Thank-you for all your efforts. I can’t help but think of my Mum and Dad and the life we had in Norwich before immigrating to Canada in the late 60’s.

Chamberlins sounds like a wonderful store - fancy being escorted to the different departments - and so much older than Selfridges! What a twist of fate that all those devastating fires occurred on the same date, August 1st! Adding these fascinating facts makes the video stand out even more. Thank you, it was really interesting.

John I love your video's I love Norwich, originally from lowestoft, my parents often brought me up to Norwich as child, in the 50's and 60's, It maybe this that allows me to watch your videos of some of the old much changed Norwich and I instinctively know what the now picture is going to be. I joined the RAF from Norwich in 1970, returning and living with my future wife in 1972, we left the area in 1977 returning from Germany in 1993, not wanting to live anywhere else. I remember thinking how Norwich had changed, when we left we had a cattle market when we returned we had castle mall !, At times watching your videos I think somewhere has not changed, until I see the area from the 60's/70's and think i remember that. Thanks for the Videos

Wilkinson's was a top-quality leather goods shop, and as far as I recall, it was still going into the 1980s, if not later. I have a leather belt I bought there in about 1969, for about £1/10/0, and I use it still.

I was a student in Norwich in the late 1970s and struggle to remember the businesses that were there at that time. I do recall ‘Head In The Clouds’ which was not too far away and the wonderful Thorns DIY ironmongers on Dove Street. I still possess a saw I bought in there!

Another very valuable video full of historical facts and images. I 💖 that hall. What an amazing life it has had. So many changes of identity from within. It never ceases to amaze me at what a brilliant architects there were- and building technics used to create such beauty. Was the cause of all those fires ever discovered? Arson? Seems very suspect all at the same time. Thanks John. Loved this a lot. 👍🇳🇱🙋‍🇳🇿

BB Adams was a cut-price shop that sold some very dodgy stuff, I remember buying a tin of lobster 'bisque' for 5 p and being extremely ill after it. The fact that the tin was rusty should have been a warning sign that went un-heeded.

The BB Adams store you show isn't the one in the Leeds building Society building. There were two BB Adam's stores, the Leeds one sold electronics and the other one - in what is now Philp Browne - sold food, including on one occasion unlabled tins containing either peas or beans.
Originally St Giles ran into London Street and Exchange Street wasn't there. Not sure when Exchange Street was created though.
Oh and the teenager walking up the hill past BB Adams looks very much like me - could it be?

In 1984 both shops relocated to King Street. I will see if I can locate a photo of the shop that used to be Spalls...

I found a photograph wallet supplied by 'George Gregory (Photography) Ltd., 22 Goat Lane, Norwich.' This address puzzled me as it is listed in the 1960 Kelly's Norwich Directory correctly as Lower Goat Lane. Any thoughts as to why this odd address - ?
