Icybreeze which is a competitor product is also a hybrid AC cooler. I think its a little more expensive but it works better than this. First of all the cooling process is different. The Ryobi just blows air across the ice which is more like a swamp cooler. This method will melt the ice more quickly. The Icybreeze however works similar to a traditional air conditioner. It doesn't blow cold air across the ice. Instead it has a water pump that pumps cold ice water through a coil. And has a heat exchanger that removes the moisture of the cold air. The fan blows out COLD dry air just like a traditional AC. However it is not meant to cool a room. Its a personal AC but it gets really cold and the ice last longer. You can make the ice last even longer by adding frozen water bottle and top brand ice packs. Another thing I like about Icybreeze is that it has a directional hose instead of a stationary vent like Ryobi. You dont have to move the cooler around to cool yourself. Icybreeze is decent cooler as well. I put some frozen water bottles in the cooler and left it in my car for 6 hours on an 85 degree day. Keep in mind it gets even hotter inside the car. I didn't put any ice in the cooler. Only a few good quality ice packs and after 6 hours the water bottles were still frozen solid as if I had taken out of the freezer! You need to review Icybreeze because it definitely blows cold dry air that rivals the coldness of a traditional AC. Ryobi is just a swamp cooler and the air that blows out of it is a moist cool air.
I was hoping that the 18v batteries were keeping the cooler cold, thus no ice needed. Kind of like a fridge. Unfortunately all it is, is a regular cooler with a fan.
Ryobi stopped selling the "One+ 18v Ice Melter" so now it's problematic because all these people who are already hot and are in need of cooling down are taking turns blowing on the ice to cool down their loved ones and they are getting light headed and passing out in their puddles of melting ice. Will the cruelty of 2020 never end????
When is this available in the UK ?? All my tools are RYOBI, I just get annoyed at the lack of support for the UK market with the entire range the USA has access to, as I would buy a lot more
hskersr1 I lucked out and got mine directly from Ryobi to test. They said they are selling quicker than demand can handle, but more are supposed to hit stores this month.
No worse than a normal cooler. I've filled it up with ice and drinks and had it going for a good 6 hours and the melting rate wasn't any worse than a standard cooler. It's not a Yeti, so you're not going to get several days, but you can easily take it with you tailgating or fishing (but don't put the fish in it) and have it last the day.
@@LazyGuyDIY mainly because heating and cooling take MASSIVE amounts of power. stupid laws of thermodynamics. be fine if it's just a pick nick or something, ice won't last very long when the cool is being vented from the environment. ha I'm such a buzz kill.
At the time this was filmed and the cooler came out, there really weren't any commercial swamp coolers on the market. Now of course there are a ton. They discontinued this product a few years ago though.
Because it's pulling air through the ice to circulate the cold air your thaw time is a lot shorter. So a full chest of ice probably lasts about 4 hours at best on a really hot day.
Sort of, but that's not the priority. There's no vacuum seal around the lid when you close it and it's got to pull air in somewhere as it's pushing it out. The shell of the cooler is still insulated and the 50 qts gives you a ton of ice to work with. But the selling point is pushing cold air out onto you for a few hours and then keeping your drinks cold rather than having a cooler that will keep your stuff cold for days like a Yeti.
You put it in a tent the size of the freaking cooler and it still took 10 minutes to cool it down 10 degrees that's kind of ridiculous, don't know why this guy doesn't see that, or feel that
528 Freq Oh, no. I had to wait a full ten minutes for my cooler to go down 10 degrees. What will I ever do? *Sarcasm* Relax, bud. You can set up your camp site while this thing is cooling down.
an uninsulated tent made of plastic that's barely a millimeter thick and also woven so loosely that air and wind goes straight through the fabric weaving
The top isn't air tight to keep the ice from melting over long periods of time like a Yeti. It's pulling air through to push cool air out so you do have to refill ice every few hours if you want to continuously push cold air out.
wait... isn't the idea of a cooler to keep the shit inside cold as long as possible? Why did they invent a cooler than turns your shit warm quicker!? What's the point of this? Is this for people in small tents on a hot night who have a ready supply of ice or something?
Had once and returned (totally useless design). The lid is too heavy to lift (Not safe for kids), if not full then keep flipping on another side whenever you open the lid. Terrible to Walk with it (since the handle is too short and cooler is huge).
Thanks for your feed back Joe. The video was made before the product went to retail and words like "swamp cooler" or "Evap Cooler" were discouraged in the review from being included because of trademarks. This might actually be the very first review on UA-cam of the product, so a lot has changed since marketing material and details were finalized. It was encouraged to call it AC like because it was easier for consumers to relate to that might not know the technology it was based off of. That's why we explain the actual process of how the cooler works instead of having people think there are coils and compressors inside when really it's a fan with cooler of ice.
Learn how to do a real review of a real tool with a real-world aspect 12-pack of beer a 10 lb bag of ice how long will it last meor a 12 pack of pop and a 3-pound bag of ice how long will it last me
The unit is less about keeping beer cold and more about pushing cold air out like a swamp cooler for a few hours. I'm sorry I failed you. I started the experiment with a 6 pack of Golden Colorado refreshment and grew increasingly concerned when the mountains were no longer blue. So I started a rescue effort to transplant the endangered brews into some place safer than the cans that were no longer maintaining their temperatures. Because of the speed and success of the operation I took a congratulatory nap in the tent and forgot to record the final results. Bottom line, there's not a seal for keeping your drinks cold, it's forcing outside air over the ice to push cooler air out. So the temperature doesn't maintain and anything you put in there that's not meant to melt is going to be luke warm after a few hours.
Ryobi hit me up I can make that thing work way better way more efficient way more colder and I have all the Ryobi tools in a kit sponsor me and I'll make a UA-cam channel and show it all

