Thank you so much for covering us! We appreciate your support!
This is going to be one hell of a realistic game!
Very excited for this and hadn’t heard about it before Gopher covering
Can’t wait for the horse armor 😉
This looks like a great game! VR support? Jk I know that’s too much. But if you could have a version of simlish or random noises when NPCs talk it could be a nice touch. Voice acting sounds like it would be an expensive pain though…
@@kazeryu4834 seconding the VR part. Would love to see this. If even Bethesda can somehow get it to work on Skyrim, it should be possible when taken into account from the start.
Since I know some people won't read the full kickstarter (and will just buy into the hype of videos like this) it's worth pointing out this won't fund the entire game. This kickstarter is just for them to develop the game for a single year, after which they want to take what they have to try and get a publisher to help them finish it. This also means that the scope of the kickstarter is A LOT smaller than the full vision. At the base funding level that means 5 factions, 2 races and 1 world event. Also instead of 500k square km, we're talking 140 square km.
Doesn't mean it'll be bad, but I just don't want people going into this expecting to get a game / the game they're promising, when the kickstarter clearly outlines that finishing the game is not the goal of the kickstarter.
That's the thing, as someone who has had every single player game backed from kickstarter come to fruition, I only backed this as a gamble. This money is not making the entire game and it's only making a game that can enter early access with the hope that they get a publisher who will give them more money. I'd love this game to become a reality but I have large doubts.
that is at least realistic. It takes obscene amounts of money to make modern games happen. this KS to attempt a minimal viable product is at least an honest attempt at something possible.
@@sovrath5735 EVERY KS is a gamble. period.
@@MagiofAsura To be clear i'm not criticizing them for doing it this way, especially since they outline it in the kickstarter itself.
I just bring it up because I worry about people having sky high expectations then being upset when what will be delivered from the kickstarter (even in an absolute best case scenario) is no where close to what they were expecting.
@@MagiofAsura "yes but ..." as I said every "single player game" I've backed, and quite frankly every movie, album, etc has come to fruition. there are safer bets than others. I'm a firm believer in looking at what they show when they make their kickstarter pitch. If they show a decent bit then there is a better chance for it to happen. If they've brought a game to market then that's also a huge plus. In the case of "this" game, they have the experience but they aren't showing a lot and of course they have said they are going to make an early access game. "here's" to hoping it works out.
I misheard "hundreds OR thousands of NPCs" as "hundreds OF thousands" and was kind of terrified.
I heard the same thing and was like yeah... right. Lol
"How would it be if I completely ignored the main quest"
Bro I literally played Oblivion for 150+ hours before I even talked to Martin for the first main quest mission you get as soon as you leave the sewers. Even then after 150 hours it was completely by accident I was just doin other stuff and stumbled into him I wasn't actually looking for him at all.
"To Weynon Priory then."
Daggerfall has been getting a lot of attention from the younger generation lately. I think there's a hunger for the more in-depth RPG mechanics of older games. And of course having it in modern graphics and a handful of "quality of life" adjustments does a lot for approachability.
true... kids are getting into rpgs lately
It helps that the game is straight up free on Steam.
@@henrycase3788 Mhmm that is so helpful
Yeah. I'm old but played daggerfall for the first time recently via the unity remake. Had a blast making a pure physical beast of a character and ripping everything apart right off the bat.
I'm due for a replay. I haven't played DFall since the 90s.
Everyone here in the comments who thinks this "looks" bad, janky or perhaps not up to snuff keep in mind this is PRE alpha footage. Basically this is a base foundation and will be improved upon drastically over the next year or two. If you can please support these amazing developers on kickstarter. Even a $7 (basic pledge) is appreciated and helps.
While that's a valid point, plenty of people have backed games development under the promise of poor graphics and jank being smoothed out in the finished product, however many such products never finished. If it comes out and is a beautiful game with fine polish and refinement, as well as delivering on most of their promises I will happily give them my money. In this economy I can't justify giving money now for a product I may never see.
@Sp4rt4nSl4ya fair point and you are absolutely correct on the economy.
I kickstarted Umbra (Wolcen), and the video showed there was actually better than the real game couple years later.....
Looks way better than Skyrim plus it's not on that old janky gamebyro engine.
@@Sp4rt4nSl4yathere's nothing wrong with not wanting to spend your money on something when you're not sure that it will ever release at a high quality.
