The real problem isn't reservations. It’s that our country doesn't have enough opportunities for bright students in general. Take NEET as an example: in 2023, over 2.1 million students competed for just 120,000 MBBS seats. That's less than 6% of applicants getting in. Even if reservations didn't exist, the majority of students (from all categories) would still miss out. What we really need is more seats, better colleges, and accessible resources for everyone because removing reservations won't magically solve the problem. Reservations aren't about unfair advantages, the literacy rate for SCs is 66.1% and for STs it's 58.4%, compared to 82.2% for upper castes. Without reservations, these inequalities would only deepen. I know it can feel frustrating when someone with a lower score gets in, but we have to consider the systemic hurdles marginalized students face. Most NEET qualifiers (over 85%) come from private coaching institutes, which many SC/ST students simply can't afford. And even with reservations, they make up less than 15% of students in top institutions like ITs and AllMS, despite having a 22.5% quota. That tells you how much harder they have to fight to even get there. Rather than targeting reservations, we should push for real solutions: more seats, better colleges, and equal access to resources. Blaming marginalized groups for a broken system only distracts from the real problem.
@@dontmisimi you can't just assume that many of us (upper caste) come from private coaching institutes. And what about fees?? Reservation is not a problem there it seems?? We have to literally pay 7-8 lakhs upfront and lower caste can get admitted into top universities with a lower score and paying in what 1000 rupees? These entrance exams are there because of the Indian mass population. More than 65% of the population is st/sc if you are so poor why do these people have so many kids if they can't afford kids. Look at China the Gaokao exam is the most difficult in the world and there are no reservations That's why China's economy is going to cross the USA in some estimated years. I really appreciate how you said we need more resources as the entire Indian education system is rigid.. but again you were saying how it's difficult for them to get into colleges l mean yes it is but our (upper caste) chances are even less than 1%???

We need more people like you who wear their caste as a badge of honor. In my opinion, this video is more relatable than an upper class Brahmin lecturing people about casteism.

Casteism is deeply rooted in indian culture and history but over the years it's meaning has been morphed to support the narratives of political campaigns and for creating an illusion of superiority over the others. There are a lot of minorities who still need the reservation as a means of economic upliftment but the general public need a deeper level of understanding of the same. Kudos to you for discussing this matter
Most caste-politics are about freebies, though? The majority of India isn't upper caste, and the majority isn't as educated or financially well off. There have been systemic problems for centuries, but appealing to vote banks with freebies is a slippery slope. The most caste-superiority politics is done by OBC jaats, ironically.

I am a Rajput, most of my close friends are Brahmins and Rajputs. This was sheer coincidence, we became friends first and asked each other's castes like years later. A friend of ours, a very studious one at that, achieved almost 100% in all the exams he tried, be it competitive or school exams. Later I got to know he's from a lower caste, but the man wanted to prove himself and he did. That he got in on merit 100%, no special treatment, Really surprised me that he was driven to prove himself so bad, can't imagine the remarks he had heard. Not from us, anyway. Still a close friend to this day.
I wish I was like him. I also want prove that I can do it without any advantage. I can understand concepts but I am not able to score. Thankfully my friends do not talk about caste and sh*t at least in front of me. I am studying in good school so that can be a reason. I am really grate full that I got supportive parents specially my father who is professor. As long as I don't talk about my caste everything will go smooth. Right now no one has insulted me on basis of caste and I hope it continues this way and work hard like my upper caste friends (this is first time I have yapped about my caste in internet because of your video).
love your videos, as someone who got good marks 96% in 12th grade and due to my obc reservation, I was able to make it to one of the best economics college in the country. But I saw a sudden shift in the attitude of my other friends as they couldn''t get into top colleges. One even proceed to say that if he were me, he would have never taken admission through reservation. Mind you, I am the first generation woman from my family who even get to go to college. This is so my experience. I am sc with a changed surname and preparing for NEET. My friends on the other hand have no idea about my caste and I often hear them passing casteist remarks and stating how unfortunate they are to be born in an upper caste family. It used to break my heart and I always thought that I'll be taking something away from them if I get selected and they didn't. I discussed it with my father as well and all though he is a DSP yet he faces discrimination from his seniors and folks and he told me to take up every opportunity that I get to make my career. I know that I'll never be able to tell my friends about my caste because of my fear of judgement and discrimination. Edit: Let me adress a few things here for people who don't understand my point. Even if reservation is removed, 98% of you general caste peeps still won't get a government college but I yet don't see enough people holding the government accountable. Although I do understand student's frustration but removing reservation will still keep you frustrated plus you'll have no one to bash when you don't get selected. You're never truly gonna understand caste based discrimination until you are someone from a marginalized category. Having financial success does not mean a person is entirely free from caste-based discrimination. Like I mentioned my father facing discrimination, my uncle's office colleagues not wanting to eat at his house, my cousin sister who wanted to be identified as who she is but latter changed her surname because of the bullying in school are just few examples of discrimination amongst the so called "creamy layered" society. And don't even get me started about 'ch*mar' being an offensive swear word thrown around by people just so casually as if it's not someones literal caste. If it wasn't for reservation I would wouldn't even be able to speak up in front of upper caste people. Not being able to open up about my caste to my friends was less about NEET and more about the fear of being looked down upon and social segregation. Many of you might argue that you'll never discriminate but I can't help but notice caste being mentioned everywhere, from nasty but huge influencers like Rajat Dalal to Instagram bio mentioning "proud kshatriya". Don't get me wrong it's great that you're proud of who you are but then why are you making me feel so inferior that my only way out is to change my identity. I hope that I made myself clear and if you just wanna talk about reservation and never caste discrimination then you can cry about it forever. Even foreigners see and sometimes even mock India for it's rigid caste system (like pewdiepie) but Indians are still either participating in it or just being downright ignorant. If you're still pissed about NEET then hate the game, not the player.
i understand and i was warned against the same because people have such fixed mentalities but it will reveal a lot about “friends” around you. people who know you will know how capable you are, they will respect you beyond stupid things like caste. you don’t need to justify and tell them a sob story about your family’s experiences for them to have basic empathy towards you. be proud of what you are and thats how things will change. it’s the least we can do for the people who have suffered before us and are still suffering.
understand their situation too, you're talking about NEET, which is hell for general category peeps, even 650+ isn't enough nowadays, whereas for SC/ST peeps, even 400 is enough to get in. now obviously, the cutoffs are low because most SC/ST peeps are not in good conditions, but yes, the ones which are, get an unfair advantage, which the general students are frustrated about. i understand this problem very well, by changing surnames, you may avoid some of the remarks you may get, but on the other hand, that leaves no meaning to the "reservation is for representation" agenda, if you can't stand for yourself. all in all, our country has flaws, nothing can be done. edit: (just so y'all know, i'm a general category male)
so many capable students shouldn’t be fighting over a mere number of seats to begin with. it’s not the fault of SC/ST students but the lack of accessible higher education and infrastructure in general. the pressure should be on the government to create more opportunities instead of hating on lower caste students who are literally changing their surnames and identities to not face discrimination. general category students often benefit from cultural capital, access to better guidance, mentorship, and preparatory resources that SC/ST students typically lack. this unseen advantage is rarely acknowledged in such discussions.
ur father is a dsp which means reservation has served its purpose and no way in hell should u be given reservation....but here we are.....u justifying reservation cuz u hear some of the boys in ur class saying 'xyz' truth is no amount of reservation will be of anyuse to you till u suffer from this debilitating case of lack of confidence. same i am from general but my cousin is SC we are of same age and his economic condition is bit better than me . We are good buddies but at a below level I was jealous of him because he had an upper hand both financially and reservation wise and I always used to argue that if the govt. was that concerned about people they should just give reservations to people who are financially weaker thinking that this inequality doesn’t exist because I used to ask him if he faced any and he said no but now seeing that infact this discrimination still exists shocks me in majority parts of India .

