When you paint it, plz put the toyota stripes back on!! They look so good! Also you should put the 6 slot grill back that was stock to that year. Super excited for this build!
Merry Christmas Austin! I’m so exited for this build! This may be one of my favorite vehicles of all time. I had a 92 pickup for years and years. 320,000 on that 22re and it started first crank every time (after I swapped the head gasket and timing chain guides) That truck took me the 150 mile journey between my college apartment and my hometown almost every other weekend without a hitch. Seeing this brought back some great memories!
I vote, 3 link front, leave the rear leaf spring, 37’s, 1 or 2UZ mated to a 5speed trans! And like you said, just a nice clean stock body and stockish interior!
I had an 84 just like that and I drove the wheels off it. I towed my Jet Skis to the races all over the Southwest and it never let me down. The 84 was a great year for that truck because of the straight front axle. You're 100% right about that 22RE, pretty gutless. Thanks for an awesome year of videos, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
Another build! Hell yeah. Can't wait for u to start. First. Merry Christmas to you and family. The FJ going to be hard to beat but you never disappoint. Thanks for educating and entertaining content. Hope 25 good year for us all. 👍
Awesome acquisition! I just acquired a clean 1987 Access Cab (RN66). I am also deciding what to do with it. I’ve been viewing a few dash pad restoration videos. Looking forward to seeing your decisions.
The 85 is by far my favorite body style, if you sell it when you’re done, please please let me know. I’d say a smaller lift on it, 31, maybe 33 inch tires, it’s a smaller frame, need the tires to match the smaller body. Id say diesel swap it, or a newer Tacoma engine swap would be awesome with that smaller body. I also liked your green raptor liner truck you did, only do this one tan, if not raptor lined, make it all black like back to the future. I’m pumped about this one, totally want to buy it when you’re done. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Here's to the next year of watching you rebuild this truck !! Sure wish you were my neighbor. I have an 88 4Runner and 92 pickup that need work and i'm not a spring chicken anymore.
I do not think I have ever seen a 2uzfe dropped into a Tacoma. Would it fit? If so, challenge issued! Looking forward to see what you do with this truck!
Pretty excited for the 84 build. I had an 86 that had a 22r engine in it. You’re right, they are gutless. But they are fabulous trucks. Fun to drive. Looking forward to it.
There are lots of 1uz/2uz builds out there. I’d love to see something that uses a different Toyota motor. If you want to sell it when you are done, people are willing to pay a lot of cash for a Back to the Future replica if done well!
My vote 5.7 tundra motor with the super charger and don’t forget the six speed manual out of a Tacoma. I think that would be a first and you have the skills to pull it off
Seeing that you are in the center of the Toyota universe there, you have to grab the good deals when they come along. Mine's a bricknose Ford collection because that's what we have here. I just picked up another that I didn't need, but it was free, so...
You know there's only one way to go....Marty mcfly replica... but pay attention to detail, which seems to be your forte 😉.... as for power plant, then 1uz or 2uz on an auto trans for v8 cruising, or VW 1.8t 20v manual for all out hoonigan driving🙈👍
Full 2uz/ transmission and transfer case would be the move. Cheap to buy a full donor chassis. The Early Sequoia would be the cheapest chassis is get as a donor for the 2uz drivetrain.
Well, it's official that you have a problem! Hahaha. I vote for either the RZ engine or a UZ, since you haven't done either of those yet on your channel. Either way I know that you will make it look like it belongs there. I'm a big fan of making things look like they came that way from the factory.
Austin, I am doing a 2TR-FE VVT-i Turbo swap into my 2nd Gen 4Runner. If you want a good motor, look into the 2TR-FE VVT-i (2.7L cast iron closed deck block) from a 2004+ Tacoma and slap a turbo on it. They adapt to the R150F’s with an OEM bellhousing, and are a fantastic choice instead of a 3RZ.
I have two Toyota 1986' Xtra Cab factory Turbo 4X4 pickups. LOVE EM!!! Can't wait to watch the progress. 22RET engines don't lack the power. They work well.
I hope you don't mind this comment because it's from another country, but you always choose and finish the best vehicles. I've seen all your videos, my friend, you're a very expert in that. Regards.
Love your channel and the work that you do. I like more normal work that you have done in the past (pretty frugal guy) bc it is more in line with something that I would think about doing. You kinda left me behind a little bit with the super landcuiser off road build. I really like the work that you did, but it kinda got beyond anything that would be practical for someone like me. Just a comment and not a criticism. Enjoy your channel.
Do a 2.7 3RZ Turbo/r150f swap on the 2nd gen! With rods and pistons, standalone they will make 500hp easily. You'll need a bell housing from a 2TR 5 speed tacoma. 2nd or 3rd gen.
I’m building an 84 4Runner right now. Just finished the axles on it. Built a FJ80 Front with a Ruffstuff rear axle. I’m stuck between a sbc 350 motor or an LS ? I have both motors sitting in my garage.
@ that’s what I’m leaning towards. I only contemplated the SBC just for the simplicity on getting it running in the desert. But I love the LS and it’s potential for future power adders
When you paint it, plz put the toyota stripes back on!! They look so good! Also you should put the 6 slot grill back that was stock to that year. Super excited for this build!
Marty McFly that truck!!! Gloss Black with roll bar and yellow KCs.
Yes, but make it white! Maybe some Miami Vice stripes.

