Damn I live in Britain too and I've even stared at the sun. One time it was bright red and the sky smelt like the sea. It wasn't as bright as usual so I could just stare at it. It was beautiful. Wish you could have seen it :(
I was given this puzzle about 10 years ago, and I still keep it on my desk at work. Even though I have solved it many times, there is still a zen-like quality to doing it. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of this.
I remember this puzzle from my childhood! My grandparents had all kinds of puzzles and games in their house, and I used to spend all of my time there playing with everything I could get my hands on. Looking back, I'm realizing most of the games were educational or helped development of coordination/reasoning, but at the time they were pure fun. Thank you for featuring this puzzle on your channel, it brought back some warm memories.
I absolutely love these sorts of puzzles. I used to play Unblock Me on iPhone which is basically the same as this puzzle. I played through thousands of them.
My uncle made this puzzle himself some 40+ years ago and it's still in the living room at my grandma's house (unfortunately couple of the pieces are missing). I never asked where he got the idea, but I remember playing with it as a kid (we made the missing pieces from cardboard).
I cannot say about 40, but I knew this puzzle 34 years ago. I played it on paper, and I also wrote a short BASIC program to play it. In later years, I've had both windows and Android versions.
I also remember it from my childhood. I had a plastic one where the "sun" piece contained sweets that you could only access if you managed to get it to the bottom. I think that the pieces had interlocking ridges on the sides so you couldn't cheat by removing them arbitrarily as in this one.
I also made my own version of this some 35 years ago. It was desribed in Finnish play/puzzle book "Antero Vipunen". Made my version with Lego bricks and it took me while to solve.
I used to have this puzzle on my iPhone, but unfortunately t's not working anymore in IOS 11. It was also called Setting Sun. I remember it took me much more moves then you just showed. I bought some puzzles at SiamMandalay as well. I can recommend them to anyone.
Loved to see you have some mistakes made. It shows the human aspect of Mr. Puzzle. It also helps us understand where and when you had difficulty. Very good puzzle. Great video!
When you look straight down at the puzzle it's an interesting example of orthographic perspective. the circles on the blocks look boot protruded and recessed at the same time.
Don't need a hammer. This puzzle doesn't have Anti-Cheat program installed. So you can just "hack" the game and remove pieces. Therefore, an axe is required.
I used to have the puzzle... 35 years ago... I got it as a birthday gif when I was a child... and after 35 years I stil remembered how solve it... btw... it was in Chile! Where I live! Regards!
exactly as they are both sliding puzzles, though I did find the car puzzle more visually pleasing then the dots. on a frame. leads to more challenges without boredom. I have most of the card sets- this setting sun is more closely related to the "safari" themed sliding puzzles, also by think fun.
siammandalay has so many versions of this same puzzle, I have the golf one, where instead of a sun piece, there's a white ball in the large square and a hole at the bottom where the ball can come out.
The best general strategy with this type of puzzle is to get the smaller pieces next to the piece you want to move so that they can 'flow' around the object piece like a thin fluid.
I like these kinds of puzzles. There's an online game called Klotski. It is a collection of puzzles like this arranged in order of complexity and difficulty. I solved a lot of them, but I eventually get stuck. It's frustrating at times.
This puzzle was on the SNES game "Lufia 2: the rise of the sinistrals" there was 4 treasure chests on the big piece and was able to do it when I was a kid back then :D
That is an old American puzzle used once by a furniture company. The puzzle pieces were representing furniture, and a piano. The object was to move the piano out. Probably from the 40s.
I have this puzzle, only it's called escaping jail. One thing that you don't show is that you can turn the cover upside down and place it under the puzzle so that the slot in the cover aligns with the slot in the base.
I count 112 moves in the included solution - I can do it in 100 moves. I had this puzzle as an old PC program, and I solved it years ago. Of course I couldn't remember my solution, when I bought this very nice wooden version, following one of the links in your description (by the way, it arrived surprisingly quickly). But after a little struggle I found it again, and then - only then - did I check the “official” solution. To my surprise I found that my solution has fewer moves and is, I think, a little more elegant. But now that I think of it, I seem to remember that the PC app gave the fewest possible number of moves as ninety-something (94 maybe?), and eventually I did work it out back then, but I no longer remember how.
Oddly I played this almost exact same game in a video game form on the BBC Micro, it was called 'cark park' and had these pieces as cars trying to get out of the car park in question. The game can be played on the bbcmicro dot com website still.
I remember a version of this puzzle being available in the UK where the "sun" contained a few sweets (candies to you Americans) and you had to solve it to get them out.
There was a game for Windows 3.1 named Klotski, in which you had to deal with much more complex versions of this puzzle! Good days =) By the way, great channel!
It looks a lot like Klotsky(?) and old Polish game adapted for Windows, some decades ago. That game had a lot of different levels/initial configurations. Some toy company sold the game as 'traffic controller', shaping the pieces as cars, trucks and buses. In all cases the objective was the same, remove the 'master' piece from the frame...
The puzzle has some disputed origin. In China we call it "hua rong dao" which is a mountain pass which the general (the big square) had to escape the enemies blocking his escape path. read more en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klotski
_This block is a 2 by 2 block._ _This is a block._ - points at a 2 by 1 block - Well, yeah, it's a block :p You're not even wrong XD Your maths just amazes me XD
There used to be a whole series of puzzles like this called "traffic jam". I loved it as a kid, but when I just downloaded the app I found that (like all phone games now) it's made boringly easy..
Or buy Traffic Jam, which is a cheaper plastic version popular in the US that comes with dozens of different puzzle cards for different setups. There's lots if other versions too.