It was you getting reservations that pissed off your general category friends, and rightfully so. Your maid's daughter will not get the reservation because people like you who don't NEED reservation, take it, and use it as an unfair advantage. I'm all for reservation as long the creamy layer, especially people with access to the best tutions, books and opportunities, are left out of it. That will help people from lower castes who are actually backward, from rural and underdeveloped places, and not just on paper. Imo, all the 'casteism' that you faced stemmed from watching a rich person with all facilities getting reservation, not actual casteist prejudices. And fyi, someone getting into your dream college with a rank that is triple of yours feels equally bad as the so called casteism you claim to have faced.

U are so true. All my life i have been told by my parents not to tell my caste to the people around me so that i don't have to face discrimination. It's also true that how much my fellow classmates used to talk about being proud of their caste and being told by their upper caste families to not sit or even talk with the lower caste people. Let alone the fact that i was in an ICSE school still i had to see all of this happening around me. Till this day i feel ashamed and my mind goes blank when someone asks me about my caste. The fear that i have is can't be described. Fear of losing the ones who were with me all these years is scary. But i am glad that i have also met few people who doesn't ask me about my caste two minutes in to the conversation , and just loves me for who i am. And Just to show u what living in india being from a lower caste feels like - me and my family lives in a Punjabi colony ( No hate to all the Punjabis out there but what i am going to say is not really Just about you ) so people in my colony always avoid talking with us . Specially the aunties , they always make my mom feel very excluded from all the kitty parties , evening walks, they even avoid talking with my mum . Like just being sweet in front of her but never wanting to include her like a normal human. Not only this but I have heard countless stories from my mother of her being discriminated throughout her life. My mother is is well educated and now she is a teacher, but one thing that is different between my mum and these people is that my mother always teach her students to never discriminate , treat everyone equally no matter the gender or colour. It's really not about the caste it's about the kind of person u are.

Once one of them hatesd this guy for being a teachers pet toh she went "pakka sc st ka hoga mai toh inke kareeb bhi na jau"...and the reservation thing especially people dont consider ki sc st people do get in on the basis of merit as well! Whenever any sort of puja is done, my parents would call themselves lower caste and avoid touching the pandit directly. In the villages of my parents side, being an sc st our community people live at the very end of the village and no one of the upper caste would enter that side. My parents never told my about our caste until i got to know myself and asked about it, I was told not to tell anyone about it. At that time i thought no one could care less about my caste, but i was so wrong. Being rich or poor only affects how openly one is discriminated, if poor youll def be openly targeted and if not people will talk about it behing ur back, either ways u will be discriminated.
Just because some people discriminate based on caste does not mean that you were denied the same education and opportunities as the general students of your class. It's like saying that I was bullied in school because of my darker skin so I should get a reservation... Social discrimination is a sad reality, I agree. But the fact is that discrimination did not lead to opression or denial in education or opportunity. Hence the preferential treatment of reserved castes in selection in higher education and jobs create a unfair playing ground where students with same kind of education are treated differently, hence igniting more discrimination based on reservation and the sense of unfair unequality it gives to the SCs. the village experience you mentioned, I agree is a reality too. But not in Urban India, The above paragraph is in relation to the Urban Indian context, as for the Rural Indian context, I wholeheartedy agree that for the social and economic upliftment of Rural India and the SCs of Rural India, Proper reservations should be given to them because there the discrimination often penetrates their rural schools. But also a wider reservation must also be given to the economically weaker classes of India, because as you said discrimination is open in economically weak societies, where it starts to translates into opressive exclusionary acts. But to equate that with the discrimination of urban India is simply unequal and unjust since in urban settings it's a discrimination that never translates to anything, equal opportunity and education stays.
@@dewy_droplets that's the same as saying jail all men, because majority of criminals are men. But hardly 2 percent of the total male population are criminals
@@mr.d3051 I understand some of your perspective, but caste-based discrimination is deeply rooted and persists even in urban contexts, often in subtle tho impactful ways. Discrimination isn’t just about overt denial of education or opportunities; it even includes systemic and societal barriers that hinder confidence, integration, and access to informal networks critical for growth. Urban India may provide the same textbooks, but the psychological and social setbacks caused by exclusionary attitudes are significant. Reservations aim to address centuries of structural exclusion, not just immediate discrimination. They work to LEVEL a playing field where generational privilege still influences who gets access to opportunities and the influence of the upper caste in high positions. It’s also important to note that many SC/ST individuals succeed on merit, yet they are unfairly labeled as “beneficiaries of reservation,” which perpetuates stigma. Framing reservations as unfair overlooks their role in correcting systemic inequities and risks fueling resentment, which worsens the very discrimination they seek to reduce. Instead, I feel we gotta focus on addressing inequities without undermining the progress made through these policies.
@@CiskoLunar-mk3yw The "jail all men" analogy doesn’t fit here because caste discrimination isn’t about isolated actions but deeply ingrained biases that still exist-even among Gen Z. As you pointed out, people openly discriminate in class and beyond, making judgments based on caste regardless of merit or economic status. Reservations aren’t punishment but a way to level the field for communities that still face systemic bias. It’s not about individuals; it’s about fixing a larger issue.
The funny thing is caste discrimination will never leave India. Even if the entire lower caste population disappears (hypothetically), some other caste would take the lable of being the new 'Lower Caste'. Humans just need a reason to discriminate among themselves. Caste discrimination/reservation is never a issue of economic status, it's a issue of morality.

I'm from OBC I didn't knew about caste system until I moved to India from abroad. Because in school it was quite prevelant to ask about caste for admission, exams etc. When I was abroad we barely know about caste it was just Indians regardless of caste. Caste discrimination will be wiped out only if caste system is removed from India. But no political party has balls to remove caste system from India since it is good for their vote bank politics. Reservation won't solve the issue as its been 70+ years already & there aren't much changes in the society. Discrimination won't exist if other people don't know the caste of other person. Ban caste from matrimonial sites, educational institutions, caste surnames etc. Then we will have real changes. Financial assistance should be given to economically backward families instead. Else we are already witnessing brain drain in India due to many smart talents moving abroad.
I agree with you. the reservation system in educational institutions had led to a cycle of discrimination and hatred wherein the lower caste get benefits due to discrimination and the upper caste discriminate against them because they are favoured and the so the cycle continues.