I think the OP's point was more that *every* game will look bad and janky when it's in a pre-alpha state and that it's not totally fair to judge the quality of a game when it's in pre-alpha.
Supported at baron level. Whether it achieves it's lofty goals or not, it sends a message about the kind of games we want, and that's even more important.
We appreciate it!
Fellow Baron here also to show support. Life is good!
@@Tw2Brick much appreciated!
They said on their channel in their latest video that they are planning a 3rd person mode, but not for early access.
Mhmm, will probably be a later implemented feature
The one thing I'm curious how they'll implement is the drop in/drop out co-op features
@@TheRealClaylex Co-op is the last stretch goal, so don't back solely on the idea of co-op.
Yippiyy thanks for the news!!
"This decade" is the right term I believe.
Remember this footage is pre pre-alpha to get a taste of their vision
They answered a UA-cam comment asking about 3rd person
They said they plan to add 3rd person eventually but that it is not likely to come during the early access
That makes me so happy, honestly my biggest deal-breaker with Avowed was that, there's no 3rd person
Ah that is good at least. I was a little worried
I never touch any kickstarters... until now. This is my first one, and I'm very glad to make an account for the first time to back this project. Excited to see it develop in the future.
the dark atmosphere gives me a little bit of Enderal vibes, and I like it.
True
Very thrilled about the project, made me back my first Kickstarter campaign. With machine learning having progressed so much since the 90s, I have more confidence in what they're aiming for. Also thank you, Gopher, for shedding some light on Wayward Realms!
they made a great game with daggerfall despite how difficult it would have been with the technology of the time, plus the time constraint they had. Hopefully this time around the technology makes things easier, and that they can really take their time to put everything they want into it.
edit: Also since they know all the flaws in daggerfall they can improve things to remedy those issues, which is something they've talked about. I'm so excited to see what they create.
Looking at the scope of what they are trying, I'm not convinced that they won't have to scale back their plans when the reality of development cycles sets in, but if all it ends up being is a Daggerfall with contemporary graphics, some dynamically generated content and some QoL stuff I'll consider my pledge a good investment.
Don't forget guys, putting a game on your Steam wishlist helps, and even more so if you put it at the top of your wishlist. Free and easy way to help promote a game on Steam.
Did it right after reading your comment. I haven't decided whether this will be the first kickstarter i've ever backed or not, but wishlisting is the least I can do.
What exactly does wishlisting a game do? Is it just a motivational boost for the devs?
@@linkfreak404 It's more likely to come up in the 'Popular Upcoming' section of the Steam store.
@@linkfreak404 Afaik, Steam uses the wishlists to prioritize which games to show to their users, so a game that is wishlisted a lot gets far more exposure. They do this to find the fraction of a percent of games brought to Steam each day that will actually sell. This is, of course, a self-reinforcing effect, or a kind of a self-fullfilling prophecy, which can make the difference between a flop and a huge success.
@@linkfreak404 Steam uses various algorithms to promote games to users, similar to how UA-cam will put videos they think you'll like on your YT homepage. For yet unreleased games wishlist is, probably, the most important factor that decide whether Steam will put the game on the homepage. So, more wishlist = more visibility.
I am going to back this. Wouldn't have known about it without your video probably.
This deserves a segment in "Put this on your radar" in Skillup's weekly gaming news. I grew up on Daggerfall and despite it's jank, I absolutely loved it. Thanks for making us aware of this, Gopher!
This sounds all too ambitious for my liking - however, I'm a lot more cautious with games now a days. I hope the devs can deliver on most and make a great game to challenge these triple A's RPG's!
Cautious is the best mindset to have.
@@OnceLostGames best of luck to you guys
@@OnceLostGamesBest of luck indeed. I hope you guys'll knock this one out of the park. Things are looking and sounding very promising!
Also, if I remember correctly, the devs in the Discord have said that 3rd person support is planned, but likely not until full release.
Thank you for the video. The game looks like a classic old school RPG in the best of ways.
I really hope they prioritize mods for this title. If they can deliver on their promise and give us tools to build on that foundation this could be something really special.
It's been confirmed that they do want to include mod support in the full game!
They plan to. Especially because I've heard some Skyrim modders are involved with this game. I think that's pretty awesome.
I backed up KCD after watching your video about it and the only regret I have is not having pledged more. I love what I see with this game too and have pledged at Knight level.