Interesting. I live in Britain so I've never seen the sun

Lmfao
Some people go their whole lives without seeing the sun... I am one of those people 😫😂

Phillip Ech , try the onimusha series for ps2 ;)

I played it when I was a kid too. About 20+ years ago.
I also remember it from my childhood. I had a plastic one where the "sun" piece contained sweets that you could only access if you managed to get it to the bottom. I think that the pieces had interlocking ridges on the sides so you couldn't cheat by removing them arbitrarily as in this one.
I just made a practice version using the Draw function in Microsoft Word. Just had to turn on Snap to Grid to keep the pieces "on track".
I also made my own version of this some 35 years ago. It was desribed in Finnish play/puzzle book "Antero Vipunen". Made my version with Lego bricks and it took me while to solve.

There is a game on the app store called "CrossFingers" that has loads of similar wood sliding puzzles.
Thank you very much! I will definitely check that one out. Kind regards.

Oh my gosh. This brings back so many memories. I used to have this puzzle as a kid and I loved playing with it!
Great video as always! I've always enjoyed slider puzzles
Glad you like it!
Loved to see you have some mistakes made. It shows the human aspect of Mr. Puzzle. It also helps us understand where and when you had difficulty. Very good puzzle. Great video!
I love these puzzles. I used to do them all the time on the computer
I've never tried a puzzle, but your channel is very entertaining! Keep up the amazing work!!
When you look straight down at the puzzle it's an interesting example of orthographic perspective. the circles on the blocks look boot protruded and recessed at the same time.
i was going to use a hammer but your solution works too
Hammers are ineffective against wood. Use an axe instead.
depends on how hard you hit, doesnt it?
Thanks Jesus
I think the pieces are removeable.
Don't need a hammer. This puzzle doesn't have Anti-Cheat program installed. So you can just "hack" the game and remove pieces. Therefore, an axe is required.

I don't usually like sliding puzzles but this is a nice one.
It reminds me of those old school number puzzles as a kid where you have to line up the numbers in order from 1-9 by sliding them. And sudoku.
This is a good one to make out of scrap wood if you are a carpenter. Made many like it for my nephews.
That's another cool one, I like slider puzzles.
Reminds me of the game rush hour.
exactly as they are both sliding puzzles, though I did find the car puzzle more visually pleasing then the dots. on a frame. leads to more challenges without boredom. I have most of the card sets- this setting sun is more closely related to the "safari" themed sliding puzzles, also by think fun.
A modern version (plastic) of these slider puzzles is RUSH HOUR.
This is also available in wood.
I like this one. Putting it on my Christmas wish list!!
I keep finding new puzzle videos I haven't watched
siammandalay has so many versions of this same puzzle, I have the golf one, where instead of a sun piece, there's a white ball in the large square and a hole at the bottom where the ball can come out.
Yes, we have many variants of the Klotski style :).
I have played similar sliding puzzles on linux myself so yeah you can get digital versions quite easily if you look online.
The best general strategy with this type of puzzle is to get the smaller pieces next to the piece you want to move so that they can 'flow' around the object piece like a thin fluid.
Watching the solution in double speed is hilarious. Thanks :)