That's not an air conditioner, it's an EVAP Cooler at most,
Now Ryobi... Make an 18 volt ice maker to supply the "cold" for the unit...
Ha ha! That's brilliant!
Essentially it’s drawing in hot air which is cooled by the ice but which over time will cause the ice to melt faster from heat transfer
nailed it.
I was hoping that the 18v batteries were keeping the cooler cold, thus no ice needed. Kind of like a fridge. Unfortunately all it is, is a regular cooler with a fan.
Does me blowing on the ice in my hand make me an A/C unit? Hell no it doesn’t!
It’s not an air conditioner. It’s an ice melter and humidifier.

see my post above. Icybreeze is a much better product

So where did you get it? Home depot site show "not available online" and "not currently sold in stores".
hskersr1 I lucked out and got mine directly from Ryobi to test. They said they are selling quicker than demand can handle, but more are supposed to hit stores this month.
Thanks
Where was the lab coat when conducting all the scientific tests? All kidding aside, thanks for the review!
Where can I find this? I can't find it in any Texas Home Depot.
Unfortunately, they stopped selling it a few years ago.
Yeah but can youplug it in. I like they do the "hybrid" on a light I was looking at
Unfortunately, no. This came out a few years ago before they really pushed the hybrid tools. It’s since been discontinued.
But how fast is it going to eat through the ice? That could get expensive to run real quickly

So even though Home Depot list this under thermoelectric coolers, it is not. Right? Having a battery cooler would be a coola cooler.
Ha! It's cold fusion!
@@LazyGuyDIY Lol
Wish they still made this
It was a pretty cool gadget cooler. It burned through ice quickly though, so you did need to refill it often to keep it effective.
How long does the ice stay ice , it would be good if it were like the yeti.
It ain’t gonna matter if it’s a yeti, if it’s introducing outside air at 80-90 degrees the ice is gonna go fast!
What panels did you use for your tools on the wall?
Wall Control pegboards. Check out some of my new videos with the newer set up from them. I have a discount code of "LAZYGUYDIY15" too if you pick any.
My question is what kind of an area with that thing actually cool down
The immediate area. We used this in an RV at one point as well, but it obviously causes a ton of moisture.
bum, I was expecting a refrigerator.
not quite there yet with battery powered coolers, but this is a fun one for tailgating and camping.

so it's drawing "hot" air into the cooler? won't that kill the efficiency of the cooler?

Not recommended for Higher moisture places. dry places a must. Maybe dry ice???
