Nice collection. Always loved the film about Rogers Rangers starring Spencer Tracy (though those "Robin Hood" hats!) and of course the modern version of "Last of the Mohicans" with Daniel Day Lewis.
the French troops with Red and Blue toques (knitted hats) and others who wore White are not Couriers de Bois but are the local militias raised from Quebec, Montreal and Trois Rivieres. Now offhand, I don't remember which wore which colour but the toque colour signified where they were raised.
Know what you mean about the Conquest range, I've painted a bunch of their New England Indians alongside miniatures from other ranges & there is a significant difference in size. Like you say though, once they are in action on the table you tend not to notice.
I've always found the discrepancies in how various manufacturers define scale frustrating and try to stick to one manufacturer for a particular project (usually unsuccessfully). It was interesting to see these figures and hear your comments on scale. You mentioned the head size, and this was referred to by the figure sculptor Geoff Solomon-Sims recently in one of his UA-cam videos. Figures began as 25mm but then, in order to make it easier to give them more character, some sculptors increased the head size whilst leaving the body size the same. This they chose to describe as 28mm. However normal human proportions give the head one seventh of the height of the body and also the size of the hand should just about be able to cover the face. This meant that the hands looked too large for the figure and figures then began to appear that had correct proportions, making them taller than the original '28mm', hence explaining scale creep. I noticed that there seemed to be examples of all these types within your armies.
It can be really frustrating but I guess I’m pretty lucky that I can just shrug my shoulders and get on with it, but I know other players can be more concerned with keeping everything on the table looking the same. Northstar miniatures are probably my favourite followed closely by Galloping Major but if we saw a real life person with the dimensions of those miniatures we would do a double take at their massive heads and hands and thick bodies. They’d look like a shorter Andre the Giant.
Lovely collection and my favourite period. I just started looking through my FIW collection last week and have now gone back to painting them. Galloping Major are my favourite and the range which I have most of so I look for others to fit more with GM. AW Miniatures are great and match perfectly and they have plenty of Regulars and Grenadiers for both sides. Most of Redoubt’s range fits well too just the odd packs which are a bit smaller and they have a fantastic set of fleeing settlers. I’ve ordered the new Northstar Rangers (even though I have plenty of GM) to see how they compare. I’ve got those Conquest ones but haven’t used them because they are so small but I’m thinking of collecting for some of the large battles using Old Glory which are small too.
Wow mate, that’s a fantastic collection of FIW miniatures. Thanks for showing them 👍👍
Nice. I’m thinking about this era. Sharp Practice.

Thanks Phil. 👍

thank you so much cannot find French Regular?
Great collection! What rules do you play with?
Thanks, we use Sharp Practice for FIW but have also used Muskets and Tomahawks V1 previously.
where do you find French for Fr and indian war
My French regulars are from Warlord Games. They are a little small for 28mm but well modelled and look good.
