      Well to clarify for all three of you. Lead was used commonly in pencils from conception, when the effects of how poisonous the element was, was learned then the switch to graphite was made. For exact years I suggest further research. It is highly unlikely to get lead poisoning from the modern day pencil. I can not say absolute certain that it is impossible, since I do believe a small portions of lead are still mixed in for some reason.

    There is a trick to the last part. Once the two dots are aligned, Invert the puzzle so that the Revomaze logo is pointing down and tilt the puzzle about 45 degrees so that the main body is lower than the center shaft. Now, while holding the shaft, gently (sometimes harder) tap the main body on a relatively hard surface like a carpet or piece of wood that you don't care about damaging. Once the pin becomes loose, the center shaft should slide right out. Hope this helps and that the explanation wasn't too confusing.

      @ipissed 7 років тому +9

      A high speed metal cut off wheel, or angle grinder with a thin cut off blade for metal would be correct. Using a Dremel would be more dangerous than handy for something this size as they tend to break off disks on deep cuts. Diamond blades will cut metal but they heat up quickly and the heat ruins the diamond bond which strips the diamonds off, ruining the blade.

    This is a good puzzle and it's a progress based puzzle so a logical approach, exactly like the way you planned it, guarantees succeeding at it.
    I don't know how soon you considered using calipers and measuring but I don't think I'd have thought of it until later on after a few steps and then coming back to it later as a solution always comes to the calmer mind.
    The longevity of this puzzle would be vastly improved if it was made in a way that there were changeable puzzle sleeves that fitted the inner core and could be swapped out or even exchanged with other people who have a different puzzle.
    If the longer and more difficult puzzles changed in direct response to your actions, that would be a great feature.

      Nope. The desmodromic hub operates on the gears of gearshitf. It´s not a free piece as into this video. If you shift wrong, the gears can be damaged. You can move the desmodromic to increase and reduce your gear speed with the clutch. But the operating mechanism is totally similar.

    This would be a nice project to see if you can control a small motor with an Arduino or some other controller to move the shaft really fast and solve the puzzle. Imagine a computer algorithm that could come up with that map in the same way that the micromouse contest cars solve mazes by trying all possible routes. It will do all turns and pulls trying to memorize which was the map that worked.

    As far as I understand, the pins are not spring loaded. Would it be possible to escape a trap by holding the puzzle‘s axis vertically and spinning the barrel in order to move the pins out of the trap by centrifugal force? Also, if you hold the barrel horizontally with the pin axes parallel to the ground, there would be no force to pull any of the pins into a trap, no?

    Try using centripetal force to spin the pins outward and release. When you’re at the end of the puzzle, don’t spin the inner maze core, spin the entire large cylinder (as one piece) by rolling it like a baker’s rolling pin on a table. Rolling/spinning it really quickly could spin the pins outward and release them from the center cylinder. Just a thought. I’ve never held one of these, so I have no idea if this would actually work. Also, maybe put a little WD40 on the pin holes so they slide in and out more easily. It shouldn’t ruin the puzzle, as the pins releasing the inner cylinder won’t open it without the maze being solved (I think).

    • @erigobelli
      @erigobelli 6 років тому

      You mean centrifugal force, which is outwards. Centripetal is the force towards the center.

    Solved it years ago and then found one on display in a store and opened it pretending I had just seen it. Freaked out a bunch of people. It was a fun "mental model" experience.

    I think you're meant to spin the puzzle at the to put both the pins in their slots.

      I thought the same at first but the pins have to go in not out, so using centrifugal force to move the pins won't work. You need to align pins with the holes in the shaft. One of the holes is slightly larger than the other. Get the pin to fall in the smaller hole first, then turn the cylinder just a fraction of a fraction of a millimeter so the one pin won't fall back into the outer casing and the other pin can fall into the other hole. Then pull the whole thing out.

      Centrifugal force literally does not exist

      No one said it existed. It is an outward force apparent in a rotating reference frame. I.E the force that would be felt on the pins if you spun the puzzle around like a top/centrifuge. It does not exist, yet it can be measured.

      lilypop! He means centripetal force.
