I think what a lot of people don't know is playing the drums and singing at the same time is very very very hard to do. Not to many musicians were able to do that. Phil Collins, Don Henley, believe it or not which you would never guess,GINGER BAKER WAS ABLE. THERE ARE A FEW MORE BUT I AM REPLYING RIGHT NOW.. BUT YOU GET IT. BUT KAREN WAS TOUCHED BY THE HAND OF GOD. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT SOME PEOPLE WERE. NOT JUST IN MUSIC, IN THE ART WORLD, SCIENCE, PHYSICS. AGAIN, YOU GET IT

Art was just trying to convey the 'EXACT TRUTH' regarding the concept of "Lip Syncing/Performance Playback"; believe me, he was NOT trying to 'embarrass' Rich or Karen. One needs to understand, these kind of programs, including American Bandstand & Soul Train in the 1970s & Solid Gold in the 1980s, was NOT about a "Live Concert Performance" but was ALL ABOUT record promotion, publicity & the familiarity of the recorded project. As a retired radio broadcaster and concept/concert director & producer myself, I know EXACTLY what clear & concise message Art was attempting to convey to his audience.

Everyone always makes a big deal out of that, but it's far easier to play drums than it is to play piano or guitar, yet no one remarks how amazing it is that people play piano and guitar and sing at the same time.

TheLarryBrown, I can sing or talk while playing the guitar just fine. But if I'm playing the piano, my hands get lost the minute I open my mouth. And I was playing the piano for several years before learning the guitar. I've also never managed to sing while playing the harmonica!

The emotion & expression of her singing was enough to make them both stars. If we could’ve asked Mr Sullivan on that day about their future, he would’ve said they are already stars in his opinion.

For those who don't know, the two hosts are Ed Sullivan and Arthur Godfrey. Ed, of course, was a Sunday night viewing staple for many years. Arthur Godfrey was one of the very first television superstars in the late 1940's and early '50's.

what a natural, smooth reassuring nature Karen has, her genuineness is a loving reminder how during stress, slow up your speech and weave in humor … ❤ God she’s a super star… I saw the Carpenters in Ft Wayne Indiana in the ‘70s. Richard is also a super star, his arrangements created their timing, coupling the complex arrangements with her style in voice harmonies was GENIUS! ❤
