- Today we have builds for Donald Duck and Goofy in Dungeons & Dragons! Whether you want the power of Duck Flare or just the power to protect your friends, these two lovable goofballs in D&D 5e!

Remember, Donald Duck is CANONICALLY the strongest mage in Square Enix canon. When Bahamut nuked Eorzea in ff14, he used EXAflare. Donald uses the spell one level higher. The only other person to cast Zettaflare is the penultimate boss of Bravely Default, and they were being empowered by a DEITY THAT EATS UNIVERSES
My theory is that the verbal spell is incredibly difficult to pronounce and Donald's speech impediment allows him to speak it perfectly.
My favorite part was Donald saying he was gonna cast it and Goofy being familiar enough with what was happening to beg Donald to stop. The only conclusion we can draw is Donald has tried to bring out the meganuke before, and done so enough times that Goofy can recognize it.

@@ernestoportillo5136 Charisma is your ability to exert influence, as well as your conviction and faith, and Donald Duck influences me to play games where he either doesn't talk or isn't in them at all.
KH looks like a fine series regardless though.
To be fair, Cleric does kind of work for Donald, since he does need to be able to heal, but his best skill is apparently an ungodly level of Flare that no one in the series has ever cast. Clerics get really good magic that fits the Flare line really well.
Inaccurate. Donald should be a Barbarian/Fighter/Beserker and should've never been some mage. Goofy has never been a fighter unlike Donald.

Its easy to scream at the cleric as a bad healer when there’s only one cleric and they’re having to heal everybody bc no one considers playing a support class or multiclassing or handing out potions of healing so the cleric can catch a break and do something else that isn’t healing on their turn.

Very true. Goofy is stereotyped as the dumb one in most stories, but at least in Kingdom Hearts, he's smarter than Sora and Donald easily

That's almost certainly gonna have to be one of April Fool builds. The capstone for ranger (an extra five damage per turn... sometimes) is unbelievably atrocious.

Goofy is a himbo, and somehow still in possession of the sole brain cell between him, Sora and Donald.
When your companions are a teenager who somehow managed to gain a weapon that can open worlds like a can opener and a caster who is one stubbed toe away from wiping out most of existence, I imagine less that he has the single brain cell and is more where the braincell is hiding for fear of what it might do in the wrong hands.
Goofy is deceptively wise, maybe not smart but wiser than others give him credit for
As someone who has at most tangential knowledge of KH, I'm holding out hope for a build for the Classic/Comics/Ducktales 2017 version of Donald and Scrooge.
Ducktales Donald is a barbarian who dumped str. Always angry, never effective.
@@brettmajeske3525 Ducktales/Comics Donald is a cunning strategist, daring veteran adventurer and certified public accountant who can crack solid stone with his head. Donald's main issues are his Speech Impediment and terrible luck.
Honestly, Battle Master with some levels in Totem Barbarian seems like it'd be a good fit for Donald, while mostly Fighter with a starting dip into Rogue might work best for Scrooge (I'd need to do some more thought to give a better answer on my end).
@@EK24z Cartoon Donald is also a badass brawler and physical powerhouse who punched out sharks and lifted SEQUOIA trees (weigh 4 million pounds in real life) while Goofy was never a fighter. Donald should've been the knight in KH like Disney originally wanted.

It's not like Mickey would have ever been anything but the king and Goofy is the other iconic Disney character alongside Donald and Mickey other than Minnie. Goof's personality does make it so that he would seek to protect in a pinch. KH then were able to justify Donald as being able to fuel his rage into his most damaging spells, including that zetaflare, and fire matches well for his raging ways even as one would expect him to be more nautical in focus.
@@marykateharmon Maybe, but Donald's personality is more protective and destructive than Goofy's who's more a pacifist. In fact, Disney originally wanted Donald to be the knight but that asshole Nomura thought it be "cute" to hear Donald's say spells in his quacky voice and ignored them. I wish Disney ignored Nomura.
Donald is a far more physical fighter than Goofy. I don't mind Donald being both, but I far preferred his physical prowess to his magical one.
On the point of Donald healing, in the context of the Mickey, Donald, and Goofy trio it’s Mickey who is the healer, with much more potent healing and even Holy. Donald is actually the classic Black Mage, dealing high level magic damage. The reason Donald is seen as the healer is because Sora never has both Donald and Mickey as actual party members, so there is no point of comparison.
However, the fact Donald has both GOD LEVEL MAGIC and Cure still would put Donald as a Cleric, so this was ultimately pointless.
I assume Donald a Sage (or red mage) white & black magic but not having the top end.
First ever pure Cleric class build in the series.

Donald is supposed to be the berserker/paladin/knight but dumb Nomura changed his and Goofy's roles
Actually the strongest known bahamut spell is exaflare, belonging to bahamut fury/zero from ff7 exaflare though is only 1 denomination from zettaflare so Donald has eclipsed the strongest form of bahamut
The naming of Flare levels uses the same prefixes as data. Zeta is 1,000x more than Exa.

Finally someone else who knows how to use Donald Duck
With average rolls, Goofy’s HP is a bit north of 250, and thanks to that subclass, you can double it to a bit over 500 as long as you’re not fighting mind flayers. And I love Donald’s subclass too, it’s super underrated. Good lord these two are good, good show
Donald's class here is inaccurate. HE should actually be the tank/beserker/barbarian like he is in canon while Goofy in other csnon rarely fights.
Best part about Donald is that Zettaflare (the Uber zpell that he uses in KH3) is the same spell that Bahamut uses to destroy Eorzea in the original Final Fantasy XIV. A spell that a single casting of destroyed an entire continent.
And turned the worst MMO ever into the best MMO ever #bahamutdidnothingwrong
So it actually makes perfect sense for a healer to have it.