Merry Christmas! 🎄 🎉
Merry Xmas Austin and crew ty for another year of great content
yeeee! more Toyotas!
I vote, 3 link front, leave the rear leaf spring, 37’s, 1 or 2UZ mated to a 5speed trans! And like you said, just a nice clean stock body and stockish interior!
Marry Christmas! Can’t wait for this build

My vote goes for the 1HD-FT if you can get it to fit.
SO pumped for this build!! 😊👍🏻
Love to see a 2uz super charged in it
@@keithjerry1205 now we’re talking!

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you too!
Hope you decide to install that 1UZ V8 for the new yoda. Kinda cool keeping it all Toyota.
1GR-FE 4.0 swap with OEM TRD super charger!
Austin feliz navidad y vas a tener buenos proyectos y feliz año nuebo 👍🤠

Do the Samurai!!!
They make a dash cover that's molded and fits right over the 2nd gen dash. Would look great! I was going to do it in mine before I sold it.
Thanks for the video! Merry Christmas.
2JZ Taco Supreme
I'm so excited for this build!!!!!!!
I fell in love with Gen 2 Tacomas. Paint it back to original color.
Here's to the next year of watching you rebuild this truck !! Sure wish you were my neighbor. I have an 88 4Runner and 92 pickup that need work and i'm not a spring chicken anymore.
Sweet! I almost bought one of these new off the lot, solely because they were the only truck that still had a wing vent window.
5.7 tundra swap, 3 link front & 4 link rear or Long travel, quicksand 💪🏼
Gotta get ‘em when you can.
Back to the future clone build!
Back to the future replica!!!!
You should do a fully mechanical OM606 turbo diesel in it.
There are lots of 1uz/2uz builds out there. I’d love to see something that uses a different Toyota motor.

My dad had an 88' Deluxe. I can attest to the rust rot factor.
I can’t wait to see the samurai project
Congratulaciones
Keep that thing original Toyota factory colors - with the decal stripes and all!!!

I’d love to period correct tube bumpers, side steps, and roll bar on this thing.
Back to the future tribute truck!!!!! Do it for Marty and Doc!
Back to the future replica!

