhances the unique character of Nylgut. The nut also needs to be modified for Nylgut or Nylon strings as the gauges are very different.
Whatever you decide about the strings I’m sure you’ll be able to get the best sound out of them. Also another pretty hat! Your Grandmother had good taste!
Your slides are definitely getting more precise! I can almost hear your ear yelling at your fingers... "almost... almost.... STOP! " You are hitting your mark much, much more often, and at a much greater rate of speed, as well! You must be practicing in the dark! It sure helps with muscle memory :) I don't know that the nylon strings would work very well with the wooden top. Nylon on a gourd instrument with a skin top would sound really good. Congratulations on finishing Finals. My daughter finished hers this week :)
I just started watching Fretless Friday about 3 weeks ago or so and since then I've heard down to the river to pray on other youtube channels having never heard it before so thank you for that
It just ain’t officially the weekend till I have my Friday afternoon popsicle & soda and watch the latest Fretless Friday! Also: I say try those new nylon strings!
This makes me happy! In case you've forgotten, God loves you. Jesus loves you. On your journey beware of traps and snares. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Congrats on getting past your finals. Your fretless technique is improving by leaps and bounds. I really enjoying watching you play, especially when I see your hands go into “auto pilot” mode and you start to look around, then focus again when the pattern changes. Always fun to spend a sunny afternoon with you in your lovely garden with your friends. Try all the different strings you want - they don’t last forever, anyway. Nice hat!
Friday being the last work day of the week is always nice to look forward to. Fretless Friday makes it a wonderful experience. Keep up the good work Phoebe. 👍💕♥️
The steel strings will be louder than Nylon, or nylgut, I suggest a different medium to lights or vice versa .steel strings it will keep the volume up on such a heavy head as the wooden one. As usual I loved ❤❤❤your choice of back drop the rock wall and the beautiful florals. Yes the chickens were content to stay in the back light for the most part making it was a well balanced ensemble. Awesome Fretless Friday I feel enlightened. Frail on.
I agree with the comment that said play those strings till the wear out and then experiment. You can find UA-cams with banjos using Nylon strings. Listen there first. You sounded great.
You've made me pick up the banjo / guitar again, and also get into a habit of just trying a new song. Wish I could say I had a chicken too :/ maybe if I play more one will show up Anyway thanks for posting consistently, it always reminds me to play if I haven't
Thanks! A lovely mellow vibe to take us toward the weekend. I don't know enough about instruments to offer input about changing strings, but I do have a soft spot for any opportunity to adventure, so if it seems like it would be fun to try something new, do it! You can always change them back.
Doc, you are getting better and better with fretless Bixby! I would keep the steel strings, but that's just me. I like the tone as is. Love you, Doc! God bless! ❤❤❤❤❤
Look forward to fretless Friday. Didn't hear the lawnmower. Old musician advice would be always try new things . Give the strings a try. Keep on shining that beautiful light Phoebe 🪕🕯️
Absolutely try the Nylgut strings. I've used them on several of my older banjos and have never been disappointed. Love tuning in to your sweet little face. Tom in Idaho I'm getting a 100 year old plus 5 string from eBay this week -ish. Nylgut strings are going on it for sure. God bless, stay sweet! P.S. the Nylgut strings will be easier on the fingerboard also. Peace.😊
Great play, Pheob!! Love the chickens when they came into frame, as well... Love the ossias you live in, too. Didn't hear lawn mover at all. The mic also made an appearance! 😋 I'd keep the strings the same... but thou might want to experiment? Congrats of getting through the finals... are they final finals? Nice hat!!! You'll find something matching!!!
Regarding the strings my preference would be that you stay with the wire and wire wound strings typical for banjos. They keep that nice twangy banjo sound. Nylon / gut strings have a much softer sound. Also love the flapper era hat. The mic you're using now is much better than the one you were using indoors. It's fun to see the little windpuff in the top right hand corner of your videos now. Looks like a little caterpillar in the corner. Depending on what recording software you're using, you should have a microphone gain control so that you can make the microphone a little more sensitive. I did notice when you got closer it got much louder and richer. Best of luck and it's always fun getting the daily dose.
In the end, when I want to experiment with aone of my instruments and need to change some stuff on it in the course, I always wait for the moment when I think I've done enough with the old setting. You will feel the point when you really sense the inner move to remove the old strings and try something new. The idea might stick around for weeks until it finally hits you. I wish you continuous joy and fun playing!
Beautiful Playing! I enjoy seeing the chickens come in and out of view! I have 2 pet roosters that I rescued, and they love me to play the banjo for them, they'll crow along!
Had a rough one today at work but coming to this after that is really calming! Thanks for the song, always love the fretless banjo and I am now no longer fretting on Friday
fretless banjo beats the fretful banjo every time. congrats on finishing finals! phew!! couldn't hear the lawnmower. would be curious to hear the other kind of strings too. sounds great!
Thank you so much. I love starting my weekend with you and your chickens. Wonderful song, love the purple hat and the faces you make when you think you hit a wrong note. I don’t hear any wrong notes. You are perfect don’t change. Keep it up.
Didn't hear any lawnmower! Beautiful flowers! Enjoy the chickens. Always a fun time! Thank you Phoebe!!! 80 from Ohio 🐔