Thanks a lot for making this video!!!! The generation of our parents had a chance to break these casteism barriers by simply denying the ideology that their parents tried to push on them. But even educated Brahmins of that same generation not only have accepted it but also are actively propagating the same under the guise of "pRoTeCtiNg oUr CuLtUrE". Just like you said at 10:42 that casteism is still around us but better masked. This decision on our parents' part is what is indoctrinating upper caste youth into adhering to the same ideology, especially in these times of high academic and professional pressure where the youth is actively searching for someone to hate for all of their problems and failures. And I can say this about Brahmins because I am one. Casteism is so ingrained into our social lives that my parents had to point out these things behind the backs of our relatives and family to make sure we don't fall into such bs. And they couldn't do so openly because the Chinese whispers would've killed off their professional and social lives in our native state.
I am SC and i live in Tripura, let me tell you what happened with me,when i was 9 years old there was a baisnav seva in our Village,i touched the baisnav when i was playing and he was eating,he got up and went out took cow dung and mixed with water and sprinkled on her,no one said nothing,we are not allowed to go near the Durga puja bhog or touch the pandit directly while he was doing puja, when we moved to the city ,the house owner wont drink even water from our house, thats the condition we are living in i am very eager to leave the country and settle abroad,i have lost belief in both my religion and my country.
its understandable for you to loose faith in your believes but i warn you dont take up a new one.. other faiths are more cruel than your previous one if you deep dive into it
According to Bagavadgita whoever did this kind of discriminatory act to you is the real Ignorant shoodra (untouchable - who can't able to reach his divinity(higher Consiousness like buddha) ) Kings/dictator/politicians use people ignorance to divide and rule them cast is one of that ignorance.
This was a good video. This country really hates conversation about this. You shared your experience about your friends otherizing you when it came to reservations and entrance exams, I have people who I called friends once completely alienate me and they did not hesitate to verbally call out my "privilege", it was so strange, I knew that would happen but it still sucked. Choose your friends wisely, work on yourself !
I'm upper caste poor guy. N when i got to know of reservation in 11th n they mocked my dad once i left them too. They were rich yet took st sc reservation i still don't know which category does Choudhary come in but few of choudhary friends took st sc reservation instead of obc. Rich st sc obc Don't deserve reservation. Thats major reason of college dropouts
Happened in my friend circle, ST people getting into IIM A and IIM B and IIT for management, direct placement from Bachelor course into NTPC, NHOC, BHEL, Power Grid ... grades only 60% 12th marks about 60% I am stuck with some stupid ass job Btech grade 85%, 12th marks 91% .... India life is BS ... so I left the country ... fuck the country ...

But the problem Upper Caste face is that they don't get good branch even after cracking the entrance because of reservation so they leave the country for studies and later do job in that foreign country only.
this was SO NEEDED, I (Sc) myself preparing for NEET see so many ppl only spazzing on reservations saying sc/st are as rich as general and stuff like that but fail to realize that reservations have never been about the lower caste being "financially" equal rather socially
Lmfaooo also so what if few sc's are rich and well to do, not to mention there might be sc's who are rich but rarely if not never a brahmin who is doing manual labour work like working to clean the streets etc... goes to show the proviledge tgey have as well lol
Then where is reservation for africans? Who were enslaved faced apartheid? What's this nonsense then? Where is reservation for ugly indians who get treated like shit in america?🙁 Where is reservation for slit eues chinease who get generalised for eating dogs even if only 5% of them eat😶 Where is reservation for jews? Where is reservation of kashmiri pandits?🙁
Reservations are not making you socially equal they are further broadening the divide, If I got into a cllg at score 650 I can never see someone with 450 as my equal
So glad to see more people of our generation talking about casteism. It is such a deep rooted problem and avoided by those who don't directly experience the horrors it has inflicted. Being from a Malayali Christian family, I myself never came to realise the depths of casteism that is still prevalent. My family never covered caste or even most societal issues for that matter. But, as I grew up, seeing the unfairness of Indian society made me delve deeper into the topic and realise how much casteism still affects literally every single part of the country. Now, living in the center of Urban Bangalore, just seeing how almost all of the BBMP workers, who wake up early every morning to clean the shit, literal and metaphorical, that the urban upper caste throw out every day are of lower caste, it makes me realise that caste has never left us. It will never go away, until we develop an education system which properly tackles societal issues including casteism, and until the government develops better reforms to help aid those that truly suffer from the caste system.
As an upper cast ,I agree casteism exists in India. But how is it fair to give reservation to already rich st/sc people? What kind of compensation is this? How is that gonna fix anything?!? Thats just unfair to us?!? Why are you geeting a reservation w a lower grade than me when I am the one w less money here.....? And I didnt even do anything?!? I was never mean to someone w a lower caste. Infact I didnt even care about all this until I found out about reservation...So yall also cant deny that your cast benefits you too.
Not being mean to someone from the lower caste is the bare minimum ma'am. I get where you are coming from, seeing someone getting lower grades and still get into your dream uni, but even then you cannot deny the fact that people from low caste are being discriminated against even in todays world.. Just because you didn't see that happening doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Reservations exist for a reason, India before (and still is) was very biased towards the upper caste, there was a time when people from lower caste couldn't even touch the upper caste, let alone get the same opportunities as them, can you imagine how it would feel?
@ananyanair2182 But reservation isnt the solution to discrimination tho??? Like is it stopping anything ?NO. So why is it still going on? Only the economically backwards should get reservation not the rich ones.bevause liek I said earlier,WHAT KIND OF COMPENSATION IS THIS?
@ananyanair2182 Reservation only make people more casteist .Most upper caste youth doesnt even care about all this bs of hierarchy in caste and all.But they will still pass on casteist remarks to let their frustration out.
Start marrying in lower castes, the scenario will change. The same people who complain about reservations, wouldn't marry their children to lower caste officers.
Your videos are too good and bold. Love your content and the fact that you neither commented on any caste or if someone's behavior is right or wrong and left the audience to see the right or wrong is appreciable
A friend of mine narrated an incident wherein his so-called upper caste colleague berated another so-called lower caste colleague saying, " At home, we won't even share the same table with the likes of you". Hopefully, awareness would root out casteism someday.
@@Vk9970-p3bbecause if there was no reservation then lower caste people won't have the chances to earn money they have right now. Like the person said how the upper class treated his colleague shows he is just tolerating the person because of reservation system.
One thing I want to add. People who says castism only exist in rural india, just google castism in top companies in google, apple , netflix etc that to in USA. Because when upper caste go their they take their castist mindset with them.
Bruhh if congress doesnt have a parsi mp it doesn't mean congress doesn't support parsi's it just comes out to be that they don't have parsi mp. The same is with jobs just because it comes out to be that upper caste people are seated in good posts doesn't mean that they gone till there by Casteism
From a completely logical standpoint : people from "upper" castes have nothing to do with this shi. It's just that those people working for those companies have enough money to work abroad. I am half upper caste and I don't have the money to work or study abroad, yet I can't apply for FAIR scholarships without hoping someone less deserving got the scholarship just because they're lower so they get more pity from the education board. Why? What did I do? By your victim mindset, this isn't castism though is it? 🙂
Whenever i play someone playing the cast card, no matter it's upper or lower cast, I play the Hindu card. Whenever i was see someone saying "I am Brahmin, i am Dalit" i always say one thing to them .. *Are you a Brahmin/Dalit first or a Hindu first?* . I recieve either a dead silence or them saying "Yes I am a Hindu first".
Good to see younger folk talking about such issues. Caste cannot be eradicated only by reservation. Social dialogue like this is also equally important. Keep up the good work.

