    I accidentally wiped off the black mark when I first took the burr carrier out...oops.

      Don't worry, you just need to do wet marker test on the 3 positions and see which one gives you the best alignment and mark it again.

    Hello What Type Of Marker Did You Use On The Burrs?

  • @terubosu

    why do you manually turn rather than turning the machine on to test the burrs. is it more damaging to turn on and test this?

    i just ordered this grinder, do i need to align the burrs on arrival or should they be okay out of the box?

    Hey hey, is there another video coming in the series ? And what would you recommend for a person who likes full bodied espresso (medium to light medium) and medium bodied medium clarity filter. I think the df64 gen2 fits the box, with the ssp hu burrs and maybe something like the ssp cast burrs for filter ?

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  3 місяці тому

      Ssp cast is best choice for a good body shots with balance of sweetness.

    I received my Gen 2 a week ago - after 4 times postponement because of burr aligning works. Therefore i would say that my burrs should be aligned well now 🙂

    Hello CY. Great channel. Are you going to do a burr shimming video for the DF64 Gen 2?

  • @cihandemir6372

    Hey CY i love your videos and a have a problem with my almost 1 year old DF64 (v4 i guess)
    Last time i cleaned it like i always do (once a month) than throw all back together, grind at scale size 15 beans and pulled a espresso, so far so good. The next morning i also grind some beans pull my espresso and instead of 18g coffee-> 36-38gr in 25sec. I get like 30gr coffee in like 10seconds.
    Then i opened it, clean it put it back together, grind at size 15 my coffee and all good, then i put another shot again and the same sh*t happend again, after the first grind it get more course.
    Do you know what can cause this? Is it maybe the burrs are not good anymore? What i saw when opened it after cleaning and the first grind that some chunks was left on the outside oft the burr lile 2-3mm, so i was thinking that maybe the burrs not aligned and on some spots leaving those chunks? Appreciate your answer and a happy new year!!!

      Hi my friend. In my experience with the DF64 gen 1, i have not really encounter grinder where the grind adjustment will run after grinding beans. When you clean your grinder, do you always check your zero point and set your burr touch point? This problem od grind setting becoming coarser only happened recently when you clean your grinder?

    Thank you for doing this! Possibly a stupid qn, but will using a marker introduce toxic substances to the grinder? And is there any non-toxic markets or “food-grade” markers out there? 😅

      Why not do this marker trick, shim if necessary, mark the correct top burr carrier position, take the carrier out to clean the burrs and reassemble in the correct position?

    Thank you for this Video. I ordered the Gen 2. it will be my first time using a DF or a good grinder respectively.
    My question is: do I have to season it? I have read, that some people just buy 1-2 kg of cheap coffe beans and grind it until it is „seasoned“ and the burrs are prepared to grind the good beans. What is your opinion about that?

    Putting marker on the rotary burr makes no sense, if only a portion of the burrs touch, the entire outside of the rotary burr will touch that point as it spins and get wipeout, you should only put marker on the stationary burr

    this is the only reason I've held off buying any of the DF64 models. you play russian roullette just to see if you get a decently aligned burr set. meaning if you're a normie like me who just wants to buy a grinder and run it, you have a decent chance of getting one that grinds like crap, or one that's PERFECT out of the box...*sigh

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  Рік тому +4

      nothing at this price range is out of the box perfectly aligned, at least not that i kmow of. But of course if your pocket is deep enough, perhaps you can find something that is perfect out of the box. Even before i check alignment, the df64 gen 2 is already pretty good. I did this alignment test just to share with my fellow friends who may be interested to check how aligned the burrs are in a few simple steps.
      And to make it slightly getter than russian roulette, we have 3 tries other than 6? Anyway Merry Christmas my friend!

      @@CaffeMartellaSingaporehow big of a change would really well aligned vs. what you have here net you? Meaning for a normie like me who just wants to use it, would it be a large difference grinding my normal coffee un shimmed and calibrated vs. just "letting her rip", or would it simply be an incremental nitpicking difference.
      for clarification I'm an espresso snob, but I've stuck with 1zpresso and Kinu hand grinder simply because I stuck with dark roasts, but have been wanting to add some light roast espresso into my rotation so I was looking at 64 mm flats like this.

    • @CaffeMartellaSingapore
      @CaffeMartellaSingapore  Рік тому

      To be honest, for beginner, one may not tell the difference but a seasoned espresso maker would have notice the raise in difficulty to dial in shots. The taste will be more muddy and less clear. However this is slightly harder unless you hace a well-aligned burrs vs a not so well aligned one.

      Agreed. Chinese made product. Maybe someone like the Swiss, Germans, or Japanese will release a quality grinder at this tier and at a non-astronomical price.
      This is like buying a $90k car but having to calibrate the transmission before driving to ensure it runs properly.