A start to finish 3.4 swap keep the auto and install duel cases and 37’s would be sweet
👍🏽🇺🇸👍🏽 should be a nice build
Dude. Yes!
1UZ, dual cases, fab'd housings w/lc chunks, links
as clean as that is... keep it leaf spring. Do some OME 2.5", cross over steering, 35's, 5.29's... Then maybe a 3rz... keep it as clean as you can.
On the samurai you should build a 22R with holley sniper kit, Jim makes a maybe new to you cylinder head that with a stroker makes 160HP
Full 2uz/ transmission and transfer case would be the move. Cheap to buy a full donor chassis. The Early Sequoia would be the cheapest chassis is get as a donor for the 2uz drivetrain.
Toyota V8 would be sick!
Finally content worth watching!!!
What do you mean!? You didn't enjoy the FJ build??
Nice 👍👍👍😎😎😎

Geez dude, you lucky dog, that 2 gen is gorgeous
I think I got a good one!
2.7 or 3.4 swap would be awesome. Happy Holidays man love the videos
1st Gen. 2nd Gen -05-15 can't wait to see what you will do with it!
This is a 2nd gen. 1st gen 79-83, 2nd gen 84-88, 3rd gen 89-95... Tacoma started 95.5.
Not a Tacoma
First gen 4runner...PLEASE. Love my first gen.
Toyota 84 - 88 the best ! 💪💪💪
1UZ in the 84 with a 3rd gen / 1st gen taco trans

Feliz natal
def excited for samuri build
Me too!!
I have a 89 , rebuilt motor transmission and rear.
Keep this one
An 84 is my dream truck, as I graduated high school in 84.
I have two Toyota 1986' Xtra Cab factory Turbo 4X4 pickups. LOVE EM!!! Can't wait to watch the progress. 22RET engines don't lack the power. They work well.
Back to the future clone is my vote it’s the most iconic Toyota truck ever 👍
Do the new small Cummins swap. That would be awesome.
I hope you don't mind this comment because it's from another country, but you always choose and finish the best vehicles. I've seen all your videos, my friend, you're a very expert in that. Regards.
Om617 or Om606 or Bhw would be great swap for this truck.
Maybe check out the Cummins repower 2.8
I’m not going to make it super nice. Riiiight. Got it.😂😂
Obviously you go BACK TO THE FUTURE!

Thanks man, I appreciate you sticking with the channel!
These are going to awesome builds you lucky devil you
Check out Greg’s Restorations in MA possibly for a solid dash. They’re also on UA-cam. They also make new retro tube bumpers.
OM606 :)
TDI swap the white extra cab or even better an OM606 👌
Do a 2.7 3RZ Turbo/r150f swap on the 2nd gen! With rods and pistons, standalone they will make 500hp easily. You'll need a bell housing from a 2TR 5 speed tacoma. 2nd or 3rd gen.
Love your vids, how is Cameron doing?
Cant wait
Yes I appreciate toyota project indeed keep up good work buddy
Looks like the grill from maybe an 87 or 88? I vote 22r, but I'm not much of a power junkie.
Yes
Put a 4bt in it
I think a 3.4 swap would be cool… or some Lexus V8 swap
Sensacional...
With you on the motor. I have 4 differently build 22re's , but ended up swapping Chevy 350's into them. Even with a turbo it just wasn't working.
Im waiting to see what u doing to the pickup truck.
👍👏👏🎄🎅🎄👏👏👍
I want that truck after u done with it....lmk. Im interesting it.
Body swap it to a new Tacoma chassis 😊
Never seen anyone swap a gm 2.7 turbo 4 cylinder truck engine swapped. 300 plus hp and more than 400 ft lbs of torque . Would be sweet.
Stick a v10 in it
I’m building an 84 4Runner right now. Just finished the axles on it. Built a FJ80 Front with a Ruffstuff rear axle. I’m stuck between a sbc 350 motor or an LS ? I have both motors sitting in my garage.
1 million % LS!!
@ that’s what I’m leaning towards. I only contemplated the SBC just for the simplicity on getting it running in the desert. But I love the LS and it’s potential for future power adders
1UZ. No lift. 33s.
That is great i love that hilux
We a lot of that cars here in Mozambique
Greetings Austin good job
I think you're the only one who knows that is a hilux
You said it's gonna get painted, but I think you should keep the patina. Rub some VGG shine juice on it and leave it as is.
@@juststitches nooo it’s gotta get a nice paint job!!!
@@austinniemela agreed 👍
the patina thing is way over done anymore and idk why, it doesnt look good