great video, i am a tamil and i am glad that social reformers in my state have made sure that people simply don't use any surnames. surnames can be really discriminatory for a lot people in our indian society. luckily I have never faced these types of discrimination or racism in my life, even my friends have never cared about each others surnames. Yes of course some of my so-called upper class friends get really upset when someone else gets the opportunity for higher studies but they still know that when you only have such little seats in college, less opportunities overall then it is the government's fault for this. I can only hope for time where there is equal opportunities for everyone to get into your desired institute
Growing up, I didn't really know much about caste, but I was always aware that my parents' relatives were poor. My father had the opportunity to work in the central government thanks to reservations. I didn't face much discrimination because of his hard work, but I still heard remarks like, "Tujhe toh achi college mil jayegi", when applying for colleges. I got into a really good college in Gujarat, but that's when I started feeling outcast. Our roll numbers were assigned based on merit; with a total strength of over 300, the students were divided into five groups. The first two groups were those who got into the college through JEE, and groups 3 and 4 were those who got in through ACPC/Gujcet. I was in group 4. I often heard my juniors make fun of people from groups 3&4 for not knowing proper English, as most were from the Gujarat state board. Even though I was a CBSE student, hearing those comments was very humiliating. Throughout my life, people kept asking me what kind of "Patel" I was, only for me to realize later that they were actually asking about my caste. I can't really complain much-I had a privileged life thanks to my dad. But sometimes, I'm reminded of the differences when I see others living the kind of life I might have had if my family's background were different. Great video, though! I would like to add a few things about how we can see casteism on social media, too. People from lower backgrounds are often labeled "chapri" and are constantly mocked for the way they dress and present themselves. A lot of it might seem cringey, but calling something "cringe" and calling it "chapri" are very different, in my opinion.
You used reservation to get into a college you didn't deserved, snatched someone else's seat who must have been way better than you, and now you cry that they don't put in a pedestal in your college and they divide based on merit why won't they?? You want reservation in everyday life as well as much as you can right ???? Way to create an inefficient nation.
i want to thank you for talking about this cuz i've never seen someone talk about it so open mindedly. im grateful i found your channel, i relate to it a lot and this video is just the one where i felt like "is she talking bout me?" lol
as a sindhi teen from general category, I'm glad Sindhi Hindus, atleast in India have never adhered to the caste system or maybe some do, idk. maybe it's because of the incredibly low population of us in india but i digress. growing up, we never had caste discussions in our household but ig my family, unfortunately is against the caste based reservations because identifying ourselves by "caste" is such an alien thing for sindhi hindus. we tend to bond over our language and ethnicity only. i still dont know nor care if I'm a brahmin or kshatriya or vaishya whatever lol. thank you sm misimi for making a video on such an important yet neglected topic like this.
Sindhis do have communities, but they’re more like sedentary tribes than “castes” because Sindh (and also Punjab) are peripheral regions where brahmanical authority is not that strong. Many of these Punjabi and Sindhi tribes like Khatris, Jatts, Kambojas actually migrated from further north in Central Asia or Afghanistan after the establishment of the Varna system in the sub-continent. They don’t traditionally have any position in the “caste” hierarchy but some, like Khatris, accepted brahmanical authority later on, for which they got a “Kshatriya status” despite being merchants by profession. Irony is, the most casteist group, Rajputs, are actually composed of peasants and tribals who managed to acquire land and accepted brahmanical authority. The Brahmins gave them “Kshatriya” status and made up imaginary lineages connecting them to actual kings who were called Rajput (son of King).
honestly speaking, my both parents have a very stable government job thanks to reservation but despite that they get discriminated against other employees rather directly or indirectly and the thing is you can't even do anything about it thankfully when we moved (it's a tier 2 city) it was a lot better considering the people of my caste were way common here than in my hometown. And also there was this one time we got rejected from renting a house just because of our caste and my parents had always taught me never to tell my surname untill it's specified abd just go with Kumar/Kumari just for the sake to avoid castism
This is exactly what I mean when I say reservation is only making casteism worse, You expect people to be nice to you after knowing you barely tried for the job they put their blood sweats and tear to get.
Sorry for the upcoming rant you're about to witness. I am a 17 yr old guy in 11th grade from Jharkhand(which is a tribal state) , and since the day everyone found out that there's a thing called reservation(T_T) they started to just joke about it everyday, it was fine at first until the " Chamaar, dalit, stuff, yk how it goes. I am not even from this religion, my family follows sarna which is a tribal religion worshipping nature ( that's pretty chill). It feels ironic getting discriminated by outsiders in ur own indigenous land but ok. I was always the best in maths and science related stuff in my school and my classmates often complimented for it, but now they just say "why do u need this u are ST🤡" (I don't, I am not gonna jse reservation) I belong from an affluent family (top 3-5%) but they don't care about money when they see the caste I guess lol. This also made me just hate religious people(judge me if u want, but they're the one doing this so what else should I do? )
I am an sc student, and I've felt guilty for so long because I got into iit, and my friends with better scores didn't. being in an iit, I've always felt so dumb compared to my counterparts, but apparently, there is hidden casteism that happens even here. reservation is definitely needed, but I also understand the hate a general student with a good score might feel for losing out . I loved your video; please keep coming up with more.
Atleast you are understanding where the hate and despise is coming from,, reservation is based on punishing bramhins for what there ancestors did centuries ago it's the same as say your great grandfather commited a crime but now since he is no more here govt puts you in jail and says your grandfather did so and so which sounds ridiculous but reservation is even worse than that

I discovered what castism is like im college fr. To me, its insane how people, people we look up to or people who i assumed to be wise and old can so easily discriminate on the basis of where you were born, its like logic and morals just left the chat. My own parents discriminate, and when i questioned/challenged these opinions they would just mellow it out saying "you wont understand now, just know youre lucky '
I hope that made u realise that reservation can get u college easily but won't finish castism. So reservation is not helping. Alone education can help to finish castism N if u think st sc r poor then welcome to economic based reservation
As a muslim i can only say that appeasement politics and increasing reservation just so politicians can catch more votes isnt going to stop discrimination. I have seen muslims in my community having severe hate for people from sc/st and its increasing only just because of all this appeasement politics towards them. Reservation and caste is nothing but a way for politicians to gain more votes(atleast now, it started for a good cause)now and they hype this up enough Which creates more hate within the community. Casteism will only stop in India the day politicians will find they cant get votes on caste and allat

