This is a cover of Meshuggah's 'Dancers to a discordant system' taken from the 2008 album ObZen. This is one of my favourite songs and also has some great lyrics to go with it.
I kept to the original minus a few minor changes which you'll probably hear (just spur of the moment dumbery) aswell as a totally different solo (which isn't on the video as my camera didn't record when I did it!)
You'll see it's on a 7 string instead of 8 (most of the song doesn't need an 8 string to play, I wanted to showcase my new Mayones Duvell Qatsi Juice Burst which was already setup for F tuning so why not!)
Gear:
Mayones Duvell Qatsi Baritone 7 String
Bareknuckle Nailbomb/Cold Sweat
Hannes Piezo System for the cleans
Line 6 Helix
Steinberg Cubase
Canon EOS600D with 18-55mm lens and natural light
Adobe Premiere to edit
Please enjoy and subscribe to my channel!
My head: I can totally play this
My left hand: wat
My right hand: hahahaha stop
Skur skur
Same here dude hahaha
Downe with the Pickness
Clever
You can't fool me, I know all the tone comes from that tag hanging on the headstock.
The higher the price on the tag, the better the tone
That outro is still one of the most powerful things on earth. Tight as fudge.
It melts my cells
Im sorry good sir would you be so kind to do a cover like that one on
*EVERY SINGLE MESSHUGAH SONG*
I agree
Still waiting for I in its entirety in a single take
@@TheRiffingFatboy Check out Sam Mooradian's cover of I. One take.
The guitar sounds like an alligator eating a sheep with the bends
Dhieen ok then
yea, cool af
as a student of any kind of music, how can you not appreciate the intricacy of this? It is waaayyyy out there...
be far the hardest thing ive ever learnt!
@@JohnBrownemonumentsand you learned it well.
You're a champion of covers my friend.
Utterly wonderful performance! gorgeous guitar tone and flawless playing! love it :-D
A Minecraft youtuber on a djent video. Mmm...

Hi Joao it's Kieran from the future!
This is fuckin surreal
Booo
Hello João it’s Evan from the further future
Why do I recognize all four of the people in these replies
The way you play the riff at 4:22 is so fucking brutal man, even better than the original.
i fucking know right, every time i hear that part i just imagine the sky splitting into 2 and fleets of alien ships coming through the rift and fucking the universe up!!!
I thought the same thing. I legit never knew it sounded similar to that in the song until now.
That shit is just *pounding* my speakers. _and_ my eardrums.
Downpicking is just heavier. And I love that about it.
When you really listen to this and take the time to analyze the different tracks he recorded (L/R) it becomes even more impressive. You did a damn fuckin good job man, kudos to you.
Damn, that's smooth and tight. You're picking style is a cross between a Swiss watch and a Husqvarna chainsaw. Awesome!
Sexcellent!
Hello man
hey charlie !!
Dat tone! Also, when will you do that long awaited "all-down-pick"-cover of Bleed? :D
His wrist might actually have to heal after a cover like that...
kek
That tone is ridiculously crispy
You know he uses a line 6 Helix for the tone right?
@@isaiahorta6049 what does that matter
Man this just grooves for a solid 8 minutes. I need to listen to some more Meshuggah.
Ahh Meshuggah. The only band who spawned an entire genre which we are supposed to hate while only liking and crediting Meshuggah as the talented source of inspiration. Love it.
You think allot of deep thoughts don't you
@@behindthen0thing525I would expect nothing less.
One does not appreciate the likes of Meshuggah without spending a fair amount of time in deep thought.

man I can't believe this is almost 5 years old already, I remember thinking the day this came out that it'd stand the test of time! Great cover!
That downpicking. Damn. Dude, you're awesome.
Awesome cover! I find it very cool that you chose this song. I hear some really cool similarities at the end of both this song and "Origin Of Escape". Definitely one of my top Meshuggah tracks also. Great work John!
Thats the Nastiest tone I've ever heard 😲
You outdid meshuggah on their own song
Ugh. so good.
I want this version with vocals.. I love the tone
Gothic Octopus I'm right there with you on that it would get me headbanging even harder than the original
I still come back for this one from time to time
Not a single up-stroke was given
@@bendjamin808 Good spot... but you are correct, I was just talking about the rhythm guitar.
Bro was down with the pickness.
Upstrokes are for LOG players
Dude this sounds really great. There is no bigger fan of Meshuggah than me, equals, but no greater. I have listened to this song countless times. Whatever you are doing here is great because something is added. I didn't think that was possible.
i havnt listened to this in a long time wow i forgot how fkin badass this was that solo is amazing and the chugs at 3:50
John "Downstrokes" Browne.
Life just gets better every time John uploads a video!
I love your rendition of this John. Excellent arrangement and production.
This is incredible, everything sounds great!
Good lord, let this man go to heaven. punchy metallic colorful sound on every single instrument, cheers man, you're one of the few that are making UA-cam a better place!
Seeing that you rest your pinky against the top string when picking as a support makes me feel so much better cos I've been doing that for years and since deciding to work on my right hand technique I was told by someone I was doing it wrong and should have my fingers all tucked in tight like a fist, I found this counter intuitive and it was a bit disheartening to feel like I might have to take a big step back and relearn - seems you should just do what works for you and keep practising. Big love John you are a huge fucking inspiration
I totally relate. All my guitars have a rubbed off spot on the finish where my pinky rests lol.
There's no way to use your instrument "wrong". This is art, you are free to whatever you want with your instrument. Having your unique style can be really fun and interesting too!
I prefer to think of those techniques as guidlines. Standardized methodologies upon which artists can build their own unique playstyles and techniques.
Superior picking. Have never seen any as cool as this guy 😎
Unsuspecting, willing, blind, controllable herd
Pawns in a covert game conducted by hands we trust
Dominated, compliant and deceptable
Confident that we matter - we don't see that we're but dust