Even if it doesn't work this is a genre that's worth being encouraged.
I was nerding the fuck out during their recent worldbuilding video where they talk about all the thought that went into their design for lycanthropy, and then (for visuals during unrelated commentary) they show a bunch of illustrations for fictitious (but named) bird species they've developed for their world. Such a dedication for little details meant only to make the world feel more authentic. Their community posts on UA-cam are awesome for the same reason. For me Pillars of Eternity was the last fantasy world that felt fully fleshed-out and authentic, and this is already giving me those same sorts of vibes
The headbob make me seasick, I hope they make it optional.
That will be a slider for sure
definitely will have a slider, and this footage is pre pre alpha.
I supported this kickstarter first thing this morning. Watched a lot of videos about it in recent weeks, the potential is very high.
I've been following the development of this game for quite a while now. Everything *sounds* awesome, I hope it pans out.
What they're promising all sounds great, exactly the kind of game we need more of.
Definitely think there's a danger of being overly ambitious however. No Man's Sky has done procedural generation better than any other game imo, yet even their talented team hasn't implemented half of the dynamic features promised here. And that's after many years of post release development
I'm super hyped for The Wayward Realms. It's super ambitious but if they pull it off, it'll be a legend in Indie development
It’s sounds like the STALKER sandbox experience but built out in a fantasy setting, and that’s going to be amazing
I'd love to support this game. It sounds to me like my dream game.... but I'm also a firm believe or the old style of game development. Buy it when its released and before.
I do wish the developers best of luck and if the game is good on release, I'll gladly give them my money.
You can get the first basic tier for 7$ it help them show publishers that there's still interest in the game idea despite it being so old school so publishers would invest in the game
@@user-ko3fp8wp3t Big publisher's taking an interest in the game would be a Monkey's Paw situation though. Sure, big investment would ensure the game makes release and has good availability, but big publishers hate risks and would push for things to be streamlined and trendy. And while developers could push back on that, ultimately they have to do whatever the person with money tells them.
@@TKDBoy1889 not necessarily, it depends on the contract. some developers get a contract that allow them full freedom on how they develop the game, for example last epoch devs deal with tencent.
@@TKDBoy1889 Reportedly, the devs have already declined offers from big publishers for that exact reason. They said they will not accept an offer from a publisher, if that publisher asks them to change their vision for a true RPG too much.
Yeah the combat definitely looks satisfying, this looks very promising.
The pledge is already at 320,000 which is pretty amazing
Now at 440k.
@@davidmacy411 I know it's going so well to
I can count the number of kickstarters I've backed so far comfortably on one hand, but this one I backed in a heartbeat. Even if they don't reach all of their lofty goals, they get my money for just trying.
Wow this game looks like it has great potential!
Your video back in the day on Kingdom Come Deliverance was actually what got me into backing it. This one looks interesting too.
Thanks for supporting the project Gopher!
I wish Bethesda was willing to make a third party TES spinoff, and that spinoff was this. This would be even better in Tamriel. They could set it as a prequel.
Prepared to take a punt for 40 bucks but "5400 times bigger than Skyrim" & "tens of thousands of procedural generated NPCs" are not selling points for me.
this *sounds* like my dream game. so ill expose my scabs and have faith once more. my first elder scrolls game was morrowind, but i went back and played the previous ones and when i played daggerfall i felt as if the game wasnt so aged and was able to use some of the brilliant recent tech we now have, it would be as close to a "perfect game" as i could imagine. im actually excited by there not being a "main" quest since, depending on your character, the *most* important quest to YOU would vary.
i wish Once Lost Games the very best and i look forward to seeing how it turns out.
We are halfway to the minimum goal. Go there and support it, even if it's for the free tier.
The last game I supported early was BG3. This one will also be a banger, though I expect it to take awhile.
I would read much more into the Kickstart before you tell others to support it. BG3 was much simpler in the fine print while this one does NOT. the funding is only for a year of development not for the rest of its development until release. they expect to be picked up by a company to have them spend a majority of the chunk of money needed and that will take a much longer time than anyone would expect. this is more of a buy the game early and show us you may want the game or not so we can get show proof to a big company for money
@@frappy0 Funny how that is barely mentioned in the video and in the comments.
This looks janky as fuck and I absolutely love it!
Third person is planned, just not for the early access build.