Yet the Richie richs can go to any college they wish for. Academically good SC/ST students are not my issue, cause they're hardworking. I HAVE A ISSUE WITH UNDESERVING CASTE STUDENTS. Thankyou
@dontmisimi didn't you even read my comment? Or are you trying to ignore what everyone's saying? Seems like you're too stubborn to accept the fact what everyone's trying to say. Kindly talk about the students who deserve a mediocre college but manage to get into good colleges just due to caste. Please talk about students who don't get govt colleges because waha toh 40% SC aur STs jayenge. Talk about students who've worked their ass off for a good college, but SCs toh pehle aa jaate hai! If you're a genuinely good student and from a decent background, you wouldn't need a caste certificate. Govt jobs mein SC/STs kaa jaldi promotion hota hai. Koi idea hai aapko?
The poor ones with reservation will never get hate. The hate is received by upper/upper-middle class people who still use their reservation certificates to get admissions or jobs, or even, scholarships. If my father earns 6-7 lakhs per annum, why tf would i need a scholarship(based on caste)? And what about a genuine general caste student who's father earns slightly more than the EWS quota, uska kya hoga? Wo kaise afford karega?
talking about being stubborn, did YOU even watch my video? i don’t need my experiences or my family’s experiences to be validated by you. and these things are already addressed in my pinned comment. it’s not like i expect you to understand anyway