Dust with soul
Crazy how much more I appreciate the grounding yet grouvey vocal rhythms on an instrumental, just like imagine writing this and being like, oh yeah this vocal line in my head will sound dope af on top of this, how even?!?! LOVE THESE GUYS!!!
Wow, just freaking awesome dude! I'm proud to be a swede from time to time, and whenever I hear Meshuggah, I feel it!
This is the last thing I will probably say about someone covering Meshuggah. Your first verse sounds better than the original
I see 1,000,000 subscribers in your future friend.
For me to have clicked on this by accident I stayed around for the talent, I am impressed : )
Damn! Awesome tone and very, very tight. Ridiculously enjoyable to watch. Nice work!
Every video I watch of John just makes me say, fuck this guy is good. It inspires me to work harder to achieve my goals of being a better guitarist. :)
This is one of the greatest covers I have seen. And awesome Cognizance t shirt.
Let me just tell you how good this is: if I want to listen to this song, I look up your cover.
THAT TONE!
Your playing is incredible and the Line 6 Helix is for real!
inveigle I need to get one
This pleases me.
We believe, so we're misled
We assume, so we're played
We confide, so we're deceived
We trust, so we're betrayed
What a masterpiece this is 🤘🏻
still come back and give this a listen! such a cracking cover man!
Literaly *the. best.* cover of this song on the internet.
I even dare say some parts are even better than the studio version!
❤
This video is therapy
Thanks for an absolute savage cover of one of my favorite meshuggah songs. I hope the boys in Meshuggah hear this somehow
This is the greatest solo I've ever seen edit: this is not a solo I apologize
holy shit what a tone... awesome cover man. see you this weekend at with full force... can´t wait
That beast eats everything that "she finds... Nobody can stop John Browne.
Dude. I find myself listening to this version more than the official song!
Like... Alot more!
Been watching this all week
this lad should play all songs ever written! he is guitar god!!!!
When a cover sounds more Meshuggah than Meshuggah, fucking brutal.
You don’t listen to Meshugga; you experience them. You sir have doubled down on that experience.
we all the know the reason that why his right hand is so dominant.

Wow dude, thank you for making this. Haha. So dope.
Sick. Once again showing the Helix is the real deal. That thing doesn't play around.
Jack Elliott he's using a line 6 helix? Shiiiiiiiiiiiit🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Damn d00d, the downstrokes! You must be a grand champion at Wackamole.
Incredible John! I'm very impressed!
Your covers are so well produced and flawlesly played.
After learning 20+ Meshuggah songs by heart, most of ObZen, Koloss, and Nothing, I can confidently say this is one of the hardest Meshuggah songs, at least after 3:23
Nice cover Browne. Cheers from Norway! Neighbour land to Sweden :)
I have no words... Superb!
Insane work as always.
I think I prefer this version compared to the original, except for the riff @5:36 (I don't know if it's one of the "spur of the moment" changes but I prefer the original riff) and the ending "ambient guitar" notes.
Keep going Browne, your work is always inspiring .
I saw the same change in several other covers. I guess there's a bad tab floating around
I just wanna say you are some insane skills brother much respected..... keep up the great works love
Awesome. Why not some Tony Danza next? :)
Great Job! Sad I didn’t get to see you cover the solo, but none the less, well done.
My camera stopped working! and it was the best take... Sorry about that!
Excellent ... hope to see more Meshuggah covers
Tha end riff is literally the heaviest thing in this universen, everytimes it's played, a multi parsec black hole is created somewhere randomly
Great job! Proper meaty tone and precise execution
How can this be so f-ing cool!?
5:36 is so great
Atmospheric and awesome!
Those few dislikes are from Dream Theater fans.
The real master of downpicking that cover was good asf
proper technique right there - thumbs up!
Goddamn that killer tone! Great vid.
Eye wateringlly insane
Holy shit that tone though!
Goosebumps. Mahn!!
Well that was beastly!
Guitar is sick. Can't wait for mine to arrive.
flawless. awesome cover, John.
what the fuck this is amazing, more meshuggah covers bro!
That was absolutely awesome!
bestial tone, man :D
Please bless us with that tone!!!
You're so awesome maan!!!
i find in showing a lot of my friends messhugah it helps to ease the blow by removing the vocals. they hear it for what its truly worth and dont just scoff at the screaming. proof is in the pudding when i can introduce old boys to this music and they are blown the fuck away lol.
I love how that 3 note intro sounds like its being played on a koto
Devan Romero ok um what the fuck is a koto