I backed this project, very hyped to see the future of The Wayward Realms 💜
Just backed this kickstarter, had this already wishlisted on Steam. But thanks to you my eyes were opened to their kickstarter. Much love
I'm going to back it. My first Kickstarter backing. My only concern is if I'll still be around to enjoy it once it's ready. Better chance than TES6 and FO5 I suppose. lol
...And the writing and world building will be of WAY better quality. Bethesda is incapable of that anymore.
I backed it too! Their vision is very appealing for RPG lover!
I heard that Early Access could be within 2 years, a full release could be 2030 at latest? We have to wait and see what the dates will actually be.
As far as I know there are plans for 3rd person!
It's mentioned as something that will be implemented some time after the early access release.
i dont care about ANYONE's past glory. i get it. amy hennig did uncharted. she also did forspoken. Chris Roberts did wing commander and now he is in charge of the ponzi schemed circus that is star citizen. Rocksteady did the arkham triliogy, and they also did suicide squad.
Okay, you got my attention on this project. I will monitor it for a while and see how the development comes along.
4 years to get to this point? KS to get to a playable demo, to get further investment...
I'll be very happy to support this game when it arrives.
We'll see who releases first: Elder Scrolls VI, Ashes of Creation, or This...
Or Star Citizen! 😂 (I'm kidding!)
To be fair most of the 4 years was in pre production and with a very small team of volunteers only, now they actually have the money and can go into full production
They are describing a very interesting game in their pitch. It's also a game I've heard described many times on Kickstarter.
Never seen it realized.
I'll keep them in my radar, but I'm not buying the pelt until they show they can catch the bear. Right now I'm not all that confident a bear that big even exists.
Ohh I like that proverb - I may have to remember that.
@@knicknac95 It's a slight riff on an Italian saying: "To sell the bear's pelt before having killed it."
@@Poldovico Oh hey, we have the exact same idiom in Danish. Neat!
We say the same saying in Spain.
I think the closest we have in Britain is the old "Don't count your chickens before they hatch".
I backed this. They just got their Kickstarter goal and still two weeks to go. Let's hope they succeed! Looking forward to this.
Kickstarter is slowly creeping towards it's 1st goal. Hopefully they get there as this is a really exciting project. There's mention of co-op in the stretch goals much further down the line which to me sounds awesome! Huge grand rpg exploring with your mate/s
cant wait for this game. I think i will make this my first time ever kick starter.
I hope they can get to the 1 million bucks mark...so that it will have 9 factions.
I have pledged, i hope this game makes it.
That project sounds amazing, let alone the VGM the Virtual Game Master, makes it enormously interesting in my eyes! Its the next step into an fully immersive experience.
Big channel coverage!! This is great!
One of only a handful of Kickstarter projects I've supported. It would be awesome if the Kickstarter was successful enough for them to get further funding from a publisher to really see their vision come to life.
Glad to see this game getting covered. I've been a huge fan of Daggerfall since the Unity version had its full release, and seeing this game get developed by the same people who led the development of that game gives me high hopes.
This looks right up my alley. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! I'm in !! Also, the consequences bit... Halsin flashback from Gophers BG3 playthrough hahahaha....
This seems really ambitious, and basically exactly what I want to see more of in the gaming industry!
Thanks for informing me about it, I backed the project ;p
I've been following these guys since the project was first announced. I'm hoping to be able to afford to support the Adventurer tier. These madlads already have dynamic tides in the game based on the moon phases.
This looks pretty good! I've put in my pledge; looking forward to what they put out there
Im glad to see more coverage of this game. I supported and cant wait to play the early access.
Nice to see you behind this one! I hope this meets its goal.
2:40, didn't they show off third-person footage in the first gameplay trailer? I distinctly remember that. Specifically they were showing it off with an Orc character
That was an in-engine trailer but not a gameplay trailer. We do plan 3rd person, but it is not implemented yet.
@@OnceLostGamesI love how in 1st person you can see your character's body & feet.
seems really promising! and something i'd love to watch gopher specifically play
No voice lines = more dynamic dialogue and opportunities for dialogue.
WHen the game comes out, I bet everyone will have already seen some gameplay from early access twitch streamers and that will boost the sales a lot. It might also boost the sales is they sell the game at 15% off for the day of release only. If it is good, I WILL buy it. But I dont trust kickstarter stuff. I never lost stuff because I never use it, but I have heard of some real bad video game rugpulls. I really hope this isnt one of them, but there is always a chance.