Same happened with me during entrance exams for higher education. All merit goes out of the window when reservation is brought forward, the worst part is that since it is such an integral part of the Hindu social fabric it is hard to dismantle. i used to think educating this generation on caste will bring some change but something instilled through family values is hard to counter. Coexisting in a caste hierarchy is impossible without subjugation of the oppressed caste people and people from the oppressor caste will always feel that any attempt to bring equality is infringing on their religious right to be superior. When you've been privileged for too long, equality feels like oppression.
I was not expecting much from this video by a someone around my age, till i watched. As i saw the title my mind went "oh girlie, you sure you wanna talk about??" But damn, though short, but you covered several topics and this is not a easy tppic to talk about, especially to urbanite gen z audience who were taught a out caste prejuidice as a thing of past (tbh must of us were sleeping in those social sci classes) and like to whine "caste based reservation is useless, let's remove it", the bare % of a majority group (bahujans) you see in schools/institutes is very much because of caste based reservation, if it wasn't for reservation, you would NEVER have a president from Adivasi because casteism is sooo darn strong and normative. Reservations is basically there to unsure the represention of a the chunk of Indian population which it has been denied for 2000+ years. Hats off to you @dontmisimi for sharing your own part of the story, it js definitely not easy to speak about this to a gen z audience, especially as a person who herself is from the very background
The MAIN problem: There is NO GENERAL SEAT RESERVATION, ITS OPEN SEAT ( MEANS ANYONE GEN ST SC OBC CAN GET IT ) generals are many times offended because they also want equal pedestral, cause suppose 70 percent is reserved, then 30 percent is open in also which ST SC OBC can get seats but general cannot.
so do you think we should have reservation for every category? Go and look up the % of people in general category. And go and read the reason why reservation is given. And one more thing, there isn't 70 % reservation, not in atleast the state i live(gujarat), and there are some states with such reservation, but there is reserved seats for some other category people also. And if you are gonna count 10% EWS seats and women category, then you should know that those are not on main seats but there are more seats added for such categories.
Thats only in theory, most general seats are always filled by generals and plus you have ews too. SC have 15% reservation, their population is more than that, ST have 7% reservation their population is more than that, OBC have 27% reservation and their population is double of that. I dont think any reserved category is eating generals pie. Its all about representation and also dont forget EWS
It's really insightful i was born in a upper caste family (not Brahmin) and in a city due to which I never knew anything about caste and my parents were also progressive because they never mentioned anything about caste and saw every one as equal, always in my childhood the Prasad of our home temple would be eaten by watchmen, maid etc from the same plate we used to eat
If your parents didn't educate you about caste, they were not progressive. They were just fine with their privilege. Go ahead and bring home a dalit friend with his home cooked food. You'll find out how progressive your parents are. This is how I found out about mine.
@thomascromwell6840 so what do you expect them to tell me that the maid which comes to clean our house is of lower caste, instead of dividing people through caste they taught me to see everyone as equal and each one is a normal human being like us.
@@GamingCoc-o7e and there's the caste privilege. Guess your parents were casteist after all. Thank you sooooo much for talking about this issue i have always observed the people around me doing the same things as you mentioned in your video , i am also sc but i was well off and studied in a good school and the first conception of caste was given to me by my cs teacher (not in a bad way) then some a classmate was saying something about my caste and overheard her and i realised that and i was broken i asked my mom obviously she tried to protect me and as i grow older , ended my entrance preps and im in college now still my classmates talk about it and i overhear them and it breaks me , im quite sensitive so i start to slowly distance myself if they speak minutely bad about caste. I was so afraid that maybe i couldnt explore this topic as a conversation with people i want but your video and your thoughts gave me courage to do so , i love your content keep posting queen ❤❤❤❤
Living in urban area i have to face casteism Im my school my Brahmin friends used to tell me how they are superior from other lower castes Idk why they think they are superior as if they were created from some special part of the universe 😂😂
The actual solution is redistribution of property and breakdown of caste through educational programmes without the influence of parents who are still the people who indoctrinate children into caste the most. This is how other democracies ended the feudal hierarchy. Reservation is a bandaid. You don't want to solve the problem, you want to take off the bandaid.
Indian reservations were introduced as a **tool for social upliftment**, not primarily financial upliftment. They are aimed at addressing centuries of **social discrimination and inequality**, particularly the caste system, which marginalized certain communities like Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). This systemic exclusion from education, employment, and political representation significantly hindered their ability to participate equally in society. ### Key Points to Highlight: 1. **Focus on Equality of Opportunity**: - Before reservations, marginalized communities were systematically excluded from educational institutions, government jobs, and societal privileges. The reservation policy was designed to level the playing field by **ensuring access to opportunities** that were previously denied. 2. **Educational Access**: - Reservation policies ensure that underprivileged communities have **access to quality education**, which empowers individuals to break the cycle of poverty and discrimination. Education leads to upward social mobility over generations, benefiting the community as a whole. 3. **Representation in Government**: - Historically, communities like SCs and STs had little to no representation in legislative bodies or government jobs. Reservations ensure **political and administrative representation**, giving these communities a voice in decision-making processes. 4. **Social Empowerment Over Financial Assistance**: - Reservations are not handouts but **affirmative action** to correct historical injustices. They do not provide direct financial assistance but create pathways to education and employment, leading to **self-sufficiency and empowerment**. 5. **Example of Impact**: - Studies and examples show that **first-generation beneficiaries** of reservation often lift entire families and communities. Their success inspires others to strive for education and employment, fostering **intergenerational progress**. 6. **Global Precedents**: - Affirmative action policies exist worldwide, including in the USA (for racial minorities), South Africa, and Brazil. These policies recognize that systemic inequalities require systemic solutions, similar to India’s reservation system. --- ### Addressing Criticisms: While some argue that reservations should be based on financial status, caste-based discrimination is independent of economic class. An economically well-off individual from a marginalized caste still faces **social stigma and barriers** that reservations seek to address. --- ### References: 1. Ive had similar conversations with my friends back in highschool and they were pretty much ignorant about urban casteism and were like pretty anti reservation. When i spoke against it, they kinda sidelined me and were like "oh my god youre a creamy layer obc why do you care?" and to top it off i was called woke and what not for simply like stating that casteism is still a big thing. THANK YOU FOR MAKING A VIDEO ON THIS!!
Hi there, I'm genuinely sorry to everyone who's going through or has went through humiliation solely because of their caste, this is actually really sad and it is still a raging issue imo. Caste system is definitely still operating in our society. I know this obvious acknowledgement of facts doesn't do jackshit for people facing discrimination but yeah I just had to put it out there. But from the reservation viewpoint, I would still say that there should be another way figured out to give representation to people. In college admissions, my friend who'd scored a 97.2% in 12th grade could not get into her dream college but people from the reserved category scoring less than even 90% did. This is just one anecdote. I'm in no way invaldating or trying to invalidate their hardwork and their experiences but my friend deserved it so much? I don't think that reservation is leaving our country anytime soon, because in our country even political parties base their claims on caste politics instead of actually doing things that would end caste discrimination. At the end of the day, when I criticize the caste system, I will be criticising the reservation system too (atleast in current times) for it has placed yet another distinction in our lives, based on caste. Anyway, I hope we can agree to disagree on this, I'd love to hear more about about such topics from a different point of view than my own! Great work :)
Hi, first of all, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate you being open to this discussion. I get where you’re coming from about your friend, but I’d like to share a different perspective on reservations. It IS unfair that your friend couldn’t get in. The real problem isn’t reservations. it’s that our country doesn’t have enough opportunities for bright students in general. Take NEET as an example: in 2023, over 2.1 million students competed for just 120,000 MBBS seats. That’s less than 6% of applicants getting in. Even if reservations didn’t exist, the majority of students (from all categories) would still miss out. What we really need is more seats, better colleges, and accessible resources for everyone because removing reservations won’t magically solve the problem. Reservations aren’t about unfair advantages, the literacy rate for SCs is 66.1% and for STs it’s 58.4%, compared to 82.2% for upper castes. Without reservations, these inequalities would only deepen. I know it can feel frustrating when someone with a lower score gets in, but we have to consider the systemic hurdles marginalized students face. Most NEET qualifiers (over 85%) come from private coaching institutes, which many SC/ST students simply can’t afford. And even with reservations, they make up less than 15% of students in top institutions like IITs and AIIMS, despite having a 22.5% quota. That tells you how much harder they have to fight to even get there. Rather than targeting reservations, we should push for real solutions: more seats, better colleges, and equal access to resources. Blaming marginalized groups for a broken system only distracts from the real problem. I shared a bunch of numbers so that it is more convincing, hope you understand and thanks for watching and being open minded!
@dontmisimi yeah absolutely every one of us is doomed, there are multiple factors at play when we talk about the advantages that "upper caste" individuals get ( for instance as you mentioned, literacy rate). And I agree that we should not blame or bash the people from reserved categories who are getting opportunities as it's really not their fault. If I had the opportunity, I would use it to my advantage too. I completely agree with you about the lack of seats and ample opportunities for meritorious individuals anyway. It is important that we as people seek each other's perspectives and understand each other's situations to find a common ground. Thanks for being so nice and you're pretty awesome!!
@@dontmisimi In a country with such extreme population density, I don't think you can ask for more seats. Yes, 'we need more IITs IIMs AIIMS'-like institutions, but they have a right to select from the cream of the crop. I have seen many schoolmates who were well off put off studying and participate more in gundagardi just because they knew they had an easy in into a government college. Rich Jaat OBC people. What are you thoughts on a deep financial survey and boosting EWS reservation to 30%? No other reservation based on caste. The black people in America know it best: the more you mention it, the longer it lingers. The financially disadvantaged upper and lower castes both get the help they need, the zamindars are filtered. Popping up many more colleges won't help as their will always be a pecking order, preference for the top 1%. The problem of India is overpopulation, and most census data will tell you that the fertility late of General caste people is well below replacement (2 kids per household). It has been like this for decades, poor people pumping out more offspring than they can afford for more hands in manual labour, and the like. We need to educate people like these, maybe even implement Indira-Rajiv Gandhi-esque family planning rules. Whoever deserves an in, needs to score. Unless you're poor and can't afford coaching, then you get relaxed cutoffs and that's it. Does this system make sense?
@@dontmisimi the real problem is reservation if the number of seats is so low then priority should be given to the one who scored higher marks . But due to reservation the one who scored higher marks didn't got admission and the one who was less qualified got admission
@@dontmisimi Like you said there aren't enough opportunities in this country. so reservation is adding more burden. Of course not all people will get into best colleges if you remove reservation but at least people wont be frustrated that someone with lower score got into dream college just cuz he was from lower cast ? Isnt that discrimination against upper castes new generation people who probably have not discriminated anyone based on their caste ? If reservations are removed then at least we can be sure that deserving ones are getting in but nope politicians still wants to play castes card
@@smerdyakov_11 that is exactly what upper caste people were getting historically in India. Selective privileges. And now that lower caste people get to have an education these people feel threatened. Reservation is so that both upper and lower caste people have the same starting line; because most of the times, upper caste people have many advantages over their lower caste counterparts.

