  • This time, I decided to restore a watch that was over 100 years old. It's a well-known Hebdomas 8 Days watch. It was originally designed to be a pocket watch but was later converted to a wrist watch by someone.

    I have a gold hunter version of this watch. Bought it 50 years ago and wore it with a waistcoat for many years - with a gold chain to match. It's in excellent condition and you have spurred me to get it serviced. Glad that you oiled it!

    That should be known as the “Telephone Dial Watch”, characteristic of the design. Somebody of days gone by, got it right, with the angle of the watch on the band. That needs not be newer technology. Very interesting 🧐 music. It almost 😅 sounds like 👍 “El condora Pasa (If I Could)” by Simon and Garfunkel, but different. Merry Christmas 🎁🎄🤶 🎅. Your friend, Jeff.

    I wonder where did the oil go? And also those lines on the movement plate is corrosion caused by fingerprints. To get rid of it watchmaker should use finger gloves. But this is a great watch and needs a real restoration like re polishing the screws and so on.

      I did use watch oil, but I didn't show it on the video, and after fixing it, I used pure alcohol with a cotton bud to clean movement from finger prints, but next time I plan to use finger gloves. Thanks for watching my video.

    I've owned a few of these over the years but at time I wasn't interested (American watches were my focus) they were just part of the deal. I don't think I currently have one in my collection.

    The way he pulls out the pallet fork without letting down the power first, and the way he turn the screw to open the mainspring barrel, and the way he reassemble without wearing finger cots, i think wow! This must be a master. Thats it, im off for a cup of coffee 😬

    • @samakaporkchop
      @samakaporkchop Рік тому

      Finger cots are so overrated, back then nobody had em. A clean work area n clean hands with some sanitizer is better than any finger condom lol n I'm 3rd generation watchmaker. Everything is done by hand, well that's how i was taught, especially when u have to make ur own parts. I wish I was good with the camera 🤣

      I was impressed by how well that dial cleaned up, even knowing it was porcelain rather than paint. And considering those cracks were already there, they actually did a decent job with it. Even in its pre-cleaned condition, this movement must be worth a small fortune.

      @VeganAtheistWeirdo Рік тому

      How did you miss the _puddle_ of oil on the right starting at 12:40? Look at the small wheel that engages with the center wheel. There even appears to be some on the far right edge of the main plate. If anything, this person uses far too much lube as far as I understand from other watchmakers. They just don't show it every time they're applying it.
