  • @timbaland916

    Im 230 lbs and there aren’t alot of big guys like me in my gym so I focus purely on technique and not using my strength or my size as an advantage. This gets me plenty of reps with smaller guys/gals in higher belts. I’ve been getting tapped alot but Im still learning.

    • @0b3ryn29
      @0b3ryn29 2 роки тому +4

      This is the way. You will get more reps in so you'll build more cardio and get more and better feedback. Your taps/mistakes will be ingrained in your mind so you will make less of them. You'll think more clearly because you're not gassed out from using your strength.

      Im 6”3’ 216 lbs. Second day of BJJ, big fat 260 lbs purple belt told me “fight like a small guy. Don’t rely on your size. Small guys whoop ass.” He was right!

    Shout out to 'Big Josh'.... really nice roll from both players and I feel though he could have, he didn't use his size/strengh advantage (and was also clearly playing with a stomach injury). Enjoying the content from you 'Little Josh' ;). Keep it up.

  • @guam58

    You have an awesome foundation. I am a newly promoted blue belt, but can tell I have long way to go to get to your blue belt level. I am a Marcelo Garcia, Neil Melanson, Silver Fox and Andrew Wilste fan, so I use a lot of their techniques in escapes. I do have to get better at unerstanding leg locks and knee line. I am cognizant of them and haven't yet got caught in one, but I always respect when my partner goes after some sort of 50/50 or foot hold. Great content. I noticed a technique used by Karel Pravec (Silver Fox) that you can get quite a bit and it is the shotgun arm bar. You had it several times when you get side control as their arm is trapped between their head and your near side leg.

    • @JoshRichBJJ
      @JoshRichBJJ  3 роки тому +8

      Thanks man I appreciate the kind words. I actually do go for the shotgun armbar sometimes and you’re right it was definitely open a few times during the roll

    • @guam58
      @guam58 3 роки тому +1

      @@JoshRichBJJ with leg locks do you try to control at least one leg? And, with the knee line do you try to get your knee passed their hips or better yet their butt?

    • @JoshRichBJJ
      @JoshRichBJJ  3 роки тому +5

      @@guam58 There are different leg lock positions that require different defenses, when I'm escaping ashi (single leg x) or double outside ashi I try controlling at least one leg to break their control and to stop them from re attacking. But I don't do that for honey hole( inside senkaku) for example. With the knee line I just try to get it so that my knee isn't between their legs, so basically passed their hips. Hope that makes sense

    • @guam58
      @guam58 2 роки тому

      @@JoshRichBJJ yes definitely our gym is known for leglocks, but have been concentrating in my defense, sweeps and pinning control. I have a very good straight ankle lock, but am slowly getting around to heel hooks. I am just learning about the defense of leg locks, so like to get different persepctives.

      I believe that the talent/intelligence aspect of Bjj is vastly overlooked. Some people just have a natural grappling intuition that some people will never posses no matter how long they train. Combat sports are part of a selection of a few sports where you can have beginners excel to world class level in a very limited time. Not sure why this is the case but I do know for sure, some people just have IT