I feel that I have to do something that can prove that I am worthy and I can achieve things without reservation.
You definitely wouldn't be credited. If you scored the same amount of marks as your peers, you would be in a even better college. This alone speaks volumes.
I haven't finished this video but u are so brave for being rational and educated about this topic on a public platform lol. I am a general category student who is legally from a dominant caste but half of my family fall under the reserved category. Living with upper class/assimilated SC family memebers is so weird, in the sens ethat they are proud of ppl like Babasahed but will also parrot right wing propaganda and be ashamed of their own heritage and tell us younger ones to hide our caste background. Unlearning generational self hatred takes hard work lol
It’s absolutely infuriating how the concept of caste has been twisted into something entirely different from what it was originally meant to signify in Hinduism. i was born into a so-called "Brahmin" family but that doesn’t automatically make me a true Brahmin. The literal meaning of being a Brahmin is being a scholar and the pursuit knowledge, it is not smth in lineage or birthright. By that standard, I cannot yet claim to be one, as my understanding remains limited since i’ve only studied two or three scriptures so far. This distortion of caste has stripped it of its true meaning, turning what was once a system based on qualities (guna) and actions (karma) into an oppressive and divisive hierarchy. It’s a betrayal of the values our scriptures upheld, where one’s worth was determined by their deeds and character, not their birth. This manmade custom has consistently undermined its true religious essence.
the only thing i'm kinda eh about caste system is that so many undeserving candidates get seats due to reservation. i'm not talking about the sc/st/obc ppl who actually work hard, i'm talking abt those who take advantage of the caste system. i have seen so many people illegally change their caste using connections which is so fucked up. i'm muslim so i fall into general category but whatever i don't really care. in my opinion, college entrance exams shouldn't have reservations, it should only be based on merit. on the other hand, job placements wtvr it is called should have reservations because obviously interviewers can be prejudiced against lower castes.
It will only benifit general caste they accept only on merit basis because majority sc st , basically 90% are still gutter cleaner according to india today article and can't afford expensive coaching and other things which boost their applications like extra curricular and olympiads and for that you need to be in a top level school which is again inaccessible to majority sc st and it give a direct benifit to only general caste so it's very stu*id to say that only admission should be on merit.

Thank you for shedding light on this important topic Misimi. I wish you strength and happiness. I deeply resonate with your thoughts, as this issue is incredibly prevalent yet often overlooked. As a design graduate with a Master's degree from IIT Kanpur, I have witnessed its reality and the profound impact it can have on one's life. Fortunately, I’ve been fortunate to meet remarkable individuals who recognized my merit and potential beyond caste biases. However, I’ve also encountered others who casually dismissed me in ways one wouldn’t even anticipate. Let’s continue striving for equality, standing up for every individual, and dismantling the superficial notion of so-called ‘pure blood’ superiority. At our core, we are all the same.

This issue of caste is also the root for the colorism that exists in our country. I belong from an uppercaste family. Since childhood I have seen my parents working really hard to earn. So much so that they brought us from a status of a lower middle class family to somewhat above an upper middle class family (according to a town lifestyle). What I have noticed is that my parents were really good at making family level connections with people from different work background, be it from a SP to a catering person. I myself believe that along with their hardwork, this one factor is also something that contributed alot in making my parents work life more smoothe. I always wonder that whether a lower caste person would be able to do the same because of society prejudices. Would love to have other people opinion regarding this thought. Also in my personal opinion I think that no matter what the competitive exam is,reservations no matter whether on the basis of caste, religion, gender, economic background etc should not be applied to students who gets the highest scorings in exams according to the paper difficulty level, because those are some extraordinary students and deserve to be in the top colleges.
my family is upper caste and it's wild how much upper caste people will say the most casteist shit you've heard in your life and then in the same breath say casteism doesn't exist. the strangest thing is they will genuinely insist that they are the ones oppressed by the caste system. what privileged groups fail to understand is their privilege isn't necessarily having a leg up in life. sometimes it's the absence of barriers that other people are facing. like as an upper caste person you could be dirt poor but you are never going to have to worry about facing caste based violence. because you are upper caste and therefore privileged withint his system. this is what a lot of upper caste people who feel like they've had a terrible lot in life fail to understand and they make it everyone else's problem with the "it's not that i am privileged, it's that you didn't work hard" argument. as for reservations, i think the reservation system is a haphazard temporary fix for a very permanent problem (and yes, i know there are those few sc/st people who are actually super rich. i am not talking about them). the problem is casteism. it's not going to be fixed by having reservations. it's like if your house flooded and someone gave you a boat. it keeps you from drowning but it doesn't actually fix the problem. we need to fix all the systemic inequalities that caste based discrimination has caused in india AND we need to counter the pervasive casteist attitudes that people have. and when we've dealt with all of that the reservations will become irrelevant and we will be able to discard that system because we will actually be living in an equitable society.
U are not so very right bout first part Brahmans are the one who get blamed for all this even tho we r 5%. And yeh go visit south india there u will se how much brahmans face discrimination quite a lot a st sc can get u locked jus with his statement n no prove if u r not very wise. khstriya in south india aren't same as north they no more exist like they casually us obc surnames so it's pointless. And yes reservation is not ginna finish castism. It will even further increase castism like bro i know many people who will still eat out at the thela of st sc yet they mock for what? For injustice system do u really think generally people in 2024 r gonna be a discriminative a$$holes like come on we are all eating out do we ask caste? No. Then wtf it's only crucial in marriage part so let's be honest even st sc themselves don't marry in a bit different caste . So why bother so much people in love will do in some times anyways
All these top comments made me question one thing. Are the reservations actually helping the lower caste? From what I can see in the comments, these reservations are fueling even more hate from the upper castes towards the lower castes. Is this the actual solution to combat casteism?

A friend of ours, a very studious one at that, achieved almost 100% in all the exams he tried, be it competitive or school exams. Later I got to know he's from a lower caste, but the man wanted to prove himself and he did.
If you're still pissed about NEET then hate the game, not the player.
i understand and i was warned against the same because people have such fixed mentalities but it will reveal a lot about “friends” around you. people who know you will know how capable you are, they will respect you beyond stupid things like caste. you don’t need to justify and tell them a sob story about your family’s experiences for them to have basic empathy towards you. be proud of what you are and thats how things will change. it’s the least we can do for the people who have suffered before us and are still suffering.
understand their situation too, you're talking about NEET, which is hell for general category peeps, even 650+ isn't enough nowadays, whereas for SC/ST peeps, even 400 is enough to get in. now obviously, the cutoffs are low because most SC/ST peeps are not in good conditions, but yes, the ones which are, get an unfair advantage, which the general students are frustrated about.
i understand this problem very well, by changing surnames, you may avoid some of the remarks you may get, but on the other hand, that leaves no meaning to the "reservation is for representation" agenda, if you can't stand for yourself.
all in all, our country has flaws, nothing can be done.
edit: (just so y'all know, i'm a general category male)
so many capable students shouldn’t be fighting over a mere number of seats to begin with. it’s not the fault of SC/ST students but the lack of accessible higher education and infrastructure in general. the pressure should be on the government to create more opportunities instead of hating on lower caste students who are literally changing their surnames and identities to not face discrimination. general category students often benefit from cultural capital, access to better guidance, mentorship, and preparatory resources that SC/ST students typically lack. this unseen advantage is rarely acknowledged in such discussions.
i totally agree with you.

Casteism on the Indian internet at least wasn't as common in the early days (i.e. 2019 and before) The democratization of the internet brought the most regressive illiterate people online.
Fr, been using internet since MTNL days and Indian internet communities weren't this toxic. Jio revolution should've never happened. No wonder why we get cooked so bad in the rest of the world
It was always there, earlier people used to have shame and they were good at masking the casteism but due to emergence of dark humor and dank memes everyone became comfortable showing their true side and hence the casteist memes.

