Oh, I am one of those crazy CMDRs who made their T7 into a bounty hunting T7 for the angry trader vibes. And the T8 will more heavily armed than the T7 making the T8 offensively more capable than the T7.

Seems like the T8 will be a perfect mining ship
only one medium hard point means you have to use the 5 small hard points. Small mining lasers knocks off small rocks which will /should net you less refined total tons per asteroid. I'll be sure to try and compare it with my type 9 and python MK1. The distributor size will definitely influence my choice to use it as a mining vessel. The 406 ton cargo for a medium ship will defiantly help with accessing outposts for their commodities.

Hoping it’ll have a good jump range for exploration with full engineering. Also hope something akin to the Osiris paint job comes out for it, maybe even a survey ship kit.
Not perfect hardpoints, but it may be passable. Would have been better with 2 mediums. However, a size 7 optional internal is great. I may consider a mining variant just for that.
The perfect mining ship is and always has been the cutter.

I'm planning on making it into a psuedo-Millennium Falcon ship myself. So freighter/smuggling. Sounds like fun tbh.

The 1 medium HP feels like it was made so you can core mine in it, and that’s what I’m be doing by the sound

Fdev clearly thought that the original plan to drop Indra on Indrapendence Day was too good to not happen so they fluffed the stats a bit.
You mentioned that the demo of the Type-8 didn't include any sound effects or engine sounds. The good people at Galnet News Digest stepped up and added their own. Worth checking out! 😅

This will be a buy on day one for Arx ship for me, Always been a Lakon fan, love the T7 as well. :)
I don't mind the Type 7 not being a medium ship, but I'd like if they bulked it up so it would fill out a large pad better, maybe extend the wings, fix the heat issue, and expand the cargo space just a smidge.
Glad I got my prismatic shields recently before the update. I really hope the new update doesn't make powerplay more grindy.

@@Dr_Tripper Nothing changed with the prismatic shields. However, FDev has been working on an "overhaul" of Power Play. The details haven't been released yet. I'm not too optimistic about it. They increased the cosmetic items, like paint jobs and ship kits by so much that I won't give them the benefit of doubt that power play won't get harder.
from the look of were the hardpoints are located it could maybe be made into a sweet bomber but if that works or not will be seen :)

i can definitely see the type 8 as both a mining ship or even a supporting combat ship
the type 10 is almost certainly going to forever be the king of "this area is now ours, go away" but having a type 8 jump in and act as a small artillery type ship could also be useful
on other hand type 7 fells like ends up has even smaller niche as being just cheap large pad bulk/passenger transporter, since Type 8 is capable of actually outperforming python cargo wise while still using medium pads.
I'd love to see system settling in this game. Powerplay could add community goals for delivery of building materials to a in-system mega ship, which when the goal is reached would add a mining station or a "construction platform". That, tied directly in to powerplay would be neat
T8 looks great. The engine-ship connection looks a bit weak. Well, maybe we’ll have pod racer moment where the engines snap off and fly off into space. 😂

They usually have medium to large update just before Christmas holidays. I could imagine that when the new feature and ship will come out there.
May look sexy on the outside but it's the inside you will be seeing the most, and that's a boring old Asp cockpit with the same old orange we still can't officially change......

Just give some skins worth buying. I'm just demotivated from playing when I have to wait for the ship because spending 20 bucks isn't worth it for a singular ship I get early.
The chieftan came with fully engineered drag drives. Will the t8 also?
I am going to make a VERY wild prediction, or two, and say that the new feature will be inline with the last of the new ships as either;
1 - An entirely new class of ship (Tiny or Huge).
2 - A new Fleet Carrier and a Fleet Carrier overhaul.
It could also be something like able to walk around in ships and the new feature is something like "boarding" ships and fighting inside ships, where you can only board a ship that has its shields down.
Those are my wild guesses at least. As for the Type 8: i dont have a dedicated mining ship yet so i might just kit it out for that once normal players can get their hands on it rather than going the pay to win route. Same as I been looking forward to the python mk2 but refuse to do the pay to win stuff.
As for the two new ships I am going to guess that since we got 2 medium ships they are either adding 2 small ships next or they are doing as I guessed before, add one small or one large and then make an entirely new class of ships.