A plastic version of this puzzle was available in Australia mid to late eighties, when solved would dispense small sweets.
love this puzzle!
Hi, and welcome to another episode of Mr.Puzzle.
That's a really nice puzzle.
This one I'd have constant fun with.
That is an old American puzzle used once by a furniture company. The puzzle pieces were representing furniture, and a piano. The object was to move the piano out. Probably from the 40s.
Thank you!😁
That was good I had a feeling that the yellow ones were going to surround the red one when it came out

A beautiful puzzle.
I have this puzzle, only it's called escaping jail. One thing that you don't show is that you can turn the cover upside down and place it under the puzzle so that the slot in the cover aligns with the slot in the base.
Isn't there an entire family of puzzles like this? something beginning with K? Kolstky or Klotsky or something like that?
AlucardNoir yes Klotski puzzles
I had an app on my phone that was basically this concept! was very frustrating at times lol
Klotski! I love it!
NOW I REMEMBER!!
This is the reference of the puzzle of this from Clubhouse Game DS!!
great vid! i think i'm actually gonna buy this puzzle
Have fun with it!
6:54 is why it's called the setting sun. The yellow are the rays of light coming off of the sun in the last move.
I count 112 moves in the included solution - I can do it in 100 moves.
I had this puzzle as an old PC program, and I solved it years ago.

I've trimmed my solution to 97 moves, but I think it can be done even quicker.
💚 I want this puzzle too! 💚
😭😭😭
This reminds me of Klotski, I used to watch dad play that on windows :)

I havent done many puzzles but solved it multiple times 1 out of 5 for difficulty... maybe 2 but 5 of 5 for entertainment
Amazing. Extra good one. Is there any application for labeling the colors as their enumeration? Yellow = 1, etc. Thank you
If you've ever played Professor Layton game, you would know this sliding puzzle by the name 'Princess in the Box'
This is Klotski, you can find its history on wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klotski
Brilliant!
The puzzle has some disputed origin.
In China we call it "hua rong dao" which is a mountain pass which the general (the big square) had to escape the enemies blocking his escape path.

Great videos! :)
Thanks! Enjoy!
I wonder what the sequence would look like in numbers? Very interesting.
_This block is a 2 by 2 block._
_This is a block._ - points at a 2 by 1 block -
Well, yeah, it's a block :p You're not even wrong XD Your maths just amazes me XD
It is a traditional Chinese puzzle called Huarong puzzle game.(华容道)
Lagoon games has this puzzle as their logo. :)
This puzzle was a secret puzzle in lufia 2... I freaking realized when I saw it.
great video like always 👍
There used to be a whole series of puzzles like this called "traffic jam". I loved it as a kid, but when I just downloaded the app I found that (like all phone games now) it's made boringly easy..
This is essentially klotski. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klotski
That one is easy, sometimes i find 3/5 easy af, sometimes i find ut harder than 4/5
I’ll stick to playing unblock me on my phone, it’s free and there’s over 1000 levels lmao
Love your intros
A symmetrical puzzle should be able to perform the moves but starting with the left, and not the right
Or buy Traffic Jam, which is a cheaper plastic version popular in the US that comes with dozens of different puzzle cards for different setups. There's lots if other versions too.
It's called rush hour over here. Got it already.
That’s a cool puzzle
Love your videos, so relaxing!
Thanks!
Looks interesting
This puzzle was in Lufia 2. So frustrating.
Great Video ! I like shifting puzzles
Thanks!
The ISIS Orb is still unboxed!
There is a free puzzle app for iPad called CrossFingers, this puzzle is level 6, number 26.
It reminds me of the 1-15 sliding number puzzle.
these type of puzzles prevent me from finishing professor layton
I have to say, that puzzle looks like unblock me free game
Can you rearrange the pieces and solve it in different ways?
sorry for bad english. xD
Are the colored portions of the pieces indented or raised. I just bought one and am very excited to receive it.
i remember this puzzle in a game called lufia 2.
I luv you mr puzzle
Are there lots of ways to solve
It’z Timps because earth is flat
took me years to solve this as a kid.
Reminds me of the hardest Puzzle in lufia 2
Classic Klotski puzzle
This puzzle can be easily built with lego, no werid shapes.
Solution: Simply take out the yellows and blacks, and let the sun go thru the gap, no problem!
The rule says no taking out pieces!
Screw rules
Thanks, great video as always. But the beautiful looking puzzle is sold out already :(
Majles Blue we just put back in stock