The sad part is the big companies and govt never take these seriously. Make a joke on religion and you're immediately behind bars. Make a joke on someone's caste/gender you're cool.
Earlier before jio, broadband internet was a luxury and there weren't many lower caste people on the internet anyways, so there was nothing to be casteist against online.

The most weird thing is when people claim to be Brahmin or Kshatriya despite not even knowing who their great grandparents were
@@dewy_droplets that's the same as saying jail all men, because majority of criminals are men.

great video, i am a tamil and i am glad that social reformers in my state have made sure that people simply don't use any surnames. surnames can be really discriminatory for a lot people in our indian society. luckily I have never faced these types of discrimination or racism in my life, even my friends have never cared about each others surnames.
But how are you all so rich?
honestly speaking, my both parents have a very stable government job thanks to reservation but despite that they get discriminated against other employees rather directly or indirectly and the thing is you can't even do anything about it thankfully when we moved (it's a tier 2 city) it was a lot better considering the people of my caste were way common here than in my hometown.

Reservations is basically there to unsure the represention of a the chunk of Indian population which it has been denied for 2000+ years.
Hats off to you @dontmisimi for sharing your own part of the story, it js definitely not easy to speak about this to a gen z audience, especially as a person who herself is from the very background
The MAIN problem:
There is NO GENERAL SEAT RESERVATION, ITS OPEN SEAT ( MEANS ANYONE GEN ST SC OBC CAN GET IT ) generals are many times offended because they also want equal pedestral, cause suppose 70 percent is reserved, then 30 percent is open in also which ST SC OBC can get seats but general cannot.
so do you think we should have reservation for every category? Go and look up the % of people in general category. And go and read the reason why reservation is given. And one more thing, there isn't 70 % reservation, not in atleast the state i live(gujarat), and there are some states with such reservation, but there is reserved seats for some other category people also. And if you are gonna count 10% EWS seats and women category, then you should know that those are not on main seats but there are more seats added for such categories.
What about EWS???
Thats only in theory, most general seats are always filled by generals and plus you have ews too. SC have 15% reservation, their population is more than that, ST have 7% reservation their population is more than that, OBC have 27% reservation and their population is double of that. I dont think any reserved category is eating generals pie. Its all about representation
and also dont forget EWS

Castism is a issue but reservation never could be a solution.
🤣🤣🤣 do u think ur eligible enough to make a comment or give a solution for this issue
Reservation was never Financial Upliftment Scheme
It was for Social Upliftment Scheme
But Upper caste never let a Chance to be jealous
Then what is the solution?
Indian reservations were introduced as a **tool for social upliftment**, not primarily financial upliftment. They are aimed at addressing centuries of **social discrimination and inequality**, particularly the caste system, which marginalized certain communities like Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). This systemic exclusion from education, employment, and political representation significantly hindered their ability to participate equally in society.
### Key Points to Highlight:
1. **Focus on Equality of Opportunity**:
- Before reservations, marginalized communities were systematically excluded from educational institutions, government jobs, and societal privileges. The reservation policy was designed to level the playing field by **ensuring access to opportunities** that were previously denied.
2. **Educational Access**:
- Reservation policies ensure that underprivileged communities have **access to quality education**, which empowers individuals to break the cycle of poverty and discrimination. Education leads to upward social mobility over generations, benefiting the community as a whole.
3. **Representation in Government**:
- Historically, communities like SCs and STs had little to no representation in legislative bodies or government jobs. Reservations ensure **political and administrative representation**, giving these communities a voice in decision-making processes.
4. **Social Empowerment Over Financial Assistance**:
- Reservations are not handouts but **affirmative action** to correct historical injustices. They do not provide direct financial assistance but create pathways to education and employment, leading to **self-sufficiency and empowerment**.
5. **Example of Impact**:
- Studies and examples show that **first-generation beneficiaries** of reservation often lift entire families and communities. Their success inspires others to strive for education and employment, fostering **intergenerational progress**.
6. **Global Precedents**:
- Affirmative action policies exist worldwide, including in the USA (for racial minorities), South Africa, and Brazil. These policies recognize that systemic inequalities require systemic solutions, similar to India’s reservation system.
---
### Addressing Criticisms:
While some argue that reservations should be based on financial status, caste-based discrimination is independent of economic class. An economically well-off individual from a marginalized caste still faces **social stigma and barriers** that reservations seek to address.

By emphasizing **social justice** over financial assistance, reservations ensure a more inclusive and equitable society.
Selective privilege gives birth to a society of untapped horror
@@smerdyakov_11 that is exactly what upper caste people were getting historically in India. Selective privileges. And now that lower caste people get to have an education these people feel threatened. Reservation is so that both upper and lower caste people have the same starting line; because most of the times, upper caste people have many advantages over their lower caste counterparts.

I am open about my caste and religion. I have been discriminated against in school and still i get taunts like why do you people get reservation? You cannot be intelligent like us, Bhimte, lower castes have lowly thoughts. But I don't care. I am proud of my Mahar people who fought against this discrimination.
Damn! Soo relatable, I am in a really good medical government college but still get imposter syndrome, I feel that I won’t be credited for my achievements even If I put same amount of effort.
True!
the only thing i'm kinda eh about caste system is that so many undeserving candidates get seats due to reservation. i'm not talking about the sc/st/obc ppl who actually work hard, i'm talking abt those who take advantage of the caste system. i have seen so many people illegally change their caste using connections which is so fucked up. i'm muslim so i fall into general category but whatever i don't really care. in my opinion, college entrance exams shouldn't have reservations, it should only be based on merit. on the other hand, job placements wtvr it is called should have reservations because obviously interviewers can be prejudiced against lower castes.
hopefully whatever i said was coherent lol
I agree with your statement.

I understand casteism still exists and this video was needed , I didn't care about caste until and unless , Indian colleges schools include caste in the education too am a oc but I am from a typical middle class family , I feel like it's unfair , to treat us directly like we are rich or something 😭 am a oc , especially in the fact of education even though my financial condition isn't good , am having to pay huge amounts for the college , I feel this is so unfair I don't deny that casteism is making the low caste suffer , too as there are. people who still discriminate them but I wish government wasn't this casteist, i sometimes regret being from oc I wish government was fair to us atleast in the part of education
While I was appling for colleges even though I did get better grades , many of my classmates who didn't even get the minimum score have gotten into very good colleges , the cut off is so unfair , for us , I never cared about caste , until the fact of education..

This issue of caste is also the root for the colorism that exists in our country. Attending a chitpavan bramhin majority school whilst being dark skinned i always faced subtle racism and casteist remarks. Even in school plays, the only roles i could land were that of a thief, a beggar or on similar grounds .
But aren't there dark skinned brahmins in Southern and Eastern India

U are not so very right bout first part
Brahmans are the one who get blamed for all this even tho we r 5%.

Are the reservations actually helping the lower caste?
From what I can see in the comments, these reservations are fueling even more hate from the upper castes towards the lower castes.