Good luck to the devs, this is gonna be some real hard work (as you already know), and please remember to stay hydrated and fed! How can you program if you are malnourished or dehydrated!
I've been waiting for another game like this since Morrowind came out. Oblivion and Skyrim work decently once modded but man I have not experienced a game with this kind of combat and story telling goals in forever and I am here for it. Literally yesterday I was complaining about this to friends and around noon my phone notified me to this game being announced and I was like holy crap it's finally happening.
Ah man, ive been burned on so many kickstarters. But id like to see this concept succeed.
Thanks for shining light on this project.
I've had this game on my radar for some time now, but Kickstarters are always double-edged dagger.
Head bobbing is evil
this was what TES was originally aiming for, hopefully the tech has caught up to make this game what TES was supposed to be
Way to go Dude, I noticed this in Steam a while ago and it's been on my wishlist. Damn Skippy I'm supporting it, but I would never have known without the heads up.
Note: They said in their discord that they aim for eventual 3rd person, but it won't be an early phase objective.
Backed it!! :) hype is real!
wolfheart has an interview with these guys - very interesting
Jwlar does too
Many have, my favorite is their interview with eso(danny)
Y’all at least go check it out, we haven’t had a game like this in 30 years (since before I was even born lmao) it could be the greatest fantasy RPG of all time, and we need a good elder scrolls alternative since Bethesda only wants to give us a (dumbed down) release every 20 years now
The promised scope is massive. I truly hope they can deliver.
I've never been interested in main quests. Fascinated by this project. We will see!
Enderal is the only good elder styles game main quest
Pledged! I've been having my eyes on this game since Camelworks did his interview with Ted Peterson, but I wasn't aware that they were doing a kickstarter. Happy to support such an ambitious project!
Sounds very interesting, though I've become wary of unfinished games. I can't afford backing it anyways, but I've subscribed to their channel and will keep an eye on their progress. I like the ideas, but I've heard similar stuff too often in the past. That being said, they gave us actual gameplay, and it looks promising!
What we saw is only an early prototype (NOT even close to Early Access), so we shouldn't linger on details just yet. Still, it looks great for a prototype that, if funded, they will polish and complete for an Early Access of what will be the "starter island". What is interesting is the game design or game systems they wish to implement, to create a modern take on the Daggerfall genre.
AYEEEEEEE TY FOR COVERING THIS BRO
I appreciate you @Gopher!
It sounds too good to be true. I might sign up for the kickstarter, i hope they can fully realize it
I believe they said they were using the money from players to build a version that they can then present to investors so they can make the full game
Hopefully they don't go to Microsoft or Sony.
It will be for both investors and players who supported them with 40$ and more
I appreciated your comment that voiced dialogue was probably not going to be in the final game, but you were hopeful it would be. I also prefer voiced dialogue. That is my one complaint so far with this game, which I am supporting via the Kickstarter. I'm hopeful that mods will cover voiced dialogue, particularly AI mods. In a year or two, the AI technology is going to be outstanding and I have no doubt that we will be able to voice thousands of NPCs without any voice actors.
As of this comment, they are at 426,000+ on the goal after a week, I feel like they will meet their inital goal and hopefully show backers this is something people really want and a great business opportunity.
I also reall want to start an adventurers guild and have a small army of NPC's fighting in the wars and defending towns, and clearing dungeons. Dont know it that will be possible but I hope it will
This game sounds like it will be awesome if they pull it off, but they apparently have 40 staff and are only asking for $600K. That's not even enough to fund 3 months of development at an average of $100K per developer. Doesn't really make sense to me. I'm going to wait until it releases.
Once Lost Games needs to partner with streamers who are into this genre to get the word out about this game so it canbe 100% independently funded !!!! So we gamers can show AAAstudios that if you make the games we want it'll be worth their while . So long as this game stays away from woke funding , it should do well in terms of sales. And yes I am backing this game at the 40$ USD level .
Thanks!
Damn, this look freakin amazing! cant wait :)
Now taking bets on whether we see Wayward Realms or TES6 materialize first!
If I remember right, they will implement 3rd person but not now, probably later in development either during or after they possibly garner more funds
Another stealth archer sim? Count me in!
Daggerfall gave me an immediate love of open world RPGs.
