Nostalgia hits real hard ! :D Now I NEED to loop these bangers in my ears for a while. :D I recently finished this first opus (Architect's Edition, the second) whereas when i was little i could not even pass the room with 1-4 rows of roaches in Webfoot demo (died at 3, while 4 is easy), almost 20 years ago. :'D But AE did not have the original Webfoot OST. Therefore i was craving for the original ! :D Some other post i found first was a little edited in instrument rendering so i am extra happy with this one closer to original. I can alternate versions with mood. :D Anyway banger one day, banger forever ! :D Thx.
Just by opening up the MIDIs with a music editor, I found the names of the music. Main Theme: DROD Theme Level 1: Things Level 2: The Hunt Level 3: More than Luck Level 4: More than Silence Level 5: Water Pride Level 6: Faith, Hope, and Love Level 7: Unknown (not stated) Level 8: Bells of Game Level 9: Stranger in Dark Wingame: Win Game Winlevel: Win Level
Thanks. I also saw the names, but decided against including them since the names don't relate to the levels in any way. It's nice when the midis include names though, it's such a rarity.
I think there is also that in the demo files for the game, the songs may be mixed up? The music that plays in the Level 2 midi file is the music played in Level 3 in game and vice versa. Are the files mislabeled or was the song in Level 2 really intended for Level 3?
Really love the soundtrack of the game. I wish they would include it in the steam version of the game. Webfoot in generel created really awesome music back then.
Level 3 sounds very ominous and makes the mimics seem creepy compared to the monsters. Level 7 sounds pretty chilling with those near-invulnerable serpents slithering to devour you. Level 8 tries to bring some calming vibes while getting frustrated at the incessant tarstuff growing and breeding everywhere, especially the secret room south of the exit with not one but three tar mothers.
I didn't know the webfoot version had two different styles of soundtrack, I think I like the other one better because the percussion slaps, but it's cool that this exists
I did some PCem in-game comparisons and levels 4 and 7 have two instruments that are slightly different than the ones on the video. The main theme also sounds different, although it's as if the in-game version doesn't play as intended due to some instruments missing. Likely due to a SB16 playing the files intended for AWE32. Here's a download link with corrected instruments. It also includes a PCem SB16 recording of the main theme: www.mediafire.com/file/ymgyv8vpkbrma3j/
How can this Drod have 25 enemies? I think the entire Drod barely gets to 25 enemies, I don't think KDD has them alone. Roach, Roach Queen, Evil Eye, Rock Golem, Wraithwing, Goblin, Brain, Rock Giant (not sure if it was already in KDD), Seep (not sure if it was in KDD), Spiders (were they in KDD?), Waterskipper, their nest, Tar, Mud, Tar Mother, Mud Mother, (no Gel yet I'm pretty sure), Wubba, Serpent, Rattlesnake, (no Adder yet I think), Guard, and that's it, no Slayer, no Aumtlich, and if we want to count it, Neather at the end of KDD. It's like about 20 depending on the ones on which I have doubts
I've been waiting for this sound track to show up on UA-cam for years. I had a set of files of the midis on my computer but couldn't figure out how to get them into a video like this. They sound different, though. I recall the demo had 3 different files for the OST. I wonder if there is a way to get them onto UA-cam because I'm not a fan of how some of these songs sound in this format.
How are you playing these files? If you just play them normally they won't sound as they would in-game back in 1996. The game comes with SB16, AWE32 and GUS midis and this video is an attempt to emulate a Sound Blaster playing the AWE32 files. It's not 100% accurate, but the alternative is to either have a SB/AWE32/GUS compatible soundcard or to record every song individually in PCem for slightly better emulation. Here's a recording of SB16 files with the same method: www.mediafire.com/file/0t1550c7pzov3jn/
i don't hear this type of windows midi music anymore now that not only that windows 95 is not supported anymore but my old windows 95 computer has died a long time ago.
I think its really impressive and hilarious that most of these tracks are very sprawling and long. The opening title alone is like a huge ABBA megamix

Hey I also found this! As for level 7 (which would actually be levels 4, 10 and 23), the name shows up as "A Day at the Mad-House"

True 👍
Nice to actually see videos for this game and know it wasn't some misremembered thing from childhood.
I hope someone remixes these for OCR.
