How The Bad Batch CHANGED Kanan's Order 66 Tragedy - Star Wars: The Bad Batch

- Star Wars: The Bad Batch released not too long ago, and with it were thrown right into the tragic and heartbreaking moment of Order 66 once more. This time however, we experienced that dark day from the perspective of the bad batch, who were assigned to Jedi Padawan Caleb Dum, who later went on to become Kanan Jarrus, and His Master Depa Bilaba… Although, we had already seen their Order 66 experiences in the comics, and a lot was changed.

So, lets break down all the changes between Star Wars: the Bad Batch episode 1 after math, and the Kanan comics.
So, to star off, the Kanan comics begin with Caleb Dume and his Master Depa Bilaba making a final push for the capital of Kaller, which is being protected by Separatist General Kleeve and droid forces. Caleb and his master begin ripping through battle droids across the rocky, dry stuface, and charge towards the capital without hesitation.
This is obviously a star difference to the bad batch interpretation of the event, where the planet is snow covered, and things are moving pretty slowly. On top of that, instead of being on the offensive, General Bilaba and Caleb posted up inside of a trench waiting for their reinforcements to arrive, not moving at all, and actually are having the Battle droid forces storming towards them, exactly the opposite of the comic.
Now after this, there are some more minor changes which are pretty weird and completely break away from the comic. The first is that the Clone Troopers of Depa Billaba battalion are wearing Red in the comic, and each have some pretty unique armor designs.
CC-10/994 or nicknamed Grey had a really awesome red trimmed armor design, with some cool unique patterns, along with a red painted helmet, and was even allowed to carry a blade on his back, which was a true sign of his independence and his General’s trust in him.
If we compare that to version displayed in the Bad Batch, he was given the very standard Phase 2 armor of a Clone Commander, which was painted in a very dull green. Awesomely, they did keep his helmet design mostly, but instead of being red, it was in the faded green.

I'm sad that in the comics, Caleb/Kanan doesn't find out about Grey's sacrifice.
I've seen some people that the comic is more of a flashback being told by Kanon/Caleb.

a lot of these changes were definitely really surprising and I'm still very mixed on them, but I think it was done to get the main bad batch characters a proper introduction in the show. I'm guessing this whole scenario we redo a lot before we got the final version. just a theory.

I wish that at the very least they kept the command structure the same as it was in the comics then the clones from the comics wouldnt have had to been retconned. The rank of commander in the GAR has multiple sub-ranks. Caleb could have been a marshal commander and grey could have been a regimental or battalion commander kind of like how things were in the 41st with luminara, barriss, and commander gree
I think this just once again shows that Disney and Lucasfilm aren't as set on having one canonic version of events like they once were and that the movies/shows will take precedent over comics/books.
If you’ve read the Ahsoka book, this has already happened too. Not too bad; I can always look past it. I tend to think of the books as the way certain characters remember it. Like the Ahsoka book how she remembered it at a specific time

According to CBR, "In 2020, Star Wars The Lightsaber Collection quietly changed Billaba's lightsaber color from her standard green to blue. This was based on designs from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where she carried a blue blade, and the book included text confirming the color. The written and visual declaration has left no room for confusion in the future, as shown in The Bad Batch. But Billaba's color change also speaks to the larger saber color conundrum the character has gone through over the years." Another change was the hilt, in the Kanan comics, it looked exactly like Kanan's lightsaber but with a green blade. But now, it has a different appearance in the Bad Batch.
You could say the Bad Batch revealed the truth, from a certain point of view

All I have to say is that these characters are Dave Filoni’s, and he can do whatever he wants with them to tell a story. I liked the kanan comic and the Ahsoka book, but I’m glad that Dave went back and adapted them for animation in CW S7 and now The Bad Batch.
You can say they’re his characters but it doesn’t take away from filonis disrespect for existing stories and characters. He’s the equivalent to Ryan Johnson to me; Johnson took Luke skywalker and changed him to something completely different. Filoni did the same countless times to grievous, dooku, quinlan vos and so many others. Now we see more from his lack of respect by retconning existing canon (the whole reason Disney got rid of the old eu was to get rid of conflicting stories). Filoni cares for only his own story and vision (which is often underwhelming), not for the collective narrative that Star Wars is meant to be.
The one thing that bugged me about the recon was the SNOW!! Also it didn't answer the question of how did Kanan get the holocron seeing that in the comic his master gives it to him.
She may of given it to him, in the movie/tv continuity.
tbh the changes they did where no big deal the only change I disagree with is deba lightsaber color she looked better with a green saber instead of a blue

I feel like they shouldve add the bad batch to do that mission, then caleb and his master would win as shown in the comics, in the meantime the bad batch squad is on that same fight but on a different area, then order 66 happens, they dont know whats going on but from affar they look the little caleb running and master depa bilaba dead. Then they go look for him and it happens the same on the show. (Maybe something that caleb didnt recall on the flashback). Honestly i feel dissapointed on that matter, it ruined me the first episode, LOL.
It was not that hard, now they changed the comic version, and im feeling like why bother to buy the comics if theyre going to do whatever they want and make them not canon.