Well said
I found her channel a few weeks ago and I get there everyday!
I never liked banjos until I heard Nylon and Nylgut fretless. I'd say it's a subjective judgement.
It's Phoebe Fretless Friday !
or is it Phoebe Phretless Phriday? Either way, her playing and her chickens are a nice way to end the week.
Sounds beautiful!
Just the way you have it.
I'm a 62 yo Scruggs style player, and I REALLY enjoy your playing. Also, it gives me real hope to find a (seemingly) wholesome young person as yourself on here showing your talent. I hope when I grow up I can be as talented a banjo player as you are!
I so love fretless Friday with the chickens! Run your strings till it's time to change then experiment any way you please. Girl, you rock!!!!
Just what’s needed on a lazy Friday pm. Thanks!
I think the strings you are using sound just fine. 👌
New outdoor mic? Yes that sounded good.
Fantastic playing, it sounded great and didn't hear the lawnmower.
When I'm really tired or stressed I just grab my favorite banjo and sit and noodle around, Not really playing songs just searching for different sounds no pressure just me and my banjo.
"Mellow Tonin' "
*snicker*
This has begun a listening tradition for me and I very much thank you
I wanna be just like you. Playing folk music outdoors, surrounded by animals and nature, sharing your talents with the world. Life goals 💚
Good pickin! Think those strings are fine.

Nice way to relax before bed - couldn't hear the lawnmower till you finish playing :)

❤ I’m a banjo player too but not fretless! Love what you share with us!
I cannot understand how UA-cam recommended this channel to me but I take my wins and cherish your music Phoebe!
Thank you for making the world a better place. #DDoB
Phoebe seems to enjoy the fretless banjo ... now I got to go do my practice.
I just started watching Fretless Friday about 3 weeks ago or so and since then I've heard down to the river to pray on other youtube channels having never heard it before so thank you for that

Bardzo ładne wykonanie i bardzo gustowny kapelusz.
It's a fine hat.
People like you give me hope for humanity.
Very Nice and Nice hat you look very nice
Lovely Phoebe, and the chickens make great ambiance!
Your 'outdoor mike' did a great job filtering out the lawn mower, and I like your grandmother's cloche hat, it's a showpiece.
Great way to start the weekend 😊
Phoebe. I hope you know that your videos bring a smile and an uplifting of spirit to a lot of people. That’s a tremendous gift to give. Thank you.
Nothing to talk about - she's definitely in!
Great playing Phoebe!
Pretty hat and cute chickens. And you keep getting better on that fretless. Go Phoebe!
Better and better every time I drop in for a listen.
This makes me happy!

Don’t change anything. Your great just as you are.
I hope you did well on your finals! Love the purple hat!
It’s entirely up to you about the strings. You’ll always do a great job either way and if you don’t like them, you can always go back. Thanks again.
You've made me pick up the banjo / guitar again, and also get into a habit of just trying a new song. Wish I could say I had a chicken too :/ maybe if I play more one will show up
Anyway thanks for posting consistently, it always reminds me to play if I haven't
I was surprised when you said you lived in Southern California. If I had to make a guess I would have said, "inside a Miyazaki film."
Thanks! A lovely mellow vibe to take us toward the weekend. I don't know enough about instruments to offer input about changing strings, but I do have a soft spot for any opportunity to adventure, so if it seems like it would be fun to try something new, do it! You can always change them back.
That hat is really great. And loved the mellow tonin’!!! Friday is good for a chicken&pickin’ day.
The strings you have sound great! I wouldn't change a thing!
finals also killed my brain. i'm in the perfect mental state to sit back and listen to some fretless banjo!
This fills me with the same joy as listening to Mozart You are a gem!

Very nice! I love your chickens too! Ahoy from Australia.
We’re all paying attention to banjo playing. We’re not worried about a fashion statement. You look fine the way you are.
Look forward to fretless Friday. Didn't hear the lawnmower. Old musician advice would be always try new things . Give the strings a try. Keep on shining that beautiful light Phoebe 🪕🕯️
Sounded great to me. Congrats on finishing finals. Also, you look great in that purple cloche hat.

Your rhythm is so spot on on everything you play, awesome

What a nice relaxing looking spot.
That's sweeter than saccharine at a drug store on sale, awesome Phoebe, very professional young lady, keep it real 🎉❤

Very nice!!!
That's very cool girl...keep it up
This makes me want to mow my lawn, but later. Today it is Friday! #bellina #toto
Also I use Ernie Ball brand nylon strings on my uke. They sound great and last waaaay longer than others I've tried out over the years.
Another Fabulous Fretless Friday!
Wonderful! Love the chickens too!

Love listening to the music, love seeing the chickens! Also your outfit is great x
Thank you so much. I love starting my weekend with you and your chickens. Wonderful song, love the purple hat and the faces you make when you think you hit a wrong note. I don’t hear any wrong notes. You are perfect don’t change. Keep it up.
