What do you think about this new limited edition? Are you gonna wait for the standard edition to release?

  • @MultiCastorFiber

Limited edition feels kindy iffy, I prefer open editions where everyone has a chance to buy one rather than a select few. Also limited editions often invites scalpers who want to buy one and flip it rather than true fans.

This post immediately attracts all the haters it seems ^^ I personally like the simple Design. As for the quality i never had a poor quality Folio Book, not sure why it would change with this limited edition. Anyway it was obviously worth the price to 500 buyers. On the other hand I agree they should have release a standard edition alongside this one.

Just received mine, it's an awesome looking book. I think a lot of people were just upset they missed out on it. Very little marketing for this one

I just can’t see how this book would be better in quality compared to a standard edition from the folio society (that would cost $80 instead).
The paper is better than standard Abbey Wove but the difference isn’t that huge. Having owned both the Dune LE and K. Dick LE I get a feel that this edition is similar to those two (and I ended up selling them because of the non-LE feel the books had)

@PontusPresents I think this goes beyond just book collectors, this is desirable to sci-fi collectors such as myself. The signature is an important part of that. The design of the book is different, and I get why it's divided people's opinions, but i personally think it looks great now that I'm holding it.

Wasn't entirely sold on this edition when the details were first announced. I liked the interior artwork, but was less enthused by the binding / enclosure. Now that I have the LE in hand, I have to say it's much better than expected. The book has quite some heft to it due to the laminated, almost rubberised, material they've used for the binding ( and case ). Interior artwork is excellent ; the other flourishes eg. "digital" endpapers and sprayed edges add cohesion to the overall design. Is it worth £400 ? Probably not, in my opinion, but it's definitely a cut above their standard edition releases. The limitation and signatures will be of added value to hardcore Neuromancer fans.

I was up early enough to potentially grab it but once I saw it was all paper _and_ was $600 I passed. They didn’t even use the highest quality versions of paper for the book. The value wasn’t even close to being there. Other providers have much better versions at a fraction of the price. The art was nice, sure, but definitely not worth anywhere close to $600.

    • @PontusPresents

@@PontusPresents exactly. Although I’m not sure I’ll wait for that. We’ll see. I can’t really imagine what they’d downgrade from the LE to an SE, other than a slipcase. (imo an upgrade). It won’t have Gibson’s signature, but that’s easy to get, so really it’s only the artist’s signature.

  • @hedgiecc
    @hedgiecc Місяць тому +2

I do enjoy the styling of the book, but I agree with the you the illustrations are magnificent. 600 is outrageous, but I suppose the author's signature on a classic might be worth it for fans!

I personally disagree with the design of the case, I like when they make the cases unique and stand out from the standard folio editions. However, I agree that folio cover designs have gone far too simple recently. They have had many where its not even art, its just a pattern or geometric design etc.

  • @sofadhana1289

I agree with your comments re the design. On top of that, I generally don't like saturated colours, so this edition is a hard no from an aesthetic pov.

  • @Ulrich-j7s

I wanted to buy, and then decided not to do. The price was too high.
Are they gluing the signature plate on the book page? Does it hold?
And I do not really regret not buying it. I do not have many limited editions, only a few. The Last Unicorn from Suntup has a better quality for a lower price.

  • @Fierylunar

Quickest sell out so far was Mort I believe, roughly 12 hours. Van Gogh sketchbooks were sold out before launch due to preorder, so that hardly counts.
As for the book: I like the illustrations a lot, but the book itself is an acquired taste... Don't think you or I missed out on much.
Also agree that most likely, there will be a Standard Edition soon for around 80 GB, seeing the success of this one. Holding out for that, and hoping for a better cover.

I think you went down the right path with wanting to read the book in a standard version first. Pity it was sold out so fast and you did not get the chance to build a proper opinion about this pecial edition in time.
I would also want to read and "test" this SF classics before buying such an expensive copy. Some of them did not age that well or do not live up to my nowadays taste.
I am happy you were not too keen about this copy anyways and you will still be able to sleep nicely even though you could not get your hands on this Folio edition.

Folio are now synonymous with greed and bad design. Furthermore Gibson must be one of the most prolific signers alive. Harder to find a hardcover of his that isn't signed. I've got several and I only have those because they were the cheapest or as cheap as an unsigned one.

  • @stevenjones7170

I read the book about 12 years ago. I had great difficulty understanding who was doing what to whom. It was not clear whether what was happening was happening in the real world, through someone else's eyes, or online. There was someone who spoke like Lady Penelope and some Rastafarians in space, but everyone else sounded the same, so it was difficult to keep up the plot. In fact I cannot remember what the plot was. Lady Penelope was in on it, or at least she knew the person who was behind it. I cannot remember the plot, but the situation was a combination of Tron, Bladerunner and The Matrix.