Is it possible Kleeve’s story could still be canon, I mean technically he could have already retreated before the Bad Batch started which would leave that part of his story intact right?
All they needed to do was put Grey and Styles there, looking like they did in the comics. At least give us fans something to piece together the disparate, incongruous parts. But no, they just ran roughshod over it, because they do not care in the slightest
I think they should also have the commander gray's redemption story, with a few changes as well. First I think the bad batch or rex would have removed his chip and have him return to his duties just to see how his mind would act. And I think Gray would die in a way that reflects what I think killed Vader... remorse. I also think clone trooper stance should be in. Like he might be MIA for some reason and was out of contact when order 66 came.
I believe what in the Bad Batch is how Filoni envisioned how it played out and I think Kanan will reappear for the clones to explain the inhibitor chips to him.
The comic is amazing, i hope they change the bad batch version one day, is free to dream #badbatchwithoutcaleb

I really dont like that they changed this for many reasons one being it confuses the storyline and makes you wonder whats next. Also people spend serious money on these comics. They aren't cheap. Now my copy just another part of star wars that dsnt matter. They need to stick to a storyline no matter what. I am totally understanding of going to a new canon and creating legends when Disney bought star wars but now is the first kanan comic legends or something else?

That’s because the Bad Batch didn’t exist until the Final Season of The Clone Wars, Kanan The Last Padawan were published on 2015 and The Bad Batch came out this year: 2021

@Caleb Bradshaw some fans didn’t like the idea of Disney owning Star Wars, if wasn’t for Disney then Star Wars The Clone Wars Season 7 would never happened, so I’m happy Disney own Star Wars, they made Star Wars great especially Marvel

Kanan was a young biy at the time, a child.
His story as told in the comics and as told through the rebels series was how he experienced it.
now a child can expereince an event and remember it slightly differently than how it actually transpired.
Maybe we'll see captain grey in his red armor in a future star wars show or sometime in season 1 of the bad batch or season 2 when thire dies or gets demoted or retires

No, the only person in the current Jedi order to have a purple lightsaber was Mace. It was never stated she had the same colour saber

It’s still canon in general, so if anything was shown/told about Revan in THR, then it’s officially canon until/unless it gets retconned/retold in those other mediums or other books. Don’t get me wrong tho, completely fine to have your own canon/headcanon and all that, I’m just saying it technically doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. The story is as the story goes.

What I meant is that there still isn’t enough proof to convice me that he is properly embedded into canon yet, I wish there was because I love Revan, I grew up playing KOTOR 1&2 and yeah I’m pissed off that Disney did what they did to the EU but if you’re going off of the new canon, well then you have your answer as to if he is in canon, not yet.

I don't think they're going against Green Lightsabers. I don't think the animators nor Dave Filoni knows Kanan's Master from the Comics already had the Green Lightsaber when they're working on the Bad Batch series.
They definitely have been actively working to erase the green lightsaber. It can't be a coincidence that only jedi with blue lightsabers appeared in Season 7 and Ahsoka was randomly given blue ones herself. Retconning Depa Billaba with blue only drives home this theory. Perhaps the animation team is having trouble implementing green lightsabers for whatever reason or Disney themselves have mandated a preference for blue in animation and live action?
I don’t think there is any harm in having two different continuities, one exclusively for the comics and one exclusively for animation/live action. Dragon ball does it, so why can’t we agree on two different continuities for two different medias?!
I didn’t like this show’s portrayal of Kanan and his master. Because it only a cameo, we didn’t resonate the way we did with them in the comics or in Rebels(as minuscule as that may have been)

So basically the book was better. The Bad Batch gave us a downgrade in quality.
They decanonized the entire Expanded Universe because it was too inconsistent and full of crazy bad ideas, then proceed to do the same thing all over again, smh.
I'm definitely not a fan of the changes to be honest. The original comic was really good. I hope that they re-retcon it to make the Jedi in the Bad Batch episode two completely different characters

WHO CARES.... Comics are inconsequential anyway... no one cares about the comics... and if you do... accept that they are NOT the priority... OBVIOUSLY... don’t expect the movies/shows to restrict themselves to ‘fit in’ with stories and lore told in a comic😂😂😂
If the show could improve upon that scene, i don’t people would be raging as much, it’s mostly because the show gave us a inferior version.
