Well, Shannon, it turns out that your videos are just what the doctor ordered for this crisis of March 2020. I've started re-watching with this one and plan to go through a whole bunch of them. Thank you for being such a voice of calm, reason & humor. Of course you couldn't have planned it, but it turns out that your whole attitude is a perfect antidote to the fears and uncertainty we're currently facing. And yeah, I'm doing a lot more crafting with magazine pages these days!!
I tried this in a fabric arts magazine, I picked up at a thrift shop. I got inspired after watching DeDe. I need to go back to it.........my attention span wanders. You were the first Tube video I ever watched. I started art journaling because of you, and have followed you ever since !! Thanks, Shannon !!

The way you have done the dry brushing makes the pages look painted. I love the look of your reverse collage, I think you have found your stride. This is the prettiest mag I’ve ever seen sence I was born my name is hummer so I’ve been collecting humming birds all my life and had racks of this magazine but sadly thy all went to the dump when we moved here. . 😩😫 so Iv never bought another . I’m just sad my husband just passed away last year after a magical 40years. He Love them their magazine s and bought me every one of them their. He also made jewelry and made lots of hummingbird s. I need a little bit of humming birds I’ll get back in the grove soon

Just found this video.....how awesome. I have a small collection of Bird and Bloom.....but I usually fussy cut the birds. Great idea. Also, it might be fun for the other book, just add something odd to the hands. That's what I do if all I have is a hand. Keep on crafting.

Awesome Shannon! I love this magazine. The images are always so gorgeous. I had a subscription so yes, went and pulled one and put on my table so I won't forget. Definitely my next project. I started one with different magazine and stopped because I wasn't inspired by the images. This magazine always inspires me and I can't believe I didn't even think of using it. Hi Shannon it's an old video but I just wanted to say that I found a video where someone did something similar (regarding the binding) You simple drill 2 wholes along the spine on the outside of the magazine and thread a shoe lace through and tie a bow. Because the magazine is now stable you can remove pages or glue 2 together. It's simple and it works. My magazine is really chunky now but it holds up. Hope this is helpful.

What lovely bird "reverse collages!"
One thing I like to do is to color copy (like at Staples or Kingkos) the images I love, so that the original stays intact. Or, you could even color copy your collages for other projects!

I have some old Smithsonian, Audubon, and Nature Conservancy magazines that should be great for this technique. Love your pages--they're gorgeous!

I've been wanting to do some reverse collage but the added "collage" part left me hesitating & unsure, so thank you for sharing this method. This way could be a jumping off point for some people or just the alternative we needed. And I love my water soluble oil pastels & I don't see them used enough so that was an added bonus!! thanks so much, kelli

Shannon, this is a great idea, using a Birds and Blooms magazine for reverse collage. I buy these at the library for five for a dollar and plan to use them but it's hard to pick a side to use so I mainly stack them up. This technique would let me use both sides.
We've recently got a new Ollie's near us which I am loving! I love the price of books there and craft supplies. I recently got a 24 pack of Mead oil pastels for S3.99 and this will be something good to try them in.

I love photographing flowers -- whether in my small container garden, while walking...
This would be a great technique to use with them.
Also, Photomania, and Photofunia are free (no registration needed) photo editing sites that you can alter your photos with.
It would be another way to use and alter your images.
Feel very inspired by you! Also like when you say you have a "fail" and you sound like you're ready to giggle!
It's always good not to take oneself too seriously!

Oh Em Gee - so many enthusiastic comments I want to add as I too am enjoying my reverse collage mag - BUT thought u'd get a kick out of my late night brain: near the beginning, when u say how your friend gave u the mags because she has a bunch of back issues, I thought, "what's the connection between a sore back and generosity?" 😄😄😄

I have really enjoyed using your magazine paper paint/collage technique. There is just something satisfying about it and the papers are my favorite for bookmaking and collage! This is beautiful, I love it. Must put this technique on my list of to dos =) Had to share this to Friendly Junk Journal People =) It's a great way to use the book/decorated pages in a junk journal and add your own hand.