....had nothing to do with a childish belief that the characters in the game were real people who could feel pain or neglected.
I never understood the whole "Donald, heal me!" meme because I found the option to make both him and Goofy sit on the sidelines and throw Hi-Potions and Cures at me as needed fairly early on in the game. I handled all the combat myself, and goddamn did it take a while but I almost never friggin' died.
I never get tired of seeing Kingdom Hearts builds. I’ll be interested to see the next KH build 😄👍
My one complaint: Goofy DOES use magic, though it's more subtle until used in team attacks, which makes all his attacks magical, though very subtly. Other than that, very fitting builds.
Donald is a great healer in Chain of Memories. Just stack 3 Donald cards and watch him top up Axel, Vexen, and Larxene.
I was really hoping Donald might get true polymorph or at least polymorph just to acknowledge its his magic that transforms the party in Atlantis and Lion King oh well not disappointed though great builds as always Tulok.

So I unironically never had problems with Donald healing me since I found out pretty quickly that you can set his AI to just heals.
Though it took me till my recent playthrough of every kingdom hearts game (aside from the mobile games, 358/2 days, re:code, and melody of memory)to realize why I didn't have that issue.
I chose shield everytime I played a KH game. So Goofy, more than any other build, I have been the most excited to see. And it's perfect! It fits my exact priorities for how I play DnD and these games: tough it out and keep your friends in the fight

Finally, someone who knows how to customize Donald right! I've never understood that meme, even back in 2002/3 (I forget what year KH1 came out)...
5E is really in need of a better way to weaponize a shield beyond taking Tavern Brawler and hoping your DM agrees with you on how much damage it should do. Really that would be a great theme for a new, pure martial Fighter subclass.
I feel shield fighter could be a fun brawler subclass.... or I guess just give us a brawler fighter

For Goofy, Protection is probably the right call for a fighting style, but Interception is also in character and has the benefit of consistency. Protection is great in that it can turn a hit into a miss, but will fail as often as it will work. Whereas Interception will always reduce damage but not that much. So if you’re building Goofy at home you just have to decide of high risk high reward vs consistency.
My homebrew for Protection and Interception (since neither are particularly great)
Protection: If an enemy still hits through disadvantage you can choose to take half the damage dealt or regain your reaction for this turn
Interception: As part of your reaction you can roll damage die for the weapon you’re wielding equal to the amount of attacks you can take with the Attack action, to reduce the amount of damage by the amount rolled (no modifiers added to the reduction), after this you cannot take the Attack action on your next turn. If you use a shield to the reduce the damage you can reduce your AC until the end of your next turn to decrease the damage by the amount of AC reduced (must have a minimum of 1 AC) but you may still take the Attack action on your turn.
The interception one is a little complicated, I’m still working on it.
High risk/high reward sounds more in-character for Goofy.

I know, I know Donald doesn’t have the ability to mimic speech like Kenkus do, BUT, consider,
He’s a flightless bird man
Not particularly bright
Known for throwing fits
And one of things that upsets him is how no one can understand what he’s saying
It’s an interesting character at least
He's a barbarian/berserker because he's more of a physical fighter than just magic.
The Goofy Movie references are greatly appreciated.
Goofy should have Performance proficiency based on how good he gives lap dances to Zagreus.
(I get that to non-Drawfee fans this sounds like a fever dream of a sentence)

@@reloadpsi I was still a little wrong - using divine intervention for the Zetta is cool, and does theoretically more damage than any spell combos I may have mashed together. Seeing that Xemnas can crank out 250+ damage really restructured my understanding of "lots and lots of damage."

Very fun builds! I like to think of Sacred Flame as if it drops from the sky, so it works great as a “thunder” replacement in my head.

I was surprised to see Goofy doesn’t pick up the Shield Master feat in your build! I suppose he doesn’t need it since Danger Sense and Tavern Brawler cover a number of its abilities, but still surprising nonetheless!

As someone who prides himself on impressions, if I were a DM and a player did a good Donald Duck impression, I'd give them a usage of inspiration, purely out of impressing me. I don't know how his voice actor does it. Makes Dark Souls look like Animal Crossing by comparison

If I were to rework this build a bit, I think I would add 1-3 levels of Barbarian to get a bit more classic Donald in there. Rage when you’re low on spell slots, save healing for outside of battle, I think you could make it work okay despite the restrictions

No mention of the spells you get AS an Arcana Domain Cleric? Seriously, there's some good stuff there... Magic Missle, Detect Magic, Leomund's Secret Chest, Teleportation Circle... just to name a few. Sure, they don't emulate the stuff Donald can do in-game, but they're still useful. And you get them automatically... they're added to your prepared-list after every long rest.
Eh... you get a mulligan for finally using the Spell Sniper feat. I love that feat.

A word on the "donald doesn't heal good" line.
with the addition of one of the donald medals in KHUX, the update text describing the new medal to hype it up said "he won't heal you here, either".
in other words, THE DEVS KNEW THAT DONALD HAD A REPUTATION FOR BEING AN INCOMPETENT HEALER, and embraced it as part of the character.
I never realized how much I needed this build until it came out. My guess is on Lv 20 Custom LIneage or Kenku evocation wizard for Donald and Battlemaster Fighter with a spellcaster dip for 1-3 levels (for his limit attacks like Whirli-Goof) for Goofy.
You know Donald should be a paladin as KH1 many of his staff have really high atk stats and he works really well as a melee support fight with sora makeing a way better caster
KH1 AI burns through MP so fast he might as well be a melee fighter who heals sometimes.

I have been hyped for this video since I tried making a Goofy-themed dogfolk character, but I'm a noob so he didn't turn out anywhere near as character accurate as this, so I took some liberties.
But yeah, great vid! This is def one of my faves.