ED needs at least 2nd save option like many other games
Numbers I threory crafted from coriolis... 406T max, 404T w/planetary(most likely as C1 slot gets locked out), 388 w/Shield and planetary. Beats Python, Clipper, T7, and Beluga. In terms of Cost, Your looking at a range of 22Mil-78Mil possibly. I would hedge bets on the side of the 40Mil plus. Math is (ship cost / ship max cargo X 406) using the T7, Python and T9 respectively. 5x1 HPs w/ a C4 distro is within the ASPX ability. This should act as a step up from the ASPX for mining in that regard. Jump range will probably be anywhere from 25-30LY before engineering, 43-48LY one jump max with 350/400T hull weight.
I really dig the design of the T8. I hope other new ships will be as impressive.
I'm currently 4 for 4 on Titan takedown participation, soon to be 5 for 5.
As for the T8, I'm thinking of building one for cargo, and one for passenger missions. Having an upgraded alternative in non-combat trading over the Python is going to be quite welcome in my fleet.

Ok, Powerplay 2.0.
For this to work, the way Frontier want it to, there will have to be some major changes to the way we play the game. Changes that, potentially, are going to be devisive, I mean, how do you make Powerplay 2.0 meaningful in the current setup; Open, Solo, Private Groups, etc. I read a comment recently that suggested areas of the game will be restricted to Open players only? With FDev clearly steering Powerplay 2.0 towards more PvP I fear that Open will be the only way to play the game after September.

The Type-8 looks to be a solid addition to my 'Ground Attack' portion of the fleet. I would have liked to see them mention a fighter bay (for additional defense against ships and for scouting occupied bases), but I know I can't have it all. Also, if the Booze Cruise was ever to restart, it would be an immediate game-changer. I'm looking forward to all the additions and changes over the next six months.

Does anyone remember their ship types from the Wing Commander Series way back in the 90's was it? I look at the type 8 and immediately what hits me is the Dralthi class ship from Wing Cmdr! Just thought I'd mention that.

Guesstimating 350/400 hull weight w/ C5 FSD..... 20-30LY w/ a max of probably around 45-47LY.

FDev really needed to retcon the T7 onto a medium pad, because even more so with the T8 coming out, it is useless. T8 is medium pad and has 100T *MORE* cargo capacity than T7, so why on earth would anyone use T7 now?

can't wait power play 2.0. Type 8 looks amazing. I recently bought Python Mk2 and I love it. SCO is also amazing upgrade to this game. I think I will buy early access for Type 8 too as I want to appreciate dev team for their work. Indeed next half of the year will be very interesting in Elite.

So I’ve bought the DB and basic Mark2 with ark. I’m noticing I get interdicted more often in the prebuilts. Anyone else? I’ve opted to not using them.
I don't think I've gotten interdicted at all yet in my Python Mk II. I've gotten hyperdicted a couple of times, but given the systems I was jumping into at the time that wasn't unusual.
If the Type-8 is not a combat ship, why have most of the hardpoints in the front if you are trying to escape your foe?

I haven stopped playing ED, the grind was simply monotonous and I am bored waiting for Panther Clipper to arrive - cargo and trading was the best part of Elite in its original form. I am curious if the 2 new "unannounced" ships will fill the void, but until it is - I am just keeping a watching brief. If Frontier approached this differently, I wonder if they'd attract back any players who invested a lot of time (and money) in the game.
Lets guess the price. My guess is 37 million.

@viking_zero the only thing it needed to beat in terms of cargo was the python lol job done and then some. Any bigger and it would be a medium pad Anaconda with even more unicornium for a hull.

@viking_zero if we ever get a panther clipper, that one will be the behemoth to beat out the cutter. Gotta keep the balance. Each reduction in pad size brings "roughly" 1/3rd the carrying capacity of the max ships. Cutter>Python>Cobra Mk4, for example. So 400T medium means a 130-150T small and a 1000-1200T large.
Looks horrendous, as per LAKON standard, but at least the space dads have their medium trade/miner.
Yeah, the "shoot me here" bubble canopy is a very hidious design. I'll still pick one up in preparation for PP.2 but i suppose not every ship can be beautiful.

I went into the Void soon after Titans came. And I'm 1000ly yet before my destination. Then I need some time to jump around. I think 10-15 more additional Titans would allow to me to try last one :D .... Also, it looks like that new T8 could replace my T9 on carrier refuel in the Void.

Frontier thinks that creating a new ship and changing powerplay will breath new life into the game... I think it's insulting that they are putting as little effort as possible to improve the game while they falsely try to magnify their lack of effort as major changes... 💥
So while hey are introducing new ships and at least 2 new gameplay loops they aren’t proving the game? Hilariously weak comment.
In just one year, introducing the option of pre-built ships, introducing 4 new ships (each one seems to have a different role), the new SCO gameplay option and the change it brings to the day to day movement within the systems, completely changing what is probably the most long term gameplay mechanic such as Powerplay, and introducing a completely new feature, is not giving a new life to the game...
I’m at least hoping that it will cost less than 30 mill credits 😅 for the barebone ship I mean 😢 not the stupid arx one 🥲
